Remember before the internet? When you'd be in the theater watching previews when you found out they were making a new Batman movie by seeing the trailer? That used to be exciting as hell.
yup good ole days. one thing am bother about movies nowadays is the damn commercials in theaters now. come on i didn't pay to see commercials which i can see for free on T.V. i pay to see a trailer & a movie. commercial is the only thing that bothers me about theaters IDK maybe it's just me. lol.
dante bigguy True that, it seems like we only get three or four trailers but about twenty non-movie related commercials. I would prefer it if we had it the other way round
Agreed WeWacthedAMovie!! Even if that movie is just a guilty pleasure today, when I was like 10, I saw the POSTER of Mortal Kombat the movie that was about to come out...one of the biggest OMFG moment of my life lol Because there's was no internet, no trailers(except on tv) that you could see. I remember waiting in line in the theater with my friend to pay for the movie we were aboout to see...and we saw the poster...and that was it for us! We wanted so bad to see the movie as soon it would come out! Today's expectations are so freaking high because of a trailer that(more often than never) misguides you or tell you so much that you don't have any more imagination left...it's sad really. That's why I loved the trailer of Looper(for example) actually...because it told the basics of the movie for sure...but they left on purpose a big part of that movie which was more important to give you a : Wait...what?? Holy crap!! That's even more awesome! lolll
I remember when I first found out about the Iron Man movie with the Super Bowl spot. Iron Man had always been my favorite superhero, and as a 8 year old I was pumped!
Oh please, you can very easily cut a teaser in such a way that you instantly know action, comedy, sci-fi, horror, or drama. And that is all you need to know. If it looks cool you go see it if not you don't. I have quite literally stopped watching trailers at this point and I enjoy my movies vastly more. Nothing is spoiled and everything is fresh and exciting. Helps that I don't have regular TV anymore so I don't see endless TV spots too. Just watch a teaser decide if it is interesting, wait for a few people to see it and hear what they think. If I am still intrigued I go see it. If not I wait for it to drop on Netflix or rent the DVD. Absolutely nothing better than waiting especially on something like Batman v Superman. Still haven't seen the theatrical cut only the extended cut. So I walked away feeling like it was decent.
I can recall quite a few movies that had short trailers that you still knew what genre and what enemies are in it. For Spiderman 2 (original Doc Oc) they could've shown some shots with Peter and Mary Jane having fun, then moved to a scene with Oc attaching the suit to himself, end trailer
Teasers are typically about 30 seconds and show little more than a title and some minor but iconic scene of a major character. Trailers are about 2 minutes long and show most of the major action sequences and often some of the best jokes from the movie. To the point where after about the 3rd trailer you have watched almost the entire movie and have certain expectations of what you will see. A teaser really gives you nothing more than this is an action film about this. And that should be enough if it is a good movie.
I love the way Alfred Hitchcock did the trailers for Psycho and The Birds. It's just him talking to the audience about the premise of the film while not actually telling us anything. He makes it sound intriguing, like the movies hold a big secret that he's almost telling us. Then he ends the trailers with a 5 second clip of the movie followed by a title card. Masterful!
That is cool, I never knew he did that. Modern directors should try that. Directors are very important to movies so it makes sense for them to present a film, imagine Steven Spielberg introducing us to Jurassic park 5!
Batman Begins trailer- mostly a Christian Bale voice-over in which we see his bearded face somewhere in Asia, and don't even realize this is a Batman movie until we see incredibly brief flashes of Batman at the very end, followed by the title. Hyped. Batman v. Superman trailer- HEY GUYS LEMME TELL YOU ABOUT THIS MOVIE BATMAN DOESN'T LIKE SUPERMAN BECAUSE HE EXPLODED HIS BUILDING SO BATMAN DECIDES TO FIGHT HIM BUT REALLY LEX LUTHOR IS BEHIND IT ALL AND THEN WONDER WOMAN SHOWS UP AND BATMAN AND SUPERMAN BECOME FRIENDS BUT ALSO DOOMSDAY IS THE THIRD ACT AND THE SUBTITLE IS "DAWN OF JUSTICE" BECAUSE THE NEXT ONE AFTER THIS IS THE JUSTICE LEAGUE ONE. Not hyped.
The first time I saw Castaway as a kid definitely a great movie but also lucky that I never seen a trailer of that movie when it first came out no TV spots nothing still I can't believe they had the guts to show key scenes of the movie especially the final shot wow.
sanjay pallur I hate trailers that show scenes that aren't in the movie almost as much as trailers that spoil. The trailer is supposed to interest the audience by showing how the movie's going to be generally. When there are there scenes from the trailer that aren't in the movie, the people are lying about what's going to be in the movie, which is just as annoying as them lying about the genre of the movie. The example Chris used about Rhino vs Spidey is good for this, because it's Sony tricking the audience into thinking that there's going to be a cool fight, but there isn't one. Either way they're lying and tricking the audience about the content of a movie. Whether it's the amount of content or type of content, it's annoying for them to lie about it.
+Luis Villalobos yeah... Amazing Spider-Man 2 almost have shown everything in trailers... Ur point z ryt.. Me too thought there would be much longer fight with rhino
Amazing trailers that don't spoil the film or false advertise: - The Dark Knight Rises - Interstellar - Kong: Skull Island - Hunger Games: Catching Fire - Dunkirk - Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Black Mass - Insidious
The Interstellar definitely took something from the movie. The first trailer built up this amazing idea of them pushing through the wormhole with no idea of what might be on the reverse...and then we see them on a water planet. For me it really killed the wonder of might lay beyond the horizon.
@@a.morphous66 I would argue that Godzilla 2014 is one of the trailers I hate the most. Misleading as hell and it made me HATE the movie. They cash in on Bryan Cranston's Breaking Bad popularity and barely use him, and made it look like it was going to be different from all the monster attack movies (which we have already a thousand of) but it was very cookie cutter movie and it disappointed me a lot. And I LOVE movie trailers most of the time. Another good example of a misleading trailer is for the movie Super (2010).
According to what the video told us: Best trailer of the year: Star Wars: The Force Awakens Worst trailer of the year: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice
+Paral1ax yeah! well said! f-off Batman V Superman trailer. for the love of films, i hope the actual film makes up for how shitty viewers feel abt the trailer! Star wars's trailer was bloody awesome. its so simple, 1) use just enough to make viewers excited to see film 2) don't actually show anything significant abt the plot 3) allow viewers to enjoy the bloody film! Also, Deadpool trailer... they pretty much used ad lib footage in the earlier trailers, still great and a fun bonus for fans! "less angry rosie o'donnell", anyone?
10 Cloverfield Lane had a perfect trailer. It gives you some idea about the movie, like that it takes place in an underground bunker. Mary Elizabeth Winstead seems to be held captive, etc. but, beyond that, you know nothing. The trailer makes you want to know more about the movie, know how MEW got there, how John Goodman fits into everything, what's with MEW attacking John Goodman.
Jackson DeStefano, Yes, loved it, and just like the trailer, the movie keeps you guessing as to what was really going on. There needs to be a public outcry about studios allowing there movies to be spoiled by trailers.
It came up when I was seeing Civil War, a while ago, and even though I was not into that kind of film I had to tell myself "damn that's some good stuff"
If I adopted that practice, I'd end up wasting time and money on movies like Batman v Superman. At least that trailer told me I will be disappointed in the film, the same way Jurassic World did.
