It's 17.3% in the 2021-22 academic year. I suspect that it's so low is because the university accepts below average students , so a lot of these students really are not academically fit for college or university, especially if they are coming from academically poor and extremely underperforming public school systems.

    • @EarlHall-zi4cm

It's 17.3% graduation rate as of the 2021-22 academic year. I suspect that the main reason the graduation rate is so low is because they accept under performing below average students, students who don't even make a 2.0 GPA in high school. .

There’s a misconception circulating about Langston University’s graduation rate being just 5%, but that’s misleading. After doing my research, I found that the actual graduation rate is 35%. People often misunderstand how transfer and retention rates impact this number. At Langston, only 5% of students graduate within a four-year period, but the majority finish in five or six years. The transfer rate also lowers the graduation percentage, as students often transfer due to financial challenges, environmental factors, health issues, or family responsibilities. College is hard, and I’m tired of people reducing Langston to a single flawed statistic without understanding the systemic challenges we face. Langston University is severely underfunded-receiving just $0.45 per federal dollar compared to Oklahoma State University’s $3.17. That’s seven times more funding for OSU, while Langston has been underfunded by $419 million for over three decades. This disparity, driven by systemic racism and inequitable funding practices, plays a significant role in the challenges our university and students face.

There is a change in the culture in America. I am a Black woman who was a teen in the 1970s. If you look at young people of all races from that era including Black girls it was unusual to see overweight young people. Speaking about my own experience my parents served balance meals at home. Fast food or Chinese food was a treat on pay day so twice a month. Portions were also smaller then. Coke was in 8 oz glass bottles. Juice was served in 4 oz juice glasses. We went to restaurants on special occasions like Father's day or Mother's day. I walked to school usually 2-5 blocks 5 days a week. I walked or rode my bike everywhere. When I hit puberty my mother had me fitted for a bra and girdle. I was taught it was vulgar for a woman to have a jiggly bosom or behind. I wore foundations so when I hit my late teens I had an hourglass figure. That was known as the soul sister figure back then. Women do not seem to wear foundations anymore. Foundations give you smooth curves and a flat stomach. My mother also taught me proper manners and how to behave in public. I was well aware I represented my parents. I knew not to embarrass my parents. I also attended charm school at a Sears department store. The school was for teenage girls. It was in an inner city Sears so all the girls in the class were Black teens.

As a Black college professor, I no longer support the idea of our young people going off to college. Greek organizations are waiting to colonize them, and we still have a 1st generation college student rate at 70% or more. The academic failure rate of students incentivised to pledge Greek life is heartbreaking, and the average student loan indebtedness amount, for an average college student today, is $50k. A lot of students are taking college classes while in high school and graduating with a bachelor's at the same time they receive their high school diplomas. I strongly support this and also working with high school students after their sophmore year with the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test, similar to the ASVAB administered in the military, that matches student's strengths with exact career titles, so there is no ambiguity concerning what their major should be.

The Meyers-Brigg is pseudoscience and has no place in college vetting. The ASVAB actually meaures critical skills but is far more appropriate for military placement. And I'll never understand the need to always be part of a club like Greek organizations. It's weak and means you can't stand on your own. Lastly no one should enter a university without completing a high school degree first. That means they're unprepared. I have a PhD btw.

BTW that whole delta sigma theta line that was recorded graduated in the year of 2023 please do your research!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm from the same era the 80s HBCU. I tell my son our women weren't looking like that back then and you all weren't trying to look like each other back then. My girlfriend was 5'3" 120. She was thick at 127. I could put her on my shoulders and let her watch the outdoor concert. The woman I dated in the 90s was 5'3" 132 but she was 29 not 22 and she was solid because she used to run track. I could still swoop her up and just run with her. These women are 5'4" 187-200+ saying they are thick. Talking about it is how you carry it. No the mass is the mass. That's a whole man wanting you to hold them.
I did some research and found the clothing industry had been vanity sizing. The woman I dated in 90s was a 7/8 dress. Today you have 160lb women claiming they are a size 8. Knowing mass is mass and needs somewhere to spread to stay thin, I did some research.
Turns out the clothing industry just moved the scale. A size 8 today is about 5-6 inches bigger than the size 8 of the 80's and early 90s. They figured if they change the scale it would motivate women to buy if they the felt good when they tried on a smaller size. In 1958 the smallest size for a woman was a 12. Now it's a double zero.

I stayed for 1.5 years before my parents pulled me out. "The culture" ruined everything for me there and I just ended up giving my money to a regular state college.
People saying I'm a "playa hater" because i didn't want to take part in sleeping with 9 different women and lying to them all about wanting a real relationship. Today it's the women being the playas, but back in the 90s the men were victimizing the women for sex hardcore. I hatred it.
The culture said that listening to OSTs, rock, or anything outside R&B and Rap was insane. But all the dudes I was around were music majors in the marching band.
The culture stated that speaking proper English was "talking white" but consuming TV with the same English was ok. Watching Bill Cosby be a doctor and speak properly was ok but not for anyone else.
The culture was to pretend that every White person in Oaklamoma secretly hates you so don't make any White friends and be aggressive with them in public.

I graduated from a HBCU in the late 90s, before the social media era. It wasn’t a party school either, which made it easier to focus. You did have some cultural issues, like many of the bad chicks dating the local and out of state d-boys. A few finessed these chicks to get them campus parking decals, so they could drive onto campus and flex. Then got salty when hustle Pookie pulled up and dropped off another chick on campus in her face, in his Lexus or Escalade.
But overrall I did love the experience. But going to an HBCU in the social media era, seems like a recipe for disaster, unless it’s an off the grid HBCU and you’re very mature for your age.

I’m 45 and working on dropping 20 pounds from pandemic and baby weight. My college senior stepdaughter went in a skinny size small. This is why they hate brothers that date out so much. Because if other BM see this and start to expand their options the bdubs will be completely shut out of the market. Being embarrassed by my family is what made me successful. Unfortunately, some people defend it. Always destined to be at the bottom.

BTW that whole delta sigma theta line that was recorded graduated in the year of 2023 please do your research!

Part of the PROBLEM IS the FOOD in the U.S. is JUNK full of ADDITIVES and UNHEALTHY PRESERVATIVES. As BLACK FOLKS we MUST WATCH what we eat and go the extra mile to maintain a well balanced physical health.

I can only speak for myself. I gained a lot of weight during menopause. I did an evaluation of everything I ate especially foods that had a lot of chemicals in them and food that were just unhealthy. Once I changed what I ate the weight loss started. I also got off some medications that slowed down my metabolism and started using more natural remedies. The last thing I did was I started doing water exercises. I was 410 lbs and now I am down to 250 lbs. I have another 80 lbs to lose. My advice is to evaluate your health while you are young so you don't have to make drastic changes when you get older.

I went to an hbcu in the late 90s and there were only a handful of big girls on campus and I never saw a big sorority girl.

According to US News and World Report, Langston had a 11% graduation rate within the standard four-year period of study in 2024, making it one of the least successful universities in the world.

An individual can be a success at the least successful schools. Blacks strived in America when the schools were worse than this.
