Haha well to be fair, hindsight is 20/20, this was before the DLC so people commenting to correct him and acting smart have the benefit of future knowledge he didn't have
@@OrphanCrippler1 And you do? I don't see you making lore videos. If you want to talk shit, get something REAL to talk about. If all you got is 'Oh, he found information other than in game, Rawr!', then that isn't an argument, you're just being a twat.
@@OrphanCrippler1 Alright, the lore video thing is a bit irrelevant, I admit. But why are you telling me to go to other peoples channels? I admit. I do like lore stuff, so I may go check some more out, but why is the first one you recommend a person who's bulk of vid time is his face? The reason I like Vaati's videos is the story like way he presents it, not the massive amount of lore and speculation thrown at me. So if you want to like another TH-camr, fine. If you like another one better, that is also fine. But don't disrespect the hard work that, all TH-camrs, not only Vaati, put in to the videos by throwing around petty 'Oh he doesn't know Shit, he got his information from Reddit.' Most people likely know that. Some people are better at finding the lore, Vaati can present it well. I hope you like this wall of text! Also, you're trying to bash a youtuber on a three year old vid. Not really a point, just putting that out there.
Espen Sales True, maybe once the beasthood transformation (sounds like according to the first npc in a window you can talk to is that it starts by cuts off limb control starting in the legs, so it could very well lead to total loss of movement causing what could very well be a near-death state if enough time progresses) starts it can render people into a near-death sort-of comatose state untile the person awakes as a beast/werewolf/moster/thing. IDK how to explain any of the other tranformations, or this one really, with certainty so your guess is as good as mine.
Possibly to keep beasts from eating corpses of loved ones. Can't imagine it would be nice to bury your family then see their mutilated remains on the street the next morning.
It's a shame that Bloodborne lore shut down so fast. This is the only lore hunt we got on the main game, and the "Things you Missed" series only had three episodes. :/
they will expand the series on Bloodborne 2 which is about to be announced. May be Sony and developers didnt know if the game was gonna sell well so a short lore was expected :)... but still... the lore is intriguing enough to be interesting and leave you wanting more =D, right?
I don't see the Cleric Beast being Ludwig, because otherwise he'd drop the Radiant Sword Hunter badge which gives you access his sword and rifle. I think he's passed on, and the beast we fight is actually the current captain since we only gain the Chief's Emblem, Kirk Hammer and repeating pistol from this fight, weapons of the church, but not Ludwig.
James Incap Someone mentioned above that there is apparently an enemy called "Forgotten Madman" that wields Ludwig's sword and rifle. If true (I'm not super far into the game so I don't know) then it's almost certainly Ludwig who eventually went mad.
HammerspaceCreature From trading with their amazing wheelchairs, of course. Have you seen how advanced those things are? Got miniguns attached and everything.
plus they have a system of currency, its just useless during the hunt since all the shops are closed down. and the fact that the healing church is so powerful and thus can produce lots and lots of healing blood would only IMPROVE Yarnham's economy, not diminish it. I mean, dude, its a concoction that cures almost any ailment, do you know how much money that shit would be worth on the global market?
HammerspaceCreature it probably did a long time ago; then some guys decided "lets drink blood from the great ones" & then "everybody should drink blood from the great ones!" & then shit got fucked - & random sick ppl around the world decided to try it out too; with no one telling them not too because everyone who's tried it is a beast or dead now. & Now their entire economy is based on hoping strangers stop by to try the blood to create more hunters to create more beasts to create more Kin of the Cosmos & to impregnate some ppl once in a while.
@@CountDoucheula it is, Miyazaki is a huge Beserk fan so I wouldn't be surprised if he used rape horse as a reference. Even the hunters mark resembles the mark of the sacrifice from beserk
@Sal this is just a theory but maybe Ludwig is the cleric beast in the real world but he is also a beast in the nightmare I know it doesn't make sense but it's not impossible think about the name Ludwig the accursed one I the 1st stage he is cursed in the nightmare maybe because of a deed or something that he did. Maybe the curse turns him into a beast along with Laurence they can't stay In Human form
A nice touch I like with the Blood Vials animation is it acts like an auto injector, used to administer medicine quickly, an example would be Epinephrine (Epi pens). It works by taking the safety cap off one side which enables the other side of the pen that's loaded with a one inch needle to become active or loaded. If you were to touch the loaded side the needle shoots out and injects the medication, and it's commonly used on the lateral (away from the mid line of the body) side of the thigh, were there's mostly muscle, which is what your character does every time they heal themselves with Blood Vials.