+Won Ton Well at least certain directors and studios know how to keep secrets like Disney and Lucasfilm along with Steven Spielberg J.J. Abrams and Christopher Nolan
fatsamcastle true i agree but think of how much more hype they could have gotten by just eluding to a character rather than out right showing said character. I am just saying they didn't have to reveal him to build hype.
Preston Davis It would have made no difference. The only persons that would have benefited from that reveal would have been those who went to see it on day 1. Because minutes after the movie it would have been all over the internet how Spiderman is now in the MCU. It's not like olden days. Pretty much everyone has access to the net, and wouldn't be able to avoid such an announcement. And the fact that you wait for the movie to make a reveal so it can be spread by word of mouth due to hype, would still be the same as just revealing it from the get go.
orestisDisturbed Though to be fair ... All Star Wars needs as a trailer to intrigue is the STAR WARS logo shown one minute while John Williams is playing, and a billion dollar box office is guaranteed ^^ But you are right, and I think trailers are an art-form in themselves if done right, sadly most are ...*sigh*...
I think the worst to date is the trailer for Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which spoiled for everyone that Colin Firth's character, Harry, is still alive. It would have been an awesome surprise given the fact we all thought he was dead after Samuel L. Jackson's character, Valentine, shot Harry in the head in the first movie.
I stopped watching movie trailers a long time ago. If I'm in the theater I'll watch unless I see a trailer start for a movie I KNOW I'm going to see. I put my fingers in my ears close my eyes and hum to cover the sound. It sounds ridiculous but no one can really see me doing it and I've been spared
SuperTortilhaDeMorango that's taking it a little far. leave my popcorn at my seat? lose my seat? not knowing when the movie begins? trying to find my seat in the dark? walking in front of everyone when the movie begins is distracting. nope. everyone is focused on the screen. they aren't looking at me.
digitalblasphemy1100 Arround here in Brasil there is no risk of loosing your seat, since they all have numbers and choose where you are gonna sit when you buy the ticket. Well, except for some movies in small towns where the maximum of people you will normaly find will be like 10 people. But trying to find your sit in the dark and distracting people is not good two. Anyways, whatever works for you is good enough.
digitalblasphemy1100 Yeah, here is a pretty damn nice country, and the woman here are gorgeus! The only problem is that probably all of the most stupid and/or corrupt politicians of all politician's(wich already tend to be corrupt and stupid) seem to be here in Brasil. :/
Godzilla is the perfect example of a great trailer that psychs you up while barelly revealing the monsters. It just gives you a tease of the size and scope of the film and leaves you wanting more.
***** he's barely shown. He is either halfway hidden by buildings, smoke, fog, or other various obstructions. We have yet to see the entire monster let alone the other two in the film
***** Yeah true but I think that Godzilla is not the same in the actual movie though, he looked kinda different, dunno. Also, by all accounts there's tons in the new movie we haven't seen yet
***** I swear I didn't mean to sound like I was arguing xD I was strengthening my point. I can't leave myself open for stupid comments so I try have good points.
Unfortunately, greedy Hollywood bastardized the Godzilla trailers too. That was pretty much the first trailer which promised secrecy and intrigue only for the next few months to be over-saturated with a hundred different Godzilla trailers that perfectly showed it and a slew of clips in addition. Yeah, nothing's safe...
Everybody, who knows Godzilla, knows how the monster looks. The trailer doesn't reveal anything, because there isn't anything to reveal. It's not a great trailer, but it shows what you can expect by this movie: CGI, CGI, CGI.
Edge of tomorrow is another example of a trailer misrepresenting a movie. The trailer made the movie looke like a jaded sci-fi bore, when in fact, it was everything but that
well,Edge of tomorrow seems to have a good trailer too...you never see the aliens,if there are any. Though i agree with you Chris, even Days of Future past shows off Rogue in the trailer, yet you never see her until the end of the movie...not that i mind in this case, since i can't stand the sight of that actress...
Luis Martinep That's only a fraction of what I'm talking about, but these factors still weighed down the entertainment value for me. One thing in particular that pissed me off was how much potential there was in the beginning of the film that was lost.
Pretty much every Nolan movie has an incredible trailer. The Dark Knight, Inception and Tenet are some of my favourite trailers ever... 1917 and Walter Mitty as well had great trailers. The MCU, however, has kinda been ruining its films through trailers for years.
As much as I love Marvel Studios, I don't like certain aspects of their marketing. For example, with Avengers they show the Hulk catching Iron Man at the end. And in Thor: The Dark World they show the scene where Thor takes out the rock creature. Those aren't exactly major spoilers, but they're moments that would have been amazing to have seen for the very first time DURING the movie. That said, I loved the marketing for Iron Man 3, where the first trailer wasn't "Iron Man kicks ass!", it was "Iron Man gets his ass kicked. How is he going to fight back?". That was a great marketing approach.
I dont think that the hulk catching iron man and the thor bashing the rock thing were spoilers at all. it is expected that death in the marvel universe isnt taken seriously. Also, thor bashing that rock thing was also not a big WOW OMG moment or even a spoiler that takes away from the movie. It seems that it was just comic relief. Perfect spoiler examples are stuff like Gwen stacy final moment in tasm 2 trailers. But in any case, its all subjective i get it.
Army1601 yeah they used the trailers well. the nick fury dying thing was handled well. I though he was dead until just before the red herring reveal scene.
Yes Trilbee, but think about a certain point Chris brought up, "lines and scenes in the trailer that aren't in the movie". With Iron Man 3, almost every single line the Manderin says in the trailer isn't in the movie, "I'm gonna offer a choice, do you want an empty life, or a meaningful death", basically with the movie, the studio lied to us (Disclaimer: I love Marvel Studios and their movies, I just have a strong hatred for the Manderin in Iron Man 3). Really think about this, Iron Man 3 is the only movie I've seen, that flat out lies, by using the trailer and people expectations, to enhance a twist, that wasn't very good to begin with.
Trailers are definitely ruining movies. At least for me. A example: Looper's trailer made me believe about a freaking action movie with Joseph Gordon-Levitt vs. Bruce Willis, and was nothing like it. It was VERY disappointing. I decided from now on avoid trailers as long as I can.
The Terminator - That time travel is involved. Terminator 2: Judgement Day - That the T-800 is a hero this time. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - That they still lose and Judgement Day wasn't prevented. Terminator Salvation - That Marcus Wright is a Terminator. Terminator Genisys - That John Connor is a Terminator.
Unfortunately they've released tones of clips from the movie revealing key plot points and even a clip from possibly the final fight between Godzilla and the flying creature (sorry I can't remember it's name)
I haven't watch any of those cause apparently they show you like really good shots of Godzilla so im guessing in a way they do spoil you some interesting shots, but correct me if im wrong cause i haven't watch them, specifically cause i wanna see the full look of the monster once the movie comes out
I have tried with all my heart not to be spoiled by the clips flying in front of my face when I watch youtube... but still.. I now know what the creature looks like. Even that japan thinks it's too fat. Bah... staying spoiler free is nearly impossible in this environment.
How to Train you dragon 2's first trailer revealed a huge spoiler.... Hiccup finds her mother!!!! Ironman 3's trailers made us think it would be a serious, dark and awesome movie, as well as Age of Ultron's. >:(
madd ace I haven't seen Age of Ultron but Iron Man was filled with plot holes and suffers from what I call "the 10 minutes syndrome" - an otherwise decent movie gets obliterated by the last 10 minutes because of how bad they are.
