This is great. I wish they make a version of it wrapped in soap stone like HearthStone stoves. Soap stone doesn't get too hot, gives very comfortable heat for a long time.

I like the high temp burn to get more complete combustion. I still think masonry stoves are the best heat if you can fit one in. One issue with most metal wood stoves is that the surface temperatures are so high that they burn dust in the air and convect it around the room, which is not great for health, also the fierce heat is very drying to eyes and skin.
I own a pyrolysis boiler, which works almost the same way - the flame in it also hits through a refractory brick-nozzle and is directed downwards, where the pyrolysis gases of the wood burn, more cleanly, more efficiently and hotter. But this stove surprises me even more, because I don't see any fans or anything like that here, like in my boiler.
Yes, no fans, no electric supply required all works on natural chimney draught. What was hard to convey was just how hot this stove gets, compared to other stoves with a similar size firebox.
At those combustion temperatures, you need more specialized materials than steel. The hotter steel gets, the faster it oxidizes, especially in any kind of humid environments. Is the steel insulated at all?
I asked xeoos directly this question, i have not heard back from them yet, but the centre double ground piece that is at the heart of this fire, under the cast-iron domed grate, is insulated with a chamotte firebrick material

I so want one of these, omg. I'm an oak framer so have no end of oak which is a pig to get burning. It gets super hot but not much flame. This will blitz oak all day long i reckon
Yes, you might need to use something softer to establish the fire, but then once its up to temperature, and the twinfire is activated you should have no trouble.
3 hr burn time is not enough for continual overnight use. My Woodchief is thermostatically controlled and I can squeeze 8 hrs of burn time out of a full combustion chamber of birch wood.
Most stoves sold in the UK are not designed for continuous use, therefore for us overnight burning is more about coming down to a warm stove with hot embers still in it to easily light and start again the next day. However i believe in some countries the term overnight burn is more literal in keeping a live fire burning all night and still having flames the next morning. As you say that is not going to be possible with this model, but keeping it warm to re-ignite the next day morning would be, especially if you choose a model with stone cladding for better heat retention.

Allows for optimal combustion lowering the amount of wood needed, you don't need a constant fire going (you make one a day, two when it's really cold and they burn hot and short), and keeps the place warm for 24 hours without being a slave to the stove.
Looks interesting... You showed only when fire was full burning. What when is too hot in the house and you want small fire? What happens then? How dirty is glass then? For me, it also looks like a nightmare to clean ashes every day. I am also using wood stove, but I need to clean ashes only once per month.
When you adjust the air control the flames do respond, we have a short coming out showing this later. As for Ash, so much of the wood is burnt that you get very little in the way of Ash, so depending on use, like you it could be emptied once per month also, you just pull the tray out with thr twinfire gate in place, then remove the gate and tip out your Ash.
Another little tiny stove that requires you to chop its fuel into little tiny pieces and won't hold a fire for any useful length of time unless you constantly stuff more wood into it. It might be an attractive visual focal point for a chique cocktail party, but as a practical heat source it's rubbish.
The Italians has one with really high effect. Literally looking like the one in this video. But you can have it embedded into the wall too if you like. It has water loop to heat the water on the exhaust gases
Besides for spending high dollar on like a wood boiler anyone know anything that gasifies wood for that extra efficiency that isn't a citchy toy? Heck even a double barrel stove is way better.
The downside would be the run time. Unless your catching the heat it's very possible a lot of it is getting swept away outside. Clean burn is great as long as you can extract it. The ability to bring air in from outside is very thoughtful though.

it looks good but! when you need to put more wood during burning after you open door smoke goes out from stove. i see this problem on many stoves. i dont want to smell smoke when i use stove. also when smoke goes out you need to clean your room air which opening windows ,than losing heat. Anyway except this problem it looks new for me and looks good.
I think this is more designed for elegance and pizazz less practicality. Maybe someone will design one that is closer to the footprint of a traditional stove size and shape wise that doesn't do this.
Unfortunately not, the X8 with its 33cm max long length is the largest firebox size Xeoos make. Atleast for now, if they are reading all these comments, that may well change.

