    You've constructed great boxes to show how things fit, or don't fit, into personal item and carry-on constraints. It might be an idea to write something like "Personal item 18x14x8" or "Carry-on 22x14x9", or whatever, on the box so that as people watch the videos, they know which box you're working with. It's easy to get mixed up.

    I love my older Porter 30 and have used it on several one bag trips. I even managed to get it under an airline seat once. I *love* the addition of the water bottle pocket on this one.

    I spent some time in REI going over this bag with a fine tooth comb. I had an older Porter 40 so was familiar with the “straight jacket” concept. One small detail I don’t remember from the previous version is the top small stowage pocket zipper has a small loop it can thread into to prevent quick opening from a grab and go pickpocketeer. The remaining zippers can be moved down to where the straight jacket wings will hid the zippers. It looks bombproof and I do like the back panel design as opposed to the previous solid panel which got very hot. Thank you for a nice review.

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good catch, the older one does have a small fabric loop, but you're right, you can't thread the zipper throught it. It's off to the side so you can attach a travel lock to the zipper.

  • @timor64

    Thank you so much for this. At 27cm the depth of this is exceeds the limits of almost every airline I can see - not just for a personal item, but also for full sized cabin bags. In practice the bag overall is so small you would have to be travelling on something pretty mean like Wizz to be caught out.

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly, most airlines wouldn't call you out, plus you can squish it down pretty small with the compression straps. I was able to fit it into an 8" depth sizer box.

    I watched your Cotopaxi Allpha 28L review, do you have a video comparing these 2 packs? 30L max is what I'm looking at and these 2 are the ones I am eyeing the most.

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have a comparison video. They're both good, I'd base my decision on which packing style you like more. Porter is a big duffel which is easy to pack, you can use cubes or just throw gear in there and squish it down with the compression straps. Allpa is clamshell with zipper dividers, more organization but you need to be more careful about how you pack, put gear in the proper place, roll/fold it. If you just like to toss your clothes in a bag and be done with it I'd go with the Porter, if you like to fold your clothes and have everything in it's proper place, I'd go Allpa.

    The new Osprey Sojourn Porter does not have lockable zippers for the main compartment anymore. The video from the Osprey website shows that the new backpack still has the lockable zipper but I saw the actual product at a store and there is no lockable zipper for the main compartment of the new backpack. Can you confirm that for me? Thank you.

    how does it compare to the Daylight 26+6? looking for something that can fit under the seat, but the daylight has no compression straps and the back system seems simpler. in general, can you fit the same amount of things into both of them? Volume is nice but its not always the case which how things line up. Also, as far as colors go, have you seen the green one irl? what color would you say it looks like?

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Daylight is a great personal item bag, it's small but if you can make it work it's great. You can fit more into the Sojourn. I ordered this online but I think I've seen the green one at REI, maybe like a darker minty green?

    I have the original 46 litre Porter and then added the 30 litre.. and I have a love/hate relationship with my Porters.
    The 1st porter was an obvious mistake as it was too large for my female 5'4" frame but I still use it as a incredibly durable bag. I call them straight-jackets as the the compression straps are so different than my hiking Ospreys. I have rolled the 46 down the stairs of staircases!
    I prefer no waterbottle pocket as I prefer to clip a carabiner on my bag. I like as few as possible pockets which is one of the reasons I didn't like the porter to begin with as the original opening gets complicated and I even color coded the zipper pulls.
    .. Interesting updates and I'm glad there's still a market but I'll stick to my to originals! They've been around the world and back!
    Cheers!!

    The measurements in their website are quite strange. 17.5” x 14.6” x 10.6”. You’re measuring it a bit longer, and less wide/deep. Very misleading, thanks for showing real world measurements with a typical load.

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Bag measurement is tricky because it's squishy so can be bigger or smaller than listed dimensions if under or over packed 🤷🏼

    Looking forward to the full review! Does it have lock holes on the main compartment's zippers, like the new Farpoint does? And how about on the laptop compartment?

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes on the laptop, no on the main and front compartments. There are a few loops on the front of the pack you could lock the zippers to, also easy to use a Nite Ize micro lock to just lock the zipper pulls together.

    • @orangutan29
      @orangutan29 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi from Japan! Thanks you so much for this video. Since there is not much info about osprey here, it was really helpful. So is this "Osprey Porter Sojourn Edition" an upgraded model of the "Porter Edition"? I wanted "Porter 46" so bad but it seems to be no longer available here, so I was looking for an alternative.

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, the Osprey Sojourn Porter is their 2023 update to the standard Osprey Porter. Osprey names their bags based on the fabric, instead of a style. So they have several "Sojourn" bags of all different styles, but with the same fabric. I think their naming convention is confusing, but it's the way they decided to do it.

    Question, can you tuck in the hip strap while the using the shoulder straps? From what it looks like, it's like you can only wear the shoulder straps while the hip strap is out cause that's where the buckle is, correct?

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can tuck most of it away. The hip belt padding has a seam "hinge" the buckle is attached to the inside of the seam. The hip belt padding folds on the seam and you can tuck the strap and most of the padding behind the back padding so there's only a little a couple inches of it sticking out.

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't tried the Trek but it looks like it has a more comfortable carry system, like backpacking harness style, but it's too big for a carry-on, you'd probably have to check it. Porter is more minimalist, can use as a carry on, but it won't be as comfortable.
