I had a L4 L5 discectomy 4 days ago, as soon as I came around from surgery the pain was gone. This is the 2nd time I have had this procedure but on a different disc each time. I highly recommend people have this if you are suffering, the pain is gone and other than a little surgical soreness I am pain free.
@Daniel Tate Hey Daniel, yes I think that is what caused my back to go as I used to love the gym nowadays I couldn’t think of anywhere worse to go. It was a couple of years between surgeries and the first time was the disc below the L4-L5 that went. So seems mine were the other way round. Very common procedure and issue for people with bad backs.
@@richardc1983 I'm 10 months in of back pain. I found out I have a disc buldge at L5 s1 I've tried physical therapy, chiropractor, decompression exercises, deep tissue massages, medicine, etc nothing helps. I'm scheduled tommorrow for a steroid injection. My doc said if it helps with the pain surgery will help the pain go away. I have back pain on my left side when I sit not when I walk or stand. Has your pain went all the way away after surgery?
@@freestylebully4849 hey, pain complelty gone after surgery other than the surgical pain. No pain at all now. Always worth having the surgery it's the only thing that worked for me. I had the steroid injection too long before surgery it worked a little bit but not for long.
I just got home today from L4L5 micro discectomy surgery. I feel amazing! It’s the first time in months that I don’t feel any pain from my left glute to left ankle. I was in pain 24/7. I now am just resting today. I do feel a little soreness near the incision. I’m optimistic that I’m on the path to real healing.
Thanks mate. Having the op.in 2 weeks and scared. I definitely need a new bed though as I can imagine trying to get out of a soft bed. Bless you amd speedy recovery. Can't wait to feel pain free again.
I’m having the exact same symptoms on day 2 after my surgery. The soreness is unreal, it feels like my back went thru a marathon and 12 rounds in the ring. Glad you made this video man!
Appreciate your videos. I had L4 L5 Laminectomy 49 years ago. Now, at 66, I can barely walk. Just sitting yesterday to write bills ect I cannot move today. I limp. Pain level 7+. Nothing I take helps. I will have surgery Sept 21.Right L3-4 Hemilaminectomy & L4-5 Laminectomy & Discectomy. My bones are pressing against the nerve. I had been getting shots into the nerve, but did not help since 2021. I have had enough. I know the healing process will be long & hard. But, I had a right total knee replacement 2 years ago. The thing that healed me quickly was to do the exercizes. I had P.T. at home. I know I will feel much better after a few months. Not being able to walk, do housework, cook, fold laundry has been so frustrating! I used a cane now for a year. I pray you feel better soon. Love from Fla.
I have an idea as to how you feel. I've had a herniation pressing on the L3 L4 and have been basically unable to walk for the past (6) months. Got a microdischetomy yesterday and I'm now able to walk without pain. I hope that you are doing well. All the best!
Had microdiscectomy done on the L4 L5 2 days ago along with an interspinous spacer fixation done on my L5 S1. Not gonna lie, when the morphine wore off I realized the kind of surgery this was. Pray who ever sees this, do it, it helps a lot. Don’t be afraid to heal after, it’ll come
Helping me so much. I have my disceptomy booked for 13 days from now, I can barely sleep, constant pain from 5 6 7 8 level. Your story is so very similar to mine, consider myself an ameture athlete who's always been competitive in the gym. Pushed through constant back problems for so long because I couldn't bare not training and competing. Now at the point I can barely walk, it feels like im getting smashed on the foot with a hammer. I was really nervous and had no idea what to expect, but this has eased my mind immensely and I now see a light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks champion!
I feel your pain .I’ve just come home from hospital I had L5 s1 massive disc herniation . I feel like I’ve been hit by a train. I’m so pleased you’ve posted as I had a few questions that needed answering 👍🏻. Good luck in your recovery keep posting as it helps so much with hints and tips and not being the only one going through this shit show 😩.
I was one of first in my area to get one is 2005 on L4/ L5 and 19 year later I have zero pain or aches . Back to work in a month and playing softball in 3 months . Best decision of my life
Good on you for documenting the process of recovery. The hardest part of it all. I know this will help many! Great information! I wish I had done the same after all my surgeries. Keep it up!!
We were told NO sitting up straight like you’re doing for at least 2 weeks! It puts too much pressure on your discs. Either recline, or lay down or walk but no sitting straight up. Hope this helps you!!
I had my second discectomy June 2nd of this year my first was in 2018. I’m still in agonizing pain in my lower back and my left leg😮💨. I’m really feeling hopeless and praying it gets better from here.🙏🏽💙💙💙
The pain can really get less, don't lose hope! I had surgery about 3 weeks ago and my doctor said everyone has a different recovery process. It also depends on how long the nerve was compressed before the operation. Also whether there were sequestrations (pieces of intervertebral disc) I myself occasionally have a less good day, but it is getting better over all. I hope you are doing a little better each week. 🙏
@@ginmock1133 well to be honest it's still not 100%. My op was Aug 4th '19 and I still have bad days. Today for example I'm getting some sharp pains when I move a certain way while I'm holding something fairly light in my left hand. The worrying thing is the pain is shooting from my back to my buttock on the left side where my previous issue was with nerve damage down the right side. I just hope I haven't been over compensating to much, using 1 side more and doing some damage to that. I wished they had just fused my spine instead of just removing the disc material
Thank you for your experience. I had gone through with my discectomy for my L4 L5 disk herniation two days ago, so I am at that 48 hour point as well. During surgery, my doctor had found there was also a cyst in my joint that was adding additional pressure to my nerve along with my herniation. He had also told me that the outer coating of my nerve was rubbed down and had grafted pig skin to repair it. I have not taken any of the pain medication that was prescribed to me just because I feel it will give me too much confidence to push myself too far. Other than the nausea, my physical symptoms are similar to yours. I had walked a total of 2.5 miles yesterday outside and another 2 miles today so far. I had noticed walking increases to blood flow in my back and makes the pain less significant. I am excited to see how the recovery continues. As of now, my biggest struggle is preventing myself from doing too much.
