as someone living in an area going through unprecedented heatwaves, i love the unexpected ramble about climate lol, i can relate to that. and as someone who's caught up with the series, I had the same problem re: side characters in the first book and the flatness in the middle, but I think those parts of the story get better with every book.
Clay singing "summertime salad" to the tune of "Summertime Sadness" took me out 🤣

As an Arizona girl i feel your fears on climate issues, although i do worry more for you guys having to be on the Texas "grid" rather than regular energy like everyone else! Makes me scared for you guys if the power goes down during summer! I hope you have a generator or know someone who does!😢 My kids, (and grandkids!), tease me as I call you 3 my "Internet Kids"!! I started watching you when you had about 3 videos and haven't missed a week since, so I feel like I've watched you, Clay & Millie on all your adventures!

I loved this book and absolutely agree with your criticisms. In my opinion the author really improves in the next books (I'm about halfway through the third one now) so I can't wait to hear your thoughts on those as well ☺

Glad you enjoyed this! It's one of my favorite series but I definitely admit book 1 is the weakest. He wrote it when he was 18-20 and before he learned to outline so the pacing suffers a bit. That's not the case in the other volumes. Books 2,3,4 and 6 are some of my favorite books of all time. Book 1 improved when I reread it because there's so so much foreshadowing

I’ve also really liked part 1 of bridgerton so far but the more I think about it, the more I wish for Colin to be ✨obsessed✨with Penelope. That’s why I loved Anthony & Kate because their season was such a slow burn.

I know you didn’t mention it here, but I have to thank you for constantly recommending The Tainted Cup. I’ve been in a slump, partially due to burnout at work, and it was the most delicious mystery novel in a fantasy world. So good and now I’m annoyed that book 2 isn’t out yet.

Something that has really helped me feel less despair is getting involved with Citizen’s Climate Lobby! I’m with the Canadian chapter, but they have organizations all over the world. I feel so much better informed and like I’m actually making a little bit of a difference in my local politics 🙂
I live in El Paso, I am not looking forward to the horrible heat. I read The Heat Will Kill You First a while back ago, I liked it a lot. Climate change is terrifying.
The Water Will Come is also a great book by Goodell. Would recommend.

Always glad to hear someone speaking about the need to take care of our environment and tackle the issues with the climate. Then again, you have just flown to Japan and back.
These mega corporations produce more waste than everyday people going about their lives..
Good thing individuals taking once in a life time trips are not the key contributors to climate change, eh!?

Okay, I read Empire of Silence a couple of weeks ago because a YT video said it was “philosophical science fiction”- I’m pretty sure it was in a video with The Sparrow and maybe Dune as well? And I had exactly your reading experience plus being confused about when the philosophy was going to…kick in? Maybe it emerges in later books in the series?
thats what I'm hoping too! Like it was good, but maybe not super mind blowing to me at this point... but I'm also hopefuly!
It gets more philosophical in the sequels and side stories. This book is basically just the foundation for the leg work in the rest of the series

Thank god, there are people who are not dying for colin bridgerton. I thought I was the only one who was not into this bad pirate boy vibes. I really hope that part 2 redeems him a little. Pen deserves so much more.
Same, I hope in the second part of the season he ends up more like himself again (but more mature)
I have recently binged the first two seasons of Bridgerton, making myself wait a week before I start season 3, my reading has fallen behind 😅😅

I hear they're...worse lol. I don't mind the Netflix show as long as I don't think too hard about it, i find it entertaining and sometimes a show just being that is ok!
I personally enjoyed the show more than the books!
@@robirb_ I found the language exaggerated, not to mention Colin who became a Don Lothario this season. The change of the character's behavior from one season to another is too fast and has no basis in the story.
