I travel internationally a bit and they have weight limits on carry on bags. I go light and don't worry about laptop padding, I use my clothes as padding.
Thanks for your reviews. They are great. I think they're the most comprehensive, unbiased and helpful I've found. It would be nice if you included the weight of the bags. It's an important spec, especially for one bag and lightweight stuff. You could even check the weight live with one of those little luggage scale handles to see if it matches the stated specs
Great point, I do tests with the capacity and include the specs in the description, but checking listed weight against my luggage scale would be helpful.
Hello OneBagTravels. Many thanks for all the time you've invested in producing the content. Super helpful!!! After quite a bit of time trying to select a bag that will allow me to use it as a personal item when traveling on EasyJet in EU, I've narrowed it down to either Thule Aion 28L or Evergoods CTB26... I like the CTB26 as it has two water bottle pockets, is a very functional design, has great reviews and seems like it will sneak in as a personal item if not crammed to the gills. Similarly, I like the Thule Aion 28 as it also looks to sneak in as personal item, has good organization, one water bottle pocket, but does have a 'wet' area section which could be useful if you worry about shampoo getting out or something. I'm about 189cms and wonder if you have any further insights that might help me make a decision? Additionally, I was able to try the osprey sojourn Porter 30 and really wanted to keep it, but it was not tall enough for the hip belt to work properly. Many thanks!!!
I'm not that tall but I'm not sure height will make as much of a difference with those 2 bags. Your height really matters when you're using a hip belt as it will sit differently on people of different heights. Neigher of those bags have a hip belt, so I don't see why they would really sit differently because they just have shoulder straps.
Nice roundup (and range of bags). I have the Patagonia Mini MLC (and the larger MLC) and I think they're well designed and good compromise for weight. Since you asked about other bags... There's a lot of attention on the more expensive $200, $250+ one bag travel bags, but I think a sub $200 category would be useful for a lot of people out there (maybe Timbuk2, though they're starting to push past $200 on some models). Also a smaller 1-3 day "light and on the run" bag would be a fun category. I often travel for 1-3 days for work and have been trying to reduce down to a 25 liter bag, but it's tough. Thanks for another useful and enjoyable video.
I recommend OBT with the Tom Bihn Synik 30. It fits easily under the airline seat, is very comfortable to carry, and helps you blend in well because it doesn’t look like a travel bag.
I just picked up a Synik 30 and a CTB26 (very different bags, I know). Can you share what makes the Synik not in your lineup? Perhaps too much organization for OTB? Glad to see the Tortuga V4 on here. Did a few long tips with it and agree that the comfort is unmatched.
Wooo the MLC made the list! Your vids helped me decide to buy it in the first place and I love it That said - I would say its laptop compartment is just as good as your first category! Plus the hip belt really helps for carrying tech.
I've looked at all your reviews in detail, thank you. Could you explain why you prefer the Sojourn Porter to the Farpoint, if the Farpoint carry system is better?
I like the packing style of the Porter better, but the carry system on the Farpoint. They updated the Sojourn's carry system so it's better than the older Porter model, i't but still not as good as the Farpoint.
Great review! I have the Osprey Sojourn Porter 30L (2023 edition) and absolutely love it. I took it on a trip with me to Spain and loved the external/internal features it offered. This trip included a lot of stairs and walking so having a travel backpack with a hip belt was very nice. Overall an amazing backpack, would definitely recommend.
I borrowed my sister in laws Porter 30 a month ago and was able to get it under the seat on Delta and Allegiant being packed to the brim. I’m buying my own in the near future after that.
Looking to replace an RMU 30-50L Travel Briefcase. I got it secondhand, unused for $40 3 years ago. I've traveled extensively & have tried to replace it. I'm not sure if RMU still makes bags, but I want something similar. It's got structure, a clamshell opening (not a front loading or what you refer to as panel opening), a thin-ish side-profile, side compression straps & excellent interior storage & sections. The only thing missing is a side water bottle stash pocket. I feel the Tortuga is the closest to the RMU, but I feel like the interior zipper compartments fall short. I like the Patagonia, but its way too floppy.
I don't think they make bags anymore. It's not as rugged, but the Patagonia MLC reminds me of that pack, good clamshell style but not as much structure.