Another problem with movie trailers is that they ALL HAVE THE SAME CLICHÉS! The top 3 worst clichés are: 1. The constant fade to black between every cut. 2. The overwhelming amount of drums and booms. 3. Everything, no matter what kind of movie it is, comes off as extremely dramatic and serious. I'm talking action comedies here as well, like The Avengers and Escape Plan, all act like they're The Dark Knight or something when in reality they're just humorous popcorn films. I have yet to see a trailer for a big-budget Hollywood movie that doesn't do this.
Solarstar10 It's actually something a lot of people are complaining about. I can't express how annoying it is how the entire theatre turns dark every second of a trailer. Watch AVGN's top 10 worst movie clichés for a better explanation on why this needs to stop.
Honestly for movies that I want to see I do not watch the full trailer for them. For example before Force Awakens came out I only watched that first 30 second teaser trailer and then went on a full media blackout and did not watch or read anything about Force Awakens until it came out. Was able to go into the movie without any expectations and enjoyed the heck out of it.
Some trailers are beyond spoilers. They are a whole new category, mini-movies showing short clips from the entire movie, beginning, middle and end. Of course for certain movies, that can be helpful ;)
+Mariko True Yes, very true. Spoilers don't bother me whatsoever (I'll truly never understand why it does bother some people, but I digress), but yes trailers do do that sometimes.
Boba Fett Yeah, I think, while I don't care about spoilers, I thought it was interesting the way that trailer was done. Felt like the Marketing Department did that trailer and Zack Snyder did the Comic-Con Trailer.
One trailer I despise from misleading information is Avengers: Age of Ultron. At the end, it shows a bunch of ruins with Captain America's shield being broken in half, and then Ultron towering over the camera like he's made his victory. When I first saw the trailer I was like "Oh no! Is something happening to Captain America? Is he gonna die?!" But no. It was a freaking dream sequence *near the beginning of the movie*. I was so disappointed in seeing that scene that it almost completely killed the movie for me.
Raul Mejia It's just gonna be another terrible cash grab anyway. The Terminator movies should have ended at 2. judgement day averted, there was no need for continuation with those last few horrible abominations, but MONEY!!!!!
I hate trailers. I'll usually watch the first trailer or teasers, but NEVER post release trailers. They're the worst. The trailer for Ouija Origin of Evil had literally EVERY scare, with the exception of maybe 2 small ones. Trailer studios have to STOP cutting horror trailers like action trailers. It's fine to show a bunch of explosions and car chases and action beats in a trailer, cause not much is given away. But with horror, when you show every death/scare, you're taking away a key part of the movie. Trailers... blech.
Godzilla was exceptional at trailer marketing! The teaser trailer from December got me so pumped up with the way the HALO jump segment was put together and then having it conclude with Godzilla's silhouette in a big debris cloud followed by that HUGE roar, it was fantastic! Then the main trailer came out and STILL managed to keep mystery even though it featured more character dialogue, footage and even a brief look at Godzilla. Those two trailers had me set for MONTHS and now we're only a week away with only like 30% of the story revealed. More I talk about it, the more I think its going to be epic.
It's only 6 days away and I'm still not even sure what the movie is about lol I feel like this marketing strategy might start becoming a lot more common. It works great with Godzilla.
+Avi Kid I still liked that trailer. Don't know why some people didn't like it. I mean, sure, it gave some plot points away and maybe even the whole movie, but I don't see why people are so bothered about being spoiled.
George Daugherty coz some ppl want to experience the movie in full and be surprised. Im still gonna see the movie, Theyre 2 of my favourite charactrs.
George Daugherty they could, but still one less surprise... the more surprises the better so marketing fail. The movie could still be great just a bad trailer...
Avi Kid You know, I just found the trailer to be interesting, nonetheless. It seems like the Marketing Department did this latest trailer and Zack Snyder did the comic-con trailer.
I say a movie needs two or three good trailers: a one minute teaser to get the tone across; a one and a half minute second one to show a bit more action; one last trailer about two minutes long to set up some of the plot and show a bit more action and then leave it at that.
+Vian Muhammad Abdullah It does, but there may have been a serious spoiler in there. Avoid the comments section on that trailer if you don't want to know. If I saw what I think I did, I will be furious with JJ, even if the film is great. Edit: I did not see what I thought I did, although they still committed an unholy sin in that trailer.
JustinianXLIII exactly zack always releases to many trailers man of steel had 3 trailers of 4 minutes I didn't watch them than god only one the shortest one. Justice league had like 5 trailers too.
It's like the Godzilla 2014 movie. All the trailers made him out to be villain. They had shots of Godzilla in the middle of a destroyed city, and roaring at a shelter, and all these shots to make it look like Godzilla was the big threat, AND they made it look like Bryan was the main character. Instead Godzilla is a super hero and Bryan dies!
See, I think the trailers did. From the trailer I saw my theory was that Godzilla was the threat and the other monsters were either aliens or maybe monsters controlled by the humans
EXACTLY!!!!!! OMG I'm glad I ain't the only one. I mean it's still a great movie, but the trailers scared the shit outta me! Just like how Chris said it was scary from the first two trailers. I was so freaking hyped, and when I got to the theater I was disappointed, but it still made me like it.
+Carl Bryant Yeah Godzilla sold me on a completely different film that what I saw and it pissed me way off. The trailer had the tone of the original Gojira but the Godzilla in the actual film was so damn tame! He goes so far out of his way not to harm humans that I was just shaking my head in disbelief.
Godzilla (2014) SPOILERS 90% of the trailer is Bryan Cranston, yet he dies, 20 minutes into the film. The rest is Godzilla, who only shows up in the last 10 minutes of the movie. Inglorious Bastards SPOILERS The trailer is just Brad Pitt Hunting Nazis and scalping them. The film is just 2.5 hours of a Jewish woman blowing up a theater.
Venom NBK One of the largest chapters of Inglourious Basterds takes place in a tavern and doesn't really touch on Shoshanna and the movie theatre, but yeah, Brad Pitt's involvement in the central plot is somewhat overstated in the trailer. He's the box office draw, unfortunately.
Venom NBK I get where you're going with inglorious Basterds, but it was a great movie and I actually appreciated that I did not expect anything about it.
Venom NBK You're not saying Inglourious Basterds is a bad movie, right? I don't care about Godzilla but Inglourious Basterds is my favorite Tarantino movie besides Reservoir Dogs.
Guys, try the "one trailer rule" that my friend and I use. It's not easy but you basically just watch the first trailer and avoid everything else after that. I've been doing it since after Amazing Spider-Man 2. It works so well.
@@saibgassanov3378 I think there's a big difference between watching a trailer once at theaters and watching it endlessly at home. We rewatch trailers at home so many times that we eventually sell ourselves what the movie should be.
I've started watching only the main trailers and no TV spots. I don't want too much footage before going into the movie. I use Twitter so sometimes I see clips of TV spots but I try to limit my exposure to them as much as possible.
I can't say for sure, but I suspect the new "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" trailer gave away pretty much the entire movie beat for beat. After some amazing teaser and trailers that got me really pumped for the movie they released one that was just.... "What! Did I just see five major plot events!?" They are lucky I love Serkis because the trailer almost took away all my curiosity for the movie. Idjits!
Brandon Fontaine Yes. And I wonder what could have pushed Caesar over the edge and called an all out war on the humans? Bet it had nothing to do with that scene when they came to the city and then a bunch of stuff happened...