If they add A LOT more thermal mass, to capture the heat, and decrease or even better eliminate the glass, as based on the combustion chamber volume, it is absolutely huge, then that can pass the efficiency test. Not how even on the front picture the wood is black, due to the low heat, and that immediately shows inefficient burning.
There are models with stone claddings to increase the total thermal mass of the stove, but they are not storage heaters like some stoves can be. As for the black, this is where the wood is touching the internal glass log retaining bar and there is no air flow between the glass and the wood, as such a sooty deposits forms (same thing happens when wood is touching an internal firebrick on the back or sides. You can see as the video goes on that this cleans itself to the point where there is no black left at the end. As for eliminating the glass, this is designed to be installed in a living space, so the glass is an important factor in this type of installation. There are plenty of other wood gasification stoves, that don't have glass and are designed solely for providing heat, rather than also providing warmth when you watch the flames. Plus for us the down burning flame is fascinating and captivating to watch, so seeing this is part of the stoves charm - in our opinion atleast.

I would love to see these innovative desings combined with some proper thermal mass. For me, anything under 2000 kilos is not considered an adequate heater. Preferably twice that.
So, there are some models with heat storing stone claddings on the sides and top: redefiningwoodburners.com/category/stoves/twinfire-stoves but its not full thermal mass by any stretch. Thermal mass stoves in the UK are just not as popular as freestanding stoves like this unfortunately.
@@woodburnerinsights Thanks. I have to check those when I'm remodeling the attic space. I had one stove there before dismantling. It weighted like 70 to 100 kilos with some ceramic tiles and bricks. It managed to keep the bedroom warm half the night.
We don't have Blaze King in the UK, i will have to take a look at those. But maintenance isn't that different to a more conventional woodburner. Yes there are a few more firebricks to replace in time, and sweeping is not the same as in a conventional woodburner but it doesn't require any specialist tools or equipment.
My favourite too. Love that we can get 20+ hour burn times with one load. I have a smaller unit but just need a load in the morning and then evening and never have to relit it 👌
I had a Blaze King Princess with a catalytic converter in my old house. Loved it! I, too, was able to get 20+ hour burn times. When it was up to temperature you wouldn't even see smoke coming out of the chimney, just heat rising.

Yes, pellet stoves are a great way to heat a home and nice and easy too. As long as you have a stable power supply, and are not prone to power outages.
That looks like it belongs in the playhouse. Do they make these an actual full size stove? Very cool concept but does not look robust. My kids would break it the first time they would load the pieces of twigs in.
So, for heating in "typical" living room here in the UK, i think this does an excellent job with its 8kW nominal output. But for larger spaces or where it is the primary heat source then you'll want something bigger for sure.
3 hours doesnt get me thru the night. How come no blower thru heat tubes or exchanger? My Pacific Energy is a gasafier and when loaded with ash it lasts all night... Not interested in cutting my wood into such small pieces, not intetested in more work..