@@porkchop7268 I feel great now. My mobility is back and I no longer have pain. My QL still gets tight and inflamed if I’m sitting for a prolonged time, like a car trip. If I remember right, I think it took about a month or two after surgery before I could comfortably bend down to pick things up off the floor. I’m back to normal things for the most part now. I noticed that golfing is a bad idea. I played a game a couple months ago and my QL inflamed and gave me a lot of pain. I’ve been back to lifting weights for the past year. A major modification I made for myself in regard to lifting is I don’t squat or deadlift heavy anymore since I don’t think it’s worth the risk. I exclusively do single leg squat and deadlift variations since they only require around half the spinal loading.
@@sirkam111 so even tho the herniation was removed and pressure taken off the nerve the pain you get is from nerve damage? Is it worth having the surgery? I’ve been confined to my sofa for the past 2weeks , can barely walk 10tf without my ass and leg feeling like it’s on fire and being squeezed, I’m crooked like a branch of a tree lol, had an injection Tuesday and it ain’t really working.
@@porkchop7268 It was worth it for me. I had sciatica down my left leg. My nerve had so much pressure that I was not able to move my leg in any way that requires to nerve to glide. As an example, while laying on the floor, I could only raise my left foot a few inches before I felt the nerve tug. Also, while seated I could not extend my leg because the nerve was stuck. Now after I recovered, I am able to do a full hamstring stretch, hands to feet with no pain. The nerve is able to slide again. It was very damaged, the doctor said it was flat when he saw it during surgery. Because of that, certain parts of my leg and foot are still a bit numb/tingly, but it has been going away slowly.
@@sirkam111 awesome I’m happy for you my man, I think I’m gonna go through with it, I’ve watched enough videos with great results, I’m just ready to have a normal active life again.
@@coffeeman3671 I had a great experience. The surgery went well and I had very minimal pain from the procedure. I went home two days after surgery (although I could have gone home the following day - it was an issue of family availability to drive me). Complete recovery obviously took time but I was able to see small gains each day. Now, over two years post procedure, I am so, so, so glad I had the operation as I have completely regained my quality of life.
I just had my surgery its been 72 hrs from now and ALHAMDULILLAH I am feeling better than before the pain and numbness has gone purely as soon as i came to my senses back after surgery and now its all good.
I have just had microdiscectomy on my l5 disc and s1 nerve root. I have had severe pain/numbness/ tingling sensations down the whole of my left leg and left foot for the past 9 months. When i woke up from the anaesthetic, i was able to walk around the ward absolutely pain free. I have minor pain at the incision site. It is going to be a tough next few month's with regards to recovery etc , but i have read so many posts and threads on this operation. some negative and some positive. I was completely on the fence with it but i think it comes down to individual themselves, and for me it has been worth it so far , yes it is early days but before surgery i couldnt sit, walk, sleep, lay down. The pain was excruciating. The truth is, once you have a back injury, you always have a back injury. But you can learn to manage it. Tell your kids to treat there spine like a piece glass. But in my opinion, wether this operation is beneficial and worth doing, is COMPLETELY down to the individual.
After my 2nd epidural injection it’s help a bit, but still hard to walk stand or sitting over long period time. Pain is really hard to dealt with, I couldn’t pee standing and it’s hurt my back so much so I have to sit in the bowl, getting out the car was exactly I did like what you did. Pain still there after my second epidural. I decided to try all vitamins b1,b2,b6 bcomplex, b12 in liquid, D3, Vit E, zinc, vit C, CoQ 10, pumpkin seeds oil, omega 3, black seed oil. With good diet, after taking all these vitamins I wash shocked ... pee just runs freely and my bowel like it flushed out of me that easy. I know it’s crazy when taking all these vitamins ... the whole thing I’ll take em before bed 12 midnight, the next morning 12:00 noon, then 6pm after that then 12 midnight again. After two weeks taking all these, pain gradually decreased and gone April 20. Imagine my bulging disk L4,L5 began November 10, 2018, then turn herniated disk L5, S1. My left leg was in pain, lower back, my left glute and my big toe is nambbing. Now May 10, this is my 6 months anniversary I am finally free of pain. I am still taking all these vitamins but once a day now. Right now I didn’t feel my lower back pain, no more pain my leg or numbness big toe. I hope to help more people just like me 504.237.0604
Hey Charlie, I see you’re in the 504, what part? I’m in the Metro NOLA. I need the same procedure done and I’m nervous as hell. Was wondering how are you now?
Sounds like you had a bad experience. I had the procedure done right after Christmas (December 26) and it was a game changer. My sciatic pain shooting down my left leg down to my toes was instantly gone. Only pain I’m experiencing is when I tried to lay on my back. It hurts because I’m hitting the location where I was cut. Walking and sitting has been great. I also was told I could shower 48 hours later but don’t saturate the wound. He wants me to air it out without a bandage. If my bandage isn’t leaking from the surgery and the stitches aren’t broken I was good to go for showering. I can only use DIAL soap. It definitely feels like I’m on house arrest because I can’t drive for 2 weeks. Good luck sir with the recovery. You definitely sound like you’re going through a bad experience. I couldn’t be happier with my L4 and L5 repair.