I thought you just smashed in your hand like the healing crystals in dark souls 2, maybe I'm just blind. But I never noticed any sort of needle attached to the blood vial though.
joseph clisham Whenever you see an Auto Injector at first it looks like there's no needle, and then you touch the loaded side and that's when the needle pops out and then injects the patient or in this case the user. Below is an image of an Epi Pen, the orange side is where the needle pops out and the blue cap is like the safety lock. consumeraffairs.global.ssl.fastly.net/files/news/epipen.jpg
joseph clisham To be honest though I thought the same until I panned my camera around and said, "Wait do that again! That's the same thing I gotta do to patients!" And then I proceeded to lose my shit.
joseph clisham You're forgetting about weapons like gattling guns, Pistols, shotguns and Rifles all without having to pour in gun powder and pack it down. Along with Magical abilities, Flamethrowers, and trick weapons and an arm cannon. Oh and a Stake driver which is basically the same thing. Only it's a Giant Stake instead of a 1 inch needle that works on a spring loaded device.
I think you missed something here: The Night of the Hunt is the night of a full moon. The Yharnamites you talk to early on refer to the hunt like it's something that's an inconvenience. They're not worried until it's night and the hunt isn't dying down. I think the scourge was so feared because every full moon, the afflicted grew hairier--except for the ones too far gone. They probably didn't change back and rampaged. Plus the full moon works with the classic werewolf lore and ties into the influence of the Moon Presence in the game.
I can't wait till you cover Micolash. He basically tells you everything, but in such a way that still leaves you guessing. Grant us eyes, Vaati! GRANT US EYES!
Vaati I've noticed alot of people saying that Gascoigne killed his wife. I don't think this to be true. When you enter the boss fight, Gascoigne is cutting into some Yharnamites. Probably beasts, not his wife. His wife is flung up on a carriage in the corner. Now we know from their younger daughter that Gascoigne's wife went out searching for him after he didn't come home when they expected him to. But where would she go to look for him? WE know that Gascoigne was over by the central Yharnam bridge, we can summon him to fight the cleric beast. But Viola doesn't know that, so where would she go to find Gascoigne? Perhaps she went to the chapel where likely they met when Gascoigne was a member of the church, but what she instead found there were wild Yharnemites who then killed her and just tossed her corpse onto that carriage. Then Gascoigne comes along after finishing up with the Cleric beast and finds the men brutalizing and murdering his wife, and he just snaps. The 1 light in his life that keeps him sane is snuffed out right before his eyes and he goes and slaughters the beasts. But the damage is done, he can't be sane anymore after that, because being sane means he has to remember his wife and child. He wants to just be a beast who hunts beasts for blood, which is what he becomes. We know that playing the music box hurts him because we're forcing him to think of Viola, something his mind can't cope with. TLDR; I don't believe Gacoigne killed his wife.
I agree. I believe that she was probably chased by the werewolf (who you see being chopped up when first fight gascoigne) so she runs up the stairs to get away, but the gate is locked. She ends up with her back against the railings with nowhere to run, then the werewolf does its lunging attack and knocks her through the railing and onto the roof/carriage thing.
That could be the case, but it makes much more dramatic sense for him to have killed her in his madness than for him to have found her dead and went mad because of it, mainly because he's meant to introduce the idea that hunters can go mad and turn on people and because the latter could have happened even if she had not forgotten the music box since it doesn't work on beasts anyway, which makes the music box thing kind of silly.
Its all debatable at the end of the day. You could be right. Or maybe we are all wrong. My version just makes me personally feel better, it sounds weird but everything in bloodborne is pretty morbid and depressing. It makes me feel better that he loved his wife so much that he would risk his own humanity. So in putting him down we send him to his wife and afterwards his daughter.
Thoughts on the transformation of the villagers: It seems to me that only the men transform and become beast-like. Take Gascoigne's wife for example. Her corpse is completely human compared to the beast-like bodies littering the graveyard around her. Even the wild and wonderful witches of Hemwick, and the bell ringers stay human (but seem to be murderously insane). I feel that there is something to this considering the number of female NPCs in the game that all retain their humanity and how towards the end of the game their... "anatomy" we'll say, plays an integral part in the plot line/lore. Of course, Vicar Amelia transforms and could squash the whole idea, but she is an exception being a member of the church and being directly exposed to the blood, or one would think. Another crazy theory: I believe the Lovecraftian Elder Gods need the women to remain as they are for incubation via the blood red moonlight (see: every normal woman's behavior shift during this time) so that they may become surrogates to the Gods.
NorwegianNoLife Iosefka will be gooooood... I still can't decide if what she's doing is good or evil, after 3 playthroughs. I'm specially interested in why she's interested in fighting a hunter...
MrBl4ckY There are two Iosefka's, one you meet at the start, and one after you reach Cathedral Ward. The second is listed as " fake Iosefka " in the ending, it also explains why you no longer get her blood after the fake transforms her into something else with her experiments.
DecoyBlackMage There are even physically two models present the same time. If you jump the fence next to the first executioner you get in and there is an unarmed Iosefka and an armed one in the room she will be later, but still passive until you beat Gascoine. You could say its not fair cause its a glitch but she changes drastically once you kill Gascoine.
