I have had a total of 7 injections over the past 6 years. The one I had in 2017 lasted until a few weeks ago so I went for another one today. I also go to my chiropractor every 2 weeks. The worst my pain has ever gotten was in 2017 when I could not walk for 6 days, I had to literally crawl to the bathroom. People how have never lived with pain like this don’t understand what it does to you mentally. I have given induced birth with no pain meds and let me tell you giving birth was a cake walk compared to my back pain. All I can say is the injections have given me most of my life back and I am very happy about that

Man here so never given birth lol but I agree. I have a bulging disc pinching a nerve in my low back and OMG it's the worst pain ever. I've literally had to drag myself up the stairs at night after any sort of walking or physical activity. It's killing my spirit. I am very physically active and I haven't been able to lift weights or go to jiu jitsu. I have an epidural scheduled for the 21st of this month. Praying it helps.

I definitely know the pain you're talking about. I have a lot of pain that radiates from my lumber region also in the low sacrum area. My legs are gone!!! I haven't been able to walk in 8 months. Can't seem to lift my legs. I also have really bad neck pain that radiates into my arms and hands. I just had my 3rd spine injection two were in the L5 and the last one was in the sacrum area and I've had no relief from any of the injections.

Doing basic things like walking I'm ok with so far. Getting in and out of bed no problem. But I'm also a Athletic person. So I'm waiting to build my strength up and try a slow run. Praying i do and have no pain from it. But most definitely it will help with pain. You just need to be patient and get to see a professional and have this done. If you need anymore information. My doctor is trying to figure out the best treatment plan because I have worsening arthritis pain in my lower spine, along with multiple herniated desks, and chronic pelvic pain. I had this recommended and reluctantly took shot 2 months ago for pain from a herniated L5-S1 . Procedure went fine, no pain.. 3 days after and since I've had all of the gnarly symptoms related to sciatica. I had zero sciatica symptoms prior. The feelings have overshadowed the original pain from the herniation. The doc said it wouldnt fix anything but may make space for some healing while I did P.T., she did not tell me anything about adverse affects. I am not trying to discourage anyone, I just wish I had listened to my gut and not taken something questionable that wasn't even f@#$ing necessary.
I would trade these feelings for my worst back pain in an instant. Best of luck to all looking for relief and find yourself a GOOD doctor that explains procedures and their risks.

My first doctor who came highly recommended blew me off because of my age. I literally spent $5,000 on a trip to Florida for me and my wife and had to cancel because I blew my back out and couldn’t even walk. You tell doctors that and they just say take some ibuprofen you’ll be fine. Anyway hopefully this procedure works at least temporarily so I can return to everyday life.

Did you all know that Epidural Steroid Injections (ESI's) for back pain are not approved by the FDA?... and did you know that because of their unproven Safety and Efficacy record, ESI's are not approved by any Health Authority anywhere on the planet?... and did you know that an independent FDA advisory panel back in 2014 voted 15 to 7 to have ESI's banned because of serious medical event reports including death?... but the FDA said "NO" anyway! Did you also know that one year earlier in 2013 Pfizer had asked the FDA to ban their steroid Depo-Medrol (Methylprednisolone Acetate) for ESI's at all levels of the spine for the same safety reasons and yet again the FDA said "NO" because of Stock Market fears? Be smart, stay informed... a message from the EDNC.

I had mine 8 days ago. Needles don't bother me and didn't that day. When the steroid was injected tho it felt like my leg (the one that had been hurting so bad) was on fire from the inside. It was a horrible pain. I wrapped my arms around the table clinching it and just dealt with it because I knew I needed to be still. They used no sedation. Afterwards the Dr sat me up really quick to show me the images on the computer screen. I felt like I was in shock. I've had 3 c-sections (where I could feel some of the pain) and a tracheal resection which is a huge surgery so I don't think my pain was just from me being a wimp. I told my family I would never do that again. Then the nurse came in and told me I could leave. I drove myself home, they knew this as I had asked if I needed someone to come drive me and they said no. All that being said, the pain is 99% gone at this moment so now I know I did the right thing. I'm still trying to learn how to walk correctly as I had been walking slumped over with one leg sideways for several months. Now I just hope this took care of the problem for good. I really wish I had an answer for why it burned so horribly as the steroid was injected. The Dr acted like it was abnormal but gave me no explanation why I had the burning sensation.

