The Ego review series has been a huge inspiration to me to try and make a series of games, its been a lot of fun and I have picked up a lot of tips about game design from watching these videos, thank you for this epic journey, I wouldn't have done it without you.

If you listen to him, he does exactly that, wraps up the whole story in a couple minutes and you go and tyrannically rule a nation with him. It's the sort of Bioshock/System Shock thing where the game uses common mechanics to manipulate the player, to "play the player" as it were.
S4 was...rushed. You can definitely tell it was rushed, and in a very sloppy way. It's not a very good game of all of them, a lot of fans consider it the worst. S5 was very good though, so if you liked S3, definitely check out Suikoden 5.
In Silent Hill 2, the reason its "After hearing a girl moan" is because Pyramid Head is standing in hallway on the other side of an iron gate and you can see him standing there. Then when you go into the apartment room, he comes in and is playing with the mannequins.
Even though Derek is a simple character, I find him very endearing. He's a naughty bloke when it comes to poaching and drinking, but he is also very considerate, good humored, and a loyal friend. I still am moved by when he tries to comfort Rebecca after Magnus blamed her for their father's death, "There weren't nowt thee could've done, love." Even though he's the reluctant hero, who'd probably prefer dining on rabbit pie over being the ultimate savior of the underworld, he insists on saving Gamey and helping Rebecca, and his determination to save Rebecca from the Abyss' judgment (even if it meant defying the Judge's narration) makes him all the more endearing. I still find it awesome that a mere Yorkshireman potentially could destroy the Judge, the equivalent of Minos, Annubis, and God.
Far Cry 4 lets you fuck off at the very beginning. You just have to wait for Pagan Min for about 20 mins at his palace and he takes you to deliver the urn and then game over.
With the sheer number of Yahtzee's characters who have strained relationships with their fathers, and now being chased by a deadly wall of angry ghost dads at the end of this game ... I'm thinking Yahtzee has some issues he's working through.
Well he's been pretty open with the fact that he's not close to his parents as they don't approve of his career choice. In fact I believe he said in a stream his mum emailed him during one of the financial crises saying "Well now that not many people will be buying video games maybe it's time you got a real job."
Okay, I'm actually really keen on seeing that Poacher 2. So far Poacher's been the most endearing of Yahtzee's games with fun characters and more active gameplay. And yes, bionic arm Missus Derek!
Wasn't a Dark Souls fan when I first listened to lets drown out. So their constant ramblings about it went over my head and I kind of tuned out. Second time through the series and I am into Dark Souls now and playing it at the moment, and love when they talk about it :-) Nice to have a new angle.
At the beginning of Golden Sun you can fuck off from the temple after the end of the world starts and you get a bit of a dialogue and you get a game over.
I'd definitely be interested in a Poacher sequel. Especially if you put in some sort of 'Charlotte'-'Johnathan'-'Charlotte'-'Johnathan' joke between Derek and his wife.
those floating dark worm monsters remind me of this old animeish movie called "princess mononoke". It had all these blackish purpleish worms forming a giant mass that would pretty much just eat everything. Anyone else remember that one?
So I decided to play through the game after your first part, and I honestly really liked it. The shooting feels kind of awkward in the sort of hitscan way, but you can quickly get used to it, and it feels incredibly satisfying to actually hit things. I really enjoyed the dialogue and the story, but I felt the ending was sort of unsatisfying as far as character development went (not the final boss in the secret ending, cause I fucking loved that and everything leading up to it). If I could give one thing that I dislike, the games not very replayable. As far as starting from scratch. It might just be me, but when you take away all the cool movement, I just can't get back into the platforming like I was. Bit of a shame, because I wanted to see all the possible endings. As for the ending I got (the judge one). I loved every single damn second of it. I raged at it, I spent like four hours beating it. The parts leading up to it was fucking awesome, and the dialogue where Anubis is freaking out because you didn't do anything wrong just made me laugh in that annoyingly smug way, because fuck you I have the moral highground. The actual fight with him is everything I'd want from a final boss. I had so much just fun learning all the different ways to dodge in the first phase. For example, the grenades being able to block projectiles with their explosions allowed me to just ignore the attack where he rains projectiles down by throwing a grenade at his eye at the perfect time. The second phase of him was just a complete pain in the ass. The instant death pit was probably about 75% of my deaths on him. But I still loved it because I always felt like I fucked up, which makes all the difference in bosses like this. Not much to really say on it other than it offered a fun challenge. Third phase, as well, although that only killed me once since I saw he only shot when I did. Last thing I want to mention. That little bit, where you climb out of the pit after beating the boss? Fuck you for that, Yahtzee. I beat the boss, thought I was done, died there, and was sent back to the boss. This happened fucking twice, and I could almost hear you laughing at my misery. It did at least prove that the boss is skill based though, because he gave me very little trouble after I beat him once. Overall, it's a good game, especially so if you're into this sort of thing, but starts off slow and is kind of boring (platforming wise mostly) until your start getting all the cool stuff. I'd definitely recommend checking it out to anyone either way, cause it's free, which is awesome. Does Yahtzee even read comments anymore? I stopped watching this channels content for a while due to a lack of free time.