Had discectomy surgery 2 days ago. Feeling better. Just a bit worried about going back to gym in a few months. Doctors told me I can play sports but I always have doubts. Hope everyone has a great recovery!
@Savage Riddle Can't believe it has nearly been a year. I have fully recovered and been back to the gym. I do weight training which has been great and I can do most exercises. I have also played football, tennis and badminton and feel great. The only negative so far is sometimes I feel a slight tingle in my lower back which is not painful but just a change. Also sometimes I pull my muscle on my left leg and foot just gets locked. Only lasts a few secs but I think doctor said that bruised nerves take longer to heal. Hope this helps 😁
@Savage Riddle hope it goes well, take your time to rest. Don't worry about the surgery. The pain relief you will get is worth it. Sleeping might be uncomfertable for the first few weeks but just try to go on regular walks and not do any lifting or bending over. There were some things that I had to guide myself through so just reach out if you need someone to talk to that can relate :)
This randomly popped up on my suggestions when I am going through a difficult time due to sciatica (L4/L5 disc herniation). I am about to go for a Lumbar microdiscetomy surgery and this gave me a confident as well as bit nerves about how will I go through the all that what you described. Anyway I hope you are fully recovered now and thanks for the very informative video despite the pain that you were going through.
Had a microdiscectomy for L5,L4 yesterday morning. The pain in my leg was unbearable for 6 months before this, but following surgery the pain is 100% gone. Absolutely recommend going through with this procedure.
Hey hows it going? So I've just had a discectomy on my L5-S1 and exactly like you, my disc was bulging and aggravating my sciatic nerve and therefore my sciatic nerve was aggravating then my periformis muscle in my left glute, and also going down my left hamstring for over 4 months. But I got told before surgery avoid sitting, as that will make it worse, and I work in IT on my laptop all day so that was pretty hard. So I had to literally get out of bed in the morning, then lie on my sofa (couch) all day then go to bed, as I couldn't sit without it hurting. So that was pre surgery. I was not having a great lifestyle at all as I couldn't even go out for dinner or meet friends for a coffee as I couldn't sit. It was shite tbh. I got an MRI and is showed that I had a herniated disc in L5-S1, disc degeneration and also facet joint arthrosis. So there is alot going on. I'm only 38 years of age, and got alot of wear and tear. I think I will have to have steroid injections ongoing after surgery for the facet joint arthrosis as its causing me hip pain. I had the surgery just last Tuesday and my surgeon again advises only to sit for a maximum of 20 mins 3 times a day (basically to eat and that is it). I don't know why you've been given antibiotics when your wound isn't infected. In the UK, they give you some antibiotics in the drip they give you when you are coming round post surgery for 24 hours then after that they advise you to avoid baths but you can have a shower everyday. As long as the first day no soap/gels/shampoo etc touch the wound, (its covered up anyway so I knew I was having surgery so washed my hair the morning of the surgery so I didn't have to the following day. Also I was advised to change my wound dressing every other day, not for it to be kept on for 2 weeks. I know that the more you change your dressing the increase of infection, but so far, fingers crossed mine is healing just nicely and I am showering every morning. Its all very interesting how we are getting the same surgery and been told different things with regards to post surgery treatment. I had quite a bit of pain, was in hospital for 4 nights, on morphine, paracetomal, and dihydracodeine for pain, gabapentin for nerve pain, and ibuprofen for inflammation. Now post surgery I'm at day 10, I feel very queasy and had to be admitted to hospital as had problems passing urine, so waiting on the results for that. Apart from that, my wound is looking good, the pain is decreasing and I'm up walking about. My surgeon said 6-8 weeks recovery period but since I'm not going to get paid whilst I'm off, I'm going to go back after 4 weeks. I work from home anyways so it'll be ok, I can lie in my bed on my laptop. Anyways I know its been a year since you posted this but thought it would be helpful to post on this incase anybody else has found this post and has had different advice or experience to us. Take care.
Wow, Emma, you had it tougher than me! My "outpatient" surgery turned into a 3 day hospital stay but I was walking around and only on norco. Now 3 weeks post surgery there is not much improvement but I still have hope.
@@makeupbykhani8178 , Oh,hi! Thank you for your concern. I'm doing very well. I do have some permanent sensory nerve damage that causes numbness, tingling and sometimes pain on the top of my left foot. I can live with it. Otherwise I am fine now and just being careful to not overexert myself and blow out another disc! I hope you are also doing better.
@@makeupbykhani8178 , They have some degeneration and very minor bulging. When I blew out L5-S1 I was pulling a refrigerator and stove up stairs. I did not know about ruptured discs! Now I am careful to not over exert myself and keep the lifting more moderate!
I know you posted 3 years ago. But I've got my own l5-s1 surgery in a couple weeks and I'm absolutely terrified !! Mine is central/right. The pain is unbearable 😫 I'm currently sleeping on the living room floor with a bunch of blankets! Thanks for the info! Relieves a bit of my anxiety
@@Diana-wo9us I actually ended up not having the surgery, My back recovered miraculously after 8 years and just decided to go back to normal. took me about 3 months or so but now I have no pain and no numbness, I'm waiting to go do another MRI because they canceled my surgery twice and called back last week to reschedule for friday, but i passed for now because theres no point in taking unnecessary risks.