It is still a wood stove and I will never be a slave to one of those ever again. Figure out a way to get the wood from the driveway to the shed to the house without any work and dirt and figure out how to deal with the ashes without polluting the air you breath while cleaning and figure out a way of cleaning the chimney effortlessly
alot to unpack there, but in essence, a woodburner is as much of a lifestyle choice as it is a source of warmth, however that lifestyle as you say transporting, cutting, cleaning and maintaining is not for everyone. Alternative "woodburner" fuels have come along way now though, so you can imitate the look without the effort. They are all imitations however, and nothing beats a real wood flame in our opinion.
Do you mean the log basket we had off to the side of the stove? This model has no means of storing logs underneath it. There are models that can because the temperature at the bottom is so low. I can place my hand flat on the underside of the firebox and its barely warm. All the heat comes forwards, very little goes down, due to the elevated top fire chamber.
The perfect fire for someone living off grid on a modest income ...... They system costs over £4000 just for the stove, and it relies on mains electricity to run. Are these the guys that made those wind turbines that require a diesel generator to stay unfrozen in winter?
We didn't make this point to clear enough in the video, but this stove does NOT require electricity to run. There are no fans inside, it runs entirely off natural chimney draught. The upfront cost is higher than some equivalent conventional woodburners, but the efficiency and fuel saving will pay for that within a few years of use.
In the UK are Europe, the requirement for CO is to be lower than 1250mg/m³ and this is 97.8mg/m³ | NOx has to be lower than 200mg/m² and this is 118.5mg/m³ and ultra fine particulate matter under 40mg/m³ and the Xeoos TwinFire is 5.9mg/m³. This particulate matter includes all PM levels ranging from PM1 - PM10 So, PM2.5 will be included within this amount, but will be less than 5.9mg/m³
Agreed, they are a great way to store heat up. Not as popular in the UK, probably due to our homes being built around a brick fireplace and there not being the space for the thermal mass. That said ive seen some innovative solutions to this which we will hopefully feature in a future video.
I believe in the past xeoos made a version that had two separate doors for each chamber, but they moved away from this design in favour of the single door almost 20 years ago now. I guess other than emptying the ash when it is off, there is no need to access the lower compartment really...

So rotate the whole thing to the room you want to enjoy for rooms that share the fireplace as the centre point. But Just imagine if you could rotate top and bottom differently lol one room would be just looking at a downward flame Without the extra messing just simple double sided might be less design work then with extra swivels and bearing etc But how would the back boiler version which they also have on their website work with double sided. ??? Now that’s what I want in my place in a few years :)
Yes, the Basic/Nature model can have a rotating function with it and that can be placed either on the floor so the stove and logstore rotate as one, or between the logstore and the firebox so the firebox rotates independently to the base. There is a boiler model available now in the AQUA, but a double sided boiler stove. Im not sure anyone still makes a stove like this currently (atleast not in the UK). Very interesting idea!
or how to waste wood. my own desing, 1 small log one night. (or 3 pieces of 2x10x12") i mean from 9pm to 7am. at 16pm there are still a few embers left in the stove and it is still hot.
Burning longer doesn’t mean it’s wasting less wood. This is State of the Art efficiency, by definition it’s wasting the minimum possible amount of wood. But if you have the requirements for long burn times (overnight) then this might not be suitable. It looks like it has a minimum output of around 4kw, which would mean burning about 1kg of wood an hour (with something like oak or ash), doesn’t look like you could get much more than about 5kg in the firebox. So I ‘guess’ about a max 5hr burn.

There is so much more you can do to that Stove, to even warm the entrie House! They need to do more work on the Stove, like having Air Blowing Tubes inside of the Stove!!!!!! To generate more Heat inside of the House with warm air from the Tubes!!!!
Good Video BUT; - bad choice in flooring color to showcase the product/same colors no good. Great idea, but i'd say a 2nd handle to adjust the 2nd chamber is a must in the future (cheaper with 1) but 2 handles a must. You failed to mention how the heat is distributed From the Product, any add ons for Pot boiling, wrapping copper around to heat floors or shower water and etc. The larger wood box at bottom is great but overall it just looks like an expensive "Fire Display" box built for aesthetics and not true room heating.. mabye add some fans and etc. also.
Appreciate the feedback, i think it depends on the size of your room and levels of insulation as to if an 8kW output is enough to heat that space effectively. For the UK 90% of woodburners are rated at 5kW due to the smaller room sizes. Good suggestions for options and additional capabilities, will keep in mind for the future videos - thanks
There are not many indoor rocket stoves that i know of that meet atleast the current UK & European regs for wood burning. Ive seen plenty of outdoor rocket stoves and compared to open fires im certain they are much cleaner burning, so would be interested to know more about approved indoor rocket stoves to compare them.
Having low distances to combustible materials is common for UK woodburners and often a selling point. The Xeoos needs just 100mm behind and 200mm on either side to a combustible material. The wall here is actually made from a non-combustible fire boarding material, allowing us to go closer than this is required. Due to the way the stove is constructed, these sides panels stand off the side of the stove, and there are channels between the inner firebox walls and the outer firebox surface, which reduces the temperatures coming out of the side. It is hotter 1.5m in front of the stove, than it is just 15cm to the side.
Very old tech. Nothing new here. Just look at Froling boilers... they burn the exact same way and they are available since many many years. In fact, almost all boilers made in Europe are burning that way.
Yes, gasification boiler stoves are not new, and to be honest this stove concept is not new technology, but this version has been refined for domestic use in your home, to heat a living space without the need of fans or an electricity supply. When you compare this way of burning wood, to the 99% of current wood burning stoves that are sold in the UK, then this is an alternative way to burn that most people will not be aware of.
Looks like its too shallow a stove or poorly designed because it was leaking a lot of embers/ smoke into the room when he cracked that door. If we can see it on camera must have been much worse in person.
This is not the future, but an expensive gimmick that works only sometimes as advertised, so you rather rarely see the double flame. Go and buy yourself a better oven.

