You are very talented, the steel pipe used to apply proper torque is genius.
Very appreciative of all your 981 videos.

Thanks for the feedback, but genius I am not.
That method of torquing is always good for hard to get to places and also for screws beyond a standard torque wrench. Easy to get 500 Nm with a 2m bar. Also good for left hand threads.

Just did this job today and thanks to Jeff it went pretty smoothly - all his points are spot on! My 16mm ring spanner was fine to remove the engine bracket bolt but when it came to do the torque ‘trick’ I found that it was too angled (as Jeff pointed out). Went to buy a flatter one which worked fine but managed to drop it into the engine bowels (I had removed the rags I had stuffed down into that area by then!!). Spanner disappeared and could not be seen with a torch. Luckily I managed to fish it out with a rare earth magnetic - a bit sticky for a few minutes… Other than that the only thing I’d say was that my belt and both pulleys looked perfect. I changed them anyway but not sure it was really needed. My car is a 2015 2.7l 981 Boxter with just shy of 60K miles on it. Jeff - thanks again for the video!

Just an FYI. If you drop a nut, torx, bolt etc. into the engine bay, like me, try banging on the Underbody Shield. I heard, then saw my bit bouncing about and was able to fish it out with a telescopic magnet in a minute or two.

So very helpful (as usual)! Thank you. I need to do this on my '14 Cayman

For the torque spec I'd recommend to look at "crows foot" torque wrench adapters, it would allow you to torque the bolt without the elaborate set up. I just went by feel. My car is at 85K miles with the belt replaced at 75K and when I checked all the pulleys they were fine.

Tried a crows foot and there wasn't enough room. A standard ring spanner was the only tool in my shed that would fit.

Thanks Jeff - you certainly did help! Next job I’m contemplating is to refurb my weathered headlight lenses. Any idea when you might do a video on this process? Thanks again.

Whilst I've done this for other headlights in the past with some good success, I don't think my knowledge is at a level where I could put out a video that would be considered a good guide for others. For the other parts of the car I think I'm in a bit of a unique position that I can pull it apart, play around and give some solid guidance that doesn't already exist. I've always been concerned of putting stuff out there that might lead people astray, and this is one subject where I might be at risk of doing so. I might have a stab at it in the future but until I feel confident I'm not prepared to put something out there.

Thank you Richard, for your thorough and easily understood information.
I’m hoping our new 718 Spyder on order will be similar in layout, as I to like to do my own maintenance.
Just wondering if you were ever a Technical College tutor, your approach reminds me of my Trade school back in NZ?
I do all my own maintenance on our 14 Cayenne Diesel, have done a couple videos but nothing like yours M8.
    Thanks again.

G'day Murray, thanks for the feedback. I can't see there will be too much difference to the Spyder as the chassis is pretty much identical. You need to take it back to NZ. The roads there are made for it.
Not a technical college teacher but I've instructed for a lot of my working life in the military.

Jeff, thanks very much for creating this video - so helpful as I need to do this job on my Boxter 981. I have made a donation to your project. Not sure if you have already done this but another video that I think would be really helpful to the 981 community is removal of the front bumper to access/clean/replace the aircon condensers. Is this something you could look at in the future? Many thanks again, Paul (UK)

G'day Paul. Thanks for the donation. Very much appreciated.
I'm more than happy to take suggestions from people for what procedures they would like to see. Currently all the brakes/park brake are in pieces for videos so I'll make the bumpers next. Anything else you think would help I'm more than happy to oblige.

@@jeffrichardsoncardiy No worries - I’m more than happy to support your worthy project! I think your previous detailed videos show most things that I have been interested in. One thing that would help me and may well be useful to others too is relating to the headlights on the 981. Not the removal but the condition of them and potential repair. Mine like many others are exhibiting ‘spider cracks’ on the lens. These are distributed more towards the top of the lens (where they are exposed to the sun more). I’m not sure if this is simply the UV coating cracking/crazing or an actual crack in the polycarbonate lens cover. Plenty of videos on YT showing headlight repair by wet sanding the lens to remove original clear coat, polishing and then recoating with clear coat. I am looking to do this and have purchased a ‘dummy’ headlight to practice on first but again your experience or thoughts in this area would be most appreciated. Keep up the good work! Paul

Done. Headlight repair is on the list. The lights on my DD are fine, but one on the project car has this problem. I've polished lights on other cars I've owned with success so I"ll do this at some stage soon.

@@jeffrichardsoncardiy Perfect - thank you! I think the headlight refurb will be of interest to the worldwide Porsche (not just 981) community. I look forward to watching it. Really enjoying your current open heart surgery videos. Keep up the good work! Paul

At what milage this belt should be replaced? My 981 S has 27k km on it and dealer says it should be replaced, but there´s no noise, nothing.

The service spec is 90,000 km. Take a look at it and check the condition of the ribbed surface. Shouldn't have many cracks or bits missing. If it does I'd replace.

What's the size of the wrench you're using to move the tensioner?
