Yep. It’s all jealousy. Cloud didn’t have souped up powers from Jenova cells or mako. That raw power was all his. Damaged Sephiroth’s “I’m a supreme being” ego that he had just gotten hours prior.
Even after Cloud beat his a- in Advent Children, and told him to stay in his lane, Sephiroth unconvincingly said he was more than that.
Isn’t Sephiroth dead until the events of North Crater?
@moment-of-glory the way I always saw it is that he's controlling the jenova corpse and those that hojo experimented on. That he's dominating the control jenova has over her body parts.

Pretty much everybody and their sister, except for Cloud himself lives in Cloud's head. He's been locked out of his own 'temple' for most of the franchise.
Fun fact, the reason why cloud was able to take Sephiroth by suprise was because he was wearing a pre emptive strike materia
That's still hilarious to me. They hinted at that in the very first flashback with it being equipped to the Buster sword.
And apparently he emptied some Strength Ups along the way the way he weilds a huge sword and lifts Sephiroth

@@Thecommander248Cloud was very strong for a normal boy, back when he fell from Mount Nibel he only scraped his knees while Tifa fell into a coma, he would have made SOLDIER easily if it wasn’t because of him lacking the mental fortitude and confidence
I just realised that Cloud doesnt just lift Sephiroth while being stabbed by a long ass sword, he literally grabs it and *pushes it in deeper* to get better leverage, thats crazy

You have to see the classic version of this scene in the PS1 version, Cloud definitely says dialogues very similar to what you said.

I know Cloud was ashamed that he didn’t make Soldier and was trying to hide from Tifa, but honestly this story I think is more impressive for Cloud than him pretending to be a Soldier.
what's so cool about cloud is his absurd willpower. overcoming mako poisoning, mentally rejecting being a sephiroth clone, etc. the tragedy of cloud is not only that he is a nobody trying to play Big Hero but also the hidden truth that the reverse is what is actually true. his impostor syndrome is so bad that he invents a fake persona that, in many ways, is actually less cool than he actually is.
He is soldier, his memory is foggy, but the mako infusement made him stronger, he is soldier

I’m saying, in Crisis Core he was ashamed to show his face to Tifa because he hadn’t made Soldier. But what he did to defeat Sephiroth is more impressive than him becoming Soldier. So I don’t understand why he didn’t just tell Tifa the real story in Remake….
I’ve never played the original game, but in Remake and Crisis Core he kept acting like he was embarrassed and ashamed.

@@nawab256 When you're as strong as these characters the difference between holding on and letting go would probably feel about as different as holding a book or not holding a book.
The reason Sephiroth goes so much out of his way to ruin Cloud’s life is because he was the only person to ever beat him and he fears ever fighting Cloud at his best. Shinra, the rest of the party, Zack, Aerith, and even the Planet itself don’t scare Sephiroth the same way Cloud at his best does.
Cloud didn't beat him, he just got hella lucky with all the events leading up to his flukey win.

Pre mako cloud survived a stab to his stomach, lifted up sepiroth, threw him across the room, and survived. “Not SOLDIER material”
It's not his strength that's the problem. It was his mental fortitude. Mako poisoning doesn't care how physically strong you are. In fact, Mako poisoning makes you even MORE physically strong.
Cloud's problem is that he can't keep his sense of self when undergoing to the Mako treatments. He's mentally weak because of his low self-esteem.

Huh, I guess just not showing any blood when a character gets impaled won’t fly anymore? The smokey effect reminds me a bit of the Whispers in “Remake”, but I know it’s most likely just a way to ensure this game didn’t get an “M” rating.
EDIT: For those who’ve never watched the original cutscene from “Crisis Core”, there isn’t any blood when Sephiroth or Cloud get impaled, and there also wasn’t any smoke-like effects on the wounds either.

I checked the original did not have blood. I prefer blood, nudity, and all that stuff but just want to clarify since this is a remaster. Ff16 however will have blood and a bunch of stuff
It's weird though because the ending still features blood, I think it's just Japanese censorship I guess
I thought the smoke effect was unique to the Masamune, like it was not actually cutting your body, but your soul. However, the same thing happens with the Buster Sword so I guess it's just censorship

A big chonk of his body was cut down horizontally by that thing that was a full force stab and the sword entered all of it and he doesn’t even bleed.