I know I'm years late, but I seriously recommend playing for the best ending. Judge of all the earth is an amazing boss fight, probably one of my favorites of all time.
I remember taking a Rocko's Modern Life quiz at some point. One of the questions was, in this episode during this scene, what time is it on the wall clock in the background? The funny thing is, even if you had somehow retained that excruciatingly inconsequential detail by some means, it's impossible to tell if it's actually showing 4:00 or 5:00 anyway because of the deliberately lopsided geometry of the show.
In the PS2 game "Lifeline", after the girl you're ordering around finds a gun and fights the first creature, she asks you to help her get through the rest of the space station. If you say no, she gets all huffy at you and shoots the camera you're watching her through, and you get a "game over".
The First Fear is a PS1 port of the SNES version. It's mostly the same, the only changes are a rearranged sound track, some voice acting, and an extra side quest. I actually worked on the fan translation of The First Fear (I worked on the script and dialogue and whatnot.) I'd be more than happy to send you guys a link to the patch if you ever want to do a Let's Drown Out on it.

And it's in the apartment building after hearing a girl moan. So it's not 'both of those were true,' just one of them. I know more about Silent Hill 2 than Yahtzee, and I only played the game once! I downloaded Poacher after part one of this playthrough, but I've got an error where the game crashes almost every time I kill a blue shellosaur. I suppose I could just avoid them, but the same thing also happened the first time I killed the big rabbit, and one time when I died.
Yhatzee's remark about the Bionic Commando remake boss that you can interrupt reminds me of Asura's Wrath, where while the bosses gloat at you, you get a prompt to shut them up, usually by rushing forward with a scream and a haymaker.

I downloaded poacher cause I wanted to see the judge and holy fucking hell the "things that roam the shadows of the crystal tombs" are terrifying the first time you see them.
I'd buy a sequel to Poacher. You could always include the original in a bundle, for anyone who hadn't played it. Maybe link the achievements to Steam if you could be bothered.
Asura's Wrath has the same "fuck you" style of skipping cutscenes. Instead of "press O to skip cutscene" during long villain speeches it just says "press O to shut them up" which makes Asura punch them in the face.
On the subject of possible ideas for Poacher 2. Maybe Ms Badger could get a bionic spine too, that way she could just lug Derek around to justify them serving as a unit. you could even put in a thing where you interrogate alien bureaucrats for pass-codes to unlock segments of the spine and improve mobility.

There are two Harvest Moon games where you can simply refuse to take over the farm, ending the game early. Also, in Harvest Moon DS, your dog pounces on the mayor in the intro sequence, and if you refuse to help him a couple of times, your dog kills him, leading to a game over. Probably the second darkest easter egg in any Harvest Moon game. (The darkest is in the same game. If you put a level 99 poison toadstool in the pot at the harvest festival, you poison everyone in town and get a game over.)
Not sure if you guys take requests because of the way this channel goes but you should totally play Her Story! You are both clever enough to get through it in at least one episode or two
The trope about purple often being used for dark and evil is called "Color-Coded for Your Convenience" on TVTropes. There's also "Good Colors, Evil Colors" for which colors are used for what. It's used in almost everything from computer games to TV shows and comics. Superhero comics especially; It's how I figured out the twist of the movie "Unbreakable" within the first 10 minutes. *Spoiler* *but* *also* *relevant* You can tell who the bad guy is when they first see him in the movie because he likes the color purple. Which, in only one case I can think of (The Hulk, and he wears purple pants because of old school printing issues) is ALWAYS a villain color.