Have a Aer TP3 buying my wife Allpa 28. However thinking about getting myself a Thule Chasm as I preffer a big bucket opening, a large organisation of TP3 and weight are slowly putting me away from it, however being 6 feet 5 I'm hesitant to go with smaller pack...
I love the Thule Chasm duffel but haven't tried the backpack. TP3 is kind of bulky, I'm curious if the Chasm 26 actually holds the same because the pack is simpler.
I have the Cotopaxi 28L, I got it on all black, and it looks so stylish and it’s so confortable, and functional. Definitely the best backpack I ever tried! And btw I convinced myself to purchase it because of your review! Thank you so much! 😊
Current recommendation for most space but still fits under a seat? Using ANA and I dont need a laptop space but I want to pack as much clothes as possible. Thanks!
Probably Cabin Zero. Nice and rectangular, not a lot of filler, good use of space, inexpensive and well made bag. Check this table though, I added a bunch of backpacks with dimensions so you can check and peruse for ideas within your size range. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xIMBaSlyFbQ7FSU5nKXn8VICaOkASUOR9HaKxRYAheE/edit?usp=sharing
If you were to pick only one out of the four Minimalist Backpacks, which one would you get? Obviously these are rather expensive and I don't want to spend that much money on a bag that does not suit my needs. For me, it's comfort> Capacity > styling > durability. I am leaning toward the Mini ULC right now but my concern is that it is relatively "heavy". Thank you for your review.
Picking one of those minimalist packs I would choose the Patagonia mini MLC. It's the heaviest of those 4, but high in terms of your criteria, comfort and capacity. It is heavy relative to those other packs, but not if it's compared to packs with similar features.
Hi, I want to sincerely thank you for your quick response. Really appreciate it especially from an expert like you. :) The MLC is what I am leaning toward as well. I have done a lot of research on the Mini MLC but it seems to be a tad too big to be used as a "personal item" when flying for many airlines. What's your take? I know the CZ 28 will fit, but I just don't like the design (lack of a proper bottle holder, does not fully open as a clam shell and questionable comfort. For comfort, would you rate the ULA as the best? That bag for some reason is in limited quantity. @@OneBagTravels
I am very impressed with the Knack Series 2. My big complaint is the location of the carry handles--prefer something that has the handles more centered. Another interesting one is the Sympl 35L
I haven't tried the new Voyager backpack but I've seen it. It's a good design but the material is cheaper and less durable than the bags in this video. I just got the Pakt travel bag and duffel just after I did this video, like them both, well made bags and work well if you like that style.
I picked up the Tomtoc 40 just before filming this video, it's definitely a top contender but I haven't had it long enough to be confident it was one of my favorites.
I love my Quechua Arpenaz! 20L, weighs nothing, huge waterbottle pockets and simple design, plus $16!! I've used it for everything from a month in thailand to three weeks in Europe to weekend getaways. It's not big but damn it gets the job done!
Great comparison video with a good mix of bags. Might be a little extra work, but you should consider mentioning and/or flashing in corner of screen approx price, liter, weight of each bag when you highlight each bag. That would REALLy help people get a clear overall view on each pack and save viewers a lot of time and energy making them wanna come back to your channel even more.
Just bought an osprey farpoint 40 for €90, while larger than these, I think for that price it’s a steal. I’d love to have gotten the smaller sojourn porter for that price.
Question: how come metric units (liters) are used to measure volume for backpacks and not imperial units (fl. oz. or gallons)? Most other volume measurements (soft drinks, milk, gas/petrol) are imperial - why use metric for bags?
Good question. The US has a history of mixing imperial and metric so I don't think it's that unusual. For example 2 liters of soda, 750 ml wine bottle, but a gallon of milk, metric is also used widely in science and medicine. Some companies based soley in the US will use imperial cubic inches, while others use liters. For example Red Oxx uses cu. in., but some others like Tom Bihn, and Knack Pack use liters. Some US-based companies like Osprey will show units in both imperial and metric. However most non-US companies will only show cm dimensions, g/kg weight, and volume in liters. I don't know for sure why this is the case, but my guess is for consistency and standardization with some history thrown in. For the history side, a lot of backpacking, skiing, mountaineering techniques were popularized in Europe before the US (for example this is why a lot of climbing terminology is of French origin), so people were already used to seeing bags measured in liters. And then just general consistency across brands. Because a majority of people are used to seeing liters, and know what it means to have, say a 40 liter pack, it's just easier for other companies to follow suit. Even though it doesn't make sense to use metric system for volume, and imperial for dimensions, I'm used to seeing it so I know what it means.
