In a previous video we looked at a Chinese tank known as the WZ-111. However this is far from the only failed design produced by them. As relations between the Soviet Union and Chinese government began to fall apart it became a priority to not just replace their aging license built tanks but also to design new ones capable of facing off against the latest soviet armor should fighting break out. This scramble would eventually lead to the tank project we know today as the WZ-122.

@@Doyle- What this have to do with NK? Not so long ago crew of americans in a american M-18 was able to blow themselves up by not firing the TD from outside... If the shells have more power because they are puting more propelant to it then it is a good idea to shot it like that. With old stuff people often using reduced charges but in case of a war that is not an option.
NK licensed the T-62 production from USSR so NK tanks are based on old technology but are not as old as Soviet version would be. Not to mention that NK improved many critical components: laser rangefinder, "There is a new TShSM-41U gunner's sight, new commander's sight, "Meteor-M1" stabiliser, BV-62 ballistic computer and 9K116-2 "Sheksna" (NATO: AT-10 Stabber) guided missile unit with 1K13-BOM sight (it is both a night sight and ATGM launcher sight. However, it cannot be used for both functions simultaneously) "

Fun Fact: The Chinese tech tree presently seen in World of Tanks is almost completely different from what was originally planned. This is due to how secretive the Chinese Govt. is, even over designs decades old. Essentially, Wargaming had to have each tank and its modules approved before they were allowed to release them. It delayed their release on the NA and EU servers for a significant amount of time.

Start having Type 59-I at t8, then split into two routes. With the first one is Type 59D(59 with the extra long barrel 105mm gun) follow by Type 80. And the other is 122-3/6 follow by 122-4

@@frankpolly You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. The "cultural revolution", along with most political movements in China between 1949 and 1980, was conducted under the theme that customs and traditions had to be thrown out and done away with. The movement saw worse destruction of historical sites and artifacts than the decades of war that preceded communist rule in China. Academics and educated people were persecuted because they seeked to preserve China's heritage and asked too many practical questions that threatened to invalidate the very policies that were being driven by uneducated individuals, such as Mao and his appointed officials. Soviet policies were ridiculed in China for being too conservative, too "revisionist", and not adhering to communist ideals. Mao's goal was to forever silence the knowledgeable and learned elements of Chinese society, so that nobody would question him. He even went so far as to disrupt China's entire education system so that all forms of education were effectively put on pause and replaced by recitals praising Mao's genius. Needless to say, despite getting his way with most of his decisions, Mao thoroughly failed to hold China to his path. Almost immediately after Mao's death and the end of his tyranny, the consequent resurgence of rationalism turned his policies on their heads and gave rise to decades of ceaseless economic development that shaped China's current success. If there is one trait with which one must describe a country as diverse as today's China, it is rationalism.

WZ-1224 hull is basically the same as Romania’s TR-85. Even the 8 cylinder engine is the same specs. I suspect this was a joint project between two countries and intended to have a 120mm gun. China probably cancelled the project when the gun took too long (it didn’t enter service until Type-89 tank destroyer entered service). Without the gun the tank was not worth it for China. I think Romania completed the project with the old 100mm gun.

    a smallish set of correction
    122/122a is Three Liquids
    1221/122b is Three Mechanical
1222 is the ancestor to the Type 80 and later Type 88 and Type 85 (and in a weird way even the Type 96) essentially a Type 59 hull with the rear end of the T-62 installed, a new engine, and Suspension Copied from M48 Patton (from Vietnam) and of course the L7 105mm gun later on
1223 is a weird abomination that was basically (at least initially) just a Type 59 hull with a suspension copied from M48 Patton, but later replaced the 100mm gun with a L7 105mm
1224 is the experimental tank derived from American suspension and unique welded composite turret on a HEAVILY modified 122 hull
(later prototypes were used in other projects in the 1980s as part of the "BK" series)
1225 is Unknown (possibly not even a thing that actually existed)
and 1226 is a more "conservative" alternative to the 1224, with a conventional cast turret instead of the welded one
as far as I know 704 wasn't ever officially part of the 122 program, being sort of...an outgrowth of its own (it's also not based on three liquids but rather three mechanical, hence it not being collapsed to the ground after all these decades rotting away)
at 6:56 thats not another 704 or 122 at all next to it, just a weird Type 59/69 upgrade with a mine plow, l7 gun, and smoke grenade launchers (there are other photos better showing it online)
overall a great vid, seems nobody cares of chinese developments of this era which is quite sad as some of them are beyond fascinating (often being mergers of east and west in terms of tech)

Next Nb.Fz? Or was it allready? Anyway, there was the plan to mout the 5 cm L/42 instead of a 3,7 cm L/45 in the Nb.Fz, why was the idea abandond? And does anyonr know if the 10,5 cm LeFH 18 L/28 fit in a Pz IV turret?
I had a shower thought, near the end of the war germany tried more and more to have interchangable parts.
So i wondered wether it was possible to mount the 105 in the Pz IV turret, it would then be able to take both rolls, a big He round, and with the 10,5/7,5 cm Pzgr Ts (Apcbcds) it would be even more powerfull than the 7,5 cm KwK 40 L/48 while having a shorter barrle.
Then there were Pz III/IV hulls (used for self propelled guns such as Hummel or Nashorn)
Couldnt they have ceased production of Pz III and IV hulls and take that with improved armor (it has a even more sloped big front plate and there where versions where the only horizontal plate was small, just a hood for the driver)
And build on that hull the next generation of Stugs, Flaks, "normal" Panzer and continue the Spgs?
And possibly further imorove the hull as to implement the pointy lower hull armor setup like on Jpz IV.

Why wasn't this line up used in War Thunder as a tech tree, event vehicles or premium pack vehicle because World of Tanks is pulling ahead with native tank designs for different nations but in war tinder everything is almost copy paste

    • @Sammael66685
      @Sammael66685 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Maybe because most of the whole Chinese tech tree from World of Tanks are rather:
A: Prototypes that were just tested without any actual implementation, like the WZ-111
B: Concepts that never ever passed beyond the drawing board, like the T-34-2
C: Total WG's own inventions, like the Type 59/Patton, Type 58, the whole tank destroyer branch, etc.
From all those, which makes about a 70% of the nation roster at least including regular and premium vehicles, only the ones of the A category could make an appearance on War Thunder, as they use vehicules that actually served or proposals that were actually build AND tested. (argument which makes this very WZ-122 and all their variants a very plausible addition in other hand)

Type99 is a third-generation tank, while 122 plan is one of the second-generation prototypes. The design experience of 122 plan is applied to type69 and type80. Especially the engine on 122-5 and 122-6. This series of tanks(from 122 to 703) is just a new exploration. Due to the restriction of industry level and technology in that era, some designs are unrealistic. But it still could be said to a milestone of chinese tank from total imitation to gradually independent research and development. A retired designer who participated in 122 plan design recalls so in his social media account.(a part of images in this video are from his account)
