13 Hours NO POWER | Nectre 350 Wood Cookstove Review

- Our wood cookstove, the Nectre 350, is arguably the most essential prep we have on our homestead. Our cabin sits 1.5 hours from Lake Erie and we sure felt the “Arctic Blast!” We were without power for 13 hours and to be honest, not much changed for us. We had oatmeal for breakfast and pizza for lunch and all the while we stayed warm in the cabin. We moved to our cabin to be more prepared for events like this!
Also I wanted to clarify that we took the back off to view the firebox and make sure it was truly perfect. Safety first!

Hi my name is Allison and I moved to the woods with my husband and four children. I am a registered nurse that did not comply which ultimately ended my employment. With such a significant change in our lives, we are taking this as a sign to follow our dreams and live a more simple and self reliant life in the woods. Subscribe to the channel to follow along and see what we get up too, how we prep, and how we live simply in a 800 square foot cabin.

We love our Heartland Oval Wood Cook Stove !!! Its the heart of our home in the colder months !!!
That’s truly the style I was looking for..the more traditional type. But I was nervous it wouldn’t heat our whole cabin. We are very satisfied with the Nectre but I am looking for another “used” stove to put in our outdoor kitchen!
@@axesandaprons The Heartland Oval Cook Stove is rated to heat 1,500 square feet!
@@hdrvman that’s awesome 👏🏼
Awesome! Been looking at these foe a while
We are still living ours! I do sometimes wish we had the bigger oven 😅
Just found your channel. And now I’m a fan and a subscriber!
2 winters ago we had a 3 day power cut, this coincided with looking after the grandchildren. Our small cook stove kept us warm, prepared hot food and allowed us to boil enough water for quick rag washes.
I love stories like this ☺️
Beautiful woodstove. ❤we cook on our stove too but it doesn't have an oven. I use to have a bakers choice cook stove when we lived on a farm..I miss that thing but our small stove does what we need too;)
If we ever build a larger cabin I’d like to get a bakers choice and a regular wood stove. I really liked the bakers choice just wasn’t sure it was going to be good enough for heat
@@axesandaprons it puts off a lot of heat and you can turn it down when you go to bed so there are hot coals to start I back up in the morning. Our old farmhouse had no insulation and was over 100 years old. We could see our breathe if we went upstairs bc it was a 3 level old house with a wrap around porch (we only were renters and didn't own it or else we would still be there;) but the bakers choice was wonderful;)
Hi there, thanks for the review of this woodstove. I wanted to ask you about cooking on it, as its a very efficient heater, does it get too hot to cook on the stove top? how do you get around the cooking without burning yourself?
Many thanks xx
@blissfulidiot9856 it’s great for cooking. You can’t stand in front of it but you can stand just fine to the side. I never burn myself. Sometimes when it’s really cold out and we can’t afford to not have a hot hot fire I wear an apron as an extra barrier for my legs especially if I’m working all around it and need to pass the front several times 😊
I like the idea that one can bake with it, besides cooking too. Not seen this style tho.
It’s definitely convenient for a small space
Maybe you could extend your burn times with a pipe damper, draft could be too strong?
We have definitely considered this 👍🏻
A stove pipe thermometer will also help you dial in the stove as well
Can I use this wood stove to power my cell phone, internets, microwave oven, and 75" plasma TV?
No, bummer 😐
4 hrs. is not a lot of burn time?? You need the Blaze King they have a long burn time from 30-40 Hrs.!!! just saying 🙂
It’s not a cook stove though. In such a small place we have to choose on or the other so we need a cook stove. The larger nectre would give a much longer burn time but again, very small space we would cook ourselves out of the cabin 😓
$4500 I don't think so.
I know that’s why I looked for a used one 😊
They are 2500 USD in Australia. The small one is 2000 USD in Australia. Sea freight to USA would be 500 USD max.
@@adelarsen9776 You're forgetting about added middlemen all taking their cut. There could also be import duties and other tarrifs on either end of the sale.
@@tomskimcdouglegaming806 I realise that however you should be able to get one shipped for far less than the price mentioned here.
I wish you good health and prosperity.
There could be a cyber attack and everything will get shut down.. electricity, etc
So I am looking into this and solar etc
Yes exactly. We looked into solar and the cost was actually not worth it. I’d rather learn to simplify life than to depend on solar or have a big payment for it.