Thanks for the overview of these bags! I’m saving this video to share with friends who ask me for recommendations on travel backpacks. For carry-on backpacks, I use the REI Trail 40, Arcido Akra, or Kosan travel backpack. All have super comfortable harnesses. That’s usually my most important feature for personal travel that requires walking and public transit.
Love your content and appreciate all the information you put out there for us! One thing for improvement: please fix the squeak in your desk (bed?). That little, high-pitched noise occurs about every 2 seconds throughout the video, and was distracting me away from all your great material. Thanks again!
Nice video!!! You should try one of teh great Fjällräven bags! I use a combination of AER, Fjällräven, Osprey, and the new NorthFace Travel Pack. Pakt is also super legit!
Deciding between the Mini MLC and Dragonfly has been exceptionally difficult for me. I like the lighter weight of the dragonfly and supposedly better comfort, and sleeker form factor but the MLC has bigger capacity, organization, and the luggage pass through sleeve. For the Dragonfly, without the pass through sleeve, does it mean there is no way to properly put it on the luggage handle? I can imagine that to be a huge positive when you are tired of carrying the backpack. In my case, I am using the bag as a personal item while the carryon will be a wheel luggage. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you!
Dragonfly is probably a better size for a personal item, but yet it's not able to go over the handle on a roller. You could always buy both and return the one you don't like? It's hard for me to truely get a feel for a bag just from online reviews.
Great video. Seems there are too many to choose from. I bought a Sterkmann expandable in 2018. I have taken it around the world a couple of times. It is built to last.
I recently picked up the Techonaut, so far I love, I'm planning on doing a review soon after I test it some more, but I anticipate it will be a new addition to my favorites =)
Thanks for the great review Jeff (Geoff?)! I bought the Cotopaxi Allpa 28L based on your review a few years back and it’s served me well. Now I’m looking for a bag similar in capacity/ size but can hold a larger laptop (16” Lenovo Legion Slim). I’m torn between Bellroy Transit 28L and Peak Design 30L. Would you know which one could pack in more/ as much as the Allpa 28? Which one’s carrying system would be more comfortable with a laptop & charging brick in? Which one do you prefer to travel with more? Any other notes on these two bags are much appreciated. Thank you for what you do!
Good choices! I like both these bags a lot, Peak Design probably holds more just because it's slightly larger and the packing style is more open. Straps on Bellroy are probably better, they're thinner but the bag carries well, Peak Design straps are rather thin and I don't think carry a lot of weight that great. Bellroy packing style is a little weird to get used to because basically none of the pockets have their own volume. That's a tough decision between two great bags, hope this helps!
@@OneBagTravels thanks for the insights! It sounds like I can’t go too wrong with either. Peak Design has a camouflage version so I’ll give that a try first. If the straps don’t work out I know I’ll be okay with Bellroy :)
Technically no, it's too tall and probably won't fit in the personal sizer box. However it usually fits under the seat so if the airline doesn't check you bag you can get away with using it.
Can you PLEASE do a review/what are your thoughts on the Cotopaxi Allpa 50L Duffel Bag? It seems like the absolute PERFECT max carry on bag and could hit that sweet spot of carry on while having enough space that you'd normally get from a bigger checked bag since it's such a spacious duffle, but it is technically 3 inches taller than the max dimensions for most airline carry-ons. Would love to hear your thoughts as I think it could be a bag that breaks the carry on game.
This has been very helpful, so many bags out there! Would you recommend the Thule Aion 40L as well as the 28L? Tried it in store and liked the weight/feel of it, but didn't get to test it with packing things in. Read online that while it's nice, not having load lifter straps can make it overbearing on your back.
I have the 40L and like it. It's easier to pack for long trips, especially if you bring a laptop etc. You might want loadlifters if you're dayhiking with it, but for hauling around the airport, it's fine.
I would like to ask, how does the large Knack series 2 compare to the others in this video? Did it not meet a requirement for it to not be included ? Personally interested as I recently switched to the Knack for constant international travel. We enjoy the one bag traveling. I prefer to keep the bags slim to fit under the seat.