Ahhh,Kos..or some say Kosm,, Did you hear about our prayer ? No, VaatiVidya will not abandon the lore.. No one can catch him! No one can stop him now! Aaahahahahaaaa.....
Your scripts are always so deep and philosophical, and the way you deliver the lines are amazing. Sometimes I can't even tell if what you are saying is reading from an item description or your own writings. Great job!
Don't hunt me please, I cannot stand the way you cleave. I'm playin' but you invade me so, I'm just gonna take some vials and go. Tainted blood, ohoooh, Tainted blood.
I appreciate your attention to detail, the sequence and pacing of your video, and that you support your lore ideas with in-game item descriptions and NPC dialogue. Keep doing what you do so well!
@@st.wvllxw7238 what's crazy is that you replied 5 years after his comment, and I watched this video for the first time the same day you wrote that comment. What are the odds?
When he talked about the lanterns I was like: "Why can't we have one of those lant-oh, right, we are supposed to kill the beasts, not keep them away from us.
Don't have a PS4 to play this gem, but watching your videos is the next best thing. Top quality narration and editing as always, Vaati. Keep up the awesome work.
I have to say, the quality of your editing just gets better and better Vaati. Something I noticed that was so simple, but at the very end when he was still talking, and you fade the screen moments before he finishes... feels so smooth. That transition was spot on, and I just really appreciate that effort and quality you put into these videos, so thank you for being so passionate about both the lore and the telling of it, and the way you display it to all the viewers. Great work, once again.
TheHappy_P0tat0 Perhaps, though i'm debating whether or not I should go through sequentially or by topic. There's something to be said for both..but we'll see!
I am awestruck at Miyazaki's brilliance in designing games. Never before have games come close to the beauty and depth of his creations. Graphics, gameplay and storytelling at it's highest point.
ive pretty much watched all your bloodborne videos in one day. found you on the edwad series by criken and now i just cant stop watching yours. the lore for dark souls and bloodborne have always been so difficult for me to patch together and understand and you just make it really easy so thanks im really enjoying it.
The narrative and presentation is incredibly immersive. This is my favorite game and these videos are such a just representation of the complexity and ambience you feel when playing the game. It's a great way to relive the night of the hunt from different perspectives.
Writing an essay on different depictions of religion in video games, your videos are helping me big time! The depth of this game is amazing, and the small details in the environment and item menus tell such an amazing story. Can't wait for more in this series ^^
Vaati the presentation of your videos just gets better and better man. This video actually sent chills down my spine. I don't have a PS4 so I'm experiencing this story through your videos. Absolutely amazing man.
Finally! I've spent 100+ hours on this game now, got the platinum trophy and turned every stone - still... So many questionmarks (And as always, I love it).
Well done man, there is just a sort way you approach your diction that makes your lore threads better than everyone else. Wish you made more but bloodborne is still very young so ill just have to wait.
Wow that was beutifully made. The slow pace really made it feel like you were telling a story and the editing/video (that must have taken forever to do) was probably some of the best ive seen for this game. Have my subscription and like good sir.
TheDropOutDragon I don't often LIKE videos, but when I do, it's nerdy Bloodborne lore from Vaati. 3/4 of this stuff went right over my head, and I am 1 boss short of finishing new game +.
James Houseman That's because you most likely aren't paying any attention to the game at all and just going through it and thinking "haha hardest game evuur so cool111!!!".
Na I just didn't realize Cleric Beast's true identity specifically. But even if people did miss out on story bits while they ran through the game, videos like these make it clear the Souls games are designed around their lore, not the other way around as someone might think their first runthrough.
I'm probably late, but I've watched your lore on Bloodborne sooo many times and everytime I find something new! I'm still playing the game and looking for it myself so I can really "live through the nightmare". All I want to say, is that YOUR channel is the best one out there for lore and all the other stuff, not just by the quality/quantity of the content but even by your approach to the game. Simply the best, and trust me, I've told all my friends - "If you really want to know the lore in depth, go to VaatiVidya." Thank you, for every single video!!!
I've always been under the impression that Gascogne did not kill his wife, but perhaps a beast killed his wife and him losing her was one of the main things that drove him to become a beast
VaatiVidya: You make GREAT WORK at telling the story and narrating stuff. you're top quality at what you do. I encourage you to keep doing great stuff. I love all the details that you bring to the table that most people miss. that gives it a LOT OF VALUE.
Really happy you started doing these, would be cool when you kinda complete the story and plot from actual gameplay to kinda delve into how this world was before the healing church and why was there a need for a lot of things, the student explorations of old labyrinths etc. Now I'm kinda sure that the item descriptions are limited to a certain level, but imo your explorations of lore and thought process was to me always kinda spot on. Can't wait to see if yet again we agree on a lot of lore points :)
I started watching ENB's Bloodborne videos, and i was itching to watch any lore about the game npcs, characters, etc. The first name that popped up in my head was your channel...and here I am watching this well narrated video. Thanks for uploading :).