Depends what your wanting a woodburner for i guess, 24hour burns is not something that we tend to want as much in the UK and parts of Europe as perhaps in other countries. Achieving a 3+ hour refuel cycle between loading is 3-4 times longer than what most woodburners in the UK offer currently, so i guess its all relative to what you need.
Rocket mass heater…burn 2x every 24 hrs and heat your whole house with less than 1/2 the wood. This stove is the beginning of an old idea…that ends up being a Rocket mass heater.
I have only ever seen outdoor rocket stoves, never seen one approved for indoor use domestically, if you know of a particular brand id be interested to know who they are so we can look into them more closely in the future.
Indeed xeoos have been making version if this tech for over 20 years now. It's never really taken off mainstream in the UK though, and with talk around emissions from wood stoves at an all time high, I thought it would be good to highlight its benefits

I love it! Its beautiful plus efficient. I don't see those fins in the bottom lasting more than a few years but I love it.

Yeah id be intrigued if the top burn chamber was sized to fit at least 4 or 5 normal sized split logs. This thing is a glorified twig stove.

Once your in twinfire mode, it will pretty much burn any types of wood, just avoid anything has been treated/painted.

I would love to see these innovative desings combined with some proper thermal mass. For me, anything under 2000 kilos is not considered an adequate heater. Preferably twice that.
So, there are some models with heat storing stone claddings on the sides and top: redefiningwoodburners.com/category/stoves/twinfire-stoves but its not full thermal mass by any stretch. Thermal mass stoves in the UK are just not as popular as freestanding stoves like this unfortunately.
@@woodburnerinsights Thanks. I have to check those when I'm remodeling the attic space. I had one stove there before dismantling. It weighted like 70 to 100 kilos with some ceramic tiles and bricks. It managed to keep the bedroom warm half the night.

We don't have Blaze King in the UK, i will have to take a look at those. But maintenance isn't that different to a more conventional woodburner. Yes there are a few more firebricks to replace in time, and sweeping is not the same as in a conventional woodburner but it doesn't require any specialist tools or equipment.

My favourite too. Love that we can get 20+ hour burn times with one load. I have a smaller unit but just need a load in the morning and then evening and never have to relit it 👌
I had a Blaze King Princess with a catalytic converter in my old house. Loved it! I, too, was able to get 20+ hour burn times. When it was up to temperature you wouldn't even see smoke coming out of the chimney, just heat rising.
@@WildernessGuyBC I've always been curious about those catalytic stoves. My only concern is that the catalyst would clog up/ fowl/ or get damaged over time? Is that an issue cause platinum ain't cheap! I love the concept though!

