  • Help me celebrate episode 1 of the Long Story Short Podcast! Each episode let's explore formative films in my life and how they shaped my personality.
This week 1998's HBO Original Film Gia, starring Angelina Jolie. A gritty look at one of the world's first drug addicted supermodels of the 1980s.
We'll take a simultaneous look at Detroit in the 1980s where I grew up and the childhood that caused me to relate to bold female centric characters.
Next episode: The film Nomadland and being on the road after childhood. Like and subscribe for more!
Please share any feedback to help make this a successful project with topics or films you'd like to see!

You should check out, for an older movie, "The Children's Hour", with Audrey Hepburn and Shirley McClain! Came out in 61! Such a good movie and definitely"new" for the time period

Have you ever seen "If these Walls could Talk"? It's about 3 generations of women and abortion and just a really moving movie! I highly recommend it!

Kim, in one version of recording this video I talked about that movie at length. Yes, absolutely loved it along with Bound and so many other films. It helped me empathize with my Mom at a young age ❤

Maybe too personal, but was your mom Caucasian or African American? Just wanting to know you more...

Why am I just seeing your lovely comments 😢, There's nothing too personal. My Mom and my whole family are African American. I grew up in a very traditional black family in inner city Detroit. My mom was into Bonnie Raitt and read fantasy like Ursula K. Leguin so home was pretty bohemian compared to the wider community ❤

@@MovieJustin your mom sounds super cool! Thank you for answering my question...I didn't want to intrude, but I like getting to know you better! 🤗