Thank you for your video. I just had my microdiscectomy yesterday. Sad that I cant surf or swim for a while but it’s helpful to see other people discuss their recovery process. Glad you had an amazing spouse and support team
Lumbardisectimy tomorrow at 8:30am. Been in chronic pain for over 5 years. Fell at work, screwed by worker’s compensation, waited 2 years to get on SSI. First surgery which was on L-4 and L-5 didn’t bring much relief. Now we have L-5 and S-1. Praying this will resolve my back issues. Please pray for me. My name is Alan. Thank you.
I had my Micro discectomy done 4 days ago. I had a bulge on L4-L5 and protrusion on L5-s1 . which caused back pain and numbness on left foot toes finger 2 to 5. My surgeon is a korean doctor in Dubai and he used laser to cut the L5-s1 protrusion and another procedure to basically cooked the L4-L5 disck bulge which then shrunk due to cooking and left space for my nerve . My lower back nerve pain is gone but a different pain is there which is local to the operated area and numbness spreaded to the whole left leg initially but now its more prominent on the toe and calf .. tigh is kinda on/off . The nurse told me its normal and will be gone slowly I am scheduled for a fallow up visit after two days. Bottom line is if your pain disturb your life then do this procedure its a life changer..
I've been living with the most excruciating and constant pain in my right leg for over 2 months because of a "serious" L4 L5 disc herniation that's pressing on the L5 nerve root. I'm scheduled for surgery in a couple weeks followed by a month off from work and I can't fucking wait. Wish me luck y'all.
I’m about to have this done. L5-S1 herniated disc with 13mm excursion pressing on my S1 and S2 nerve root. Weird I have zero back pain, but had bad sciatic pain for awhile. I don’t have any sciatic or leg pain now. Just a dull ache in my calf and tiny bit of sciatic pain when I first wake up and get out of bed. I have lost function of my left calf muscle meaning I cannot stand on the ball of my foot on one leg.
I just had a Microdiscectomy a few days ago and I have to lay down. I don’t know how you are sitting in the video. I have to either be laying down or walking. Sitting is too painful. I get up out of bed about three times a day for 10-20 minutes and walk around the house, go to the bathroom, shower, etc.. then I get back in bed. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to get out of bed and sit in the living room because I’m getting so bored in bed.
My husband is having this surgery and were told NO sitting straight up for a couple of weeks because it puts pressure on the discs! I Cnt believe he’s sitting up so much!
I’ve just had my second microdissecting me on my L5 S1 disc. Feel a lot better, I think this surgery has improved my condition a lot more than the previous one
Hi brother, if we do microdisectonomy once. Will this reoccur again? am having disc protrusion and living with pain for more than 3 months. I'm worried that if I do surgery once and there is a possibility of herniation of someother disc. Is that true?
@@sriharim5578 yes it can happen again but you have to be careful once you’ve had the surgery. Once your foot becomes floppy, that means your disc has ruptured and it is important to get operation done that’s what happened to me. I think my first operation wasn’t that successful due to the surgeon being orthopaedic surgeon. The second operation was conducted by a neurosurgeon, much better now although some nerve damage on the left side. Can’t really feel my leg have to take gabapentin every day to ease the burning pain. Other than that much better than before.
@@sriharim5578 You said you were having pain for more than three months, but that means you really do need the surgery. If pain subsides after 6 to 8 weeks then there’s no need for operation.
I had microdiscectomy in 2012 at L4-S1. Both discs were herniated. After surgery I was ok for a little while and then slowly my pain returned. I tried epidural injections and therapy but pain returns still. Now I am in my mid 40s and am going in for a laminectomy again at L4-S1. I don’t want to wait till past 50 to do surgery again. I have been living with the back and leg pain for years. When I do heavy work I am out for a couple of days while I take medications to relieve pain. I am hoping this takes care of it as it affects what I can and can’t do.
Dude Thank you so much. Im going to get mine done for L3L4&L5. Took the lumar epiodoral shot not working at all. Looking forward to hear after 5 days. Again thanks ,very gteat info
Thanks for the video, I’ve had my second surgery in less than a month My first surgery was to instal a spacer in my lower back because of my left leg pain, did not help so I had to get a discsectimy that I had today 4-8-22, I had exactly what u had but I’ve been in sever pain for over a year straight. I’m a assistant manager in a meat dept at a grocery store & I usually work at least 50hrs a week, the leg pain for me was the worst, your videos have been helping just wanted to say thank you
Thanks for the information, it helped me knowing what to expect. I was in a bad car accident back in Sept of 2019, someone ran through an intersection on my way to work and have been through so much over the past year, having therapy, adjustments, etc neck and back AXIOM therapy which did not work for me. Had 2 different Ablation injections at the Orthopedics office, and didn't help with my pain. Its been something and so limited to what I can do. My new SUV was totaled but thank God as it could have been much worse, I can walk but have developed Neuropathy in my feet and also injured my left shoulder and neck as well. I have numbness and tingly sensations in my left arm and hand. All from the nerve damage and compression. Iwill be having a Endoscopic Disectomy in Feb along with a Rhizotomy something the surgeon does with my nerves and in addition a Stem Cell Transplant called Iliac Crest Harvest which I looked up and sounds scary. I've spent over a year limited to a lot and lost most my clients I worked for doing House Cleaning which is not good for my back and neck for sure. Its been quite a year. I pray I get through this, my surgery I was told will be done as a Outpatient. My biggest fear is the Nausea but my Dr will be prescribing Hydrocodone 300 mg and Zofran for the nausea. I don't do well with pain at all so praying I get through this! Hope your doing well.