It's mainly my right leg that hurts, very rarely does my back hurt. I bought an inversion table and I believe that's what has kept me from needing to get another epidural, I really don't want to do that again. I've recently been put on Gabapentin and that seems to help some too. I hope one day to be pain free but I'm going on a year of pain now so I'm not too sure about that. Worst experience ever for me and i will never ever take another epidural in my life. I had massive headaches that i couldn't stand up i had to be layed in my bed for over a week. @@andyl9900 Epidurals rarely lead to CSF leaks (5 in 100,000 patients). My advice is when you're looking around at doctors to manage your pain, ask them about the risks and what the process is if something bad like a leak occurs. If they dismiss it, don't continue seeing them. If they say they'll be available immediately to fix it if it occurs, then trust your doctor. Do your research of course for any physician you see and trust your gut. If you do go the surgery route, ask your surgeon about artificial discs before fusion. Ask them if you're qualified for an articial disc, and of course, consult with multiple surgeons before trusting just one.... I've been dealing with my back issues since Aug 2020 and it's always taken me a few doctors to find one that I trust and that isn't a narcissistic ass. Needle going in caused caused so much pain shooting right through whole length of sciatic nerve. But that resolved quickly and I was pain free for 3 months. But when injection wore off BOTH feet and legs became instruments of constant neuropathic pain and walking became impossible. No answer from surgeon, neurologist, pain management docs, massage, rest, exercise and stretches, icing, Icy Hot, and I don’t have diabetes or had treatment for cancer. I’m now 2 1/2 months post surgery (which I was hoping would resolve neuropathic pain) and 9 months post injections. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Had mine two days ago. Went really well without sedation. L3/L4 & L4/L5. Procedure took 15-20 minutes. A bit of pain up to 4-6 hours afterwards, minor numbness down my leg for the evening and overnight. Second morning, awoke with hip and leg pain, but back felt good. Once up and around, hip and leg pain subsides. Primary reason is for sciatica relief especially when driving or sitting for extended period of time. Cannot drive more than 1/2 hour in car without crushing pain and discomfort down back of leg and around to groin area. Hope this procedure provides relief. Not sure the many critical comments about this procedure are warranted as long as you are not getting it done by a quack. Real test will be next week (about 7 days after procedure) when I drive to my son’s house 1 hr. away. Was apprehensive and nervous about procedure, but now having done it, I will do a second or third injection if condition warrants without fear.

@@venztower939 Follow-up: Back injection seemed to help with pain. Went from about a 6/7 down to 2/3, but has returned ?to before injection pain levels 3 months later. In the interrum, have had a steroid hip injection as well since a subsequent MRI shows a labral tear and hamstring tendonopothy causing my pain and discomfort while driving. Doctor thinks they may be two seperate issues. Rather than do repeat steroid injections, we are moving on to radiofrequency denervation where they burn the nerves causing the pain. The nerves will most likely grow back but this procedure may well provide 1-2 years of relief without subjecting me to multiple steroid injections every 3 months. Will treat leg and hamstring problem afterwards as seperate medical issue. Fix one thing at a time.

I would like to know why you don’t discuss that these are not FDA approved for use in spine. The product packaging says not to be se in spinal area. It has caused adhesive Aracnoiditis in hundreds, of not 1000’s of people, it degenerates you bones faster, has caused paralysis and death as well. It only works in a very low percentage of patients 20-30% yet we are all being pushed into doing this dangerous procedure! How are Epidural Injections used to relieve pain? Epidural Injections are a very common treatment to help patients with back pain, sciatica or radicular pain. This may feel like pain coming from your back and shooting down your leg.
Dr. Nikesh Seth, managing partner at Integrated Pain Consultants, talks about what an Epidural Injection is all about. An Epidural Injection is when a specific type of needle is placed into the epidural space in the spine. The Epidural space holds many nerves that leave the spine and go down your leg.