Wow this community is moving super quick. It's only been a week or so and the first lore video is out. I hope it wont be exhausted too quick. Dark souls had way more years to be picked apart as a delicacy, but this is being devoured with great haste
F-uck GooglePlus I think mostly of dark souls 1, though. I doubt theres 100+ hours of lore for this, as this game handles it differently, from what i have seen
Josh Chislett Nononononononono. That's not how it works. This is part of the series. The series goes Demon souls, Darksouls 1 and Blood Bourne. Dark souls 2 is an off title not directly related to the series. Hell its not even made by the same team and director. This is not some one off thing this is part of the series just like how there's an elder scrolls series and then theres eso. ESO isn't elder scrolls 6 is a side game same way dark souls 2 is a side game and not part of the series.
you know even though i never really played the souls games i watched all of your lore videos, they were always so interesting. plus your voice adds to the solemn theme of the lore.
Amazing content! You make this one of a few channels that I've never grown sick of, or found a rushed, click and money grabbing video. All quality and honest (but niche) content. Just wanted to thank the work you put into these and congratulate you for your fine work!
great video. I love that these games leave you a bit of space to figure out what happened on your own. These lore videos really tie everything together very nicely though!
Dewittluke Ashen blood is pretty much the same except it transforms people into the beasts we find in old yharnam. We know this because the friendly guy in the central yharnam lamp says he has ashen blood and he is later transformed into one of the beasts found in old yharnam.
Dewittluke It was probably a different strain of the scourge, which I only say because of how different the beasts of Yharnam are. Perhaps Gilbert had the Ashen Blood Disease, which makes sense because the [standard] healing blood couldn't do anything. This is just assuming this scourge is an actual virus and not space magic.
Dewittluke I'm going to make a Lore Video soon explaining this. Basically there are different "strands" of blood that when ministered determines the type of "monster" you gain the properties of. There is the Church Hunters (Large Beasts), and the Choir (Kin) who leads them. The Hunters of the Dream (Echo Fiends). The School of Mensis (Silver Beasts). Castle Cainhurst (Vampires). The scourged civilians were a byproduct of the different organizations experimenting on them to test for any nasty effects. The Ashen Blood comes from Blood-Starved Beast, a Pthumerian that turned into a beast. Hence the Blood-Starved Beasts blood is pale. Your character originally had the blood of a Lycanthrope but was given blood of something else to cut it, and become a Hunter of the Hunter's Dream. Your new strand is likely from the Moon Presence itself, an "Echo Fiend" (Nightmare Great One). These are as nasty as you can get. Unlike the others, Echo Fiends will eat everything in sight. The Beggar tells you "You drink the blood of half the town, and now this! And you talk of beasts. You Hunters are the real killers". Upon death Djura says "Its you... You're the beast... Can't you see what you're doing? Its madness..." The catch is that when the Red Moon appears "The line between man and beast is blurred". Meaning everyone/everything is revealed for what they truly are. Rom' shrouds the Blood Moon and its full effect so you can't see the truth, that the Nightmare Great Ones are the cause of everything. The enemies say "Its all your fault!" because you have the blood of an Echo Fiend, and screams "Away! Away!" out of fear of the Echo Fiends whom will eat them. Losefka, like all other high ranking church members are Blue Aliens (Kin). Because you're an Echo Fiend she hides behind the door, as you'll likely gobble her up too. Hence, by killing the Blue Alien you gain a bottle of her blood. They make the enemies drop things and stuff to encourage us to kill them, to play the part of the Echo Fiend everyone fears.
I wonder if Yarnham was a much smaller, more quaint town. And the extravagant buildings and statues everywhere is all a testament to the commercial success of blood healing.
I often rewatch your videos and you said at 4:08 (ish) stuck out to me this time. Have you brought up the fact that the Cleric Beast isn't Ludwig (seeing as we fight him in the DLC) in a newer video?
Tbh me saying that was a scripting mistake, I really should have said more along the lines of 'he might be' since there was no direct evidence. Not quite sure where to amend it now. Plus I put annotations in that video like a week after I released it too
+VaatiVidya I suppose we'll just have to see if the Old Hunters get a Prepare to Cry video haha. Anyway, keep up the good work! it's nice to see a creator who is able to interact so quickly to a comment, especially one on an "older" video.
+Ultrahuntr Yeah, I thought that it was told in the DLC that the Cleric Beast is actually Laurence, and in the DLC he's on fire because it's a Nightmare....but I could be wrong.
+VaatiVidya Does that mean that the Cleric Beast is Laurence? But then again his skull is found in the Grand Cathedral...unless when you kill him his skull is retrieved by the church? But then what does it when you find the skull but haven't defeated the Cleric Beast first (Since the boss is optional)? So many questions >_
Jonnyboy77 The skull is only in the nightmare (Again, not positive) but I'm pretty sure that's what the item description says. I can check when I get home.