Brandon Fontaine You watch the 1968 Planet of the Apes and you know that they win. Everyone knows that the apes win. Duh! This is a movie that's a prequel to that! Good golly how stupid are people!?
Not only do they show that he makes it off the island, but they actually suggest that the movie is about his transition afterwards. It suggests that he gets off in the first act and most the movie is the parts glanced at in the ending.
***** it portrayed bryan cranston as the main character, godzilla as a villain/force of nature, tried to hide the actual main character, and used clips that were not even in the movie.
Brady Pomeroy and those two are mutually exclusive? You are right, it was great advertisement, I was pumped to see the movie. Sadly, they never made that movie.
Godzilla was the biggest disappointment of this year in my opinion. The trailers made it look so good, but in actual fact what we got was 2 acts of boring cliche dialogue.
CHRIS, ALERT! This problem does not just affect trailers. I was given the DVD of Terminator Salvation for Xmas a few years ago. I had not seen the film or the trailer and didn't know what to expect. All I knew was it was set in the future Man-Machine war and looked at the back of the box. There was Sam Worthington's face, half of it missing and showing his Terminator skeleton underneath! At that point I knew what would happen in the film without even watching a trailer or reading spoilers, IT WAS ON THE DVD BOX!
suicide squad is a perfect example of this...they cut a ton of joker scenes out that they sold us in commercials to get our butts in the seats cuz lets face it joker sells more than deadshot and boomerang. and the fact that wb had the people who made the bohemian rhapsody trailer CUT THE FUCKIN FINAL MOVIE CUZ PPL LOVED THE TRAILER SO MUCH....awful. god awful. i guarantee you, enchantress n all, sucide squad originally had a pretty dope cut, but we were presented with a hot mess bc of the success of the trailer. fuck trailers. trailers need to be like the shining. just a 30 second shot of blood pouring down a hallway. its visually stunning, and overall intriguing, yet gives ZERO away. lastly, even w the hot mess cut that was suicide squad...had we just watched that movie and all those amazing characters with batman sprinkled in on the side for the first time WITHOUT A TRAILER LIKE BOHEMIAN? we'd be happy campers. but we all see the best scenes of these movies over and over again due to the trailers showing you the best of what the movie offers. we need to turn more of a blind eye i suppose cuz i don't see it stopping anytime soon.
With WW and JL I think WB learned their lesson, it doesn't spoil anything and gets you hyped. But I swear to Jesus, if one scene, one fucking scene of any trailer is not in the movie, I'm done with WB/DC publicity
+Krin Szok Well only 2 movies is BAD in the upcoming DCEU movies, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Suicide Squad. Because Man Of Steel is a good but somewhat divisive movie. Let's hope Wonder Woman and Justice League, are 2 GOOD movies so that the DCEU can match up to the MCU. So that we can watch both Marvel and DC!
man of steel was crap , i had headaches during that movie , so many blur in 3d , and why the fuck do hollywood thinks that destroying an entire city is cool to watch , we are not in the 90's anymore , effin tired of seeing everything explode . Batman saved dawn of justice , cause once again , superman was crap , they need to revised his powers .
lilsabin man of steel wasn't crap and watching buildings being destroyed is fun to watch and plus it's superman he's a superhero buildings will be destroyed
I honestly have to give props to the Russo Bro's etc. for the way their trailer was shot for the 'Civil War' movie. Most of the scenes that were in the trailer were in the actual movie, but the best part is the scenes in the trailer were shot from a different angle. So when you actually saw the movie you recognised some scenes but they were completely different because they were from a different angle to what you saw in the trailer. I find it quite refreshing and caring that they took that into consideration.
You mentioned Castaway but... I can't remember anyone at the time getting upset about the reveal. People still enjoyed it. I guess some people were more interested in what he did to survive not if he survived. And probably anticipated there would be more to the story than just that.
Fabio Vecchionacce The best trailer I have seen so far is Alien. Really it just left me breathless even though I have already watched the movie prior. The trailer will provoke your imagination as to what the fuck is going on because it revealed nothing as any trailer should do.
What about A Million Ways to Die in the West? That trailer showed every funny part of that movie, and then there was nothing to enjoy when you actually see it.
+C Delany He states just what you said. How sometimes trailers can portray a movie one way and when you go to see it, it is totally different than what you thought....Listen much?
The last duel trailer spoils absolutely everything about the film. I'm so happy that I watched the movie before seeing the trailer. I came here afterwards to went anger towards spoiling trailers.
Still haven't seen The Force Awakens trailer. We're going in completely fresh to that movie. The one thing we can't escape is the random still image attached to story headlines and the "Crazy Fan theory for Episode 7!!! Luke is a....(blah blah blah)" Just have to stop reading those sentences before we get to the end. So far so good.
haha. I'm sure it is! For us though it's not really about possible spoilers. It's about going into the movie completely fresh, not having seen a single shot. It's pretty awesome.
+Anders Linden We did! And it was glorious! Then we went and watched all the trailers after and it was fun to see what everyone was reacting to after the fact. But very glad we went in fresh.
+GnarlyTooth I did the same. After I saw the teaser I was satisfied already, so I had to mute and switch channels a lot when the 1st and 2nd trailer came out and ran on TV all the time during breaks and on the news and all the stuff and talking on the internet of course. It was a hard time, mentally and technically hehe. But man, I was so glad I was able to go through that time without "picking up" anything about Episode VII and experienced the movie in cinema completely open minded and fresh (and was blown away). THEN I went on research, collecting all kind of info, watching TH-cam videos up and down, downloading wallpapers AND WATCHED THE 2ND TRAILER FOR ABOUT 50 TIMES since then :) Can't await the BluRay!
It’s the trailers that pre-date 2003 that I hate the most. It’s because if they’re 80s or 90s movies, the trailer almost always has the cheesy narrator, and they’re always 4 minutes long and spoil everything. As for most of the trailers pre-80s, half of them don’t even exist - so they just take out scenes that give no context.
chris can you please explain why each movie or big blockbusters has three trailers? When i was kid you only needed one trailer to advertise your movie...
My top Favorite Trailers These are all teaser trailers on this list 2001 a Space Odyssey (1968) Star Wars (1977) Alien (1979) Scarface (1983) Back to the Future (1985) Die Hard 2 (1990) Child's Play 2 (1990) Terminator 2 Judgment Day (1991) Jurassic Park (1993) The Fugitive (1993) Twister (1996) Face/Off (1997) The Truman Show (1998) Toy Story 2 (1999) Unbreakable (2000) Monsters Inc (2001) Finding Nemo (2003) Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) The Incredibles (2004) Spider-Man 2 (2004) Casino Royale (2006) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) Indiana Jones 4 (2008) The Dark Knight (2008) Up (2009) District 9 (2009) Inception (2010) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (2010) The Dark Knight Rises (2012) Interstellar (2014) Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse (2018)
It's getting worse now, but it isn't really anything new. Most Hollywood trailers have always given away a shit ton of plot and misleading tone to get people in seats. I mean a lot of trailers in the 70s were over 3 minutes long and consisted of a narrator basically outlining the plot, particularly for horror films. There were always exceptions, like the trailer for Alien, or any Kubrick film, just like there are exceptions today. But yes, definitely a big big problem, especially now with online ads and TV spots running rampant.
What you stated about "a lot of trailers in the 70s were over 3 minutes long and consisted of a narrator basically outlining the plot, particularly for horror films" rings especially true for the film "Carrie." I watched that trailer months ago (though I don't think for the first time) after I watched the 2013 remake of that story with my sister.