I like the Knack Series 2, it's high on my list, but just not quite in the top, but I would include it in my runners's up bags. The only issue I have with that bag is there are more pockets than I generally use. If you like more pockets then it's a great pack.
Totally agree on the small credit card size pockets. If that is what you are referring. I am curious and this is really big for me, did you have any issues putting this under the seat while flying?
@@G2020-f1m It will fit under a seat fine as long as you don't pack it too full, but it may be a little tight for a personal sizer box depending on the airline.
@@OneBagTravels That's exactly why I have the new Knack SMALL Series 2 on the way. (2 days out from arrival) This video was my 1st introduction to your channel. Very informative. I was hoping to see a Knack but I understand everyone's preferences and usage scenarios dictate the great diversity.
I’m trying to decide between the Cotopaxi Allpa 28 L vs Patagonia black hole mini mlc 30 L for a personal item airline travel backpack (mainly weekend travel). I know, based on your reviews, that neither is technically a personal item size, but I don’t plan to fill it completely and will be able to squeeze it into the personal item ‘box’. Do you have any recommendations between these two? I appreciate your advice. Btw, I love all your video reviews! Thank you.
I like those both, Patagonia is one of my favorites and can probably hold more and is easier to pack. Depends on how strict the airline is on measuring personal items, but both should fit in the sizer box if not too full.
ive watched almost every single one of your videos! My husband and i were really interested in the Pro and lite Tortuga's but unfortunately we dont live in the US to be able to buy one. Waht do you recommend? Hubby loved the sturdyness of the pro to keep his tech gear secure and protected and i liked the lite. i was looking into the Osprey rage soujourn porter, fairview, and farpoint unless you can recommend another? My main concern is the straps on the soujourn arent that great for its capacity. Also, you had a compressed puffa jacket what is that called? Thank you so much for the amazing channel and please keep them coming.
Thanks for watching! Puffy jacket was from REI, which you also probably can't get outside of the US. Osprey is a good brand, I think they ship internationally. Farpoint/Fairview has much better straps than the Porter if that's important. Cabin Zero is another brand to look at, they're based in the UK but ship internationally, very reasonably priced bags, well built and comfortable carry straps on most models. Like the Classis Pro and plus are basically the same model but the Pro has hip belts. Good bag, simple, large and comfortable.
I’m trying to decide between the Aer and Evergoods , also considering the larger 35l. These bags being on the expensive side, I need help deciding. Which do you recommend?
@@chulaguy619 Depends on which Aer. The Travel Pack 3 can be a little bukly because it has a lot of pockets. The City Pack and Pro Pack are much less bulky, but the biggest size they have is 24L. If you're looking for a larger 35L Evergoods may fit what you're looking for more better. It's easy to pack, has pockets that don't overlap in volume, is comfortable, looks good and holds enough for 2 weeks.
Awesome round up. Do you have any plans to look at the Alpaka Elements Travel Pack? I went for it over the Aer and I’m curious to see how you think it stacks up.
Yeah, it's one of the next bags I plan on buying. To me it looks like it has features similar to the Aer TP, Tortuga Laptop backpack, and some of the Able Carry packs. Can't wait to try it out
Topo Mountain Pack 28 does it for me, although I considered all of the bags that you listed here too! I can only afford one though so I guess I have The One now.
Hi, excellent video, thanks. I have the ATP3 35L, but I’m looking for a smaller backpack I can use for work and weekend travels, I think the ATP3 is quite big for that but I love it, do you have other recommendations? I’m thinking 26-28L would work, thank you
Have been onebagging with the Kota UL for the last few months. Really enjoying it. Curious to see your thoughts, particularly how the carry system compares to others. Cheers for the content, keep it coming!
I like the SEG, it's easy to pack and quite functional. It's a non-traditional design and honestly it didn't occur to me to include it in my list, but the more I think about it, the more I like the bag.
I'd check your airlines to see what size limits you have and pick a bag that fits all of them. European airlines tend to have smaller limits than the US. Cabin Zero has a lot of good options that fit.
The full name is the "Osprey Daylite Expandable Travel Pack 26+6." I just shorten it to 26+6 because the name is so long. I have a link in the description al least for the US site.
did a Farpoint 40 vs 55 comparison which covers pretty much everything th-cam.com/video/8nkQuNZMnMA/w-d-xo.html. I think it would be redundant to do an individual Farpoint 40 review at this point.