I've been waiting for a new Vaati lore video, I have been re watching your dark souls ones because they are so well put together. Keep up the good work.
Uh as far as I'm aware gascoigne did not kill his wife, her body is on the roof but he is carving up someone on the ground, this leads me to believe he stumbled upon some other hunters murdering his wife and he lost his shit.
PanicGiraffe :) I don't think so... Miyazaki is known for his love of flawed characters, for tragedy. The thing is that Gascoigne is losing himself (notice his teeth, the canines especially. also him cutting others for blood) When he hears the music box he briefly comes to his senses and realizes what he's done to his family but then loses himself again. Viola (the wife) did not have the music box to remind him of herself and their 2 daughters, thus, blindly and wildly, he killed her...
You should talk properly with Gascoigne's daughter. I can't quote her word for word, but it's very heavily implied that Gascoigne is already very close to beasthood and is regularly losing control. The purpose of the music box is to try to calm him down and help him remember who he is and his daugher says her mom was "silly" not to bring it with her. Implying that the need for the music box in Gascoigne's currency condition is pretty much a given, even to his daughter. Read the description, consider where his wife's corpse is located and how she ended up there and it seems clear that he lost control and killed her.
I think he definitely killed his wife. Think about what he says to you "youll be one of them sooner or later" it seems he is intent of killing everyone he encounters just to stop the plague from spreading, hence i think he murdered his own wife to spare her from the beast plague.
VaatiVidya Ones again the lore presentation is awesome, this is just amazing was holding up on searching for lore videos until you did one. Can't wait for more
i believe vilebloods are those who indulge in tainted blood that was discovered at byrgenwerth, the vilebloods he's referring to are an organization in cainhurst that indulge in tainted blood from their queen and as a result gain a very powerful bloodlust and the ability to see hidden aspects in blood of humans.
Adam .Clifton Yeah, I think Alfred said, many years ago, someone from Cainhurst traveled all the way to Byrgenwerth (As far as I can analyse Cainhurst and Byrgenwerth seem to be on the OPPOSITE sides of the entire Yharnam region.) and stole some blood, brought it back to Cainhurst and they became "Vampires"
I was hoping for this to be set in Lovecraft's "Dream World". I guess only time will tell. I love Lovecraft stories and Lovecraft loved that people expand his work creating new ones in the same universe. Nothing would be as amazing as a interpretation of Lovecraft's work by Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Vaati, I have a lore theory for you. It's about Gerhman and the Moon Presence. Just wanna see what your thoughts on it are. SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS for everyone else!! Ok, here I go...... Gerhman found and saved the Moon Presence as a newborn great one, he brought it to the hunters work shop, that's why you get an umbilical cord from there, its the Moon Presences. At the same time there was the ashen blood out break in old Yharnam, Gerhman, the leader of the freelance hunters at the time, led the charge against the unending scourge, however after sustaining a severe leg injury and out of blood he retreated to a safe distance inside a house that you could only enter by falling a few floors down to the door, this fall broke his leg. He hobbled upstairs and sat in a chair to rest in hopes his hunters blood would heal him and he fell asleep. Alas, the church abandoned the fight and set old Yharnam a blaze in an attempt to halt the new scourge. The smoke and flame claimed Gerhman as he slept. That is why you get the armor he wears when he fights you from there, minus the hat. The young great one however would not let Gerhman die as it spent the most time with him, enough to build a connection, and it needed a medium to influence. So, it created the Hunter's Dream, drew in and bound Gerhman to it so that Gerhman could organize and send out hunters under the Moon Presences influence. You do as it wanted you to and when you kill Gerhman it tries to bind you to the dream in Gerhman's stead, but since you consumed three third umbilical cords you had the surrogate potential to become a great one in any minute so it could not bind you. Feeling its creation and its cause to eliminate the other chaotic great ones threatened by you becoming a new great one, it tries to kill you. When you kill it the power of its blood triggers your transformation into a new great one. Since you were created in the hunters dream and, it is the safest place for you, you keep it sustained and the doll cares for you inside until you are strong enough to take on the role as the last free great one. Done. At least after so much research that is what I concluded to be the whole of it. The research involved item descript., lore provided by every medium the game gave, comparing screen shots, and finding and recording and reviewing hidden dialog, items, etc. It took three weekends of study to come up with that. Well, what do you think?
The Darkness A few problems with this, though. Gehrman was never a freelance hunter, it's the Healing Church who asked Gehrman to form the hunters to combat the scourge(this doesn't mean he was a member of the church, he just worked for them). That's why the workshop is below upper cathedral ward. The workshop was never his house, it was the base for all the hunters, so the whole leg breaking thing makes no sense, but I can agree with everything else.
Since beating the game, all I've been looking forward to is your take on the lore, Vaati. Super stoked to see your take on the late game areas and enemies! Most of all, I want to see your take on the Vilebloods.