Thanks for this video man, been in the worst pain these past months because of the same problem my leg hurts day and night and my foot gets numb,im really hoping i get surgery just to not feel pain anymore, shots medicine nothing is cutting it
79 and laminectomy was recommened ....really have no major strength in my legs so getting up out of bed and chair concerns me.......coldness in legs and aches and some burning.....very conflicted about surgery. (severe spinal stenosis)..show one of you getting out of bed..that would be helpful
Ryan, really appreciated the video. The good stuff, I am still laughing at you getting out of the car and then walking around like an 80 year old trying not to shit himself! I say that 13 days post surgery, having been there and looking exactly like you, and I thought I was alone. It’s been bloody painful, before and after, and it’s the hamstring and calf tension that has hit me hardest. 2 days after surgery i felt amazing, but have relapsed back a bit, as my body recovers etc. I’ve needed lots of drugs, god knows what it would be like without them… I’m also being patient, baby steps, resting but mobilising and looking fwd to getting active when I can. Staples come out tomorrow. I managed a restaurant meal out today as I had reseted all day, hope I don’t regret that tomorrow
I also had severe headaches and nausea, but it will pass within a week. I think it is due to the meds an gas. Not nice!!! The pain centralizes, feels like a muscle spasm ball, but it will pass. Good luck guys, hang in there!!!! 💪💪💪💪💪👊👊👊👊👊👊
Had microdisc surgery 4 days ago. Thank God. 2 herniated disks. Pinched sciatic nerve. Slept on couch sitting up for a month. Couldn't walk, stand or lay down. Multiple shots in the ass no help. Was given hydrocodone, oxycodon, muscle relaxers, steroids even a shot of morphine. No help. It made me drowsy. Eating Advil like candy. Did nothing for the pain. Neurosurgeon sent me for an epidural. Nothing, I was really disappointed. It hurt like hell. Finally, He said let's go. He is about 35 and is raved about. He explained to me what He was going to do after he went in. Made it sound like he was simply moving a chair across the room. Said I'd be good to go. God bless that man. Next days after surgery I was real sore. A good sore. No sciatic pain. It feels great. My wife said it's the first time I've smiled in over a month. Still icing it, taking it easy. Find a good surgeon and good luck.
Looking at this procedure in my near future. Hurt my back in the army years ago. My L4 and L5 and also degeneration. The pain in my back, my hips neck and shoulders in INSANE. My calves and hamstrings are so tight also. I’m nervous about this happening for I know it’s happening. I see spinal drs next month. Thank you for making this video
I had this surgery 12 hours ago, they had to cut through the muscle and it took around 2.5 hours, I’ve had no nausea or anything just severe pain, I can’t move at all, had 4 nurses try to help me sit up but I had to go back down, I’ve had excruciating pain with this my lower back and sciatica for a couple years now so they said it’ll definitely take longer to recover with all of that pain still lingering. Fabbbbb
I had l4-s1 discectomy and I can’t understand how he’s sitting up so well I couldn’t sit up for a whole week now I’m almost to a month post op and still can’t sit up for more than 30 min also I was told I could shower and change bandage after 3 days
Things have changed a lot in a few years. I had my disc killing my nerve on the right side from the L4, L5 disc. My surgery took about an hour. In about to hit my 2 week mark, still having nerve pain in my peroneal nerve area also big toe and ball of foot go numb. I believe my nerve is still gonna feel pain for a while because it was extremely punched for a lil over a year, I just toughed it out at with the whole time. Im hoping the nerve pain eventually goes away, I would be reluctant to have the surgery done again.
I am getting ready to have the same surgery on my back and this video told me a lot about what to expect. My brother had the same surgery and he told me it was very painful so needless to say I was very anxious about what to expect. After seeing this, I have told myself that I can do this and handle the pain. I am a side sleeper so sleeping may be difficult. May have to sleep in a lazyboy chair. Thanks for the video.
Don’t worry about it I’ve just had the operation three weeks ago. It was my second operation on the same disk. Trust me it does not hurt at all, in fact he will feel so much better after the surgery and get a better sleep. I am a side sleeper I don’t have any issues
Just had surgery yesterday. It was called Min.invasine L3-L4 lumbar lamino-foraminotomy. So surgery went well my nerve was pinched so he went in and cut some of the bone out so the nerve would have room. But before surgery my right leg hurt so bad never had so much pain and have had both hips replaced but now the only pain I have is around my waist when I start to stand or sit down. The cut is about 2-3 inches that just feels like a big bruise. But enjoyed your video and I would not wish back problems on anyone. Good luck and God bless
Had my l4-l5 surgery on october 1. Didn't feel any pain in my back or leg but i got constipated from the anastasia, i never felt anything like it. They gave me a few oxycodone for pain. As of this date i have no pain at all, my left shin is numb and may stay that way as i was pinched for six weeks. Hope you are doing ok now and i hope others will have faith and get this done.

Almost no pain, unless I work too much ( standing too long is uncomfortable). I would definitely recommend a surgery if your doctor says that is what you need. I have just got back into the swimming pool . Water helps SO much! You can also check my channel for water exercise ideas.water walk is great for back pain. I hope you get better !
