    I bought the Piscifun Alijos size 300 after watching your last video. I can confirm, it works for muskie! I put it on my Muskie-kayak rod! I've used it in saltwater on the Gulf Coast in AL and in freshwater for muskellunge in NY and Tennesee! Good reel for the price!

      Hi! I know this is a late comment, but what's the heaviest lure that you can use it comfortably with?

    • @phytobedo
      @phytobedo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That depends more on the rod than the reel. The reel can handle any lure

      Im planning on using it for heavy pike fishing and was wondering if it could take those large plastic lures that we tend to use (100g+ 3.5oz+)

    Actual "power handles" are counterweighted to prevent clutch engagement during the cast. The unbalanced version, like you have on your reel, is actually a jigging handle, not designed for casting. Engaging the clutch during the cast does damage to the reel and will eventually lead to failure. If you are using your reel for casting I would recommend the double knob "paddle handle".

    • @jordandayman1356
      @jordandayman1356 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm glad you mentioned this. I was having issues with this reel with the clutch engaging during the cast and towards the end of the cast. Now the reel is grinding and making some noise. It seems the power handle is to blame as I was casting with it for about 8 hours straight.

    I bought one of these reels and I absolutely love it. I caught my personal best 42” snook on this reel. I have a Diawa Lexa 300 & 400 HD and I still use this reel. This thing casts so smooth it’s unreal. The design of this reel is absolutely perfect as it’s between the 300-400 size Lexa. I just love the way this reel feels. The power handle does that on my Lexas also.

  • @jaybailleaux630

    Just got my Alijos 300 yesterday. The build quality is equivalent to any $200 reel. My favorite reels are the Lexa 300 and Garcia Revo STX. I regret they cost twice the price of the Piscifun.

  • @trimntim
    @trimntim 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I got it in 8.1 dbl handle r.h. Paired it with the John skinner Dark matter 6'8" heavy power, moderate action. The greater line capacity and drag vs the Quantum Accurist 100 (also a fine reel) suits me better for deep drop sea bass and tautog fishing.

  • @rodfather_bass_fishing

    I bought my first one in Dec. 2019, and I've not been good to it. It's sits out on the deck of the boat in the rain, it doesn't get cleaned, it doesn't get lubed. I've used it in salt water and have caught big stingray and black tip shark with it. It just gets used hard. But it still works like a champ. Still casts smooth as butter, the drag is still smooth as silk, it doesn't make any noises. It just does what it is supposed to do. Tomorrow I'm expecting my 2nd and 3rd Alijoz reels to arrive. I also got all three of mine on sale, or with some other incentive. I've paid a total of LESS than $200 for all three. Great reel at a great price, just with a weird name.

    Just purchased a Piscifun Alijos 300. Looks great with a solid feel. But, when I tried to open the side plate after turning the release screw, the sucker would not unlock. First turned the screw all the way out. Next cupped the left side plate and gently gave it a quick turn. Nothing. Plate appeared to be glued in. Ha.... I finally got it to turn and release the side plate. But, when I went to reattach the plate, more problems. It would not snap in place.
    Am I doing something wrong? Been around a lot of reels and never experienced this type of issue. Contacted the co. but no response yet. I like the reel.
    Excellent website. Glad I came across it.

    Hi mate
    I got this reel when I watched your first video on it. Think I told you in a comment on the video!
    I've been using it ever since.
    What an amazing reel, I chuck big swim baits on it (125g) and it chucks them a mile. It's still as good as new👍
    The only complaint is I lost the rubber strip off the thumb bar. Which is really really annoying 😬
    Wish I could get hold of one from somewhere!
    I'm the same as you I love this reel👍
    Happy New Year bud and tight lines.

    That handle clicking the "bail" shut is a huge deal, even if it only happened 6 times in 6 months. Many of my glidebaits are in excess of $100 a piece, if that spool stops spinning instantly, there goes your bait slinging through the air. I couldn't go for that!

      Ah yes custom glide baits they are very $$$ making sure your handle is turned is a great tip! The main reason it moves is that power handle isn't counter weighted.. so that is designed for vert jigging.. I'm sure you could replace it with a counter style for around 30-40 bucks