If I were to choose the Dragonfly over the Mini ULC, what am I missing? I have watched your reviews numerous times on both. The Mini ULC will have more capacity in the main compartment?
Yes, Mini MLC has a larger main compartment, while Dragonfly relies more on those external stretchy pockets. Mini MLC has a better laptop sleeve and more interior pockets, stowable backpack straps and a luggage pass-through sleeve. Dragonfly is a good minimalist pack, but it's pretty basic.
Currently trying to help my wife decide between the Patagonia Mini MLC and the Osprey 26+6. She's 5'2" (157cm for the rest of the world); is one better than the other for shorter people?
Do you think the Aion is easier to pack than the 26+6 since you get the extra space in one main compartment? Which one do you like more out of those two?
Different opening style, Aion maybe easier to pack main compartment but has more pockets than 26+6, plus that plastic panel that you need to decide what to do with. But easy once you get it dialed in.
@@P0WSEETrHey, I'm also deciding between these two bags, which did you end up going with? Osprey is just such good quality, it would be my first Thule bag if I decide on it. The Osprey is a very nice size for a day pack, Thule a little bigger. Both seem very good. I know that the 26 + 6 has a false bottom and the Thule strangely not..
@@wesleybarnesdev I bought the Thule, mainly because I like having one big compartment and I don't travel with a laptop, only an 11" tablet with a case, so the false bottom is not as important to me
@@P0WSEETr Cool, congrats on your choice :) The Thule bag cost 2.5 x more than the 26+6 where I live. How does the quality on the Thule bag feel for you?
Thank for this excellent overview review. Your channel is so great. Ospreay Daylight in any other colour but a (to my eyes) ugly green seems very hard to buy for the last litle while.
This is the eternal question. Peak Design look better but I like the packing style of the Mini MLC better. If you want a really nice looking bag with a lot of attention to detail I'd go Peak Design. If you want a pack that can hold a lot, is easy to pack, but kind of looks like a big box on your back, Mini MLC is a great pack for that.
Good bags, I might need to expand my list! Max is up there. Pakt travel backpack? I just got the Pakt One but haven't had enough experience with it yet. Might pick up the 30L travel backpack to test out soon. I plan on updating my favorite bag list every year so thanks for the suggestions.
I have a few other bags that I really like that are true duffels that I didn't include in this list, I like the Base Camp, North Face Voyager is decent but not as high quality as similar bags that I like more, like the Osprey Daylite Duffel, Thule Chasm, and REI Big Haul.
Thanks for these videos! I am looking for a backpack (~$200) that works as personal item. Do you have any new suggestions? I want something stylish under 2lbs weight. Some Asian and Mexican airlines have a weight limit between carry on and personal item of 10 kgs. The Osprey daylite 26+6 and Cabin Zero out of stock 😕 I was about to purchase the Peak Design everyday zip 20L but is too heavy for me.
I own perhaps a third of these and what I've discovered as much as I love travel I love choosing appropriate travel bags! In some of these I have the older version so they don't have the latest improvements but they are still of my favourites. I remember when you initially profiled the cabin zero military I had previously chosen a cabin zero basic bag as my one carry-on in a multi-month trek thru SE Asia and as I was not carrying tech or any heavy clothing this cube shaped lightweight bag with no dividers or even a robust carry system was still all I needed. Previous to purchasing the Peak design I had used one of a few Timbuk2 bags for business travel so I appeared streamlined instead of as if I was setting off to climb a mountain. As someone who prefers to steer away from pockets, water bottle holders and interior dividers I'm always able to keep the weight down and one bag travel is made so much easier! Thanks for another great multi-review, cheers! 🌎 🌍 🌏
@@OneBagTravels I had the dragonfly but sold it. I still have an Atlas :) … & a goruck GR2 32L…. Synik 30L … Northface Surge & quite a few maxpeditions.
I love all things Matador. This would be one of my top lightweight or packable hiking backpacks. It would work for a travel bag too but I like bags that open wider so you can get to your stuff.
@@OneBagTravels that makes a lot of sense and thanks for the response. I used the Beast recently for a weekend camping trip, but no travel yet. How would you compare it in terms of comfort to the Dragonfly?