No, I think the guy's being serious and YOU are the ones who need Google. Molotov Cocktails were named after the Soviet minister Vyacheslav Molotov, aka a real-world figure. So how did people come up with the term 'Molotov cocktail' in Bloodborneland? They just said "ay, here's an explodey bottle. Let's call it something related to fire and bottles. Molotov. Makes perfect sense." ? No. Somebody called Molotov must have existed, and the cocktails must have been named after him.
Vaatividya man I love how you make the connections in the lore through descriptions I would love to be able to Pick your brain about your first impressions but I guess I'll just have to wait on more videos.: /
yo vaati, if i may make a request. i think that a lore video on the three covenants of this game (the vilebloods, the executioners, and the hunter of hunters) and the way they work into each-other would be a really interesting thing to look into. as always, great video dude, stay awesome
I hope you make the "Lore hunting" so that those who haven't experienced BloodBorne can understand the universe and Lore (Which in the BloodBorne story explained vid i was understanding you pretty well) You're a good narrator haha
Anyone else think Bloodborne's story is waaayyy more confusing than any of the souls games. Like at least i had an idea of what was going on but for this one i'm 100% lost.
IethargicAnarchist I thought the same thing, though it does seem like a believable theory. The cleric beast does drop the Sword Hunter badge on its defeat. It's just one of the many things I missed lore wise on my first playthrough.
IethargicAnarchist Personally I think that the Forgotten Madman you run into in the Chalice Dungeons might be Ludwig, since he's using Ludwig's weapons and is even accompanied by a disciple of sorts (which seems natural for a leader in a church to have). I do think it's a believable and interesting theory though.
Ludwig might be the one hunter who has escaped. I mean we know what he was Gehrman's apprentice (only one we know about, actually) and what one of his apprentices "escaped" from the nightmare (that is why grave near which we can sometimes see the doll contains Old Hunter Bone).
Ludwig carried the badge to get through the gate, which was owned by the first hunter of the Church, which was Ludwig. The connection is clear, especially when killing him you get to purchase the item it was "guarding" or holding.
EmarCeeHW Wouldn't it make more sense for him to drop the Radiant Sword Hunter badge if he was Ludwig, though? As opposed to some generic hunter's badge, I mean.
Are you really sure that Gascoine killed his wife? I absolutely respect your theory, but he might have found her dead in the tomb. Maybe the guy he butchered when we met him killed her, and perhaps the death of his wife would be the last drop for him? Just a theory of course.
Really enjoyed it and will be very interested to see the later game lore videos and your take on the more Lovecraftian and outlandish aspects of the Bloodbonre universe.
So how long does a Hunt last? Has it never ended and just continues each night? Or are there times when no one hunts and the people of Yharnam go drink blood and worship the "Great One's"?
TheVargess Depends on a lot of things. This isn't like the lore of Dark Souls which hinges on alternate worlds, distorted time, etc. But it is a bit fuzzy as to what's real and what's not, and I'm interested to see what Vaati has to say on those matters. We could speculate, but you should wait for the next lore videos for a really good explanation. Or you could be impatient and get mad at us. Either way.
Dark Souls lore has nothing to do with alternate worlds. That whole concept is just there to explain the online features. If they got rid of all online play and Solaire's dialogue the lore would still make sense.
Vaati: "Ludwig became the Cleric Beast." Ludwig the Accursed/Holy Blade: "Am i a joke to you?" PS: I know this video was made a long time ago, but i couldn't resist...
So I've recently gotten near to the end of the game (I'm stuck on Gehrman) and have been avoiding your vid's to stay spoiler free and to try and draw my own conclusion on the events of the game. Having come back now and watched this vid I realise I've actually really missed your lore vids! Can't wait for more :)
ALL OF MY YES!!! :D These lore videos were always my favourite on this channel. People, items, enemies, places, events, relationships between all of the before? Doesn´t matter. It´s always worth watching if you can take the potential spoilers. Thanks Vaati. Stay awesome!
Ghosty Chives The body shape of the Cleric Beast fits Ludwig too: One bulky, muscular arm to wield a holy greatsword, one smaller arm to carry a rifle (Ludwigs Rifle, evidently)
Good stuff, nice little details that I missed like the survivor lanterns casting incense. Great linking together of scenes as well, though I feel this story is much more straightforward than the Souls ones, though some good stories are in there. I'll look forward to more of your videos as always, keep up the good work Vaati
Well, now we know that ludwig's transformation was even worse than the cleric beast.
I thought I wrote this note for a sec
To think Laurence had it slightly easier.

Notice how most coffins lying around are tightly chained shut, might the scourge take hold of someone even after death?
Espen Sales Maybe some local supersticion, maybe akin to how suspected vampires got slabs of rock shoved into their jaws postmortem IRL.
Well, that's a lot of chains to just be superstition...
