Might want some fleece lined tights to make your dresses more comfortable in cold weather. I’m sure they are available in Europe. Have an amazing trip. I’m happy for your family to have this time.
Enjoy the trip! I went to Europe 9 years ago to also visit the Netherlands as that is where my mums parents were from. Such a beautiful place, and felt like I belonged. Saw both the houses my grandparents grew up in and even stayed at the hotel where my grandfather had worked.💕🇳🇱🌷
Fellow half-Dutch Aussie here, my dad's parents are also Dutch and I love visiting the Netherlands and connecting with my heritage! HAVE FUN in Europe, you deserve your break.
So sweet to see your excitement! How wonderful to be able to work hard ahead of time and then take a spacious break. Looove that you and Matt are so clear on protecting your vacation time from work or too much phone use. I hope you’re able to just drop in and enjoy each part of your trip!
I travelled to Japan last spring and I didn't touch my phone at all (only for maps and last minute research, but no social media) and it was the best decision ever. Totally recommended if you have the chance to do it during your trip. It just happened naturally when I got there. I was so happy living in the moment for once in my life I didn't feel the urge to escape from reality by diving into my socials. Plus I had a camera for my pics, so the temptation to reach for my phone was minimal. All those places in your itinerary are so aesthetically pleasing, I'm sure you'll love them. Enjoy your well deserved holiday!😊
For when you are in Belgium and the Netherlands, I would highly recommend one of the Uniqlo extra warm or ultrawarm heatech polo shirts to layer with. They have a lot of neutrals colours and will go with most of your dresses. Just got back from Texel in the Netherlands back to Germany and it is pretty cold. Have a lovely, well deserved holiday!
I am packing for a 6 months move to Rome so this video was actually SO helpful! Loved hearing the rationale behind all the pieces and also the book choices. Have a great time!
How exciting and have fun relaxing together! With packing and your linen skirt, roll it loosely and that way it won't crumple. I roll all my clothes when travelling and it works a treat!
I hope you have a wonderful trip! 6 weeks will be amazing and such a good recharge! Having lived in Europe though, do not underestimate the cold! It gets into your bones there and doesn't leave, even in autumn. Super jelly about the Christmas markets! 😊
Hello, Janelle. I just returned from Europe 2 weeks ago and have learned a few things about travelling long distances. Please do pack very lightly. I took a 20kg suitcase and it proved problematic when having to climb narrow stairs on high speed trains, climbing stairs to accommodation and when navigating regional train stations. 15kg or less would be much easier to manage. I also had a few changes of clothing, but realised I packed too much. You will probably find that 3 or 4 outfits will be more than adequate. Washing clothing whilst travelling is also quite costly if using a service laundry. I would budget on approximately 50 EUR to wash and dry 3 bottoms and 3 tops. Phew! Europe is a wonderful place to visit, but make sure you also have good ankle support for your feet as you will be doing a lot of walking. Have a wonderful time. I hope one day to catch up with you in Launceston ... I live in the North East Tas and think you are doing a fantastic job of running your channel. Take care.
Thanks so much Kerry! So far I’m very happy I decided to pack on the lighter side and luckily some of the places we are staying have laundry facilities because there is no way I would be paying 50 euros to wash my clothes 😳 It’s so nice to hear from a fellow Tasmanian x
There are restrictions on liquids when flying in europe each bottle has to be 100 ml or less and need to be in a clear bag for security to examine. You can decant into 100ml bottle and label it. Include perfume mascara creams lipstick. Bag has to be a certain size.
Did you know that "Europe" consists of 47 different countries? It makes me laugh when someone calls 47 countries as if they were one country. What country in Europe have you been to?🙃😉
This is so exciting. I am leaving the middle of November to go back home to Germany to spend the holidays with my parents. I always fly into Amsterdam and let me tell you that is one windy place. Then I take the train to get to my several destinations in Germany. I hope y'all have a wonderful time.
I recently mentioned to someone that I had to knit like a mad woman to get a project done in time to give as a gift. She was shocked into laughing because she'd never heard that before. I'm happy to see that Janelle thinks the same way!
Have the best time. Wish I was in your suitcase! Would stop off & see rellies in Netherlands then continue north for some delicious cold! Your coat reminds me of one I got in Oslo last time.