I agree with you, Jordan. Watching the special features on DVD/Blu-Ray, I'm floored by how much is revealed in so many trailers that I've made a point of never watching them before the movie. "The Last Starfighter (1984)" popped in my head as I read "over 3 minutes long and consisted of a narrator basically outlining the plot." I was stunned that the entire movie is laid out so nonchalantly in the trailer. I also agree with Chris about the irritating use of scenes shot specifically for the trailer and also changing the tone of the trailer to fill seats. "The Invisible (2007)" looked like some kind of supernatural mystery, but the actual movie was anything but. At one point in the trailer, the protagonist meets an elderly spirit at the hospital who gives our hero "the rules" of being between worlds and tells him to find his body before it's too late. This whole scene in the trailer doesn't appear anywhere in the final film. It was a real let down.
Im sorry to say this and I probably might get a lot of negative comments but I think Spider Man played by Tobey Maguire is so much better than the Amazing Spider Man. Like Seriously.
KgDrifty™ Somebody said it before (dont remember the video) but the thing about Sam Raimi's Spiderman (1 and 2) for me was this, i liked the guy because he WANTED to be a hero. He's still a bit dumb, shy, he gets bullied but when he's not Peter Parker he's really an awesome superhero. Peter Parker doesnt need to be clever all the time, he would look too smug. But when he's Spiderman he can be witty and funny and resourceful. That's why Raimi's Spiderman has a more power-fantasy-comic-feel-like- when we see Peter become a superhero...that was totally ruined with Spiderman 3. excuse my english.
Same with Babadook. It is a phenomenal movie. But I went there thinking it is a supernatural horror movie with jumpscares. So, I was disappointed first when I found out the movie was more about psychological horror. But when I was able to get past my Initial expectation, I was able to enjoy that movie.
Yup I think so most of the time, unless they are unrelated but clever, like that Purge: Election Year trailer that was made in the style of an American TV Ad about joining in the Purge.
Made me think about the Hunger Games 2. When I read the book it was a totally shocking plot twist that they had to go back into the arena. And when the movie came out, the movie trailer showed pretty much exactly that they were back in the arena... That's why I told everybody I know who liked the first movie to first read the books before the movies would spoil the surprises ahead.
I completely agree! When I saw that the trailers spoiled it, I was very disappointed because I wanted people to be surprised like I was when I read the book!
The first trailer was perfect. I thought it would be a good one for people who haven't watched the movie. Then they made the second one and completely threw away the element of surprise.
Agreed. Chris. Hollywood now a days doesn't know how to market anything without spoiling it. That's why I watch only one trailer. Maybe two but it depends on the company like Fox. They have two Apes trailers out and not many big spoilers in them but Spider-Man was the entire movie.... Makes no sense.
I think my favorite trailer I ever saw of a movie that sticks out in my mind is the one for the first Pirates of the Caribbean film where all it was was the camera panning around an island with the names of the actors who were attached to the film. I left the theater really intrigued by it and was like this can mean only one of two things it's either going to be really good, or its going to be really bad. But I really enjoyed not knowing anything about the characters when I went and saw the movie and but ended up being one now my favorite movies of that year. To me I wish more trailers were like that. Quite personally I don't like being all hyped up by a trailer only to be let down later after I go and see a movie I had been dying to see for months.
yes, guardians of the galaxy is a brilliant example of a good trailer. I was entertained and it spoiled nothing for me. i agree with you, I avoid most of the movie trailers now because they basically summarize the movies and give away moments of the movies you can put it together.
The Avengers Age of Ultron Trailer spoiling the Hulkbuster armour was just the worst. Everyone knew that armour was going to be in the movie, spoiling it in the trailer was totally unnecessary.
cezar211091 it's one thing to read about it....it's totally another thing to actually SEE IT....you know what I mean? let's say we're discussing the first Avengers movie and I told you about the scene where Loki gets thrashed about like a rag doll by the Hulk and YOU HAVE TO SEE THAT SHIT MAN! THAT WAS TOTALLY FREAKING AWESOME. wouldn't you feel kinda let down if they showed that scene in the trailer before you get to watch it? I mean, when you watch the film, it was totally totally one of the best scene in the movie. I watched it and everyone in the theater went ape shit, including me. It would have totally spoiled such a scene if it was in the trailer.
Marty Blois The Hulkbuster isn't even the biggest thing they spoil in the trailers. By now you can pretty much guess most of the major plot points of the movie by watching the trailers. It's kinda ridiculous. And people are whining about the batman v superman trailer "because it doesn't show enough about the story". (I'm not trying to start another marvel vs DC fanboy flame war, I'll still watch age of ultron and probably still love it, but the trailers have shown far too much.)
I remember watching the trailer for transformers the last knight, and it showed Optimus Prime turning evil, and when I watched the movie I thought “this is everything that I called that would be in the movie.”
Completely agree. Nowadays the only good trailer is the very first one they release. It's usually brief and cryptic, which gets everyone pumped up. But then as it gets closer to theaters they reveal more and more and more.
I try hard as hell not to pay attention to previews anymore, for two reasons: Brave and REC. For Brave, I thought I was getting an incredible action-fantasy with a lone girl bamfing her way through a myriad of mythic beasts and warring factions...what I got was Rule 63 Brother Bear. For the latter, here's me in the theater, waiting for that one scene that *everyone* remembers, it's on the damn poster, and suddenly I realize "oh crap, thats the ending, isn't it...yep. Yep, it is. Fffffffuck."
Steven Ingram Right?? If they'd advertised it as a feel-good family sitcom people wouldn't feel so pissed. It's like buying a ticket to see Braveheart, only finding once you sit down you're being shown Freaky Friday!
What about the Matrix? People went to see that movie curios about what the Matrix was. The trailer was perfect in showing some great action without revealing the plot. You can show stuff from the third act without spoiling the movie. You could also reveal plot from the second act and spoil the movie.
Actually Webb said that certain lines in the trailer were recorded as per the marketing team's request. about 75% of the lines in the final trailer aren't in the movie.
reviews > trailers This is the case for movies AND games. At least video game trailers are sometimes nicely animated and an entertaining product of their own.
I actually try and avoid most trailers for this very reason. I like to take in the first teaser for a movie, then wait for it to come out. The movie going experience is too important to me... Sometimes, I catch a dud but I'm always engaged and curious
Remember before the internet? When you'd be in the theater watching previews when you found out they were making a new Batman movie by seeing the trailer? That used to be exciting as hell.
Right?
yup good ole days. one thing am bother about movies nowadays is the damn commercials in theaters now. come on i didn't pay to see commercials which i can see for free on T.V. i pay to see a trailer & a movie. commercial is the only thing that bothers me about theaters IDK maybe it's just me. lol.
dante bigguy True that, it seems like we only get three or four trailers but about twenty non-movie related commercials.
And when it comes to comedy's all the best jokes are in the trailer
Comedies, not comedy's

Why the fuck can't Hollywood just do TEASERS? No trailers that spoil anything. Every trailer should be VERY short and not contain ANY spoilers.
blakeesmith84 because teasers don't give you a idea of what sort of film, what genre it is.
For Spiderman 2 (original Doc Oc) they could've shown some shots with Peter and Mary Jane having fun, then moved to a scene with Oc attaching the suit to himself, end trailer
blakeesmith84 what's the difference between a trailer and a teaser? And why would teasers be better?