Pretty short burn time one would have to get up in the night to reload, not good. Blaze King seems a better option

I have a Mörso Squirrel. Two 1/4 split logs last 2 hours. 20 briquettes of Ecoal last 12 hours. Very warm. Remind me again why I should downgrade?

Yes, pellet stoves are a great way to heat a home and nice and easy too. As long as you have a stable power supply, and are not prone to power outages.
Get me a fire box big enough for a 24 h burn, a catalyst option, and rear facing flue so i can cook and bake on the top and then we can talk.....:-)
That looks like it belongs in the playhouse. Do they make these an actual full size stove? Very cool concept but does not look robust. My kids would break it the first time they would load the pieces of twigs in.
So, for heating in "typical" living room here in the UK, i think this does an excellent job with its 8kW nominal output. But for larger spaces or where it is the primary heat source then you'll want something bigger for sure.

It is still a wood stove and I will never be a slave to one of those ever again. Figure out a way to get the wood from the driveway to the shed to the house without any work and dirt and figure out how to deal with the ashes without polluting the air you breath while cleaning and figure out a way of cleaning the chimney effortlessly
alot to unpack there, but in essence, a woodburner is as much of a lifestyle choice as it is a source of warmth, however that lifestyle as you say transporting, cutting, cleaning and maintaining is not for everyone. Alternative "woodburner" fuels have come along way now though, so you can imitate the look without the effort. They are all imitations however, and nothing beats a real wood flame in our opinion.

Do you mean the log basket we had off to the side of the stove? This model has no means of storing logs underneath it. There are models that can because the temperature at the bottom is so low. I can place my hand flat on the underside of the firebox and its barely warm. All the heat comes forwards, very little goes down, due to the elevated top fire chamber.

They system costs over £4000 just for the stove, and it relies on mains electricity to run.
Are these the guys that made those wind turbines that require a diesel generator to stay unfrozen in winter?
We didn't make this point to clear enough in the video, but this stove does NOT require electricity to run. There are no fans inside, it runs entirely off natural chimney draught.
The upfront cost is higher than some equivalent conventional woodburners, but the efficiency and fuel saving will pay for that within a few years of use.
Buy a microphone and do it again.

In the UK are Europe, the requirement for CO is to be lower than 1250mg/m³ and this is 97.8mg/m³ | NOx has to be lower than 200mg/m² and this is 118.5mg/m³ and ultra fine particulate matter under 40mg/m³ and the Xeoos TwinFire is 5.9mg/m³. This particulate matter includes all PM levels ranging from PM1 - PM10 So, PM2.5 will be included within this amount, but will be less than 5.9mg/m³
Masonry stoves are still the best stoves for heating a home. Thermal mass and physics do not lie.
Agreed, they are a great way to store heat up. Not as popular in the UK, probably due to our homes being built around a brick fireplace and there not being the space for the thermal mass. That said ive seen some innovative solutions to this which we will hopefully feature in a future video.

I believe in the past xeoos made a version that had two separate doors for each chamber, but they moved away from this design in favour of the single door almost 20 years ago now. I guess other than emptying the ash when it is off, there is no need to access the lower compartment really...

So rotate the whole thing to the room you want to enjoy for rooms that share the fireplace as the centre point. But Just imagine if you could rotate top and bottom differently lol one room would be just looking at a downward flame
Without the extra messing just simple double sided might be less design work then with extra swivels and bearing etc

Yes, the Basic/Nature model can have a rotating function with it and that can be placed either on the floor so the stove and logstore rotate as one, or between the logstore and the firebox so the firebox rotates independently to the base.
There is a boiler model available now in the AQUA, but a double sided boiler stove. Im not sure anyone still makes a stove like this currently (atleast not in the UK). Very interesting idea!