Have a great trip. I'm in Germany, you'll definitely need that new coat. Northern Europe is damp and cold in winter. It won't stop you having a lovely holiday, but be prepared 😉
It is so nice to follow your travel prep! Enjoy your trip to Europe Janelle! I went to the Netherlands for the first time two years ago and it was such a welcoming and cosy place to be!
I had no idea you were half dutch! That is so cool! As a dutchy I'm now very curious where your grandparents were from, maybe I can give you some extra tips about the area. Also, I love that you still wear dresses eventhough the weather is getting colder, I never really know how to do that! I'd looove a video on how you would dress for winter to get some inspiration (when you get back ofcourse, so good to take those weeks off!) Enjoy your trip together ❤️ and if you need anything when in the Netherlands, shoot me a message! :)
This is very exciting for you and Matt, Janelle. I would have packed your corduroy clothing. It would have been the perfect material to take away with you. Safe travelling and have a fabulous time.🥰
I just love Rick Steve’s dorky dad vibes- he’s the best! Feels funny to stay it but I really do feel like I was raised in “simpler times” even though I’m only in my mid thirties 😆Enjoy all the special moments in your unplugged time!
You and I have the same reading strategy. I read The Wizard of Oz while in Kansas. Thankfully it's a quick read for me, just 4 days. I also read The Help when we were in The South (Arkansas and Texas). I would love to visit where dad's family are from. He was born in Germany but his mum is half Czech and the rest Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish. My grandfather was a Russian Jew from Kazakhstan.
If you love books that focus around a building, you can also try(if you have not already) Kate Morton's "The Clockmaker's daughter". Beautifully written :) I very much enjoyed it.
Your holiday plans sounds amazing! Hope you have a lovely trip, lots of amazing food & WELL DONE for making it an actual holiday, please don't apologise for that!!
I hope you will enjoy your trip to Europe and welcome to the Netherlands! I don't know when and where you will be going here, but make sure - when it is before 5 december - to look for Sinterklaas, before you try and find Christmas markets (not a lot here, I think). Have lots of fun and save travels
Oooh do tell us how you find the two books once you’ve read them. Scaffolding is literally sitting on my book shelf because I bought it weeks ago, but it’s hard over and difficult to take when I’m commuting every day. I went to a talk with Lauren Elkin at the London Library and she is amazing! She has written a book called Flaneuse: Women walk the city in Paris, New York, Tokyo, Venice, and London and I think it would be perfect for you to pick up at Shakespeare & Co. in Paris. They might even have a signed copy because she did a talk there a couple months ago but for Scaffolding. Also if you enjoy Scaffolding, I also recommend anything by Rachel Culk.
Good for you! It's so important to make time for yourself when you're self employed and you work...kind of all the time.. I will of course be bummed to not see any Europe content, but I'm so delighted for you. What a great trip it'll be and just for you and your husband.👏👏🎉
Have a lovely time Janelle! So special that you are coming to the Netherlands, i’m from there.🙂 If you need any tips, you can always ask as me! If you are looking for thrift stores, they are called ‘Kringloop’ or ‘Kringloopwinkel’ in the Netherlands. It’s also a fun way to see some older dutch products. Have fun sweetheart!😘
I enjoyed your video very much. Travel is such a wonderful experience and I’m sure you’re going to enjoy it immensely. I’ve already spotted your Italy photo on Insta. Happy travels!
Goede reis en alvast welkom in Nederland ;-) Can't wait to see which places you will be visiting. Don't forget to visit the Dutch islands, as they are stunning. If you need any tips & trics, just give me shout, I'd be happy to help.