Masterful!
k
+Mitch henry he remembers it so you don't have to.
Not hyped.
XD
Spot on.
You are being unfair. Comparing a teaser trailer to the third trailer is stupid and doesn't make any sense. Remember how there was a teaser for BvS?
I hated that BvS trailer so fucking much. Like, it literally gave away the whole movie.
Glad I watched Cast Away without seeing the trailer first lol
+Kon-El Me 2
me too
me too
Its the first time I see the trailer and I'm really glad that I didnt see the trailer ^^
The first time I saw Castaway as a kid definitely a great movie but also lucky that I never seen a trailer of that movie when it first came out no TV spots nothing still I can't believe they had the guts to show key scenes of the movie especially the final shot wow.
suicide squad kept its villain hidden in all the trailers...showing joker as one of the major characters ..but we all know how the movie turned out
Is it true that a lot of shots from the trailer weren't in the movie?
joker throwing grenade scene was not in the movie.....diablo asking for water was not there...
sanjay pallur I hate trailers that show scenes that aren't in the movie almost as much as trailers that spoil.
Well I like Suicide Squad but it's a somewhat DOGSH*T piece of CRAP!
Amazing trailers that don't spoil the film or false advertise:
- The Dark Knight Rises
- Interstellar
- Kong: Skull Island
- Hunger Games: Catching Fire
- Dunkirk
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- Black Mass
- Insidious
You forgot Godzilla 2014. That has a really good trailer that does not spoil the movie. It is rather misleading though.
The Interstellar definitely took something from the movie. The first trailer built up this amazing idea of them pushing through the wormhole with no idea of what might be on the reverse...and then we see them on a water planet. For me it really killed the wonder of might lay beyond the horizon.
- Avengers : Infinity War
Yeah, it didn't really tell us what we already knew, but it got us hyped as h*ll!
My mouth started watering when he said Christopher Nolan, JJ.Abrams, and Steven Spielberg.
+Tom Jenkins Yep these are directors that know how to keep their spoilers a secret thank god!!!!
And there one of my favorite directors working today
+Alejandro Gonzalez Except for those Force Awakens haters **cough** **cough****retches**
According to what the video told us:
Best trailer of the year: Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Worst trailer of the year: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice
Exactly.
+Paral1ax Hmm I was kinda thinking the same thing. However, we can't really say how bad the BvS trailer is until the movie actually comes out..
Mad Max trailers were also good. What's the story?
WHO CARES! CARS!
+Paral1ax yep
Movie trailers kind suck because they give away way too much.
Gumball even mentioned this in an episode of The amazing world of Gumball. Don't remember which one but it happened.
Yeah no shit
That’s why I don’t watch movie trailers anymore.
...
Agreed, also it was a beautiful movie that was worth the wait
Jackson DeStefano,
Yes, loved it, and just like the trailer, the movie keeps you guessing as to what was really going on. There needs to be a public outcry about studios allowing there movies to be spoiled by trailers.
It came up when I was seeing Civil War, a while ago, and even though I was not into that kind of film I had to tell myself "damn that's some good stuff"
This is why I never watch trailers for movies I want to see. Because companies suck at making trailers (most of the time)
If I adopted that practice, I'd end up wasting time and money on movies like Batman v Superman. At least that trailer told me I will be disappointed in the film, the same way Jurassic World did.
+Won Ton But if Steven Spielberg or Christopher Nolan or J.J. Abrams are directing them you can watch the trailer because they don't spoil anything
+Won Ton Well at least certain directors and studios know how to keep secrets like Disney and Lucasfilm along with Steven Spielberg J.J. Abrams and Christopher Nolan
the captain america civil war trailer that revealed spiderman shouldn't have been made should have kept spiderman a surprise in movie reveal.
Yes! I thought I was the only one who prefered being suprised during the movie
That would've been cool
Preston Davis superhero movies are all about hype and nostalgia, people watch them for superheroes not for how good a movie they'll be.
fatsamcastle true i agree but think of how much more hype they could have gotten by just eluding to a character rather than out right showing said character.
Interstellar and Star Wars teaser trailers are the way to go: intriguing and spoiler-free.
orestisDisturbed Exactly.
Watch the trailer for Robin Hood; men in tights.
Only like half a second of it is in the actual movie.
orestisDisturbed Though to be fair ... All Star Wars needs as a trailer to intrigue is the STAR WARS logo shown one minute while John Williams is playing, and a billion dollar box office is guaranteed ^^ But you are right, and I think trailers are an art-form in themselves if done right, sadly most are ...*sigh*...
talk about trailer false advertising.. *cough suicide squad...
not much joker... =_=
leonartha03 that's because even less people would have bothered to go if they knew there was no joker.
leonartha03 joker sucked anyway so thank fuck he was hardly in it
It would have been a much better movie with Joker as the villain.
Jeremy Reid I initially thought it was going to be his twin.
The joke is you spoiled the first film.
...I get it.
Wouldn't it be... well.. less weird if you just went to the bathroom?
SuperTortilhaDeMorango I have visited Brasil and dated a Brasilian woman for a few years. I love the country.
digitalblasphemy1100 Yeah, here is a pretty damn nice country, and the woman here are gorgeus!
The trailer made the movie looke like a jaded sci-fi bore, when in fact, it was everything but that
Are Trailers Ruining Movies? ISN'T THAT THE QUESTION OF THE DAY
This comment just literally makes me laugh! :))
At least that line is being used somewhere.
Thanks, that needs to be said. Only good trailer lately was Godzilla. The others spoil the movies.
Indeed. And on top of that, it was a great freaking movie.
Luis Martinep The acting wasn't shitty, the dialogue was just dole. The actors were working very well with what they had though.
well,Edge of tomorrow seems to have a good trailer too...you never see the aliens,if there are any.
Luis Martinep Yes, I mean the Godzilla movie.
Pretty much every Nolan movie has an incredible trailer. The Dark Knight, Inception and Tenet are some of my favourite trailers ever... 1917 and Walter Mitty as well had great trailers. The MCU, however, has kinda been ruining its films through trailers for years.
The trailer of the new mcu movies/shows don't reveal much
Idk. Infinity War and Endgame are some of the best trailers I’ve seen.
I agree. I like to watch trailers but in marvel..i know the whole damn movie before it even comes out.
The Winter Soldier was pretty safe as far as trailers go though. No spoilers in there or big things in there besides a few action bits
Maybe, just maybe, there's a pattern here. Not entirely sure. /s
I've trained myself to not watch Terminator trailers. It doesn't really matter because all the ones after 2 suck.
I think the T-800 being revealed as the hero in T2 is the perfect thing to end the trailer with. It's the hook.
What did you think of that new one? 😬
A good example for not spoiling much is the new trailers for the Godzilla movie that comes out 5/16/2014
Unfortunately they've released tones of clips from the movie revealing key plot points and even a clip from possibly the final fight between Godzilla and the flying creature (sorry I can't remember it's name)
I haven't watch any of those cause apparently they show you like really good shots of Godzilla so im guessing in a way they do spoil you some interesting shots, but correct me if im wrong cause i haven't watch them, specifically cause i wanna see the full look of the monster once the movie comes out
Yeah, I said not "spoiling much" ^.^. I regret seeing the last trailer tho :/. When it comes out it's an Imax 3D for me :)
I have tried with all my heart not to be spoiled by the clips flying in front of my face when I watch youtube... but still.. I now know what the creature looks like. Even that japan thinks it's too fat. Bah... staying spoiler free is nearly impossible in this environment.
