My favorite moment in this season is towards the end of "Handle with Care" when Kettle picks up Cuphead to talk to Mugman by himself, he just...picks up Cuphead by the handle and moves him as if he's someone elses cup of coffee and he doesnt wanna spill hot coffee everywhere. And it's just...SO CLEAR this is a normal thing for them as Cuphead just accepts it
I agree with the handle thing too. Cause in the beginning of “Ribby and Croaks” when the cupbros started to fight, Kettle got irritated and pick them up by their handles to make them stop fighting. Also in other episodes, either Cuphead or Mugman grab each other from their handles too.
Like he said in the video, these older cartoons absolutely LOVED giving reality the finger and just doing whatever the hell they wanted to. I'm also thinking that they live in a world where cartoon physics and rules are just...how everything is, like they are literally living in a rubberhose cartoon.
I totally agree that there should be more cartoons that are literally just cartoons, it doesn't need tons of character depth or lore Not saying serialized cartoons are bad, it's just that episodic ones don't get as much attention as the serialized ones when they should

I think the animation is super awesome, which easily match what they could do in the 1930's along with the more resent stuff of Wander over Yawnder, but doesn't quite have the same level of high intensity of energy just yet, but, I attribute it more to inexperience in writing these sorts of wacky slapstick as they keep improving a lot over each episodes. Looking forward to seeing more.
Honestly, this show was an absolute joy to watch. I was a little irritated at the fact that we wouldn’t get to see the devils casino due to the fact that this is more and towards children and we shouldn’t be showing them gambling on screen anymore, but I still loved what we got so far. I’m most excited to see more of king dice, I can imagine he’s pretty pissed of losing his position is the Devil‘s right hand man, as well as losing his game show. I’m very excited for season two, I really hope that we get to see more of the bosses from the game, especially Baroness von bonbon, Cala Maria, and hopefully we will get to see the full phantom express and it’s crew! While obviously it’s not the perfect copy of game to show or anything, it still is a wonderful thing that can be presented to and funny to audiences of all ages! The animation and background is absolutely gorgeous, putting a modern twist to all techniques used from an era that has long since passed in the years of animation. It’s truly beautiful. Design wise, I think I liked king dice and Chalice the most, but personality wise, the devil was my absolute favorite. He’s funny, he sings very well (so does KD), I love the creative ways that they use his fighting techniques in the original game, and his personality is so lively but it fits the character so well! Well I wish I could see what the show would’ve been like if it didn’t have to have the kid friendly restrictions so that we could see the casino, I loved how this came out and I am very excited for season two and to meet more of the bosses and characters that we have seen along the way in the isles of the game!
I think that the Devil's Casino will be explored in later seasons. Also, if a Mario game can have a slot machine in it, as well as went by the Nintendo of America censors, and SJW idiots, then I do think that the Devil's Casino will be explored at a later date. However, the cigarette and liquor boss characters from the Cuphead video game might not get to be in the series unless there is a very good and plausible reason why they are in the game. Tiny Toon Adventures learned that lesson the hard way, despite the ironic fact that the episode that had alcohol and smoking in it was not only a critique for older cartoons having them, but that it was legitimately supposed to be a anti-drug and anti-liquor PSA that was literally preaching AGAINST doing such things.
Isn't it generally accepted that The Cuphead Show is a prequel to the game, hence why the Devil doesn't own a casino and why Cuphead and Mugman lack powers? I'm not against the show aiming itself more at kids, due to the Moldenhauers wanting kids to take interest in rubberhose animation.