    Where do I begin? After watching your initial video on the whole setup, a while ago, and finding your 6-month review recently, I took a chance and jumped on the "band-wagon". I ordered the reel and it arrived within a few days; I then ordered the rod which took a little longer but got delivered late Thursday afternoon. Since Thursday night, through last evening, I spent about 30 hours on the piers here in the FL Panhandle. After buying heavier spoons (1 & 2oz) something I normally don't purchase, I was able to tune the reel and lob those spoons into to wind 100+ yds while catching Jumbo Spanish Mackerel, Blue-Runners, Bonita, Jack Caravels, and can't forget the occasional dolphin and sharks stealing your fish after taking you for a ride.
    This was exactly what I wanted and needed as a heavier bait-caster fishing setup in saltwater. I have multiple RevoX Inshore setup and have muscled 27" Black drum and multiple 30"+ Redfish up as well. This larger gear setup is perfect because it's beefy enough to handle whatever (thus far), but not too beefy where I don't enjoy casting it all day. With the gearing of the reel and backbone of the rod, I can make lightwork of catching these big-shouldered fish and this combo is going to get a workout soon once Red Snapper season opens. I can also cast it literally as far if not further than the person next to me and I really like that about it.
    I felt the pain you mentioned (handle flipped over) three times this weekend while learning this reel. I found that gripping the rod & reel as I'm about to cast then lining the handle up at 6 o' clock, bracing it against the back of my hand kept it from flipping over. It's only when I didn't do this, rushed the cast or simply thought I had one of my RevoXs in my hand, was I reminded that this setup will not allow me to get away with sloppy casting... By the way, that sound it makes is truly mortifying. I have 40# braid on most of my inshore spinning & bait caster setups and the 30# made me question life a few times while hooked on some fish this weekend, but it didn't fail me, so I'll keep it on this reel.
    Long story short, I'm going to purchase another (same) setup soon, but pair it with 50# or 60# braid vs the current 30#, because the water is warming up and the big (legally edible) fish are moving back in, and I need to stock my freezer with more fish "doctors' orders". You can't beat the price-point for this setup and even after a short usage of it, I can say that thus far, it is defiantly worth its weight in gold. If you're on the fence about buying it, like Nike said back in the day, "just do it".

    • @phytobedo
      @phytobedo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for that incredibly thought out comment. I’m certainly glad you enjoyed the setup!

    How’s it kept up after 3 years? I got one as a “budget” musky reel. I say “budget” because apparently musky gear is like three times more expensive than any other freshwater fish. But I bought one of these reels. I’ve got two musky with it this month, I’ve been using it for drum and catfish at night to add to the torture test lol
    But I love how far it cast as well and the fact that it has 30+ pound of drag. And I want to buy two more for my catfish rods because of the awesome casting distance and a power handle. But it’s only like $50 off from the Shimano Cardiff, or ambassador. I know those will last me a lifetime.
    The next step up on something like this is 250+ I want to get your opinion on someone who’s owned it for a couple years.

      You get what you pay for. Is not comparable in any which ever way to Shimano curado. This is a cheap reel. Mine broke in under few hours of use targeting tautog in Jersey. I have used Curado, Avet and other Shimano bait casting reels. This reel is really cheap in price but mine broke(power handle is stuck). Maybe a manufacturing defect, but still. My curado is made in Japan, it is a different class reel. Lasted many years and then I self serviced it and upgraded the washer's. It will last a life time. I didn't have much expectations from this reel, just wanted a backup maybe but it is a flimsy reel.

    I’ve been using my Alijos this summer at bridges and the inlets as my swimbait/jig rod for snook and it’s a tank! My only issue is that my braid (40 lb) tends to dig into itself frequently with heavier drag and eventually cause bird nests. I tied my braid directly to the spool and do you think that could be why? Did you use any mono backing or just straight. I love the reel but I’m trying to re-spool and do it correctly this time. Thanks for the video!

    • @phytobedo
      @phytobedo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would try a little mono backing, like 20 lb test. Just like 10 winds of the handle worth.
      When you put the braid on, tighten your drag all the way, and put as much tension on the line as you can while spooling it.

    • @wills2397
      @wills2397 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Phytobedo Fishing Thanks for the quick response. Yeah I don’t remember if I had the drag fully tightened when I spooled it last. I’ll tighten it down this time for sure and try backing.

I tried adjusting it, with the magnets set to the halfway mark, and the tension knob set to where the weight *just* starts to fall to the floor. It doesn't backlash then, but it does when I loosen the tension just a hair more. What gives?

      The thing about magnetic brake systems some are too tight and some too loose. Sounds like yours might be a little loose or magnets further away than some. In my case I could not get it to cast far enough with mag off. Even with ceramic bearings. So I removed a couple mags from each side now my casting distance is twice as far. Hope this helps. You should be able to control the spool well with the mag settings.

    I recently purchased this reel and plan on using it in saltwater off Oregon. Because saltwater is so hard on a reel, I think maintenance will be needed frequently to keep the reel operating smoothly. How do you remove the side plate to get access to the spool bearings? I've tried loosening the thumb screw on the handle side and then remove the non-handle side plate, but it won't budge. The reel is brand new and I do not want to force anything.