Godzilla roars like Chewbacca at the end of the trailer.
Trailers should be at most one minute long. They are supposed to tease the viewer, not show the entire film in a short summary.
Back in the 90s I would usually suggest people watch the trailers. Nowadays I specifically tell people to make sure and NOT watch the trailers.
Brandon P come on, 90's trailers were pretty bad too though

madd ace I haven't seen Age of Ultron but Iron Man was filled with plot holes and suffers from what I call "the 10 minutes syndrome" - an otherwise decent movie gets obliterated by the last 10 minutes because of how bad they are.
Both iron man 3 and age of ultron were not good
Observer Alternative Just because they didn't suit you doesn't mean they weren't good, see how much they made at the BoxOffice then comeback to talk
I didn't see that trailer though so it was a big ass surprise for me
Another problem with movie trailers is that they ALL HAVE THE SAME CLICHÉS! The top 3 worst clichés are:
Try guardian of the galaxy :D
You're really complaining about the way they cut to different shots. Sorry but that doesn't ruin a trailer for me.
Solarstar10 It's actually something a lot of people are complaining about. I can't express how annoying it is how the entire theatre turns dark every second of a trailer. Watch AVGN's top 10 worst movie clichés for a better explanation on why this needs to stop.
Tommaso Genovesi Guardians of the Galaxy had an awesome trailer :-D
4. They always end on some really cheesy joke and or one-liner, pretty much no matter what kind of tone the film ends up having
The latest Star Wars trailers had me at the edge of my seat, they were so amazing, and didn't spoil anything. Heart racing man.
+Ray Cocker I agree!!!! :)
Sooo... Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Boba Fett Looking forward to that movie. Think it's gonna be pretty good.
George Daugherty i really hope its good too, but i feel like they should have kept some things out of the trailer
Is he gonna die?!"
But no. It was a freaking dream sequence *near the beginning of the movie*. I was so disappointed in seeing that scene that it almost completely killed the movie for me.
at least they didn't just give away the plot
uknownada turns out it was a foreshadow to infinity war
But it was in the movie
@@joesycamore2899 It doesn't matter if it's in the movie, it shouldn't be in the movie if it's just a dream sequence.
Harry - this entire scene isn't in the film.
Peter - why?
Harry - isn't that the question of the day.
XD
Chris Stuckmann The new Terminator Genesys trailer is filled with spoilers!
Raul Mejia Not only just spoilers. The trailer basically does a summary of the entire plot.
Yes! I thought I was going mad watching it!!
Raul Mejia It's just gonna be another terrible cash grab anyway. The Terminator movies should have ended at 2. judgement day averted, there was no need for continuation with those last few horrible abominations, but MONEY!!!!!
staynifty The problem is, it is impossible to avert Judgment Day.
GZUS96 Unless you believe in the idea of split timelines.
*cough* *cough* Batman v Superman *cough* *cough*
+Avi Kid I still liked that trailer. Don't know why some people didn't like it. I mean, sure, it gave some plot points away and maybe even the whole movie, but I don't see why people are so bothered about being spoiled.
George Daugherty coz some ppl want to experience the movie in full and be surprised. Im still gonna see the movie, Theyre 2 of my favourite charactrs.
Avi Kid Yeah, I guess...
But still, we don't really know for sure that they still have something up their sleeve in this movie.
This is exactly what happened to the 2017 Power Rangers trailer.
I say a movie needs two or three good trailers: a one minute teaser to get the tone across; a one and a half minute second one to show a bit more action; one last trailer about two minutes long to set up some of the plot and show a bit more action and then leave it at that.
Or just go watch the film?
+Lianna TH-cam So zero marketing, just magically know about the film and go watch it?
I guess Star Wars fits into that category perfectly
Vian Muhammad Abdullah I suppose it does
+Vian Muhammad Abdullah It does, but there may have been a serious spoiler in there. Avoid the comments section on that trailer if you don't want to know. If I saw what I think I did, I will be furious with JJ, even if the film is great.
Edit: I did not see what I thought I did, although they still committed an unholy sin in that trailer.
Batman v Superman Doomsday trailer...took all the hype from the film
JustinianXLIII exactly zack always releases to many trailers man of steel had 3 trailers of 4 minutes I didn't watch them than god only one the shortest one. Justice league had like 5 trailers too.
CHESCOchannel Zach isent the brightest candle on the cake
I've been complaining about trailers for years
It's like the Godzilla 2014 movie.
Carl Bryant You sir couldn't be more right.
***** Thank yah
Godzilla (2014)
SPOILERS
90% of the trailer is Bryan Cranston, yet he dies, 20 minutes into the film.
The rest is Godzilla, who only shows up in the last 10 minutes of the movie.
Inglorious Bastards
SPOILERS
The trailer is just Brad Pitt Hunting Nazis and scalping them.
All right
Thanks for the tip
Makes sense
Doesn't work if you're force fed trailers when going to the movies
@@saibgassanov3378 I think there's a big difference between watching a trailer once at theaters and watching it endlessly at home. We rewatch trailers at home so many times that we eventually sell ourselves what the movie should be.
I've started watching only the main trailers and no TV spots. I don't want too much footage before going into the movie. I use Twitter so sometimes I see clips of TV spots but I try to limit my exposure to them as much as possible.
Anyone else think the video froze at 7:49?
I can't say for sure, but I suspect the new "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" trailer gave away pretty much the entire movie beat for beat. After some amazing teaser and trailers that got me really pumped for the movie they released one that was just.... "What! Did I just see five major plot events!?"
They are lucky I love Serkis because the trailer almost took away all my curiosity for the movie.
The bvs trailer ruined the movie cause it showed everything
Not only do they show that he makes it off the island, but they actually suggest that the movie is about his transition afterwards. It suggests that he gets off in the first act and most the movie is the parts glanced at in the ending.
godzilla: A prime example of a movie that was falsely advertised.
***** it portrayed bryan cranston as the main character, godzilla as a villain/force of nature, tried to hide the actual main character, and used clips that were not even in the movie.
+trisdino It wasn't falsely advertised. It was masterfully advertised. It was Legendary Pictures reply to Sony with The Amazing SpiderMan 2
Brady Pomeroy and those two are mutually exclusive? You are right, it was great advertisement, I was pumped to see the movie. Sadly, they never made that movie.
just about to comment that :P
Godzilla was the biggest disappointment of this year in my opinion. The trailers made it look so good, but in actual fact what we got was 2 acts of boring cliche dialogue.
At 6:44 when he's talking about Harry and Peter I thought for a moment he was talking about The Prisoner of Azkaban.
So did I!
same. lol
Amber Shoffren how if he's talking about the amazing spider man 2
because they are characters named that in that movie too
Alejandro Gonzalez I wasn't concentrating on what he was saying.
That same sort of thing happened on the original Planet of the Apes VHS box! I hate that.
I also hate it when in the dvd menu they start showing scenes from the movie that kind of ruin it too.
Leech Miller To be fair, the trailer for Terminator Salvation ruined that part too.