As a lifelong animation fanatic, I fell in love with Cuphead before it was even properly released. And the Cuphead Show is practically a religious experience for me. Every last frame of animation is a love letter to its forefathers. I showed it to my cousin the other day and we binged through half the series in one sitting because he couldn't stand to go without seeing just one more episode.
I'm a HUGE fan of Fleischer and Silly Symphonies, so I'm all over this show. It helps me to enjoy Cuphead without playing it. Game is...sensory overload. As your opening gag portrays. XD

Just finished watching it, and I've got to say it's really interesting that something based on an animation style that hasn't been popular for several decades can still entertain and engage me. I never played the game, but if this show is any indication it might be worth a play to me 😊
I'm not too familiar with the Cuphead franchise, so thanks for eloquently explaining why the animation looks so retro-style-gorgeous. The art style of this cartoon is like a blend of Max Fleischer and early Disney with a bit of Ren and Stimpy tossed in, and the slapstick is pure Looney Tunes. I've always assumed that the liquid in Cuphead and Mugman's heads is cerebrospinal fluid, which would add a touch of horror to the scenes where they get broken...
I LOVE their sibling dynamic. I feel like other characters with their types of personalities tend to be extreme but I like how they dialed it back a bit and you could really the close bond they have. I also like how they compliment each other and that they express their friendship routinely.
Big question is why King Dice didn't get a song of his own since he was the only character whose theme had lyrics (if you don't count the barbershop quartets')

This is an uncomplicated cartoon done RIGHT. I love a deep plot and mystery, and I tend to gravitate towards them, because they simply have more care put into them than most shows. But this made me laugh, and I don't need more than that. It's just good.
I was used to watching some of the classic cartoons like Looney Tunes or Tom & Jerry when I was young. Even though I've grown out of cartoons, I watched this show with minimal expectations, and was hit with one of the best shows I've ever watched. They absolutely nailed it.
I've seen the clips, but I'm still having trouble imagining you raging at anything Finn. 😂 I am however, very impressed at your knowledge of animation techniques. And lastly, you and your wordplay. 👍
I did grow up with this style of animation since my parents were really oldschool and had a lot of cassettes featuring these, and the cuphead show brought me right back. The show made me feel so nostalgic I couldn't stop smiling throughout the whole pilot.
I'm so glad this show turned out to be good as I hoped, since it will be the last new show I will watch for a really really really long time (no seriously I don't have any interest in any of the new shows that are coming out in the near future, or even 1-2 years from now...)
If you watch the last episode of season 1 it's confirmed that the liquid in their heads is indeed milk. (they even dunk a cookie in it before eating that)
I never knew that this was a video game until the show came out. The show is amazing. The devil is on my short list of my favorite devil character designs, the other one is the devil from A Tale Dark and Grimm. I can't wait for the next season.

So here's a suggestion for you, if you actually read it. Dogs in Space is a cartoon that is somehow good despite the name sounding like a throwaway joke that would appear in a sitcom or something. No spoilers, just watch it.
After watching, the characters and especially the animation remind me a lot of Ren and Stimpy of all things. The insane facial expressions, the bizarre world, and the humor. Of course, Ren and Stimpy itself was riffing on an old school style of animation.
I love how you picked up on how Cuphead's personality is shown in the very first scene. It was an interesting detail I didn't think about until much later. Glad I wasn't the only one!
I love everything you noted in the show and more. I watched all sorts of animations like this and this felt just like those other shows. Basically this show is perfect. However my favorite is still Tom and Jerry, though The Cuphead show is still in my top 5.
I love the show too. But i live in Germany and in this version all the names are translated. I know it's because of the younger watcher but it's so weird to hear the names Tassilo ( Cuphead), Pottkopp (Mugman) and König Würfel (King dice). I always watch English comic dubs of Cuphead and am so just to hear there english names. Sorry for bad grammar.
Hi i am an Indian fan so i watch the show in Hindi! I also had the same experience like the nickname mugsy turning into mug-du , king dice into king or Raja Pasha(Pasha means dice) , elder kettle as Buddhe kettli (old kettle) but the devil didn't get his name changed cus there is no word for "devil" in hindi !
hmm I'd have to say the Cuphead show isn't necessarily an authentic 1930's cartoon in terms of stylization, it's closer to 90s animation with the writing, pacing and how the characters move and emote. Popeye, Betty Boop, Felix, etc. are entirely different beasts compared to the Cuphead show for example. The cuphead show emulates a handful of techniques from older cartoons but that's mostly in terms of backgrounds, physical 3D props and the film grain overlays, the way the characters are drawn in the show is as if a 90s cartoon interpreted 1930's designs rather than what would actually be made during the era. TLDR: The cuphead game itself is era accurate but the show is not, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, I just think that a distinction needs to be made between something that is era accurate and something that is only visually similar but not authentic, as the cuphead show is something that more-so "invokes the feel" of a style without necessarily matching it like the game does.