my own desing, 1 small log one night. (or 3 pieces of 2x10x12")
i mean from 9pm to 7am. at 16pm there are still a few embers left in the stove and it is still hot.
Burning longer doesn’t mean it’s wasting less wood. This is State of the Art efficiency, by definition it’s wasting the minimum possible amount of wood. But if you have the requirements for long burn times (overnight) then this might not be suitable.
It looks like it has a minimum output of around 4kw, which would mean burning about 1kg of wood an hour (with something like oak or ash), doesn’t look like you could get much more than about 5kg in the firebox. So I ‘guess’ about a max 5hr burn.
Most stoves sold in the UK are not designed for continuous use, therefore for us overnight burning is more about coming down to a warm stove with hot embers still in it to easily light and start again the next day. However i believe in some countries overnight burn means to maintain a live fire all night and still having flames the next morning. That is not going to be possible with this, but keeping it warm to re-ignite the next day morning would be, especially if you choose a model with stone cladding for better heat retention.

There is so much more you can do to that Stove, to even warm the entrie House! They need to do more work on the Stove, like having Air Blowing Tubes inside of the Stove!!!!!! To generate more Heat inside of the House with warm air from the Tubes!!!!

Good Video BUT; - bad choice in flooring color to showcase the product/same colors no good. Great idea, but i'd say a 2nd handle to adjust the 2nd chamber is a must in the future (cheaper with 1) but 2 handles a must. You failed to mention how the heat is distributed From the Product, any add ons for Pot boiling, wrapping copper around to heat floors or shower water and etc. The larger wood box at bottom is great but overall it just looks like an expensive "Fire Display" box built for aesthetics and not true room heating.. mabye add some fans and etc. also.
Appreciate the feedback, i think it depends on the size of your room and levels of insulation as to if an 8kW output is enough to heat that space effectively. For the UK 90% of woodburners are rated at 5kW due to the smaller room sizes. Good suggestions for options and additional capabilities, will keep in mind for the future videos - thanks

There are not many indoor rocket stoves that i know of that meet atleast the current UK & European regs for wood burning. Ive seen plenty of outdoor rocket stoves and compared to open fires im certain they are much cleaner burning, so would be interested to know more about approved indoor rocket stoves to compare them.

Wow that stove is installed frighteningly close to the wall. I guess there are no safey regulations where this demo is being filmed?
Having low distances to combustible materials is common for UK woodburners and often a selling point. The Xeoos needs just 100mm behind and 200mm on either side to a combustible material. The wall here is actually made from a non-combustible fire boarding material, allowing us to go closer than this is required. Due to the way the stove is constructed, these sides panels stand off the side of the stove, and there are channels between the inner firebox walls and the outer firebox surface, which reduces the temperatures coming out of the side. It is hotter 1.5m in front of the stove, than it is just 15cm to the side.
Very old tech. Nothing new here. Just look at Froling boilers... they burn the exact same way and they are available since many many years. In fact, almost all boilers made in Europe are burning that way.
Yes, gasification boiler stoves are not new, and to be honest this stove concept is not new technology, but this version has been refined for domestic use in your home, to heat a living space without the need of fans or an electricity supply. When you compare this way of burning wood, to the 99% of current wood burning stoves that are sold in the UK, then this is an alternative way to burn that most people will not be aware of.

Worthless in my opinion, ridiculously small logs, and burn time is a joke.
Depends what your wanting a woodburner for i guess, 24hour burns is not something that we tend to want as much in the UK and parts of Europe as perhaps in other countries. Achieving a 3+ hour refuel cycle between loading is 3-4 times longer than what most woodburners in the UK offer currently, so i guess its all relative to what you need.

Rocket mass heater…burn 2x every 24 hrs and heat your whole house with less than 1/2 the wood.
This stove is the beginning of an old idea…that ends up being a Rocket mass heater.
I have only ever seen outdoor rocket stoves, never seen one approved for indoor use domestically, if you know of a particular brand id be interested to know who they are so we can look into them more closely in the future.

Indeed xeoos have been making version if this tech for over 20 years now. It's never really taken off mainstream in the UK though, and with talk around emissions from wood stoves at an all time high, I thought it would be good to highlight its benefits
