    The greenery looks so lush and rich in colour. But boy, does it ever grow up fast 🌿 and furious. Great job thinning and road building for easy access 😉

      Thank u. I keep thinking on how to improve it too. I think we're good for now until I'm ready to fence in the whole area with a permanent fence.

      Thanks so much, it's super fun creating these videos anyway. I try not to be boring although I feel like I'm much improved in front of the camera compared to my early videos. Thanks for the feedback, I like to hear that what we're doing is entertaining.

    Hello Chad, appreciate the video, always nice to see a fresh upload from yourself. Smashing job with the new fencing and pathway, must be very rewarding to make small changes like this on your land knowing that it is all adding up towards the bigger picture. Do you have any intentions to dig a pond/small lake at some point so that you can avoid the refilling of water on a daily basis with the tubs?

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man. Yes I have dreams of a pond fully stocked with aquatic plantlife and native fish. I'm all about regenerating this land as it was lived on but not cared for over the years. I think a pond would have such a huge effect on the wildlife and only add to the property. At first I thought I would allow the water fowl access, but I'm thinking the water would just get nasty and the pond would lose its beauty and lustre very fast. Plus it still would only be for the non-winter months as the pond would freeze over. I think what I'm doing with these water bins is good for now.

      @@HiddenSpringFarm When are you hoping to pursue that Chad? It'll be a fascinating project to both do and watch. That's true it's difficult to predict how the water fowl will treat it; I have read in the past that they can help seal the ground beneath the water with their droppings but I suppose you have to weigh up the pros and cons.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Paul-bx4kt sealing the bottom would take an awful lot of ducks and decades I'm sure. Trouble in our area of Ontario is that the soil is very sandy. We would need some type of bentonite material bedding or a kevlar liner. Of course I want to build this sucker right away, but I need more money first lol. ducks make fresh water look like pea soup in a matter of minutes. Then there's always the trouble of getting the ducks off the pond and into their hut at night. All things to think about, lotsa options.

    You could also introduce new blood into your goose flock by ordering some embden goslings from a hatchery that way you improve the genetics of your brood

    Do you have to buy feed for the ducks or does free ranging them provide all there nutritional needs?

  • @Carycares1817

    Did u ever think of a shallow pond for the ducks? But would they still eat insects?

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they would still eat bugs, trouble with water fowl is they foul up their water bowls in minutes. I’d imagine it wouldn’t take long for a small pond to become nasty. A bigger pond will maybe dilute things more but then when it’s time to put them to be you gotta be able to call em back somehow. Natural spring pond would be best I think.

    Do you have to clip their wings? I was thinking about doing this but with muscovy ducks.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have Embden Geese and Khaki Campbell ducks and I don't cut their wings. I've seen the geese a few inches off the ground and the ducks a few feet only so I don't worry about it. Muscovies may be different, you have to make a call depending if they fly.

    Geese can be such jerks hey! I taught mine to have "supper" and "snack" times, this way by always saying these words they learned them and just as fast as dogs learn words. so I can tell them its supper time, put food in (a treat if the timing doesn't work) and they will know its time to go in their pen. In the daytime I give them a snack once a day and say snack again and again and they will follow me around, I usually get a lawn chair and sit, then feed the snack. this way they follow me. in the mornings they will come up to say hi. It is definitely this training because they do not be polite like this with anyone else in the house. If they are off foraging somewhere and I want them to come to me I just yell out duckiedoos! and they all come running (incase I have a snack). I trained the chickens the same way, just yell chiiicckkaaaannnns x3 and they all come a runnin incase its snack time. It's really helpful when they want to get jerky!

      Great tips. I've been teaching the ducks and the geese to go to bed when I shout "Tulugan Na!" which means go to bed in Tagalog (Filipino). I thought it'd be funny since my Darlin is Filipina.

      Well the 4’ farm fence if was just from the Home Depot but the portable poultry netting was direct from Gallagher fencing. I have a video on that if that’s what you’re looking for.
