      Thin layers thinned with mineral spirits actually dry as fast as 30 minutes. Fun stuff! 😊🎨🎨🎨

    Nice demo, and good introduction to oil paints. I have the VanGogh Starter set which has a good price quality ratio. And Also some additional extra fine oils from various brandt.
    But I am curious to hear your point of view on Water Soluble Oils (WSO) for miniaturs painting. I have ssen WSO demos for canvas painting but nothing for minis.
    In particular I'd like to know if you can wet blend or use the 2 brushes techniques with WSO. And also if you can glaze with WSO. My humble understanding, is that if you add too much water WSO might loose some properties, hence washes and glazes might not works as well as regular oils with thinner. I'm aware of WSO dedicated thinners but I don't have any practical feedback.
    I ask this because I have some odor sensititvity even with "odorless" thinner and I have to use a mask when working with regular oils, so water based oils would be great for me.

      Thanks! I have a handful of WSO! But the color choices are so limited. They do work well with glazing and washes though. Weird paints that really acts like oils. Do I recommend them, well they feel different. I guess it takes a little getting used to. But much like traditional oils, they highlight and shade nicely. Also they dry almost as slow. Cheers! 😊

    I am trying too, but your yellow is just incredible. So much coverage over white, I always get it less vibrant and too transparent

      Oil paints? What brand and what did you use to thin them? 😊

    • @Sylvaantye
      @Sylvaantye 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      transparency really differs between brand and line. I see Don is mainly painting with the professional instead of student line. Some colours are available in multiple series (Winsor & Newton), where the higher series typically has better pigment, thus often being less transparent. Also, with oils thin over thick and vice versa is very important.

    I notice that if I add gloss medium into acrylics, they start to gain vibrancy. Yet, oil paints have satin finish and vibrant as a glossy acrylics to say at least!

      Actually, my Gamblin oil paints are very matte. And they are still much more vibrant. 😉

    Hello Don, thanks for your videos, can you use the same brushes for oils as for acrylics or do they have to be specific?

    • @DonSuratos
      @DonSuratos  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can sir. But I kinda assigned specific brushes for acrylics and for oils. 😊

    I’ve been wanting to paint with oils! I’ve given it a shot a couple times before but nothing serious. but this video has given me the drive to go at it again.
    Do you varnish at any point while painting with oils? Like when you went on to the shade/highlight step?

    • @DonSuratos
      @DonSuratos  ปีที่แล้ว

      The painting of the Orange oils is actually the 2nd day of painting already. I cannot remember if I airbrushed a quick matte varnish. I usually do after an overnight of curing / drying. 😊🎨🎨🎨

    I just don't get how you paint with diluted oils without ruining bottom layers

    • @DonSuratos
      @DonSuratos  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am using “fast matte” Gamblin’s fast drying oils for the bottom layers sir.

    Oil paint is not easy to dry, how long does it take to dry?

    • @DonSuratos
      @DonSuratos  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Fast Matte dries in 10 to 20 mins. The other oils in an hour or two I think. 😊