I love Tom Bihn but I've only tried out two bags, TriStar and Synik. TriStar is a good briefcase bag but too heavy and bulky to make the favorite list. Synik is great EDC and short trip carry, love the organization on the external pockets, but the interior packing is kind of awkward because the bag is oval. It's high on my list but not quite enough to make the list. I'm going to test the Techonaut this year, I have high hopes!
@@OneBagTravelsthanks for the video! like all of your reviews. Would love to see your thoughts on the Techonaut. Will you try the techonaut 30 or 45? I'm considering getting the 45, mostly as my travel style has changed now that I have a family. Still worried about it being too big and easy to overpack though.
And maybe people with less upper body strength/women. I find that the lack of a waist belt makes a huge difference for me. I've read that this is common for smaller backpacks because they don't come so far down on the torso and the beltwould be less useful, but I think that's a statement that doesn't really apply to any but the tallest of women. For me, a belt that goes around my waist is often better than one that sits lower down on my hips, and one that goes anywhere on my torso is usually better than none. @@OneBagTravels
Been using bp's my whole life. Best I ever bought was probably Granite Gears urban bp- The Jackfish. It is compartmentalized= Perfect/ It is designed= Perfect/ and it looks good. It has a great harness system and holds small amounts of stuff or can be expanded very well. The #1 problem? HORRIBLY BUILT. Straps come off, zippers fail, etc... Never have I loved a product in just about every way- except in it's construction. The a long and thin and awesome on your back- most bp's are square, which I hate. But @ 120 and it will look like shit after 6 months and have a bunch of stuff fail on it= I can't buy another. (They stopped producing all of their urban bags, I'm sure b/c of complaints) Watching vids now to find a replacement. I think for city use, you really need 30L+, anything less just isn't enough to hold much other then your basics, but everyone needs to eat and buy food or whatever.
I haven't really been following Granite Gear, but they used to be a local made in USA high quality brand. 10 or so years ago the company was sold and started making gear overseas and lowering the quality of the materials. Now you can buy their bags at Walmart. The name persists, but I think the Granite Gear of the old days is no more. If you like compartments Tom Bihn makes some great gear, made in Seattle, very high quality, but expensive.
This channel deserves more viewership and glad I've found it today. Every word you say is very useful and practical to the point. Efficient.
Thanks alot, glad you like the format =)
Ditto
Love how you grouped them. That helped a lot.
There's a lot of overlap in features but I tried to group them together somewhat
I travel internationally a bit and they have weight limits on carry on bags. I go light and don't worry about laptop padding, I use my clothes as padding.
Good call, that's why I threw some lightweight options in here, sometimes you just want to travel light.
Only a certain few airlines, and I travel the world with a 45L and have never had a problem.
Thanks for including us in your shortlist!
Thanks for making great bags!
@@OneBagTravels "bagflation" 😂
I recommend OBT with the Tom Bihn Synik 30. It fits easily under the airline seat, is very comfortable to carry, and helps you blend in well because it doesn’t look like a travel bag.
All are true! I picked up the Synik 30 when I visited Tom Bihn factory this summer, great bag but not quite top of my list
@@OneBagTravels Hiya just wondering why its not top of your list as well?
Wooo the MLC made the list! Your vids helped me decide to buy it in the first place and I love it
That said - I would say its laptop compartment is just as good as your first category! Plus the hip belt really helps for carrying tech.
Laptop is quite good
I've looked at all your reviews in detail, thank you.
Nice! Glad you're loving the bag
Did you use it as a personal item?
were you able to use the 30 L porter as personal item bag on the plane?
I borrowed my sister in laws Porter 30 a month ago and was able to get it under the seat on Delta and Allegiant being packed to the brim.
I’m buying my own in the near future after that.
great video! I'm currently looking to get a new travel backpack, and its incredibly helpful to see these bags side-by-side
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful
I was thinking about the duffel but now as you mention the backpack would be interesting to try it
I have the Cotopaxi 28L, I got it on all black, and it looks so stylish and it’s so confortable, and functional. Definitely the best backpack I ever tried! And btw I convinced myself to purchase it because of your review! Thank you so much! 😊
Nice, glad I could help!
I would get this but man wish it at a water bottle pocket
Current recommendation for most space but still fits under a seat? Using ANA and I dont need a laptop space but I want to pack as much clothes as possible. Thanks!