Trailers aren't ruining movies. Movies are ruining movies.
suicide squad is a perfect example of this...they cut a ton of joker scenes out that they sold us in commercials to get our butts in the seats cuz lets face it joker sells more than deadshot and boomerang. and the fact that wb had the people who made the bohemian rhapsody trailer CUT THE FUCKIN FINAL MOVIE CUZ PPL LOVED THE TRAILER SO MUCH....awful. god awful. i guarantee you, enchantress n all, sucide squad originally had a pretty dope cut, but we were presented with a hot mess bc of the success of the trailer. fuck trailers. trailers need to be like the shining. just a 30 second shot of blood pouring down a hallway. its visually stunning, and overall intriguing, yet gives ZERO away. lastly, even w the hot mess cut that was suicide squad...had we just watched that movie and all those amazing characters with batman sprinkled in on the side for the first time WITHOUT A TRAILER LIKE BOHEMIAN? we'd be happy campers. but we all see the best scenes of these movies over and over again due to the trailers showing you the best of what the movie offers. we need to turn more of a blind eye i suppose cuz i don't see it stopping anytime soon.
Honestly even David Ayer is pissed at this but what can you do. WB is the result of bad disappointments.
man of steel was crap , i had headaches during that movie , so many blur in 3d , and why the fuck do hollywood thinks that destroying an entire city is cool to watch , we are not in the 90's anymore , effin tired of seeing everything explode . Batman saved dawn of justice , cause once again , superman was crap , they need to revised his powers .
lilsabin man of steel wasn't crap and watching buildings being destroyed is fun to watch and plus it's superman he's a superhero buildings will be destroyed
I wish you could speak in front of Hollywood representatives to teach them what filmmaking is really about
I honestly have to give props to the Russo Bro's etc. for the way their trailer was shot for the 'Civil War' movie.
Im not a big star wars fan but, i think that the trailer for star wars the force awakens is one of the best trailers ever made!
It was a very good teaser!
It had a very "star wars" feel to it.
Lelou Olegario yeah but i just watched it recently (?)
Fabio Vecchionacce The best trailer I have seen so far is Alien. Really it just left me breathless even though I have already watched the movie prior. The trailer will provoke your imagination as to what the fuck is going on because it revealed nothing as any trailer should do.
Yep gives you stuff but not everything well put together
Your reviews are so spot on, so glad I subscribed. Two thumbs way up.
2nd that!
We should really get a bunch of critics together to make a movie.
What about A Million Ways to Die in the West? That trailer showed every funny part of that movie, and then there was nothing to enjoy when you actually see it.
I think with that movie they just got desperate because they knew they had a turd on their hands.
McSuperfly101 Ha! Perfect!
C Delany There were funny parts of that movie?
James Dimmick The trailer was a compilation of the only funny parts of the movie.
+C Delany He states just what you said. How sometimes trailers can portray a movie one way and when you go to see it, it is totally different than what you thought....Listen much?
Batman v Superman is the biggest offender of this... crime.
The last duel trailer spoils absolutely everything about the film. I'm so happy that I watched the movie before seeing the trailer. I came here afterwards to went anger towards spoiling trailers.
A revisit of this idea for today's films would be very interesting Chris ^^
Still haven't seen The Force Awakens trailer. We're going in completely fresh to that movie. The one thing we can't escape is the random still image attached to story headlines and the "Crazy Fan theory for Episode 7!!! Luke is a....(blah blah blah)" Just have to stop reading those sentences before we get to the end. So far so good.
The force awakens trailer spoils nothing unless you are a crazy speculator
haha. I'm sure it is! For us though it's not really about possible spoilers. It's about going into the movie completely fresh, not having seen a single shot. It's pretty awesome.
+GnarlyTooth I tip my hat to you, if you made it completely fresh.
Some examples of trailers that I can think of that gave too much away:
The Angry Birds Movie
Terminator Genisys
Sausage Party
Batman v Superman
Sausage Partyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :D
also the trailers that gave away too much.
*Jackass the Movie: Bad Grandpa* God, WHY?
chris can you please explain why each movie or big blockbusters has three trailers? When i was kid you only needed one trailer to advertise your movie...

Like Seriously.
... I agree.
Slugmind Tobey Maguire Spider Man makes more since and it's not bullshit like The Amazing Spider Man
***** Yeah. It's just not as good as the old ones.
That's why Raimi's Spiderman has a more power-fantasy-comic-feel-like- when we see Peter become a superhero...that was totally ruined with Spiderman 3.
excuse my english.
tomstonemale I see awesome point of view and a good way of explaining man didn't think of it that way lol.
Same with Babadook. It is a phenomenal movie. But I went there thinking it is a supernatural horror movie with jumpscares. So, I was disappointed first when I found out the movie was more about psychological horror.
But when I was able to get past my Initial expectation, I was able to enjoy that movie.
Wait, I heard Braveheart theme in that trailer...
exactly
why doesn't Hollywood just let the Director do the Trailers, why spend $ on yet another service
She said she read the book…..Maybe she didn't want to take the time to write the whole title? Can you please calm down? Dakota Mace
Agreed.
Everyone knew that armour was going to be in the movie, spoiling it in the trailer was totally unnecessary.
as the other guy said, how would that be a spoiler if everyone expected it to be in the movie?
cezar211091 it's one thing to read about it....it's totally another thing to actually SEE IT....you know what I mean? let's say we're discussing the first Avengers movie and I told you about the scene where Loki gets thrashed about like a rag doll by the Hulk and YOU HAVE TO SEE THAT SHIT MAN!
Or the fact that at first, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are at Ultron's side.
BTW guys i think OP meant that because of the trailer most people knew about the Hulkbuster
I remember watching the trailer for transformers the last knight, and it showed Optimus Prime turning evil, and when I watched the movie I thought “this is everything that I called that would be in the movie.”
Chrisy, for your next feature video do one on how you review and score a movie
Completely agree. Nowadays the only good trailer is the very first one they release. It's usually brief and cryptic, which gets everyone pumped up. But then as it gets closer to theaters they reveal more and more and more.
Dont ever watch trailers, for one simply reason: They ruin the movies. I don't dare to risk it.
The Interstellar trailer was one of the best trailers ever made in history.
Totally agree on Brave. For all I know it's a pretty good movie, but I was just so blindsided by how not-the-movie-from-the-trailer it was.
Steven Ingram Right?? If they'd advertised it as a feel-good family sitcom people wouldn't feel so pissed. It's like buying a ticket to see Braveheart, only finding once you sit down you're being shown Freaky Friday!
"Where do you start?"
Not at the end of the Movie
If I were a director I would personally ask the people in charge of marketing to not show anything from the third act/latter half of the movie
What about the Matrix? People went to see that movie curios about what the Matrix was. The trailer was perfect in showing some great action without revealing the plot. You can show stuff from the third act without spoiling the movie. You could also reveal plot from the second act and spoil the movie.
they probably do that already, they're just powerless employees.
Actually Webb said that certain lines in the trailer were recorded as per the marketing team's request.
about 75% of the lines in the final trailer aren't in the movie.
Thanks for the info. And that is ridiculous.
I don’t watch trailers. It’s better to read a short quick synopsis of the movie’s premise and go to the movie if interested.
I'm so glad I didn't see the trailer for Cast Away before I actually saw the movie.
Whoever handle's Christopher Nolan's trailers, give that man a cookie. His trailers don't give away much which makes the movie amazing!
Damn right. That man is a legend.
2:11 That's the music from Braveheart, directed by Mel Gibson.
Most movies now days have 3 trailers. One is enough
reviews > trailers
This is the case for movies AND games.
Batman V Superman
not fair to judge till it comes out
It's very fair.
God that trailer... i wish it didnt exist
+TeleBlur yep
+Jacob Feldkamp The trailer is why I didn't see Batman v. Superman in theaters
