Just found this video. My Great Grandfather worked in Bodie in the 1880s. He was a carpenter. I have been there several times and encourage anyone who is interested in mining history or ghost towns to visit. This is just another great Jeff Williams video.
I'm not one to be "star struck" but saw Jeff on this day at Bodie. A bit bashful to tell him I love his TH-cam work. I should have. This is a great presentation of Bodie. Thank you Jeff.
My first time in Bodie was in the early 80s. You can't see everything in a day or two. It would take weeks to soak it all in. I'm much closer to it now so I'll be visiting again and again. Back when I went there in the 80s the road in from 395 was terrible. 7 miles of bad washboarded dirt road. Now it looks like they paved at least the entrance. How far does that pavement go? All the way to town? Thanks for the tour Jeff.
The paved road extends for 11.1 miles from 395, which is practically all the way to the main parking lot. Just measured it on Google. In 2008, we had to wait about a 1/2 hour for a herd of sheep to clear the road.
Another shout out for Jeff Williams! Another great Video! Your part historian ,archeologist, explorer, geologist, adventurist and one of the craziest people ive ever have come across. I dont mean anything negative about the crazy part. One day i hope to go in a digging adventure with u find some gold! Your a good soul Thanks again for the video and keep having fun
Good video Jeff. I haven't seen Bodie in close to 50 years. You left out of major piece of that towns history. You got in the part about them burying the women of ill repute outside the cemetery. It was so long ago I can't remember the specifics, but Bodie frequently got hit by diseases that would pass through the population, killing off hundreds and those very same women that were considered not good enough for the main part of the cemetery pretty much acted as nurses taking care of the stricken miners. There was one of them in particular, name I can't remember, that one of the particularly hard killer plagues one winter, went out and took care of literally hundreds of miners that couldn't take care of themselves. I found that rather interesting when I was there as a child that the same women who were looked down upon for their professions were the ones that would come to the miners aid when there was a major sickness going on, basically acting as nurses.
I'm amazed at your endurance. Bodie is over 8,000 feet above sea level. In the hills near Bodie, there are also obsidian outcrops that were used as tool stone sources for thousands of years.
@ 30:05 - Search: Find a grave Evelyn Myers Bodie Ca. An Indian was employed to cut a drainage ditch to carry off water due to melted snow. She leaned over the rail on the back porch as the Indian was delivering a downward blow with his pick. She lived an hour.
Jeff, I've explored Bodie twice in my life. I like to go trout fishing and camping around Bridgeport area. I gotta say, I learned more about the geology and history of Bodie in your 31 minute video than I ever did exploring it on my own. Thanks for the video.
Fun exploration of Bodie and energetic. The Movie clips are from 'Hell's Heroes' (1929) staring Charles Bickford who was in a whole boat-load of early Westerns, along with a bunch of other celluloid actors. Cheers, Mark * *
Giday, I'm an Aussie and was in Arizona not long ago, but never knew about you, Darn it! I loved the place and the people there, your a true asset to not only you tube but America. Keep on going, I'm spreading the word down here!
When I was growing up my dad . grand dad and I used to hunt sage hen in and around Bodie spent alot of my teen years on the Eaton Ranch in long Valley which is now pretty much gone. My Mom lived in mammoth when I was 3 to 6 years old no ski lift only a lumber yard, General store, post office and some pack stations and the village inn resturant. It was great then now its ruined, oh well times change kinda sad. enjoy you vidios learning alot Thanks.

Ask Jeff Williams Agin thank you for all that you and Slim do; by showing your videos to my grandson and giving him his own panning kit , some of the magic of being agrand father has returned.
Some time around 1963 or 64 a couple of friends of mine had wanted to spend the night there prior to it becoming a state park.We had ideas of sifting the dirt from under the floor boards of stores and saloons.Never made that trip but always had dreams of doing just that.Beautiful dreams when your young, never to be a reality. Can't thank you enough Jeff, you ;ve made me young again.God Bless Us All.

We visited Bodie a couple of years ago - it is a fascinating place. A place that is sort of frozen in time. Too bad you didn't make it to the mine, we didn't either and it would have been interesting to hear your commentary. Nicely done!
Lol, at the end of this great video Jeff says lets go to the cemetery and don't you know that great music starts playing from the good the bad and the ugly and Tuco shows up running in the cemetery. Jeff you out did yourself this time. Jeff is brilliant as usual.
Jeff, you were the shiney in this video !! Maybe my favorite video you've ever done !! I did notice that your 45 was not on your hip because of California. I know, I know. I lived there 32 years myself. Great history lesson as well !! So thanks !!
These historical videos make you wish you could have lived several lives, both back then and currently. So many really neat things to see and hear about.Really neat way of life for sure. Great stuff Jeff 👍👍
Another wonderful Video , you are doing things visiting places I wish I could have the opportunity . You sharing the rich culture of the old mines and old history of places and towns and your knowledge of geology to different areas is truly appreciated and remarkable . Thanks for one of the most historical info videos I've seen of yours yet. I was sorry to see it come to the end, Thank you for all the time and expense you but into your videos... The part where I was a bit disappointed was when you were looking into the window telling us what was inside and who ever was recording they put the camera but didn't take the time to record what was inside... But over all this is a very fine piece of work... Thanks again for all the hard work y'all put into your vlogs, they're very enjoyable... Be blessed... BBE...
Hey Jeff, thanks so much for the awesome tour of Bodie! Among other things, I learned what Electrum is, and I can only imagine how important wood would have been being as cold as it gets there. I'm curious if they also buried the Chinese miners and workers in the "Unmarked" cemetery as well, as that's what they did in the Idaho City cemetery. I would love to see some more ghost towns, and I'd love even more to be able to spend the night in one of those houses in Bodie, that would be sweet. Keep up the great videos. :)
Just started watching your channel recently, and I have to say that I really like watching your videos. Would love to live closer to these sites! Thank you
Jeff , You were not only a Kid in a Candy Store, but also a Kid at the Candy Factory when you were filming this at Bodie ! It looks like you were LOVING IT there at Bodie ! You should see if you could get Permission and go to the top pf the mine area for your Channel . Great Video ! Thank You !
I thought I saw Slim peeking out of the window of one of those old buildings, waiting to scare you. Its nice that they have tried to keep the town for people to see and visit. You must be in good shape doing all that running? Must be from running from trespassing them gold mines, Ha. Thank you Jeffery my good man.
Even though this video is 3 years old. This was a very interesting and informative show you’ve shared with us again. Like the way you went forward and back to the old days showing buildings then and now.
Jeff, this video is amazing my father-in-law is a big bodie historian huge collection plus tones of knowledge about it. But your video thought me so much more this was amazing to watch. The miller house is one we love so does he. He had donated for the chimney to be rebuilt ❤❤❤

I've been there several times. My brother and I like to explore that area. Not far at all is a working gold mine near Aurora, NV. Wild horses, but they are quite a ways out. Last time we met up with a big bear along that creek that runs out to the east. On a hilltop just before you get to Bodie coming in the back way, you go across a field of that black shiny glass-like rock. Small pieces, but it's all over---well, used to be anyway.
I was there in 1974..😀 it was too cool , there were all kinds of old artifacts, but back then no one took stuff . it still has quite a bit left 😀👍 I'm glad people haven't destroyed it ..
