- While I enjoy all these Jeremy Brett videos here on TH-cam, too little honor is given to the greatest Moriarty ever seen on the screen, Eric Porter. One of the finest Shakespearean actors on the British stage, world famous for his Soames Forsyth in The Forsyth Saga, and a very nice human being - may he rest in peace.

And go buy all the Morecambe & Wise DVDs by the BBC, there are lots of treats in it - apart from the fact that Eric & Ernie were great, great fun!
Wow! I only know Eric Porter as Soames from reruns of The Forsyte Saga on PBS. I grew up in the US on the wonderful Carol Burnett in the 70s as a child, but these guys are amazing. I've been bingeing on clips of them because I saw the Beatles spot ("Hello, Bongo!") and then kept watching. I love how they got the comedy out of so many "serious" actors. I went to a show in NYC back in the 00s called The Play What I Wrote, and now I know where it comes from.

sad that Mr Porter did not was able to show his comical more during his career. No actor better than him has ever walked this earth. 💜💛

Eric Porter was a briliant actor in every way, he was utterly brilliant as Moriarty in the Sherlock Holes story The Final Problem, very menacing. I remember watching a Sherlock Holmes story Hands of a Murderer, Edward Woodward played Holmes John Hillerman (Magnum PI) and Anthony Andrews played Moriarty but in my view Eric Porter was Moriarty. Eric Porter was also in the Callan feature film
Yeah, a great actor and very nice man. I am very glad I could see him one stage once, playing Malvolio in Twelfth Hour.
