Thanks very much Scotty, great reaction! Both concerts in Japan, arranged by her dad and YOYOKA were 2 1/2 hours long with YOYOKA going continuously while other musicians swapped in and out. She is also a very gracious host, and there to make her musical friends shine.

She's fantastic!!. A great performance all around. As an old school DP fan (not young, lol), I appreciate this and I know Paicey would be proud. May her music dreams come true.😊

Thanks for your reaction and comments. YOYOKA is the real deal. IMHO when all is said and done, she will be remembered as one of the GOATs. Any genre, any setting, with any musician, using any kit...always in pocket and complementary to make the song as good, if not better than the original. BTW, she just announced an endorsement contract with Ludwig drums. It's a huge loss for Pearl and a massive gain for Ludwig. Cheers!

Yoyoka has really turned her musical endeavors up another notch. She is really hard at doing what a lot of people in the music industry end up hating. Van Morrison said in an interview that there are a lot of outstanding musicians around the world, but not all musicians want to travel.
Yoyoka is currently in several bands and beginning to travel beyond her home state.
She has just finished playing a gig in Texas.
There is nothing she has to prove to anyone regarding her skill set or stage presence, or her ability to play with anyone.
Sooner or later, probably sooner in her case, she will find a gig of some type which will turn into something permenant or semi-permenant. If she keeps playing with bands in LA, there is a good chance she will be picked up by a band in need of a drummer. Or she could be with a band which gets picked up by a club and turned into a house band.
As hard as she is showcasing herself, something is going to happen.

Thanks Rob Yule! Always with a good choice. Great reaction Scotty! You don't need to worry about her showing up to a gig and people wondering if she is the drummer or not. She has a T-Shirt that says "I'm Not With The Drummer, I Am The Drummer"...lol Rob is one of YOYOKA's biggest fans. He flew all the way from Canada to Las Vegas, where I live, just to see her live. He stayed with me and we attended her performance at the Japanese Festival. I had seen her live here twice before that. We got to speak with YOYOKA for quite some time, so a good time was had by all.

I'm honestly surprise Yoyoka isn't on the speed dial of a bunch of record producers. She's easy to work with, can learn a part in very short order, and nail it in one take. But she is still very young, and she's enjoying her journey by all accounts, so we have the fun of watching her career develop 🙂
Oh yes, and she's played, and killed, Lead Boots in the presence of Narada Michael Walden. That's about the pinnacle of anyone's career, I'd imagine haha.

She needs to get in touch with legendary studio drummer Deane Ogden. He would get her the connections she needs.

@@ThePallidor Exactly. I also had in mind Andy Newmark. He's played with literally every major pop and rock act in existence from the 70s onwards. He came to Bermuda with a three-piece fronted by Nils Lofgren, and I experienced some of the tightest playing of all time, with kick hits that went through my soul and destroyed everything in their path lol.
I then met him a couple of decades later at a mutual friend's house and found out that, at the time, he was "managing the chair" of the drum kit for The Lion King production on London's West End. He'd allow his most promising and advanced students to sit in and gain experience in the real world through that. He's also a truly great and humble person, in my limited experience meeting him.

I don’t know how close her playing is to the original, but it doesn’t matter. Her drumming is not only awesome, but she always supports the song and the band’s performance in the best way possible. Simply an instinctive drummer. 👍😎

What a band. What a drummer. I saw Deep Purple do this in 1972. Thanks for bringing those neurons back to life. Yoyoka’s maturity is amazing.

Well I'll kick things off. Thanks Rob Y for this reaction. Those Japan gigs are always a real treat. Was it yourself who mentioned on another channel that she had memorised 40 numbers for the tour? When it comes to coming in cold for a jam then I guess the Whisky a Go Go gigs fit that bill. Adam Versus makes it clear enough that the musicians have no more than an hour to learn new numbers and have no sound check or rehearsal. That has to be challenging. R and R Relic I'm also a relic and enjoy your enthusiasm. Thanks

Yes, it was around 40. Some were clearly previous covers done but still needed refreshing. I have requested Scotty do her recent Burn at Whisky with Paulie Z .

The "Drum Slayer" as icall her is one of tge best drumers ive ever heard!! Pound for Pound the best ever! 😅😊

      @tarmaque 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

She's generally known as "Pocket Monster" ("Pokemon" in Japanese) and "The Hokkaido Hammer." I also like "The Atomic Clock" because she's always on time. Pound for Pound she probably _is_ the best drummer out there, but Senri Kawaguchi is only barely bigger than Yoyoka is and is probably as good. However Senri is almost exclusively jazz oriented and in her late 20's. She has her own band (The Jazz Avengers) and Yoyoka has covered one of her songs and considers her a roll model.

Love Yoyoka, she is a great pocket drummer. If you'd like to try something a little more over the top, might I suggest another Japanese female drummer by the name of Junna. I like to think of Junna as the reincarnation of Keith Moon after too many Red Bulls. Try her cover of DragonForce's "Through the Fire and Flames"