Well we can explain why Sephiroth doesn't let go. He's like Cloud was as a kid. Sephiroth believes everyone to be beneath him at this point. To let go of the sword would mean he has to accept that this nobody Shinra grunt just slid down the muramasa after impaling him only to then PHYSICALLY OVERPOWER him. Bear in mind at this point Sephiroth believes himself to be "Chosen" to rule the planet. So in his mind, why would the chosen one, the war hero, need to admit that someone, much less a nobody, is stronger than him? Keeping in mind he JUST beat the brakes off of Zach, a REAL SOLDIER only for this to happen mere minutes later
This was the beginning of Sephiroth's perpetual revenge arc against Cloud.
At this point this is already a tradition

I love this scene and else but how the heck did Cloud become heavier than Sephiroth in a single moment? It is really "impossible" to lift another human that has just been keeping you above ground with his sword. I haven't been this observant back in my childhood. This game will never be the same from this moment...

I have to be honest, I definitely don’t hate the voices, but I do agree the originals were better. The new ones sound just a little to soft and/or high pitched. Does anyone else prefer the older voices but is still alright with the new ones?
Only new voices that bother me are Zack’s and Sephiroth’s. Unfortunately those are two of the biggest characters lol but oh well. Everyone else sounds fine, and a few even sound better. Aerith is a massive improvement.
I'm glad Sephiroth is dead forever and definitely not coming back in a vengeance fueled rage in a few years.

Meanwhile base form Cloud beat superhuman form Sephiroth with sheer will and determination!!! I love the plot twist that its a huge David and Goliath match but Cloud was able to harm Sephiroth and prevented him from doing what he wanted.
"I, Sephiroth, the strongest SOLDIER of Shinra's special forces, got my ass kicked by an ordinary low level grunt. It didn't last but it still stings to this day. That is why I have devoted every single use of my spare time into making that low level grunt's life as miserable as possible."

I like to go back and forth between voice performances. Both the sephiroth yell cloud does is great. Was suprised clouds og sounds real good and deep rage sounding. Sephoroths "dont test me" such a good line both are good. But i will say the og of that line is better becase it had more umph to it, grutteral

I dont like that they took out Cloud's line to Sephiroth after he stabbed him in the back.

I hate it whrn people say Cloud couldn't save anyone this night. Nor could Zack that night, he failed to save anyone and got defeated. It's Cloud who literally saves everyone who survived that night by being the one to kill and defeat Sepiroth. Had he not, Sepiroth would've killed everyone as no one was stopping him. Why do people ignore that fact? Cloud saved Zack and everyone before Zack saved him.
Cloud never failed to make Soldier for physical weaknesses, it was mental instability that made him unsuitable for the Jenova experiment which is what Soldier really was at heart. Cloud was juat a kid, younger than Zack, hell even Zack was teaching Cloud so he could retake the assessment for Soldier. He his not injected with Zacks being, he does not inherit his skills, his skills are his own, his strength is his own magnified which is what leads hin to be able to go on and solo more powerful forms of Sepiroth, twice. But, he's literally a stone throws away from becoming a robed man until Tifa finds him in Midgar and the sight of Tifa alone was enough to pull Cloud back but his mass insecurity combined with PTSD let's him create a fiction to protect himself, a hybrid personality between him and Zack. Zack is not a cold hearted merc, nor is Cloud it is a shield. Remember it's been 5 years for Tifa but the last thing Cloud will remember is killing Sepiroth, to him that incident was pretty much a few days ago, his mom is dead, town destroyed, Tifa maybe dead and he wakes up to watch his best friend get murdered. You can't even begin to fathom how mentally destroyed Cloud is at this point. Between seeing Tifa and the fiction his mind creates it saves him from becoming a true puppet in that moment and lays the foundation for him to make the influence Sepiroth/Jenova has over him irrelevant, again thanks to Tifa.