It took me 4 years to get every achievement in Cuphead, I have made countless Cuphead drawings ever since it came out, and I have watched thousands of Cuphead videos and live streams. It was all fun (Except for getting every achievement that sucked), so when I heard there was gonna be a Cuphead Show, I searched up on every browser I had and every social media I had about the release date. And it came out after so long and it's better then I thought it would be

The problem with this show was it released far too late. It took forever to actually make (just like the DLC) and when it finally released the cuphead fanbase was essentially gone.
I have tried to watch every animated and drawn cartoon ever and they're all have a beautiful design to them the ones I watched so far and I'm very happy that someone has made a video about them being the best cartoon that it is
I finished season 1 yesterday. I thought it was... fine. Most of the episodes were passable. I quite liked a few of them (especially the first, the third, the fifth and the eight). The other ones were mostly "ok". Except episode 2 that was pretty bad. I would have liked more of King Dice, it's a shame he appeared in only one episode. The animation and the style are what really sold the show, because yeah, they are indeed pretty dope, but if those were downgraded, the show wouldn't be half as enjoyable. It's a pretty standard show. Could be worse, but could also have been a lot better. I know they probably wanted to do their own thing without being bond to the original game's story, but the game's concept would have made for a much more interesting narrative, I think.
?? i didn’t realize how old these animations were i guess! when i was little tiny baby child( currently 16 right now) my mom let me watch Popeye, betty, and other stuff like that. felix the cat was definitely my favorite, though. i didn’t realize so many people didn’t partly grow up on this stuff lol. once i saw cuphead i had such an attachment because it felt to nostalgic- like actually lol. i have sm love for the creators.
Another thing about the characterisation of Cuphead in the show is in roll the dice when he's asked his favourite song and it turns out to be 'the daring young man on the flying trapeze' and I think it's just showing that he's headstrong and probably considers everything stupid he does as heroic in some way but it's a great example of getting a grasp on the character without having him say any exposition. And even though it's literally just a cartoon it shows how much thought was put into it with little details such as the opening scene and Cuphead's favourite song
I absolutely adore what this show set out to do and be when it comes to animated shows. I was born in the early 2000’s, but all I ever watched were old cartoons like this. Felix the Cat, Betty Boop, Popeye, the Jetsons, and several others. There’s something really charming about those old cartoons and it makes me really happy that there are game and by default, tv show creators that have brought this style of cartoon back into the spotlight
Both the game and this show and such a delicious cup o tea. It’s not anything deep, it’s not trying to push any agenda or anything like that, this show and the makers know exactly what they wanted to do. Just have fun. And that’s what cartoons are all about! Pure unfiltered fun!

I never knew that this was a video game until the show came out. The show is amazing. The devil is on my short list of my favorite devil character designs, the other one is the devil from A Tale Dark and Grimm. I can't wait for the next season.

After watching, the characters and especially the animation remind me a lot of Ren and Stimpy of all things. The insane facial expressions, the bizarre world, and the humor. Of course, Ren and Stimpy itself was riffing on an old school style of animation.
I love the simple fun animations. And cuphead blows that style out of the water. I'm excited to see more of the show!

I love how you picked up on how Cuphead's personality is shown in the very first scene. It was an interesting detail I didn't think about until much later. Glad I wasn't the only one!

I love everything you noted in the show and more. I watched all sorts of animations like this and this felt just like those other shows. Basically this show is perfect. However my favorite is still Tom and Jerry, though The Cuphead show is still in my top 5.
I love the show too. But i live in Germany and in this version all the names are translated. I know it's because of the younger watcher but it's so weird to hear the names Tassilo ( Cuphead), Pottkopp (Mugman) and König Würfel (King dice). I always watch English comic dubs of Cuphead and am so just to hear there english names. Sorry for bad grammar.

