How is it you say this is the finest bike on the road, when the Suzuki 1000GX has more power, less weight, better handling, electronic suspension, large beautiful TFT screen, great quick shifter. Seems to me this is a bit of a dinosaur in serious need of updating.
I bought a gently used 2019 model that had been very well equipped with extended fairings, the Yamaha frame sliders, the upgraded top box rack and the Yamaha top box that has the integral passenger backrest (Its a $1500 option). I have the bags that go inside the panniers. It is a very easy bike to ride and very smooth. I've had it 20 months/10,000 km (Ontario so we only ride 7-8 months/year). It has so much power it does everything effortlessly and I find I rarely need to rev the engine past 5000 rpm as it rolls on well in any just about any gear but stick it in Sport Mode and let it rev and it's an absolute rocket ship. The one area that needs significant improvement for extended riding - the seat. My bike has the Yamaha Comfort Seat but it's not good enough for riding 500+ km/day so I'd go Sargent, Corbin or Laam. I did a 4000 km trip last year with my wife - Toronto to the Tail of the Dragon/Cherahala Skyway via Skyline Drive (Shenandoah National Park) and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I went with the FJR as the engine has a 20 year history and is known to be bulletproof, as an "older" bike the price is very good so represents good value for money, and although big' its not huge like a Harley or a Gold Wing so its easy to use as a daily rider (I take the panniers off). It is also very good on gas when cruising at road legal speeds. Mine now rides on Michelin Road 6 GT's which grip well and last reasonably well also.
Awesome. Sounds like allot of the mods I want to do as well. Ya I feel same way. Proven bike. No need to even attempt opening it up and your exceeding every speed limit in Canada haha. So far been fun to ride and a nice change from my wr250r. Will be doing it’s first service very soon. Also have the bar risers just haven’t had time to put them on. Cheers!
Excellent choice. Have had 3 over the years. Get a good topcase with backrest and additional tail lighting. Also a side stand attachment that enlarges the footprint for soft surfaces..
I have a 2015 FJR. Great bike. I have T-Rex engine guards, bag guards and sliders. Givi 47 litres litres top box. Also a Yamaha OEM larger touring windshield! And a larger side stand foot plate.😊
I was seriously looking at getting an FJR too but when I sat on one it felt very tippy to me. I also heard lots of riders have dropped this bike both sides due to it's front heavy tippy-ness when maneuvering it at super low speeds. I hope you won't have any issues. I'm sure you'll know within the next year. Gratz on getting such a beautiful bike and I know that thing goes like a rocket!
I bought one 6 weeks ago in Ontario, its a great bike, i put Michelin road 6 gt on at 2,250 great move and a tall Vstream windshield so i can ride with a half helmet in the summer.
I have put handle bar risers on my 2018 and it has changed a lot ! It is now as i expected for my back and confort. I can only advise to do the same for all FJR users :)

I am original owner of a 2013 FJR1300 A. It’s a 5 speed and doesn’t have ES. I agree with your update list. Radiator guard is a must. Guard cost much less than replacing OEM guard. I have canyon cages for protection not sure if they are still available I added a top box for storage space. I use 2XL helmets. So it helps. You’re gonna love it Enjoy. I’ve been doing daily commutes and trips Southern PA to Tail of dragon and Tennessee most recent long ride
Nice video, and beautiful bike. I have a 2016 same exact color and bike. I want to get a newer model, but they're the same. Yamaha needs to give us a colored TFT screen, full digital option. As big as the gauge space is on the dash, they could install a MASSIVE screen. I want a new one, but there's no reason because it's the same as my 16. Come on Yamaha give us some tech....lol. Stay safe
This video has shown all the features that the corporate videos do not. I own a 2009 BMW K1300GT which retailed for 23K when new. I don't know who copied who when these two came out but the Yamaha has everything the Beemer does for around 18.5K USd. The last service I encountered cost me $1095! The K1300 is no longer in production being replaced by an elephantine K1600 six cyl. and the R1300RT both in the $30K neighborhodd. This video convinced me the FJR is my next bike and that's saying something since I've ridden BMWs since 1966. Thanks for the info and enjoy the ride.