Cloud s move doesn’t make sense - newton x meter > at the edge of the sword his weight works maximum, moving closer won’t make him able to lift Sephiroth. - They should have combined it with an accident on the bridge in the reactor, so that the sword stabs cloud but is also underneath the handrail of the bridge. Sepiroth is not able to lift him, because of the handrail behind him, but cloud can lift Sephiroth.
Really hope the 3rd game of the remake trilogy surpasses this!

They were afraid they could not show the head in Sephiroth's hand without the rest. Only if you are stuff like Marvel you can show shit like Thanos's head in movies that even kids can watch.
I think it has more to do with the fact that Square has plans for Jenova’s head in the future installments.

As much as I love this scene I feel Cloud being able to wield the Buster Sword and move like he does in the Remake/Advent Children prior to the experiments that were done on him takes away some of weight the original scene had.
I respectfully disagree. I think people forget that Cloud is the 'chosen one'. His story gets lost between Zack and Sephiroth but he was always stronger than both of them. Cloud physically killed Sephiroth (in this scene) and then mentally/spiritually kills him again (after the party defeats Safer Sephiroth). They don't necessarily explain why he's as powerful as he is, but pre Jenova cells Cloud kills Sephiroth and post Jenova cells Cloud kills God Sephiroth and his spiritual entity (one on one at that). I'm not saying its good writing, I'm just saying that Cloud was always more powerful.

After Zack died it seem liked he became so broken the next day he forgot all about him and himself instead his mind rewrote his own persona being Zack himself I not even sure if we ever knew what cloud was like least from what I have seen.

There’s nothing wrong with the voice actors, and the reason you think it’s worse than the Remake is because they’re following the same exact dialogue as the original PSP game. So of course they’re going to be hindered in some way.

I never get scared, I love horror games and still can’t ever get scared, but I was legit getting hairs on the back of my neck when Sephiroth was talking to Jenova. He’s much more eerie and creepy, and his voice comes off as natural and confident. Not forced and cartoony like he’s intentionally trying to squeeze his diaphragm.
Some may question why Sephiroth didn't just let go of his sword... but that was always his problem; his refusal to accept things. When it seemed he had inhuman, monstrous origins, he refused to accept it and instead decided to think of himself as his divine mother's "Chosen One" in his desperate bid to piece his shattered pride and self-confidence back together.
In the same vein, he doesn't let go of his sword even when lifted up because that would be admitting to the fact that this nobody, this random Shinra grunt side character, not only caught him by surprise with a backstab, but in doing so weakened him enough to be able to pull *this* stunt.
He rejects that reality, and thus makes himself incapable of simply letting the sword go and attacking a different, less "superior" manner. That complex was and always will be his downfall.

also sephiroth is based off of samurai. i'm no expert but I think it's seen as disgraceful for a Samurai to be disarmed... i think lol

I know some people think it’s ridiculous Cloud was able to do this, but i will never not love this scene. Even in the real world ordinary people have done insanely extraordinary feats in moments of crisis. Clouds home was destroyed, he lost his mom, he nearly lost the girl special to his heart. HE was PISSED, in that moment Sephiroth had no chance.

It’s kinda hilarious, cloud admired Sephiroth for so many years but he was a nobody to him yet this nobody did what armies couldn’t accomplish. The entire trajectory of the world’s destiny thrown off course by some small town bumpkin. That why sephiroth is obsessed with cloud. Because they’re no reason he should be able to do the things he can.
@thomascochran7907 YES! Someone who gets it. Cloud was already superhuman before being poisoned by mako. His past trauma and how he was treated taught him that he wasn't strong enough, yet when the world needed him most, he broke through his burdens to unleash his full strength on Sephiroth. His training paid off, it was always only his mind that was weak. Then Hojo made him stronger however his twisted experiments shattered Cloud's mind. A lot of people forget how long he was 100% unconscious while Zack is just hauling him around
It isn't ridiculous for 3 reasons. One, Sephiroth just had a fierce battle with Zack, two, Cloud had pre-emptive strike materia on the buster sword, three, Sephiroth was high on is own ego and enthralled with finding his "mother" Jenova--so he was distracted.

