    Great content. The cable holders on the side of the mount have zip tie slots in them to allow you to capture the cable so it doesn't come out on its own.

    For safety reasons, it's best to install the motor onto the mount before installing the lift assist spring. A less handy person could get injured. When you install the motor on the mount, you should use Loc-Tite on the two large hex head screws. Those can come loose and cause problems with deploy not locking down. When you add zip ties on your cables, use the slots in the cable retainers for your zip ties to hold everything down. I highly recommend a Bob's Machine prop nut so you don't have to carry a ratchet in the boat. You should periodically remove the prop and check for line wrapped on the shaft which could damage the seal.
    Don't forget to do the compass and bow offset calibrations so navigation and anchor can be precise. The rubber foot comes off the support bar easily so glue that on with silicone or whatever you have handy. Make sure you watch other videos that show how to configure the buttons and stow position.

      John thanks for the comments any info always handy to know. Last week I've had couple customers had problem when installing motor to bracket because trailer in way couldn't install when bracket was in down position. When they took out to use bracket wouldn't lock. So you have install with motor in the down position so lock will work.

    • @johnshear2373
      @johnshear2373 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlanFong I had the same situation, but I installed mine with the bracket raised and it worked just fine. Installing the motor pushes the safety latch to the proper position so I don't know why they would have a problem unless the hex screw weren't tight. I was already aware of a problem with the safety latch when screws some loose so I was paying careful attention to the latch when I installed it.

    Dear Alan, I have a used, 20-year old 16.5 ft Lund 'Explorer Adventurer' with a side console and a 50 hp Honda outboard motor. I might fishing about 2 or 3 times a week maximum in the spring through late fall, but mainly on the Sacramento River from Knights Landing to Sacramento. I do go into the Delta and to Lake Berryessa occasionally. The boat empty weighs about 1100 lbs (guessing from specs) and probably total weight with 2 people at 2,000 lbs or so. I had a Minn Kota power drive version1 on 12 volts with 50 lbs trust. Stopped running and no parts. I mainly drift down river, but with a lure snag, the boat will slowly head up current. I'd like to stay with a 12 volt battery. Is it reasonable to stay with 55 lbs as I'm looking at a Minn Kota Terrova? Or am I silly not to get into 24 volt system and increase to 80 to 100 lbs trust? AND would you simply stay with a foot pedal or would you move to a remote if you target largemouth mainly. THANK YOU.

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Eugene first I prefer the foot pedal over the remote because with the remote when I turn I have to quit reeling to operate remote. With foot pedal I can keep reeling as I turn the boat. Most motors come with foot pedal but you can get the remote as option. But if you get a Terrova with I pilot (spot lock) it come with both. I would get the 24V system with 80# thrust much easier to run. Get lithium 24V battery and you're good to go. Lithium batteries are more expensive but they have a 20yr warranty. I use Bio Lenno lithiums and have had no problems and have never killed it.

    I have lowrance elite FS 9 with live sonar. Is the hockey puck worthless then? I have the NEMA hooked up to it with motorguide

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should leave the hocky puck connected so you can still have 2D sonar. Your Live is hooked up thru the ethernet plug (sm yellow) and the puck goes thru the sonar port lg blk but you might need the adaptor. On your puck might be a 7 pin and the Elite FS has a 9 pin so you need the adaptor. I always use my 2D especially when fishing shallow in delta. Was your old unit a Lowrance?

    • @jordanpadilla99
      @jordanpadilla99 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No not the crimps. I’m taking about that thing that you had in your video where you installed the wires into. That block thing that opened up and you put in your power cables from the battery and then from the foot pedal. Then you closed it up. What is that thing called exactly do you know ?

  • @txman201
    @txman201 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I know the video is a couple years old, but think it worth pointing out that the Ghost DOES NOT come with a "GPS puck antenna." What you are handling at 1:45 is a magnetic COMPASS, and nothing more. It attaches to a dedicated connector on the Ghost and is used for it to be able to navigate a heading. At the 5:00 mark you are NOT holding a "Live Target" transducer. You are holding an ACTIVE TARGET transducer. There is a difference; almost nobody is interested in Live Target. At 15:30 you mention NMEA connects the Ghost to talk to Live Target. No, it doesn't communicate with Active Target either (and not Live Target which you don't have). The Active Target controller box has no NMEA connection! The NMEA connection is for Ghost to communicate with the multi-function-display, MFD, i.e., HDS unit. It does so for the Ghost to follow a track from the MFD.

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably didn't explain right lol The active target is the 3 in 1 transducer and the ghost comes with the HDI transducer just 2D and DS, the 3 in 1 is an option you can add for the 360* The NEMA is used to hook to your HDS displays to the ghost and for doing updates also to your ghost. The ethernet is used for the sonar and for live target (forward facing)

  • @russelldean5265

    They said to mount the GPS Puc At least 2 feet away from the trolling motor. But yours is right there on the carpet behind the trolling motor. Is that OK? Also do you just screw it into the carpet and not worry about hitting anything?

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've installed many of these and I have not had any problems as you can see mine is right by the motor. I just drilled two sm holes into the deck and screwed it down. There is nothing to hit but I do look under the front plate to see where the tube with the wires is at.

    What do I use for batteries, I’m in the market for new ones and have the ghost

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your changing out batteries go with the lithiums. I changed mine out ten months ago and it was the best thing I ever did with the boat. I lightened the boat over 150 pounds or more. Depends on how you want to hook up trolling motor and electronics as to what batteries you buy. You can get one 36V battery if only running trolling motor? I put three 12V 100 amp hr batteries for 36V ghost, then I use each battery for 12V for electronics. I have never run the batteries down yet! Lithium batteries run full until they shut down no warning!

    • @marcmarcantonio

      While generally you are correct that tie straps can be problematic, in the case of Active Target the cable was engineered specifically so that tie straps are unlikely to hurt the cable. The cable is much more robust than other transducer cables.