Hello. I have the 2003 model FJR 1300, ABS which is still perfect and reliable, one hundred and 10 thousand km trouble free km, checked valve Clearencence still in range, counter balancers slight adjustment. The 2003 model will achieve all day riding fully loaded 2 up. Shaft drive for sports touring. Centre stand. There is plenty of luggage space. Resealed front forks, rear shock reseal, all parts available at yamaha dealers.
What is the MSRP? I love that blue. I wish it had something like the new Tracer has with the adaptive cruise control/music function. Sorry I love my music. I still love the bike and would definitely consider it!!!!
Great bike, traded my FJR for super tenere 1200. Reason was that I wasn’t comfortable with narrow handle bars. Started to get wrist pain. I am a wide shoulder guy and after long rides I started to have pain on the side of both wrists. With S10, the problem is gone.
Unfortunately not for sale anymore in Europe for a few year now due to emission standards here. Mine from 2017 has done 113.000 km ( about 70.000 miles) and it's perfect. Once had to replace front wheel bearings and it had the gearbox recall in 2021. With the Michelin Road6GT tires it handles great while the tires also last an acceptable amount. Wish you lots of fun anf safe miles!
Does the seat still make you slide into the tank? Rented one for 3 days and hated that. Even the custom seat place in Denver said they fix them all the time.

@@bigair0176 As seen in the video it seems to be in the lower position, but... you will see yourself. :) Thanks for the answer bro. Appreciate it. Cheers.
@@RRRRefuelRideRace @bigair0176 From the factory, the seat should be set to the lower position by default. Congrats on the bike! I have a 2023 (which is identical), and it's fantastic. The only thing I don't love is how top heavy it is. I have other bikes that are the same weight, but lower center of gravity, and I am far more confident on them when it comes to things like picking an appropriate parking spot, doing the 7 or 9 point turn in the garage to get pointed outbound, and other maneuvers that require feet on the ground. I'm about 5'7, inseam 30 or 32 depending on the day.
Also re: the "low" RPM red line, if you haven't found out already, there really isn't a need to go much higher 😅 I find cruising at 3000-4000 is perfect, I'll hit 5000-7000 when I'm trying to boogie, and anything above that is just wild.
@@willst101 I see. Thanks a lot. I never tried the FJR, but I am thinking to do it. I am 6ft 1. Will see. Who knows if there is gonna be a new FJR in the near future. Drop by to check my content, you may like it. Cheers bro.
Are you up in Campbell River? I’m just down the road in the Comox Valley with a 2018 FJR 1300. I’ve done some farkle add ons. Regarding the seat, I tried a Yamaha Comfort Seat but it wasn’t a big enough improvement to me. So rather than going incrementally up, I just bit the bullet and went with a custom Russell Day Long seat. After the break in period it was and is great! It’s not heated and I didn’t get the optional backrest. I do have a Yamaha Topcase for road trips. And I place the cooler on the passenger seat which acts like a backrest. Glad you’re enjoying it!
I am. Haha figured someone would recognize the area. Cheers! I am probably going to spend the money on the Sargent seat combo with heated seats and back rest. Will prob stay away from the top box for now. But ya never know. I just got the motorad risers. That video will be coming soon!
Fantastic bike , i had one with the AS (assisted shift) but nowadays it's totally out of date. In Europe it's not sold anymore because it does not comply with enviromental rules. Yamaha totally missed the boat on a successor . What a pity. And with Honda also having stopped the production of the Pan European , BMW is the only way te go as far as comfortable touring bikes are concerned.
I like Kawasaki motorcycles as other brands. But one look at the Concours and I would immediately go Yamaha. The Fjr is a much better looking bike. Even though I primarily am a cruiser guy, the Fjr is a very appealing bike.
Ya I originally wanted the concours. But after some research they don’t have some of the features I wanted. Plus they don’t make them anymore. For now anyhow! Fun machine. Very smooth ride for sure! Cheers!