Lovely choices; it will be cold so you might want to add another long sleeve top, and or sweater for layering. The pinafore is I’ll be perfect - do you have one you can swap out for one of the short-sleeve dresses? I’m excited for you! Have a great trip 😎
It's not that cold yet, at least not where I live here in Germany. It's really rainy and the nights and early mornings are a bit chilly, but nothing below 0°C 😅
They all look like good choices! Some recommendations for you, hope you get to see these. 1) if you need a book while you're in Paris, try Shakespeare's - its right by NotreDame so you shouldn't have any issues in finding it, but it is an English bookshop (although a bit of a tourist trap). 2) If you will be in the Netherlands for 5th December then you'll get to experience Sinterklaas! It's the feast of St. Nicholas, sounds religious (but isn't, really), and there's tons of food and traditions associated with it. Hope you get to experience that, my husband is Dutch and I regard the Netherlands as my 'second home'. *Many* people in NL speak English, I only ever ran into one person who didn't and who was in the hospitality industry, so you should be fine in that aspect. Regardless, I hope you have a wonderful wonderful time travelling around, I already follow you on instagram so have been seeing some of your great photos of Rome and pasta! Happy holidays!
Just got back from Switzerland/Italy/Paris last week. Shakespeare and Co is the best! They sell English books and this was a popular hang out for famous writers in the past. Then take your new books for an hour or two in Luxembourg Gardens. Bliss.
I hope you do another embroidery trip moments thing - just take a little sketchbook and color pencils for the ideas and when you have time do the embroidery later. 🥰
ig you're finishing up in NL in late November.. it will be VERY wet, and possibly quite cold. I'm up in the North (Groningen) and from October to arch, we just live in damp rainy land! 🤣 Have an amazing trip! Edited to add: if you are in the north Netherlands in mid December, one of the best experiences is WinterWelVart in Groningen. The boats on the main canal, markets, glue wine and all sorts. A real experience, it runs 13-14-15th December this year!
How exciting for you. I'll be with you in spirit since I cannot travel. Thanks for all your work making sure we still can view videos to view in your absence. Will you be cross stitching? A nice small creative project to travel with you. Yes, no social media for you dear! You've had enough of it for years. Have blessed and beautiful travels!!!
Bon voyage, have a wonderful, beautiful trip - definitely don't do any vlogging/work/comments, you work so hard, and you deserve total rest and recharge time. So kind of you to prepare content in advance too, wow, we are a lucky audience :)) enjoy the weather, it is getting cooler by the day in this part of the world :))💕⭐

Ahh I love that so much! A few of my cousins have been and said they instantly felt at home too so I’m excited to see if I feel the same 😄
Hope you are having a very well deserved break. Great and beautiful countries to visit. I think you will also get a flavour of a European Christmas.❤

Buy a coat at the op shops if you need and you can redonate before you come home!! Works a treat and you don't have to pack one. Enjoy your trip!

I would also bring a pair of flip flops for showers😊
Have an amazing time away safe journey 😊😊😊
Heel veel plezier, geniet ervan! (have fun, enjoy)
Enjoy your trip. I’m also half Dutch (Mums side)❤❤
Enjoy your well earned break ❤
Perhaps when you're back, you could do a video of a copycat Farm Rio skirt or dress?
Bon voyage, have a wonderful, beautiful trip - definitely don't do any vlogging/work/comments, you work so hard, and you deserve total rest and recharge time. Oooooh, I did not know you are a Dutch Aussie :-). I am Dutch and I am very curious where you went in the Netherlands, what your thought are etc.!
Enjoy and your gonna be wearing that coat a lot!!!
As much as I love a physical book, I would absolutely take advantage of Kindle for a long trip with big books.
Maybe warm water and not hanging to dry might help shrink the sweater 🤔
Iam Dutch too. I live in Tilburg. There are two big fabric stores. My mother aunt and uncle emigrated to Australië. She has a cousin over there. Where do you go in the Netherlands? 4:25

Hope you have a fantastic holiday. Hope across the english channel and pop in for a cuppa 😂
Will you be documenting your trip with another cross stitch project?
I’m hoping to yes! I’ve been making little designs for each day and will stitch them once I’m home 😊
@@RoseryApparel I just love that idea! What is the app that you use to create the designs? I went on a Danube River cruise with my daughter this past summer and would love to document our trip in that way.
Seriously, don’t take anything you need to iron.
So I did end up taking the linen skirt and so far so good! It hasn’t needed an iron 😅 My biggest hack is hanging clothes that are a little creased in the bathroom while I shower and the steam sorts them right out 👌🏻
I hope you enjoy your trip. I’m disapointed you are not going to vlog while you are away but I can understand your reasons.