Probably Cabin Zero. Nice and rectangular, not a lot of filler, good use of space, inexpensive and well made bag. Check this table though, I added a bunch of backpacks with dimensions so you can check and peruse for ideas within your size range.

I have the Aion. After researching for a year ended up with it as it packs 95% of what I need.
What do you do with the other 5%? 😆

yes. I like it :)@@wesleybarnesdev

I am very impressed with the Knack Series 2. My big complaint is the location of the carry handles--prefer something that has the handles more centered. Another interesting one is the Sympl 35L
I like that one! Reminds me of the Hemiplanet and Minnal bags
Interested in how they compare to Pakt. And your thoughts on Northface voyager
I haven't tried the new Voyager backpack but I've seen it. It's a good design but the material is cheaper and less durable than the bags in this video. I just got the Pakt travel bag and duffel just after I did this video, like them both, well made bags and work well if you like that style.
Curious about Tomtoc 40L and Gregory Border 30/40L. Great video, thank you!
I have that one hanging on the wall ☺️
I use the Patagonia 40l duffle bag. Super versatile. Use a couple of backing cubes for organization.
The Black Hole? That's a good one.
Yes. Have had it for 10 years. It’s a work horse.
Great suggestion, I put the specs in the description but adding it to the screen as I go would be helpful.
Just bought an osprey farpoint 40 for €90, while larger than these, I think for that price it’s a steal. I’d love to have gotten the smaller sojourn porter for that price.
Both great bags and a steal at that price
Well done!. €90, is a true bargain and the bag itself is amazingly comfortable to carry even when weighing 10kg.
Yes, your reviews are best I've seen here.
Thanks for all the support and comments 😊
Did you compare it with the Alpaka gear backpack? They have quality gear packs sling bags etc.
No but that's on my list to review this year, I like the looks of their gear.
REI and Arcido make great packs too, haven't tried Kosan
Love your content and appreciate all the information you put out there for us! One thing for improvement: please fix the squeak in your desk (bed?). That little, high-pitched noise occurs about every 2 seconds throughout the video, and was distracting me away from all your great material. Thanks again!
I got a new table!
Nice video!!! You should try one of teh great Fjällräven bags! I use a combination of AER, Fjällräven, Osprey, and the new NorthFace Travel Pack. Pakt is also super legit!
I've got my eye on their Travel Pack. And yes to Pakt, I just got two of their bags right after I made this video
You could probably clip the chest strap and put that over the handle. Not as tight against the luggage handle, but at least it wouldn’t fall off.
What do you think of The North Face Borealis Classic? I'm planning to use it as my personal backpack for travel and small weekend trips
I haven't tried the Borealis but a lot of people seem to like it
Great video. Seems there are too many to choose from. I bought a Sterkmann expandable in 2018. I have taken it around the world a couple of times. It is built to last.
That looks like a nice bag, inexpensive and well built is good.
How do you think these compare to Tom Bihn Techonaut 30? Still waiting for review on that one :)
If the straps don’t work out I know I’ll be okay with Bellroy :)
just bought the Allpa 28 and awaiting it's arrival. Could you tell me if it will work as a personal item? Thanks!
I saw one of those in SeaTac yesterday! Actually looked good if not a little larger than what I usually carry but I'll check it out
This has been very helpful, so many bags out there! Would you recommend the Thule Aion 40L as well as the 28L? Tried it in store and liked the weight/feel of it, but didn't get to test it with packing things in. Read online that while it's nice, not having load lifter straps can make it overbearing on your back.
I haven't tried the 40L but I could see it being heavy without load lifters
I was hoping to see a Knack but I understand everyone's preferences and usage scenarios dictate the great diversity.
thanks for weight specs in the description. wish there were weights for all categories. best channel!
I left some out, I'll update the description.
What features do you think are important in a backpack?
@@OneBagTravels capacity good enough for two weeks one bag travel , comfortable to carry and not bulky looking
@@OneBagTravels thank you, the search continues. I appreciate your replies.

Hi, excellent video, thanks. I have the ATP3 35L, but I’m looking for a smaller backpack I can use for work and weekend travels, I think the ATP3 is quite big for that but I love it, do you have other recommendations? I’m thinking 26-28L would work, thank you
If you like AER, the Pro Pack 24 is a good work/weekend travel bag. There's also the ATP3 Small, which is 28 liters.
you are a backpack expert !