Regarding the pyramid head questions, you're correct that pyramid head was more likely a creation of James' mind, since all he actually says is they're there to punish him, but the question about when he first sees pyramid head was accurate. Silent Hill 2 was an incredibly flag-heavy game (irritatingly so), and the player is in fact required to see pyramid head on the other side of the bars outside the room with the corpse by the TV before seeing him in the room with the mannequins.
You can kinda fuck off in Far Cry 4 too. If you just wait around on the mansion, the villain guy comes back and gives you a ride home or something like that.
Killing gman in the intro for HL2 is easy. Open dev console, activate cheats, pawn yourself weapons, NAIL GMAN TO THE GREENSCREEN TYPE BACKGROUND WITH A CROSSBOW BOLT.

I can't help but imagine Tonberries from Final Fantasy now having thick Northern accents because of the Bleminegs.
The biggest issue I've seen with this game is the lack of music. It's mostly atmospheric, even at the parts that could use some driving tunes.
When and if Yahtzee does a sequel, it should include dropbears .
You know, given this is a freeware game, if you were to create Poacher 2, you could pack in Poacher 1 for free.

I downloaded Poacher after part one of this playthrough, but I've got an error where the game crashes almost every time I kill a blue shellosaur. I suppose I could just avoid them, but the same thing also happened the first time I killed the big rabbit, and one time when I died.

Yhatzee's remark about the Bionic Commando remake boss that you can interrupt reminds me of Asura's Wrath, where while the bosses gloat at you, you get a prompt to shut them up, usually by rushing forward with a scream and a haymaker.

I downloaded poacher cause I wanted to see the judge and holy fucking hell the "things that roam the shadows of the crystal tombs" are terrifying the first time you see them.

I'd buy a sequel to Poacher. You could always include the original in a bundle, for anyone who hadn't played it. Maybe link the achievements to Steam if you could be bothered.
Asura's Wrath has the same "fuck you" style of skipping cutscenes. Instead of "press O to skip cutscene" during long villain speeches it just says "press O to shut them up" which makes Asura punch them in the face.

On the subject of possible ideas for Poacher 2. Maybe Ms Badger could get a bionic spine too, that way she could just lug Derek around to justify them serving as a unit. you could even put in a thing where you interrogate alien bureaucrats for pass-codes to unlock segments of the spine and improve mobility.

There are two Harvest Moon games where you can simply refuse to take over the farm, ending the game early. Also, in Harvest Moon DS, your dog pounces on the mayor in the intro sequence, and if you refuse to help him a couple of times, your dog kills him, leading to a game over. Probably the second darkest easter egg in any Harvest Moon game. (The darkest is in the same game. If you put a level 99 poison toadstool in the pot at the harvest festival, you poison everyone in town and get a game over.)

The trope about purple often being used for dark and evil is called "Color-Coded for Your Convenience" on TVTropes. There's also "Good Colors, Evil Colors" for which colors are used for what. It's used in almost everything from computer games to TV shows and comics. Superhero comics especially; It's how I figured out the twist of the movie "Unbreakable" within the first 10 minutes.

You can tell who the bad guy is when they first see him in the movie because he likes the color purple. Which, in only one case I can think of (The Hulk, and he wears purple pants because of old school printing issues) is ALWAYS a villain color.

The Derek/Ms Derek thing is basically Portrait of Ruin's gameplay gimmick. I really want Yahtzee's opinion on that particular rough gem.
Many elements of the plot remind me of The Mound, one of Lovecraft's collaborated stories that I read recently.
Regarding the pyramid head questions, you're correct that pyramid head was more likely a creation of James' mind, since all he actually says is they're there to punish him, but the question about when he first sees pyramid head was accurate. Silent Hill 2 was an incredibly flag-heavy game (irritatingly so), and the player is in fact required to see pyramid head on the other side of the bars outside the room with the corpse by the TV before seeing him in the room with the mannequins.

you can cheese the first level by standing under the one of jackbunny hole and shooting upwards, afterward you can kill all the bunnies below you.
You can kinda fuck off in Far Cry 4 too. If you just wait around on the mansion, the villain guy comes back and gives you a ride home or something like that.