I had a L4 lumbar decompression discectomy and still have leg pain. It's been 6 days since surgery and the doctors assistant advised me that this is normal (I hope) while the nerve is recovering being pinched
I’m having l5 s1 surgery in 3 weeks on my right side it’s been 5 months since my injury and I’ve noticed a week ago that the pain is now goin to my left side I can still lift my left leg but now with a bit of pain the dr said a little is pinching my left but I can walk great not run but walk no bending no lifting my right leg without the pain sitting is becoming an issue now and it getting more painful every other day so idk what else to think but getting rid of the pain getting my life back little by little hope you’re doing great and great recovery
@@ToroGlm it's been almost 6 weeks since my surgery and I'm getting better. My left leg still has some pain shooting down it and my thigh muscle is still weak and sluggish, however, physical therapy is helping. As far as my back, it's still stiff and slowly getting better. I have developed a large seroma and it has been drained twice and in need of a third. Best of luck to you! Be patient during your recovery.
Had the same as you for surgery (L4 & L5 for me) and my leg is still asleep after 5 days of surgery. I got this though! Hoping with more walking it’ll get back to normal
I'm about to get my L5-S1 and apparently part of the herniated disc broke off and my back and I am terrified, I'm 34 and only ever had 2 ver u minor surgeries ever, I've watch most t of ur videos and im finishing them now so far u made me feel a lot better, the worst part for me so far is that I have not been in the gym for over 2 months and I have another three months they're telling me until I could start working out light even but gotta just get it over with!
Just had a double laminectomy and discectomy L4-L5 to L5-S1 . The nausea is ridiculous at times , so sick . The fact that we can’t twist bend or what not is impossible at home . I feel like every time I get up I hurt my back , trying to walk and take it easy but sitting and going to bed is so so hard . Also the constipation is next level 😂
I got two herniated disc at l3-l4 and l5-s1 my surgeon went on vacation when she gets back I will have my surgery . Got lots of pain going down my left leg lots burning like fire pins and needles and my leg muscle draws up and gets hard like muscle cramp . I’m 49...
L5 herniated, nerve compression after a month of herniated…I can’t feel from my toes to my calf. Can’t do a calf stand on the left leg. I’m thankful for the tremendous nerve pain that has disappeared but scared I have permanent nerve damage. 9MM herniation (second time this happened) so I’m scheduled for surgery next month…
Just got home from the hospital. Going on hour 34 since surgery. I really enjoyed this video dude. I'm going through it right now especially since my bed is practically on the floor. I didn't have a great experience at the hospital I went to or the doctor who did the surgery. I just hope this gets easier. Alot of pain and nausea but at least the sciatica running down my leg is gone. It's getting easier the more I walk. And sticking to no bending lifting or twisting. Thanks for giving me insight on your experience
@@ASMRCoeur so now it's been months since October but I still have slight sciatica. Doctor says it's normal and I should lose some weight to carry less of it
I was able to shower 4 days after surgery. I had steri strips on my back. I had 3 herniations at L3/L4, L4/L5,& L5/S1. My incision is about 7 inches long. I couldn't move because it was sore. 2nd day PT cane by and had me sit up and walk around to the nurses station. 3rd day I was having fevers and night sweats. I also had a wound vacuum ball. I took the pain pills norco and Percocet. Neither helped. I was lucky if I could sleep a few hours without anyone coming in to wake me up for vitals. Went home on Thursday afternoon. First took a shower because I was not allowed to bathe. Now I'm still at home walking a little more. Every move feels like its gonna hurt and it does as you first get up. Once your up the pain becomes a bearable. I sat in a chair for 3 hrs on the 2nd day. Now what's pissing me off is that my skin seems to be pinched and I have this huge upside down U shaped piece of skin on my mid back. Oh and he did a bilateral disectomy when I never said my right side was hurting. Now my right foot is numb and my original left side only is pain free from what I can tell. I never knew there was any issue with my right side that was ever mentioned in any meeting with my doctor. Anyways that was my experience. I m just wondering what to do.
@@Jordan-ln2ef oh I forgot to say that the dimple that forms and also feels a little weird at the surgical site will go away. My neighbor had the same surgery and he was the one that told me it would go away and he was right, it did. It kinda feels like there's an invisible thumb pushing your skin up. When I first saw it I thought damm my surgeon doesnt know to to suture worth a crap. But he used an absorbing sutures that dont need to be removed. If you have just one disc that needs to be fixed then out patient surgery is possible also because your incision will be minimal, about an inch if they do micro laminectomy. Where small tubes used to reach the damaged area rather than have to open you up a little more. I had a combo of both surgeries. He relieved the pressure on a right nerve that he saw on the MRI. I also woke up with my R leg feeling numb below the knee. He told me it would go away and it did a little at a time. I still have a little bit of numbness but tge sensation goes away when I stand and walk.
One thing I recommend is to find a neurosurgeon instead of an ortho. I personally feel I would rather have someone that specializes in nerves than bone. The ortho guy I saw wanted to fuse 3 bones in my spine essentially disabling me for the rest of my life. I m glad I found my doctor.
I'm about to have a disectomy on my L5/S1 disk. I was lifting a couch and it went. I originally had a lot of pain for about 1 week, but then it left. I however had a weak ankle and numb left foot. My surgeon said that from the looks of the MRI, he would've had surgery if I was still in pain. The foot numbness/weakness eventually went away after a few weeks. Fast forward 4 months to 2 days ago. I get home from a night with the mates and my back is killing me. I go to sleep and when I awaken, I have the worst pain imaginable and I can no longer stand up. Went to the ER today for another MRI and scheduled a micro disectomy for Friday.