Espen Sales
Playstation experience, mate. Look up "shadows die twice"
Dumdumshum shadow dies twice has as much chance to be another game than being a sequel to bloodborne .
It's probably Tenchu. I'm really sad but the chances of it being Bloodborne 2 are pretty low.
PandamanPandamanPandaman Tonight Gherman joins the hunt.
James Incap This is what I thought too. There is a lot more evidence that Ludwig has been gone for some time.
This is a good point, probably not Ludwig.
James Incap Yea I didn't really see how Ludwig and the Cleric Beast were linked, the evidence to that theory seems vague at best.
Another point is that if the beast was Ludwig, then more likely or not, the boss would be called 'Cleric Beast Ludwig.'
James Incap Someone mentioned above that there is apparently an enemy called "Forgotten Madman" that wields Ludwig's sword and rifle. If true (I'm not super far into the game so I don't know) then it's almost certainly Ludwig who eventually went mad.
I'm still waiting for the item description that explains how Yarnham ever had a functioning economy when the place is like 90% churches :p
HammerspaceCreature From trading with their amazing wheelchairs, of course.
Have you seen how advanced those things are? Got miniguns attached and everything.
And a monopoly on transforming weapons
plus they have a system of currency, its just useless during the hunt since all the shops are closed down.
and the fact that the healing church is so powerful and thus can produce lots and lots of healing blood would only IMPROVE Yarnham's economy, not diminish it. I mean, dude, its a concoction that cures almost any ailment, do you know how much money that shit would be worth on the global market?
HammerspaceCreature I have a feeling many normal houses and shops just LOOK like churches and cathedrals.
I was confused as to why you thought Ludwig was cleric beast and not the rape horse in Old Hunters DLC then I realized this was made before the DLC.
Rape horse sounds like a Berserk reference
@@CountDoucheula it is, Miyazaki is a huge Beserk fan so I wouldn't be surprised if he used rape horse as a reference. Even the hunters mark resembles the mark of the sacrifice from beserk
💀💀💀🤣🤣🤣 one of the best comments i’ve ever read
tbh i was confused when he didn’t mention the lords of cinder at the beginning of the video then i remembered this was before dark souls three
@Sal this is just a theory but maybe Ludwig is the cleric beast in the real world but he is also a beast in the nightmare I know it doesn't make sense but it's not impossible think about the name Ludwig the accursed one I the 1st stage he is cursed in the nightmare maybe because of a deed or something that he did.

But this game takes place in Victorian era.
joseph clisham You're forgetting about weapons like gattling guns, Pistols, shotguns and Rifles all without having to pour in gun powder and pack it down.
Rip
Instead of him just straight wrecking his wife.
That's a very good observation there and it makes sense.

Thoughts on the transformation of the villagers:
It seems to me that only the men transform and become beast-like.
Vicar Amelia.
That is all

MrBl4ckY There are two Iosefka's, one you meet at the start, and one after you reach Cathedral Ward.
The second is listed as " fake Iosefka " in the ending, it also explains why you no longer get her blood after the fake transforms her into something else with her experiments.
Do you even Bloodborne bro?

There are even physically two models present the same time. Henry Marckisotto
Unfortunately :/
great video. I love that these games leave you a bit of space to figure out what happened on your own. These lore videos really tie everything together very nicely though!
What about the ashen blood disease that preceeded the beast scourge?
Dewittluke I think you can see "ash" stuff floating out of bowls in the Labyrinth.
damn I wish I had the game so I could go look ;x But yeah there seem to be some ash floating in the lab
Your character originally had the blood of a Lycanthrope but was given
blood of something else to cut it, and become a Hunter of the Hunter's
Dream. Your new strand is likely from the Moon Presence itself, an "Echo
Fiend" (Nightmare Great One). Its madness..."
The catch is that when the Red Moon appears "The line between man and
beast is blurred".
Vaati delivers once again, I've been waiting for the Bloodborne Lore vids to start, and was not disappointed!
"Ludwig becomes the Cleric Beast"
Oof
I wonder if Yarnham was a much smaller, more quaint town. And the extravagant buildings and statues everywhere is all a testament to the commercial success of blood healing.
That's most likely how it was. Old Yharnam is original Yharnam but then they got rich
PanicGiraffe Hmm... this is a fair assumption.
I think he definitely killed his wife. Think about what he says to you "youll be one of them sooner or later" it seems he is intent of killing everyone he encounters just to stop the plague from spreading, hence i think he murdered his own wife to spare her from the beast plague.
The little girl says that her mother left without the music box that calmed him down... So maybe she found him and he went batshitcrazy on her
Dude that was a sick video. The atmosphere from the soundtrack and your tone of voice was perfect 👌
I always thought the cleric beast was a transformed church hunter.
