It’s totally amazing that one can do this at 40,000 feet! Years ago, I flew on a Lufthansa A321 from Stockholm, Sweden to Munich, Germany in business class. We got a full meal on that 2-hour flight. Very nice! I was with my father. We then connected to a Lufthansa A340 to Boston also business class. That was REALLY NICE!! I have also flown first-class a couple of times on an older Boeing 767. It obviously wasn’t like this but it was still very very nice! I enjoyed that very much!!
It’s been 30 years since I flew San Francisco to Hong Kong first class on Cathay Pacific, in a 747-200, I believe. It wasn’t yet possible to fly nonstop so we too stopped in Vancouver. The seats then were conventional, no personal IFE’s, no beds, but it remains the most impeccable service I have ever seen on a plane. Maybe I will do it again, someday.
I flew a RT business class from LAX to HKG and back to LAX on CX 747-400. Best flight I ever experienced. Fresh cooked rice over the pacific. Congee with dim sum for breakfast. 17 hours of non stop attention from flight attendants. Best I’ve ever experienced. I also been on JAL and AA. Can’t touch CX.
I took a look at the fares out of interest, it was US$20k one way direct JFK-HKG on the random dates I chose or US$11k via YVR. The direct option is about $1,000 per hour so I’d be ordering a second caviar course too!
sayhellotopigeon No. I had pneumonia and severe sepsis. I have numerous preexisting conditions which come back and haunt me sometimes. Thank you for asking. I appreciate that. I have been in the hospital so many times that I can’t even count them. My doctor has told me that I’m not supposed to be alive today. God has plans! Hopefully, one of those plans will be to fly Cathay Pacific from JFK to Hong Kong in first class! 😂😂🤣🤣
Fantastic trip report as always.....1st class!!! I can only dream of flying 1st class with Cathay which is one of my favourite airlines!! Keep up the good work and keep flying!
Very thorough amd impressive review, especially the culinary aspects as to the wide choice of cuisine. Looks very tasty and impressed with the service.
i know it has been a while since i last visited nyc, but when did cathay pacific switch to using american airlines' first class lounge? previously, cathay used british airways' first class lounge.
Everyone in the comments is shitting all over cathay, I wonder how many of them have actually flown first class or just feel like an expert after watching a few Sam Chui vids?
Why would you walk all the way to the other part of the terminal then walk back when your gate was in the main building as seen in 3:28 with the gate shown in 3:30? Last second gate change?

Finally reached a point in my life where im comfortable with purchasing a business class ticket. Gonna be flying my first biz class trip in augsust. Usually i arrive 2hrs early for long haul flights, how much time would you give yourself usually with all the lounges etc. Great video btw! gonna be a fast growing channel. 加油!
Thank you so much for your kind message ! Congratulations on your accomplishments and for purchasing a business class ticket. I am sure its going to be a fascinating experience for you. The time I spend at the airport greatly varies on the airline I am flying and the quality of the lounge. I would be more than happy to spend over 4 hours in Cathay's First Class Lounge but certainly much less if I am visiting a lounge in mainland China.
Wonder with Cathay Pacific's financial woes, will Krug and Caviar continue to greet the FC passengers in 2021? Also, I thought Cathay Pacific fly direct to JFK. Did you break up the direct flight in order to max out on the luxury fun? If so, that's pretty smart!
Cathay does fly direct to JFK. I booked the flight that has a layover in Vancouver in part to having extended flying time as well as an additional meal service :)
well from heart to heart thank you so much or this Incredible report. Starting with the American Airlines flagship Dining Options. something Delta or United can not even touch. They dont have first class cabins. The CX inflight Service featured here is stunning, pristine you name it. A world of dreams coming true I am so thankfull that there is such a high inflight servicelLevel STILL available. once again at least three times up with the thumb
thinking about taking this airline from the states to Mongolia. Might have to save extra for the very long flight. Would go insane in economy for that long.
Although I am based at Shanghai, personally I would avoid flying China Eastern especially on international flights. China Eastern's business class hard product is solid, they operate 77W with a reverse herringbone between JFK-PVG; however, the service and catering is very disappointing. They apparently have the advantage of operating the only direct flight, but I would rather make a stopover somewhere else in order to have an enjoyable flight.
I booked 1A on CX841 and am wondering if I am able to access the Flagship First Dining in T8, please clarify if you can. Absolutely loved your video, it's very detailed and well made.
Thank you for watching ! All Cathay Pacific passengers are entitled to access Flagship First Dining as long as it is open. I would suggest checking the opening hour on AA's website and adjust your plan accordingly.
I am a Cathay Pacific Premium economy passenger. It´s fine. I flew business a couple of times and wasn´t too impressed. I expected real suites in First Class.
The downside of this flight 9 p.m. departure from JFK airport is it that you're faced with 45 minute connection time in Hong Kong if you're going to Manila on the first flight CX907. You're better off doing the 1:30 a.m. departure CX845 JFK and EWR CX899
To be honest, I would rather spend$ for a nice hotel & dine at fine dinning restaurant. First class cost is crazily high & most people I know only use points for upgrade. CX needs to focus on their service at other class too not just first or business.
They are currently in the process of installing wifi on all of their long haul fleets, including all 777-300ERs; however, there are approximately half of the 777 that are equipped with wifi as of now.
I threw 777 from Los Angeles to Hong Kong that took 16 hrs. They turned off all the lights about an hour in flight. We tried to get some lights by raising the shades but they immediately took it down. Other than 2 meal time and one hour before arrival, they will not let you have natural lights. This way they don't have to be bothered. Who needs to sleep 12 hrs? Same thing on the way back to Los Angeles but luckily it took only 12+ hrs.
Thank you for watching ! It is indeed sad to see so many airlines no longer offering first class, nonetheless, A350 is still a wonderful aircraft to fly and I do appreciate the wifi onboard the 350s.
Espen B Accoridng to SeatGuru, Cathay’s first class on the 777 is 36 inch wide while SQ’s first is 35 inch. SQ has very wide seats in first and business class but their legroom is very limited on some of the business class.

I am not sure about LAX, but I believe Cathay has a contract with AA' flagship dining at JFK because there isn't a first class lounge like the Qantas one in LAX.

Other than getting an additional meal, is there any reason why you took the direct flight, rather than the non-stop? I know there are several non-stop flights every day from JFK to HKG, and one from EWR, (no First) I took one time. Is there some restriction or difficulty using mileage on the nonstop? I loved your narration, but that annoying computer-generated noise that you used as "background music" often covers your voice, and I could not understand some words, even after backing up several times.
Thank you for your suggestion, I will certainly lower down the music in my future videos and examine the quality of recording. I chose this flight partially because it was available for mileage redemption, but also because it has an ideal departure and arrival time. It is very tough to redeem business and first class awards between New York and Hong Kong during the peak season and usually this flight CX889/CX888 is most likely to have award availability because most business travelers would rather purchase a non stop flight.

Thanks for the review. I'm considering Cathay Pacific First Class for my birthday trip next year.

Now that seat is really something. Looks real cosy especially for a 21 hour flight, plenty of privacy for that long on a plane

Great video! That Boeing 777 is beautiful!
That 777 is a beautiful plane! I’ll have one of those American Airlines Signature Sundaes please and a glass of that Krug champagne!
Nicely done!
I had a flight from HKG to JFK with the stop over in YVR flying economy. That was a first and a last.
Nice flight report.