Just had my L5-S1 Microdiscectomy last night. Feels like I was stabbed in the back with a sword lol but fortunately I haven’t had to take any pain meds. Pain was much worse when I first injured myself. Thank you for your videos 👊🏼
@@Cordell- I went to the ER after week 2 because I was getting intense and frequent back spasms. An MRI showed that the L5-S1 disc they operated on was good 👍🏼 but now my L4-L5 disc is bulging 4mm, considered a “protrusion.” I have since taken prednisone and muscle relaxers (when needed) which have helped to bring down the pain, but it’s frustrating because I don’t know if the pain is coming from the surgery recovery or from the disc bulge. Doctor wants to wait it out to see if the disc bulge will heal on its own or to see if I’m perhaps asymptomatic to it; he’s hoping the pain/spasms are just from the surgery recovery. I’d rather just have another Microdiscectomy to clean it up so it’s not an issue in the future.
Hello. I’m having a decompression discectomy. My healthcare denied my surgery for back but approved surgery for the decompression surgery to help with leg and ass pain. Most of my pain is with my 2.7 tear in disc. Healthcare said surgery for test is medically unnecessary.’it must be 3mill tear to receive surgery. I’m mad but I’ll take this surgery bc better than nothing. This video did help me on what to expect and man I’m terrified. The whole thinking of possible infection or paralyzes. Thanks for this video though
Brother only leg pain gone or back pain also?
@Daniel Tate Hey Daniel, yes I think that is what caused my back to go as I used to love the gym nowadays I couldn’t think of anywhere worse to go. It was a couple of years between surgeries and the first time was the disc below the L4-L5 that went. So seems mine were the other way round. Very common procedure and issue for people with bad backs.

My son is having surgery today and thank you for relieving my own stress about it. Very informative
How you feel now
I'm sorry for your struggles. Best wishes to you!
Don’t be afraid to heal after, it’ll come
Thank you for the encouraging words and best wishes to you
Helping me so much.

Hi, how are you now?
I just had mine yesterday and feel inspired after seeing to to post my own video someday if it would help other folks

Thanks bro now i feel confident for my L4-L5 discsectomy
Hope it went well or goes well if you haven't had it yet. I had L4L5 surgery 15 months ago and the recovery was longer than I was expecting
@@3point1.2 how long?? I had l4 l5 a week ago and my pain in still there. I’m worried it didn’t take 😔
@@ginmock1133 well to be honest it's still not 100%.
How are you now? I need the sand procedure done but have soooo many questions about life after surgery.
I am anticipating surgery for the same issue and really appreciate you sharing your experience so I have an idea of what I might expect. Thanks.
How did it go?
@@coffeeman3671 I had a great experience. The surgery went well and I had very minimal pain from the procedure. I went home two days after surgery (although I could have gone home the following day - it was an issue of family availability to drive me). Complete recovery obviously took time but I was able to see small gains each day. Now, over two years post procedure, I am so, so, so glad I had the operation as I have completely regained my quality of life.
@@hileallent That’s amazing man!
Thanks for posting, been putting off telling my doctor about my back problem. Not many people I know recommend getting your back cut on.
Did you have surgery ? Or just vitamins ?
Thanks for the info. I wish you a speedy recovery. Take care of your health
Had discectomy surgery 2 days ago. Feeling better. Just a bit worried about going back to gym in a few months. Doctors told me I can play sports but I always have doubts. Hope everyone has a great recovery!
how was your sports
@Savage Riddle Can't believe it has nearly been a year. I have fully recovered and been back to the gym. I do weight training which has been great and I can do most exercises. I have also played football, tennis and badminton and feel great.
The only negative so far is sometimes I feel a slight tingle in my lower back which is not painful but just a change. Also sometimes I pull my muscle on my left leg and foot just gets locked. Only lasts a few secs but I think doctor said that bruised nerves take longer to heal. Hope this helps 😁

This randomly popped up on my suggestions when I am going through a difficult time due to sciatica (L4/L5 disc herniation).
Did u have back pain b4 surgery or only leg pain
Just leg pain gone ? What about back ?

The nurse told me its normal and will be gone slowly
I am scheduled for a fallow up visit after two days.
You will be alright brother. am planning to do in couple of weeks.
Thanks for the footage and explanation of acouple things.my pain is gone but a new pain came in my right quad
Ultram (tramadol) 50mgx2 is not very helpful. I understand the fear of prescribing opiates but I wish there was another alternative pain killer
@@myview2519 Thanks for responding brother. That helps. I will get my surgery done soon. Wish me luck.
@My View im on week 9 cant get out of bed for more then 20 mins.. massive pain in lower back like a pinced nreve
Did you have your 2nd surgery yet? If so, how’s it go?
@@ginmock1133 yes, had it back in March. Recovery was better than the first one. I feel good so far.
@@jagmechtech how you getting on now mate?
Dude Thank you so much. Im going to get mine done for L3L4&L5. Took the lumar epiodoral shot not working at all.
Looking forward to hear after 5 days.
Again thanks ,very gteat info
godlyswaggergirl s I did two shots and no help. So my surgery is next week
Shots did nothing for me either.
Hi I had the same operation 5 months ago and and still have nerve pain down the left leg.
Wish I never had it.probably worse than before.
Thanks so much for sharing! I hope you're recovered and have your normal life back!
