    Woo hoo! That bike looks great! I'm really interested to see how the Mrs. and you like it. Thanks for the shout out as well! I've had to tighten up some bolts on mine, specifically the top triple pinch bolts, the handlebars (but you're not using stock ones so does not apply) and some fairing bolts. I ride mine on the street so I went to 16/44 gearing from the stock 15/45. Love it on the street, maybe a bit tall for the track. As for wheels - my buddy Aaron put on BST carbon fiber and my bike in comparison feels like it has flat tires. They are worth seconds on the track for sure. Lots of money though.

    Nice! It was fun to see the suspension valving, not having every disassembled one myself. I would have liked to seen the replacement. I guess the dials/knobs on top allow for opening and closing the valving below, yes? Lucky you, having a wife who loves to ride ... her own bike, too! Cheers!

    • @CanyonChasers
      @CanyonChasers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was very disappointed with myself that I didn't get any good shots of the new internals. And yes. The big knob on top adjust fork preload, and the small screw in the center adjusts tension on a stack of thin shims, called a valve, to control the rate of oil flow - damping.

    • @wernerxldata
      @wernerxldata 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CanyonChasers You're sure they adjust tension of the shim stack ? In most forks I know the clickers are bleeders, so a bypass of the shim stack. Having knobs isn't the only type of adjustment by the way. Changing of or replacing the shim stacks are the real modification option, that really changes the character of the damping.
      The original forks can probably be changed that way. And you can of course add or remove oil to change the size of the air chamber, that also acts like some kind of spring, real good option to prevent excessive diving. Preload can't be adjusted from the outside but you can add preload rings to the original springs, watch out not to over do, if you need to much preload you should probably replace the spring.
      About the shock preload, better measure the static and rider sag instead of just extending it 13mm without load. It's about the geometrics of the bike with the rider and gear on top. So it's different for different riders.
      Beautifull bike by the way ♥

    Stoked to see this build and love your videos, they’ve really helped me progress as a street rider-and now track rider.
    As soon as it’s available I plan to pick up a new 2022 RC 390 for track + race only purpose. With so many people looking down at the RCs I’m happy to see it getting some love, esp for track specific use. Will be interested to hear how it performs and what your/lady CC’s take is after a few trackdays!
    Where do you recommend purchasing bodywork? With the redesigned 2022, do you still think bodywork is a top build priority (belly pan not withstanding)?

    Bike looks great! When I had my 390, I ended up getting a good deal on a set of Marchesini forged wheels and the weight difference was staggering. Unfortunately I sold those around when I sold the bike. I just did a track day on the 2022 390 and those wheels are significantly lighter than the original 390 wheels though I don't know if they'd fit the earlier 390s but that might be a less expensive alternative to forged wheels if you decide to go that route.

    • @CanyonChasers
      @CanyonChasers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, sadly the new wheels don't fit on the old bike. I was floored by the improvement light wheels made on the 848. I honestly can't imagine the difference on a small displacement bike.

    what's the problem with frame sliders? I'm about to get crash bars for my Duke 390 just because it looks like they would protect better

    • @CanyonChasers
      @CanyonChasers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What tends to happen is they will snag either in soft dirt or on solid objects and tear and flip the bike. I've seen them tear frames apart and a relatively minor low-side turn into a tumble where both sides of the bike get damaged. The big wrap around bars seem to really be the worst. Sliders on the swingarm tend to catch and twist the swingarm - where wihtout a slider there would have been no damage.
      It's one thing if the goal is to protect from a tip over or a drop - frame sliders can work well in that situation, but falls at speed -- I'd rather not have them, honestly. But you know the addage; tell me what kind of crash you are going to have and I'll tell you the kind of protection you need.
