- In this episode, I will laminate the Mahogany, Walnut, and bookmatched Flamed Maple together to form the body blank for this guitar. Don't forget to support my channel by purchasing a set of guitar and tool plans at www.eguitarplans.com/
I always have seen liberal amounts of glue applied to all pieces. You are the first I have seen with 'limited' or moderate amounts of glue. Thank you for the education.
Saving glue=saving horses.
@@HighlineGuitars is that the mane reason? 😁
I have been follow your channel for quite a while now. Thank you. One thing I do differently: when doing glue ups with pipe clamps, I will do 2 two clamps below the wood, and the one in the middle I will do above the wood - I was taught that this will help remove any bowing of the wood. Another quick note: my cnc is cutting my first neck right now (just practice on scrap wood). I already messed up, but am going to let it finish to see if there are any other issues.
I have clamped that way before. Unless you are cranking on those clamps and applying too much force, it doesn’t matter what side they are on.
Hooked...subscribed
Looking good. Do you think the proliferation of low cost veneer flame maple tops has reduced the desirability of flame maple tops? Flame maple tops used to be a sign of a high end guitar but the lines are getting blurred.
great point...I always thought the same about high end tops in the past.
For a small shop luthier, it is much easier and cheaper to use a thick, bookmatched top than it is to laminate a veneer and finish it correctly. That being said, slicing veneers is a more responsible way to make the most of a figured billet. I've noticed more thick burl tops lately which may be a response to veneers. Burl is harder to slice thin than figured Maple.
Do you sell CNC guitar plans?
No. I offer 2D plans in .pdf format which can be converted to .dxf on zamzar.com. The converted files can be used to make the 3D models for writing g-code.
@@HighlineGuitars Awesome. Thank you.
dont bother with the salt thing on the body?
You can if you want to, but it isn't as necessary as it is on a long and narrow fretboard.