Thanks for the video, I’ve had my second surgery in less than a month
My first surgery was to instal a spacer in my lower back because of my left leg pain, did not help so I had to get a discsectimy that I had today 4-8-22, I had exactly what u had but I’ve been in sever pain for over a year straight. I’m a assistant manager in a meat dept at a grocery store & I usually work at least 50hrs a week, the leg pain for me was the worst, your videos have been helping just wanted to say thank you
Thank you so much for this x really helpful as I’m due to have same surgery x thank you ❤
Thanks for the information, it helped me knowing what to expect.
Thank you for sharing. I really hope this has helped you. I go in one week to have quite a few things done to my spine. Take care.
I just watched this and I have my appointment on Friday. Thank you for this!!
Thanks for this video man, been in the worst pain these past months because of the same problem my leg hurts day and night and my foot gets numb,im really hoping i get surgery just to not feel pain anymore, shots medicine nothing is cutting it
My surgery is scheduled for next week. Thank you for sharing, it helps to know what is ahead.
How'd it go Angie? Hope you feel much better now.
Got mine yesterday. Videos are helping big time!
Thanks for posting. Extremely informative... I am having this procedure next week. Thanks again!
Derek Gamble hello. How is your recovery? It’s been a long tine I see but I wanted some feed back bc I’m having my surgery feb 5 and I’m terrified.
@@melic38 How are you now Mel?
79 and laminectomy was recommened ....really have no major strength in my legs so getting up out of bed and chair concerns me.......coldness in legs and aches and some burning.....very conflicted about surgery. (severe spinal stenosis)..show one of you getting out of bed..that would be helpful
Thanks sir, much appreciated. Hope you are ok now
Going in soon for same procedure. Thank you. Helpful
I too planning for the procedure soon. If we do surgery, is there possibility of reoccurrence of different disc herniation next time.?
Thanks for sharing- helps to know what to expect!
Thank you! I have my surgery L5S1 on February 17th so a cpl weeks away and I'm super nervous! Good to know these things especially when I get home.
Hey how are you now
The pain is gone?
Forgot to ask, what’s with the towel?
I'm having surgery soon. This was very informative... thank you!
Thanks for sharing. I hope you are totally recovered.
Ty for the video I'm getting ready to go have pretty much same thing done and I'm kinda nervous so just hearing somewhat to expect helps
It was a very useful video. Thank you. Especially the point about throwing up. Like you, I go into shudders and spasms when feeling sick.
Thanks for making this video
Just had surgery yesterday. It was called Min.invasine L3-L4 lumbar lamino-foraminotomy. So surgery went well my nerve was pinched so he went in and cut some of the bone out so the nerve would have room. But before surgery my right leg hurt so bad never had so much pain and have had both hips replaced but now the only pain I have is around my waist when I start to stand or sit down. The cut is about 2-3 inches that just feels like a big bruise. But enjoyed your video and I would not wish back problems on anyone. Good luck and God bless
Just found this, thanks. The issues i have point to me having this surgery.
Hi. I had mine 3 weeks ago. I felt better immidiatelly and now feel way better. Well I still have some tingling and numbness in my leg but hope this will be gone. Thanks for the vixeo
How do you feel now? I'm in the worst pain... Can't run can't sit can't stand long life has gone to shit. Im miserable and debating this surgery
@@ryanbrandnu7660 I am sorry that you are in pain :( I am currently 7 weeks after the surgery and I feel very good. I am not 100% well yet, but I would say 75 % of old me is back.
Also the constipation is next level
😂
Hi Billy, when you did your first? If we do surgery, whether herniation occur again in different disc?
Just got home from the hospital. Going on hour 34 since surgery. I really enjoyed this video dude. I'm going through it right now especially since my bed is practically on the floor. I didn't have a great experience at the hospital I went to or the doctor who did the surgery. I just hope this gets easier. Alot of pain and nausea but at least the sciatica running down my leg is gone. It's getting easier the more I walk. And sticking to no bending lifting or twisting. Thanks for giving me insight on your experience
How are you now ?
@@ASMRCoeur so now it's been months since October but I still have slight sciatica. Doctor says it's normal and I should lose some weight to carry less of it
@@tomcoco22 how about noq
How do you feel now sir?
Just had the surgery on the 3rd. took less than an hour for the procedure. 4 days post op and still havent needed any pain meds.
Thanks for the video, I'm not as afraid anymore.
How long ago was this nightmare and are you still feeling the pain?
Its helpful to a bed rail. They have on amazon for $10-20. Very helpful.
Very informative!! I go for my microdiscectomy surgery in 5 days… I am so nervous
How are now Mariel?
I just had this exact surgery a few hours ago and I’m already feeling the soreness he’s been talking about
how are you now? Are you good now?
How are you now bro?
I’m having this done in a few weeks, thanks for the info-
I’m 5 days out, thank you for this
Just had my L5-S1 Microdiscectomy last night. Feels like I was stabbed in the back with a sword lol but fortunately I haven’t had to take any pain meds.
Pain was much worse when I first injured myself.
Thank you for your videos 👊🏼
How are you doing now?
@@Cordell- I went to the ER after week 2 because I was getting intense and frequent back spasms. An MRI showed that the L5-S1 disc they operated on was good 👍🏼 but now my L4-L5 disc is bulging 4mm, considered a “protrusion.”
I have since taken prednisone and muscle relaxers (when needed) which have helped to bring down the pain, but it’s frustrating because I don’t know if the pain is coming from the surgery recovery or from the disc bulge.
Very helpful information. Thanks
I'm about to have the exact same surgery in 4 days time and am scared about it. Good to hear your thoughts post op
God bless you

About to go through this 6 hrs after yours… And appreciate hearing your experiences! How’s your back been in the long-term?