There are 3 ways to tackle this, injections which lasts some time and consecutive injections live shorter, operation which can last as long as injections or even longer but the pain will come again eventually due to instability created by operation and last is just living a strictly healthy and antiinflammatory life with sun with moderate exercises. And with the last one you can delay this more but yes it can hit again.
This is the dilemma of the patient. Once the homeostasis is gone and with age it goes away, there is not much to do as far as i can see. One can ask if the other is still painfree and correlates with his/her state but unfortunately our bodies are unique and an orthopedics intervention cannot do much. There is no single bullet to take away joint/muscle/nerve pain.
My comment is not really relevant for autoimmune people. They have a different context.

One thing you didn't mention:. I've had this procedure 3X. After each one my brain became completely confused. I typically experienced chronic pain about 20yrs. After the injection, I couldn't find any pain anywhere. While this sounds great; my brain still flipped out about not being able to locate any of it; even though I knew on some level, it was obviously the steroid doing it's trick.
Just couldn't wrapy head around it. It was last one just the opposite direction for being hit in the back by a hammer & I just don't know how to describe that. Still grateful however. Even if it means moving into my 4th back surgery that are really brutal as hell, very neutral. Pray for me!

If anything you need to see what’s going on, a steroid shot will not fix your problem trust me. If anythjng f you even researched it’s quite dangerous if the doctor isn’t competent enough and misses the spot your life is over.

It truly wasn’t as bad as I anticipated. Was it highly uncomfortable due to lying on my stomach and getting shots? Sure, but the actual procedure was okay. I did experience some burning in my left leg, but I just dealt with it and it was over soon. I did see stars for a few seconds, but that also wore off. This morning my pain level in my back has decreased enough that it’s noticeable. My injection site is very sore though, but that was to be expected. I’d say all in all- so far so good.

Take them you need them take them as prescribed and no more than you are prescribed. You will be tempted to take more because of the relief that you will feel. Most people who are in horrible condition and horrible pain can’t get a dr. To write them a fda approved pain medication because of “opiate” epidemic. They used to over write pain medication and when it became a problem instead of taking the correct measurements to curb the problem they did a full 180 and they ripped people who were living a better quality of life with their pain medication and turned them to the street to find another way to get relief. Now you go to the dr. In pain and they write you psych medication that’s not appropriate for pain management. Take the pills and be smart. Be grateful for the fact that you have a dr. That is giving you a valid pain reliever for your pain. Others are are killing their liver with ibuprofen, others putting their actual life at risk during this exact procedure to get any kind of relief. The pills are way safer and will help you immensely.

Btw I am a recovered heroin addict and I know how hard it is to get off of medication that you don’t need but just because they say it’s non addictive doesn’t mean it is. I’m more physically dependent on a mood stabilizer I was incorrectly diagnosed with a mood disorder and I actually have adhd and am on the right medication now but I go three days with a non narcotic non addictive medication and I am sick as a dog with horrible symptoms from withdrawals.. fancy that but they don’t tell you that. Everyone is different and if you’re in pain then take the correct medication correctly and you won’t have a problem. You think the person who responded about going into surgery but being clean isn’t going to get a morphine iv drip is a fucking liar and the black white mentality is hurting people who need help. SMH.

I started with a horrible sciatic pinched nerve due to bulged discs on my lower back till 1 day I couldn't walk any more. I went to see a specialist he was gonna cut me open and shave the nerve or I could choose the epidural. A day before I came across a chiropractor who after 6 months fixed me up. • @meghancomo96
      @meghancomo96 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@Doris Dickson you’re absolutely incorrect. As a cardiac patient myself, high blood pressure and high heart rate 100% cause PHYSICAL anxiety. It’s not mental anxiety they’re talking about (obviously.) steroids and NSAIDS elevate heart rate and blood pressure and when that happens it causes physical anxiety. Your comments are incredibly out of line, ill informed, and dismissive to the people who suffer from the very real physical anxiety that comes along with having heart problems or from developing cardiac symptoms from certain medications. Just because your husband didn’t get paperwork that disclosed this doesn’t mean it isn’t true, and don’t you dare sit there and spew fallacy’s.