This Yamaha is likely the most reliable bike ever built, and the only bike that would upstage its service life would be a Honda Gold Wing. I own a 2008 Kawasaki Concours 1400 that I bought new, and it’s been very reliable. But putting the Kawasaki into 1st gear is a clunker, do the same on that Yamaha and it’s a very light click by comparison. With cruise control, electronic suspension adjustment and different throttle modes, this bike will be my next one when I decide to upgrade. He made a smart choice avoiding the BMW. Reliability and service life wise, it’s like comparing a BMW car to a Lexus, no comparison at all. Nobody wants a shop Queen.
Hi I just wanted to say thank you for not making this video with AI like I'm so sick to death of expecting a review of a bike and then it's just AI with its robotic voice . no actual Rider experience rider opinion . Just a computer reading a spec sheet. So thanks sir. Subbed
Yes handlebar risers make the biggest difference in the world... Custom seat would help you out greatly comfort seats out of Idaho USA would be good... I did have a sergeant in fact I am more than willing to sell you the top portion I don't like it to me it was too hard... I will give you a killer deal... And since you have the electronic suspension you don't need to upgrade the rear shock or the fronts. .. my bike has fallen over two separate times no damage to it either time .. because of having the bags on and sliders ..
Awesome. Glad to hear about your mods. I just ordered some risers. They are sitting on my desk awaiting installation. I also ordered a cheap 25$ back rest to try out from Amazon for the passenger back rest. Gonna try it as it seems inexpensive enough
@@bigair0176 .. may I suggest you purchase an air hawk .. that or an equivalent on Amazon.. the Air hawk is a little bit better than the other types .. but it is an inflatable seat cushion and I will say in my ride across the country it allowed me an extra hundred miles each day.. and I have hip problems but it helps ... My suspension mods are rear shock absorber is top of the line ohlins .. in the front gp suspension ... For me made an amazing difference... And then last year I put a car tire on the rear they call it going Darkside and now after 12000 me you can barely tell any miles on the tire .. a lot of controversy on doing that but I figured if I didn't like it it was only $110 ... My bikes at 88 me I feel that tire will be good until I'm at about 120000 .. ... Anyway just discovered your channel I will be watching additional
Only ridden it for 600km. So far I love it. Got shit ton of power. Basically feels like a train on wheels! I have ridden the RT 1200. Very similar bike! Cheers
Bought a new 23 in March. Would not do a cross country ride with it. The wind and buffeting will wear on you as with the vibration at 70 mph. Its a sport bike with CC, bags, a shield and driveshaft. Good for sprints not touring.
Don't agree on that, would easily ride 600 miles in a day. Wind shield adjustment will help if you have wind issues at speed. Or buy a higher wind shield.
Its relative. Try a multi state ride on a 5th generation Goldwing and the difference is clear. Plenty of luggage room, no vibs, no wind with a aftermarket shield...but the wings stock seat sucks. No wiggle room. Stuck in the saddle seats position. No handlebar adjustment. Not a comfortable position if over 6 feet tall. FJ triangle is better but legs get cramped...
Totally disagree I have ridden my 2010 FJR 1300 from Seattle to Orlando.. And back doing 500 plus miles each day... On the way back one of the days I did over 900 miles.. but I will say I ride with an airhawk I'm a member of a group were three other guys have the fjr .. and we all ride with air hawk . Even though I have a custom seat ... 88000 on my bike and going strong
The vibs don't bother you? Below 3k is smooth... over that is bothersome. Im on my 3rd windshield trying to find tbe best. So far the Yamaha tour shield is the winner. The CalSci is a joke. Puig is nice but not tall enough. Found out that your helmet choice has alot to do with the buffeting.
Nice smart colour, I like these, but I have never had one, I recently got kawasaki h2 sx but I think I would be better of on one of these, h2 is to fast for a touring bike😮
Well this has no shortage of fast or power. It is basically the same as the zx14 or concourse 1400. Lots of juice. I doubt I will ever know what it really can do just on how fast it is to get to the speed limit haha. Cheers!