Woot!
What’s be biggest reason why the arcane duffel 30l didn’t make your list?
It's a nice little duffel, honestly I didn't even think about including it, I think just nothing stands out to me about that bag.
Have been onebagging with the Kota UL for the last few months. Really enjoying it. Curious to see your thoughts, particularly how the carry system compares to others.

What’s your view on the Matador SEG28 as one of the minimalist bags
I like the SEG, it's easy to pack and quite functional. It's a non-traditional design and honestly it didn't occur to me to include it in my list, but the more I think about it, the more I like the bag.
Question, traveling from USA to london,Rome and Spain for 21 days, what bag would you recommend.
I'd check your airlines to see what size limits you have and pick a bag that fits all of them. European airlines tend to have smaller limits than the US. Cabin Zero has a lot of good options that fit.
Have you tried Deuter's Avion and Vaude's Mundo?
I have not. Just added them to my list of bags to check out though. I've used Deuter bags before and like them, I like the Vaude.
Is the Osprey 26+6 still called that or is it now daylite something? I can't find it in shops here (Australia).
The full name is the "Osprey Daylite Expandable Travel Pack 26+6." I just shorten it to 26+6 because the name is so long. I have a link in the description al least for the US site.
did you not like the new farpoint 40? noticed you haven't done a full review of it yet either
did a Farpoint 40 vs 55 comparison which covers pretty much everything th-cam.com/video/8nkQuNZMnMA/w-d-xo.html.
My gf who is 5'2" as well really likes the Osprey 26+6, it's a good size for someone that tall imo.
@@OneBagTravels Awesome; thank you!
@OneBagTravels I think I'll have that panel rolled up always, and Aion seems to have more depth in the main compartment without expanding

Hi which one do you think is the best option between Peakdesing TRAVEL BACKPACK 30L vs Black Hole® Mini MLC® 30L?
This is the eternal question. Peak Design look better but I like the packing style of the Mini MLC better. If you want a really nice looking bag with a lot of attention to detail I'd go Peak Design. If you want a pack that can hold a lot, is easy to pack, but kind of looks like a big box on your back, Mini MLC is a great pack for that.
I'm disappointed you didn't add the Matador SEG28 in your list
Me too, it was so close but I needed to narrow my list down more so I cut it. It's definitely an honorable mention.
Mystery Ranch Mission Rover 30L, is quite solid choice
That is a good one, I took it to Ecuador last year.

Any 3 way/convertible bags ( separate shoulder strap ) ?
Tom Bihn Tristar is pretty good as a 3-way. I haven't looked at a lot of this style though.
Pakt is missing from your list. Also Able Carry Max.
Good bags, I might need to expand my list! Max is up there. Pakt travel backpack? I just got the Pakt One but haven't had enough experience with it yet. Might pick up the 30L travel backpack to test out soon. I plan on updating my favorite bag list every year so thanks for the suggestions.
Can I ask you why no north face base camp or voyager? Tnx
I have a few other bags that I really like that are true duffels that I didn't include in this list, I like the Base Camp, North Face Voyager is decent but not as high quality as similar bags that I like more, like the Osprey Daylite Duffel, Thule Chasm, and REI Big Haul.
is the cotopaxi alpha 28 better then osprey Porter 30L ?
They updated it recently so I think it may be better now
Thanks for these videos!
Patagonia Mini MLC is good, Quechua NH Escape 500 23L, Aer City Pack Pro.

Many backpacks are being made with laptop compartments now, duffels often aren't so that could be a solution.
Curious why none of the Tom Bihns didn't make your list?
I love Tom Bihn but I've only tried out two bags, TriStar and Synik. TriStar is a good briefcase bag but too heavy and bulky to make the favorite list. Synik is great EDC and short trip carry, love the organization on the external pockets, but the interior packing is kind of awkward because the bag is oval. need a category for taller / bigger people.
I agree, and shorter people.
@@OneBagTravels
what is the most comfortable?
I'd say Tortuga V4, Evergoods, then Aer are my favorites for comfort.
Not sure why, but I really trust you. lol
Guess I'm just trustworthy 🤷♀️