Cloud was always the strongest of them all. Even above Sephiroth. The Problem was his Head. He trought that he is weak and can't do anything at all.
When Zack first meet Cloud, Cloud has absolut zero Problems to keep up with Zack walking who is a Soilder first Class.
In the Scence where you go into the Nibelheim Mansion Cloud runs so fast that Zack can't keep up.
Here where he lost everything Cloud let's go. All he has in his Mind is to kill Sephiroth.
In the fake flashback, when you get into a battle Sephiroth can't even be hit by the dragon and Cloud gets one shot. The thing is, that was Zack not cloud and Sephiroth, although powerful, was not as powerful as Cloud's manipulated mind made him think. Sephiroth wanted to make Cloud think he was weak, even when Cloud thought he was SOLDIER, to keep him in line. Sephiroth not taking any hits from the dragon is the idealized version of Sephiroth Cloud had from all the legends. Sephiroth wanted him to get the Black Materia and join the reunion, like a good little puppet.
"Failed subject" my ass. He can kill another soldier with more jenova cells than himself. I can't wait till tifa finds out in part 3, that even though he was a grunt and not a first class soldier, he still was able to "kill" sephiroth and avenged the town!
Once and for all, Cloud was able to defeat Sephiroth here because. A: He had already gone a few rounds with Zack. B: He completely let down his guard obsessing over Jenova. C: Cloud was very, very mad, and the Buster sword follows E=MC2. It's still a complete mismatch, but that's why it rules when Cloud wins. The nobody defeats the legend.
The buster sword had pre-emptive strike. So that is why he didnt notice cloud until he got hit
It's a lot of different factors. This was Cloud's do-or-die moment. Like, people really be sleeping on how Cloud can even PICK UP AND SWING the buster sword, and HE HAS NO MAKO ENHANCEMENTS. He's certainly not as strong as Sephiroth, but in this moment, his rage at losing things precious to him sends Cloud over the edge into full adrenaline overdrive.
So many people downplay Cloud's pre-Hojo experiment days but the man was still a fucking monster. It's noted he always had impressive sword skills even as just a Shinra foot soldier. That doesn't make him special, though. He's a nobody who doesn't believe in his own strength to the point that even AFTER the hojo experiments which turned him into a full blown fucking super soldier he STILL believes he's not strong. This is the same guy that beat Sephiroth at the end of FF7. Hojo's experiment didn't "make" Cloud strong. It turned everything that was already inside cloud up to 11 (including his issues) and gave him even MORE power. Hell, Sephiroth became a nigh immortal God due to Jenova. It's the reason Sephiroth takes interest in him specifically. Whole armies couldn't do what Cloud did to Sephiroth in this moment.

Cloud is a most luckiest guy alive in final fantasy, Not only Rage literally help Cloud throw him off the cliff, Cloud is also lucky to kill alive sephiroth, Not only that, Sephiroth we know is already dead and he got nerfed so much but even dead sephiroth got nerfed, dead Sephiroth still manage to beat Cloud but Aierth, Tifa and Barret save Cloud just before dead Sephiroth about to kill Cloud, and Avalanche team beat Sephiroth, Cloud is lucky for second time at Remake, Cloud is lucky Sephiroth we know is just a haunting cloud, He lucky to be alive today!

The Og game ff7 Zack received a new materia from a shinra research lab the buster sword was pre emptive strike materia that raise the chance to backstab, It help Cloud who is weaker to stab Sephiroth in the back.
I knew about this materia in the buster sword, but where did you get the shinra research part from?
@@JechtNH If you play ff7 crisis core there will be Materia researcher Scientist there. Also in the Nibelheim flash back Zack(cloud in the flashback) was talking to Sephiroth he said "They gave me some new materia (the pre emptive strike), I can't wait to use it" Zack knows the materia researcher in crisis core it is likely they are the one that gave it to him in the ff7 og.
I don't know about the ff7 rebirth but it is not in the rebirth.

Crazy detail i just noticed is that cloud used his level 1 limit break in this sequence (the one you start ff7 with).
We have to have 100% closure on how Cloud managed to do this in the 3rd game. Where did his strength come from, how did he survive.

@@connordutton674 it's not for children. Me, as a child, looking forward to see "haha cool guys fight" wouldn't be excited by the story. It's definetely 14-16+ just by the way of storytelling
Times have changed. The FFVII Remakers even changed the trail of blood and President Shinra's death.