@bigair0176 yes I know their good I have had a few xjr13's & just sold my 5th zzr1400 but the h2sx haven't got that initial tourque of the line then it just wants to clime to silly speed's it's not relaxing for touring, I was trying to get away from bikes that encourage high-speed riding for something more relaxed & comfortable but still with plenty off low down grunt and plenty of power. I like the changes they made to yours and it looks real good in that gloss colour ✨️
Not much difference between the two only for the concours 14 is faster not that you need it how long is a piece of string and I think a 28 litre tank the GTR1000 have large touring tanks
I love the FJR and the Yamaha Blue. I had a 2010 BMW R1200 RT. It was between the Beemer and the Yamaha. Back then the 2010 Beemer had all the features I wanted, especially CC. It was quite a bit lighter and I just love the Boxer engine. Rode all over BC and NW US. Loved that bike, rode 20 K km/year.

My FJR has the Yamaha Top Box with the padded insole my lock broke so haven't had it fixed yet but it still closes
Doh. Feel for ya dude. Too bad they haven’t continued it. Cheers!
Going to get rid of my low rider s and get one of these
You won’t regret. Cheers!
Greetings,
As always another brilliant detailed video production 🇺🇲🍾🎉🇺🇲
Keep producing more videos about the FJR.(Mods videos, how to do it)
Thanks, will do! Cheers
@@simonlangmead7 right on. Couldn’t agree more. Cheers!
love it i own a 2002 fjr superb bike probably gonna drive it a long time before buying the newer model or gtr kawa
Ya I plan on owning this for like 15 years I think. Cheers
I really like this bike. But is so hard to get one in my country. Why like that Yamaha ?
Reliability!
legend, love em.
Heck ya they are great bikes
Hi I just wanted to say thank you for not making this video with AI like I'm so sick to death of expecting a review of a bike and then it's just AI with its robotic voice . no actual Rider experience rider opinion . Just a computer reading a spec sheet.
So thanks sir. Subbed
Thanks appreciate the support. Cheers
i have a 2008 i will never need a better bike
Sweet. Glad to hear it’s treated ya right. Cheers!
As anyone heard of the BMW R1250RT who will become the R1300RT soon ? This is not a Dinausor but the FJR is !
Dinosaur or not. Still a great bike! Cheers.
Never saw this motorcycle, it doesn't exist in Brazil, great one... looks like the BMW R 1250 RT
Only ridden it for 600km. So far I love it. Got shit ton of power. Basically feels like a train on wheels! I have ridden the RT 1200. Very similar bike! Cheers
sweet bike!
I think so too!
Bought a new 23 in March. Would not do a cross country ride with it. The wind and buffeting will wear on you as with the vibration at 70 mph. Its a sport bike with CC, bags, a shield and driveshaft. Good for sprints not touring.
Thanks for info. Cheers!
I honestly thought they had stopped production of this bike !!
Nope!...the Concours hasn't been produced for a few years now. I originally wanted the Conny, but after some research the FJR was the better choice.
Not much difference between the two only for the concours 14 is faster not that you need it how long is a piece of string and I think a 28 litre tank the GTR1000 have large touring tanks
unfortunatly this bike ins t sold anymore for some years in most european countries :(
Doh! Sorry to hear that. Cheers!
Nice. Going from my wr250r dual sport to this is a major upgrade haha. I want to have some road trips on it. Biggest reason I bought it. Cheers!
It's a fairly reliable bike and runs on low octane gas. I would not pay $23K for one.
Ya love it cheers!
@@bigair0176 I have 2, but no way in hell would I pay $23K to a dealer for one.
Is that US money
@@danielweatherford3243 Canadian.
U.S. $18,399 here in western Pennsylvania. You can get last years model (23) for around $15,500.
I put 165k on my 09 model until we got taken out by a fat bast wombat about a month ago. I'm loooking at getting a new fjr, ducks guts!!
Nice. Definitely a great machine so far! Cheers!
Can't hear you.
Just the wine of the engine.
Edit better next time.
Ya sorry was just a test video with the go pro. Has the media attachment. So need a microphone if I keep riding and doing vids like that. Thx. Cheers!
the audio is terrible.
Ya no helmet michrophone. Sorry was a test to see how well just the GoPro worked.
Where do you live that you paid $23,000.00 for that bike?!?? You got ripped off big time!!
Canada lol

Absolutely Terrible Sound! While Riding.
Ya. Sorry no microphone. First time testing the media microphone on go pro. Cheers.
that bike is screeching,eww.
Lol not sure what you mean by that but cheers anyways!