Hi i am an Indian fan so i watch the show in Hindi! I also had the same experience like the nickname mugsy turning into mug-du , king dice into king or Raja Pasha(Pasha means dice) , elder kettle as Buddhe kettli (old kettle) but the devil didn't get his name changed cus there is no word for "devil" in hindi !

The Cuphead Show: Making the animation style of old feel new once again
hmm I'd have to say the Cuphead show isn't necessarily an authentic 1930's cartoon in terms of stylization, it's closer to 90s animation with the writing, pacing and how the characters move and emote. Popeye, Betty Boop, Felix, etc. are entirely different beasts compared to the Cuphead show for example.
The cuphead show emulates a handful of techniques from older cartoons but that's mostly in terms of backgrounds, physical 3D props and the film grain overlays, the way the characters are drawn in the show is as if a 90s cartoon interpreted 1930's designs rather than what would actually be made during the era.
TLDR: The cuphead game itself is era accurate but the show is not, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, I just think that a distinction needs to be made between something that is era accurate and something that is only visually similar but not authentic, as the cuphead show is something that more-so "invokes the feel" of a style without necessarily matching it like the game does.

It took me 4 years to get every achievement in Cuphead, I have made countless Cuphead drawings ever since it came out, and I have watched thousands of Cuphead videos and live streams. It was all fun (Except for getting every achievement that sucked), so when I heard there was gonna be a Cuphead Show, I searched up on every browser I had and every social media I had about the release date. And it came out after so long and it's better then I thought it would be

The problem with this show was it released far too late. It took forever to actually make (just like the DLC) and when it finally released the cuphead fanbase was essentially gone.
I think my favourite moment of the show is “ it’s twinkle twinkle little star!”

I finished season 1 yesterday.
I thought it was... fine.
Most of the episodes were passable. I quite liked a few of them (especially the first, the third, the fifth and the eight). The other ones were mostly "ok". Except episode 2 that was pretty bad.
I would have liked more of King Dice, it's a shame he appeared in only one episode.
The animation and the style are what really sold the show, because yeah, they are indeed pretty dope, but if those were downgraded, the show wouldn't be half as enjoyable.
It's a pretty standard show. Could be worse, but could also have been a lot better.
I know they probably wanted to do their own thing without being bond to the original game's story, but the game's concept would have made for a much more interesting narrative, I think.
My favourite episode is deffo ‘ghosts ain’t real’.

?? i didn’t realize how old these animations were i guess! when i was little tiny baby child( currently 16 right now) my mom let me watch Popeye, betty, and other stuff like that. felix the cat was definitely my favorite, though. i didn’t realize so many people didn’t partly grow up on this stuff lol. once i saw cuphead i had such an attachment because it felt to nostalgic- like actually lol. i have sm love for the creators.

Another thing about the characterisation of Cuphead in the show is in roll the dice when he's asked his favourite song and it turns out to be 'the daring young man on the flying trapeze' and I think it's just showing that he's headstrong and probably considers everything stupid he does as heroic in some way but it's a great example of getting a grasp on the character without having him say any exposition. And even though it's literally just a cartoon it shows how much thought was put into it with little details such as the opening scene and Cuphead's favourite song
Hopefully by the next season, it takes place during the events of the game.

I absolutely adore what this show set out to do and be when it comes to animated shows. I was born in the early 2000’s, but all I ever watched were old cartoons like this. Felix the Cat, Betty Boop, Popeye, the Jetsons, and several others. There’s something really charming about those old cartoons and it makes me really happy that there are game and by default, tv show creators that have brought this style of cartoon back into the spotlight

Both the game and this show and such a delicious cup o tea. It’s not anything deep, it’s not trying to push any agenda or anything like that, this show and the makers know exactly what they wanted to do. Just have fun. And that’s what cartoons are all about! Pure unfiltered fun!