+Kristoffer Kulju I realized this.
he is, however he is one of the higher ups, after all 'it is often the clerics who become the worst beasts'
Cleric beast would be transformed cleric I assumed lol
VaatiVidya Ones again the lore presentation is awesome, this is just amazing was holding up on searching for lore videos until you did one. Can't wait for more
Ok turns out Cleric Beast ain't Ludwig. But other than that, awesome video
Been waiting for your Bloodborne Lore to start and am so happy it did , please keep on Doing this man , you're simply the best at it
The blood wasn't naturally tainted. the executioners NPC Alfred says someone brought vileblood infection.
Phoenix Unity Well, as far as he says.
You trust a church zealot to admit they messed up?
i believe vilebloods are those who indulge in tainted blood that was discovered at byrgenwerth, the vilebloods he's referring to are an organization in cainhurst that indulge in tainted blood from their queen and as a result gain a very powerful bloodlust and the ability to see hidden aspects in blood of humans.
A very plausible theory. I quite like it. And well it seems like it.
If this is not trolling... wow.
Grant thyself eyes.
Belydrith Explain, I don't quite understand you what you mean. Do you mean my theory or the comments that followed?
The Darkness Could apply to both actually.
Cute story though. I cried.
Who is Molotov(from Molotov's cocktail) in the universe of Bloodborne?
You're not being serious correct
Molotov was the nickname of a powder keg hunter, they experimented with explosives. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Lol if hes serious he needs to go to school. Or at least use google daaaammmmmmn
DarkMatterTheory God of Fire.
Cleric Beast looks like Manus...
yo vaati, if i may make a request.
i think that a lore video on the three covenants of this game (the vilebloods, the executioners, and the hunter of hunters) and the way they work into each-other would be a really interesting thing to look into.
as always, great video dude, stay awesome
11 people became beasts.
It's all your fault though.
SZskits
LOL
SZskits we know whose fault this is....we know exactly who it is
Keep up the lore buddy, I always find your videos inspire me to push further into the depths of a souls game
Eileen sounds like evil morgz mum. so it's true that morgz mum is from another world
I hope you make the "Lore hunting" so that those who haven't experienced BloodBorne can understand the universe and Lore (Which in the BloodBorne story explained vid i was understanding you pretty well) You're a good narrator haha
Ludwig is the Cleric Beast? What evidence is there for this?
None
Vídeo before the DLC ....
Does me good to hear you tell lore again, can't wait for all the lore vids to come!
Anyone else think Bloodborne's story is waaayyy more confusing than any of the souls games. Like at least i had an idea of what was going on but for this one i'm 100% lost.
Ze-TopHat-Gamer you need to brush up on lovecraft horror storys to get the gist of it
michael liggett That and Norse myth. There is alot of that here. From what I can gather, this "Long Night" is Ragnarok. Sort of.
EpziWasHere though it takes a more lovecraftian tone especially with the true ending which I wont spoil
+epziwashere also with the object of the healing church worship and the source of the blood very lovecraftian
Here is the trick: think of the most ludicrous explanation for any given situation in the context of the story, and you will always have your answer.
Great lore video as always Vaati. I always catch something new from your videos that I missed or didn't put together myself. Can't wait for more!
The Cleric Beast was Ludwig? I don't really see that being the case, is it mentioned somewhere?
Loved that ending bit about just hunting beast because that's what they do. Well done video Vaati.
TheVargess Wait for Endgame lore bro:)
why should i wait for end game lore when what is what happens after the hunt?
because what you are asking is get answerd at the end of the game, buy a certian person. Did you completed the game?
Some really neat little ideas here, I love how you weave the bits of lore in these games, it's like sitting around a bonfire telling scary stories.
anybody still playing in 2022?

3:40 Oh little did you know, did we know. The Great Terror had yet to loom…
well the old hunters kinda fucked you up lol
I love going back to these old lore videos to compare everything we know now to what we thought when the game first came out
Vaati: "Ludwig became the Cleric Beast."
Ludwig the Accursed/Holy Blade:
"Am i a joke to you?"
PS: I know this video was made a long time ago, but i couldn't resist...
Hahahaha lul “Ludwig became the cleric beast”
ALL OF MY YES!!! :D
These lore videos were always my favourite on this channel.
People, items, enemies, places, events, relationships between all of the before?
Doesn´t matter. It´s always worth watching if you can take the potential spoilers.
Thanks Vaati. Stay awesome!
How did you connect the cleric beast and Ludwig. Is there an item description i missed.
Sillieranimal of the church
Dr. Plague Which was Ludwig
Ghosty Chives The body shape of the Cleric Beast fits Ludwig too: One bulky, muscular arm to wield a holy greatsword, one smaller arm to carry a rifle (Ludwigs Rifle, evidently)
Excellent deduction my friend
Meme Lord Excellent deduction my friend
Good stuff, nice little details that I missed like the survivor lanterns casting incense. Great linking together of scenes as well, though I feel this story is much more straightforward than the Souls ones, though some good stories are in there.
I'll look forward to more of your videos as always, keep up the good work Vaati
