Thanks so much for posting this,I never would have found that last little pin to depress on the shaft behind the handle to get that last half inch under the hood to get the cable in and out.Aloha,Mark

"I'm abou-da pound it out!" Careful there buddy.....careful.....there might be little kids present.
My 88 is IDENTICAL to your rig, except mine has the dried blood red interior. And this cable just snapped about 3 days ago while out on the town. We were sightseeing all the masked TV watchers. Gotta get a laugh in while you can! (However horrific the horror film we are living in actually is, of course)
Just bought the new cable (part # 46410-35340) from the stealer (been a while since I've had to do this - but no one else had it for less than $89. You can find it for about $62 online from a stealer, but those stealers were all far enough away that the shipping was going to be cost prohibitive fo sho. Your video helped me understand out to remove the top end of the cable from the end of the brake pull - so I am super happy you posted this back in more sane times, in 2015. Thank you so much sir!

Thanks for this video. Who knows how long it would have taken and what I might have ruined trying to figure out how to get the old cable out. I could not find it in the FSM.

Do you have a part number for the Cable? all I am finding are OEM toyota cables and i dont want to work with the dealer on this. Looks like you have a BrakeBest Cable. That's Oreilly right?

+Robert Moore Sorry i usually put the part number in the video, i guess i made the mistake of not doing it in this one. i did this so long ago i dont remember where i bought it from. It would stand to figure it is an oreilly part as break best is usually sold by them. my appologies im not able to help

I know you probably already replaced the cable now that it's a half decade after the fact, but in case anyone else needs help on this - the part number for this cable fitting my 1988 4runner DLX 4x4 is 46410-35340 and I highly suggest you do not go aftermarket on this part. I will likely say the same for every car or truck part bumper to bumper, but don't screw around with aftermarket parts on brake systems UNLESS you absolutely KNOW that you can count on it. I, too, do not enjoy visiting with the stealer, so I get it. But don't do it unless you are certain.
I did aftermarket motor mounts on my e39 540iTs (I have two) but they are BETTER than BMW OEM and they cost way more. Also on this 4runner many people delete the LSPV toward the back on the truck and install a Wilwood proportioning valve in its stead - and there are several ways to do this. Make sure you READ for days before ever committing to a specific resolution in car repair or modification. That's what I know so far and I'm still learning always. Cheers!
