China's Type 99 | The Beast From the East

  • Possibly the most realistic threat to Western powers directly, the People's Liberation Army of China have undergone rapid modernization and expansion over the last two decades or so, and spearheading their ground forces, is this; the Type 99. An interesting (yeah, that's a good word for it...) design with some commendable features, yet some strangely backwards ones too, this beast from the east is well worth talking about - just so long as the inevitable controversy is kept to a minimum...

    ZTZ98 - Not an official designation,. It is actually just the original ZTZ99 without any ERA upgrades.
    ZTZ99 (I)- The first upgrade to the ZTZ99 which gave the tank new ERA armor. (Currently Featured in War Thunder)
    ZTZ99 (II)- The second upgrade to the ZTZ99 which gave the tank a new turret. Main differences are the removal of the turret "Hump," and a new ERA layout on the turret cheeks.
    ZTZ99A- This was a total upgrade which included a new hull, turret, engine, and ERA. It is essentially a completely different tank than the earlier ZTZ99's.
    All of these tanks included a soft kill APS (The box on top of the turret) which is not mentioned in the video. From what I hear, it locates a lazer system and shoots a beam at it to disrupt/destroy it.

    • @WangGanChang

      "ZTZ-98" does have a official name, it's the engineering prototype tanks of project 9910. You can see it on the banner for its handover ceremony. (note project 9910 itself include a entire suite of weapon systems, not just the tank)
      imgur.com/a/DiGDBlh

      @LSgaming201 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Deflection is a non issue for modern ammo types. Chemical rounds would just explode as normal and be neutralized by the ERA. Kinetic rounds don't deflect like that, they shatter and break. The shafts of modern APFSDS rounds are so rigid and under so much stress at the moment of impact that if they fail to penetrate they quite literally shatter. So either the round acts as normal and it's a kill or the armor package stops it. In modern combat there is basically nothing in-between.

      China is so laughably shameless about stealing anything that isn't nailed down while simultaneously pretending to be a self made nation. They're kind of like those millionaires who claim to be self made despite getting a $10mil loan from their parents to start a company, screwing over their partners, and then seizing control of the company and taking all the credit. Their rifles, other small arms, artillery, tanks, and aircraft are all based off Russia or Soviet designs, their recent aircraft carrier is literally Soviet scrap they rebuilt using Russian tech, most of their radar, computers, stealth tech, and aircraft use stolen American technology, and even most of their military training, tactics, and doctrine is based off stolen western ideas combined with outdated soviet ones they're starting to replace.
      You know when _Russia_ and the _Soviets_ are pissed you've ripped off their tech that you've got a serious problem. China hasn't had a serious self made military since the 18th century, first they imported French and German weapons, got German and British officers to train their men, then imported Soviet equipment and Soviet trainers and experts, and now they're devoting their entire economy and intelligence network to stealing from every country on earth. If they had to develop their own weapons and technology they'd be like North Korea: 50 years behind the rest of the planet and relying on human wave tactics to solve every problem.

    • @Jowjoejoe

      @@arthas640 I mean it works right? Who cares if the tank you are using is built with foreign tech, it works. And the outdated tactics worked ok with Korea and India, not so much with vietnam. Military seeks to be on par with their competition. And it is not like other nations just magically developed technology that happens to look the same, it is just because china started the arms race much later that they have a lot of bad examples to not learn. By the way a lot of so called "stolen" tech are pretty legal, weapons like the L7 105, 35mm oerlikon, and various tech was imported during the 80s. They are trying to build an army, not an essay.

      @@randyhavard6084 Having worked in industry, particularly in manufacturing parts for diesel engines, I can tell you that it happens there. At one time, I made parts for DDC, Cummins and Caterpillar at the same time. I know for a fact that each company buys engines from their competitors and RE them. If they see something they like, they incorporate it into the next generation... as long as it does not violate patents.
      China is playing catch up on technology. But do not think that all they do is copy. China graduates more STEM students annually than the U.S. Their engineering knowledge is growing rapidly. Since they are a closed society, they may not be willing to share their research openly. Food for thought.
