    The classic bright colored jig head with a minnow and about 5ish feet depth bobber with my two brothers we had a hell of walleye day

      Tough to beat watching bobbers drop!

    Caught my first ever walleye yesterday. FIshing from the shore in about 8-10' or water. Super fun fish to catch.

      That’s awesome! They are usually shallow this time of year.

    I love that you're using circle hooks. When I talk with Wisconsin anglers I bet maybe 1% are circle hook users. And It's still surprises me that they're not widely used around here

    • @calebwistad

      Yep. They are very underrated!

    The standup jighead and minnow never fails me. Even in the summertime when walleye are out feeding in the morning and it warms up so they start moving out deep, send a heavier stand up and minnow out there to get them before the bite turns off.

    We had late ice off in Saskatchewan this year. Went fishing last weekend and water temp was 47 F at surface in 5-10 feet. Never caught a walleye but caught a few pike.

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. Little cold yet. I like to see just over 50 for the walleyes to really start banging.

    I don't fish for walleye (Florida bank fisherman) but I enjoy your presentations. This was particularly good one with a ton of information. Thank you also for the advice you have given. Wish you a great year.

      Thank you! I was just in Florida a couple weeks ago doing some bank fishing. First time fishing freshwater down there. It was interesting. Caught gar, largemouth, tilapia and some nice bream.

      Good deal! We just crushed the fish today on jerk baits. Definitely was the deal. 4 walleyes and 20 smallmouth all on artificial. Once you get the confidence you can outfish live bait on many days.

    In the rivers I do good with rapala countdowns in sizes c7 and c9 in the two original colors black/gold and silver/gold. Also do really good with rapala shallow raps size sr7 in Bluegill color only. Other colors dont seem to work for me but that blue gill they just murder it and i dont jerk them like the countdowns, just steady retrieve for the shallow raps

    Theyre nailing deep dive husky jerks. Had a monster on last week at least 24in on 6lb test here in west Michigan. Didnt have a net and i was trying to bank him because im shore fishing and had to get around a bush that was next to a breakwall, line get caught up and he broke off. At least now i know they're there

    I heard another guy say on the lipless the first time he lifts his bait he gets more aggressive to let any fish in the area know it there and get them to investigate and the get shuttle just as you described.

    Why 15lb Braid ? Is not 10lb not enough ? Do you use 15 vs 10 for less wind knots ? What brand Braid do you like ? Thanks
    Nice video and tips !

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      10 is enough for many applications but if I can get away with 15 it’s better. I don’t lose as many baits to snags and I can get big fish in quickly so they dont tire too much before I release them.

    What do you recommend for a rocky bottom? Pretty good walleye spot where I live but the bottom is nothing but rock, not much structure or vegetation.

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rock is great for holding walleyes. That jerkbait method should work good early when they are shallow. Slip bobber rigs are great for snaggy rock areas too.

    Do you do a slower or is quicker retrieve better in spring and summer ?

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Typically the warmer the water, the quicker the retrieve. That’s a general rule but should be a good place to start.
