Such a good book. Its worth the first 10 hours of confusion I promise
I love the quantification of confusion. I will put it on my list to reread. Maybe I will have a new take with fresh eyes.
Hah! Best comment on ANYTHING I've seen in a long time lol
If you felt Priory of the Orange Tree was overdense, I'd stay far away from the Malazan series (even though it has dragons)...thanks for the review!
Did you like the Malazan series? I am willing to try reading all 10! Thank you for checking out my video!
@@BooksandBusiness I have read the first 3 and I like them a lot so far, but they are dense and complex. Hang on for a bumpy ride! But I found the effort was worth it--really epic stories. I plan on continuing to read more, all 10 eventually.
I am excited to discuss with you once I start them. Adding them to my TBR list@@madmorderan8363
Didn't love it. I guess it feels less fantasy and more court intrigue and period drama (which if you're me who loves the journey aspect of fantasy, kind of sucks).
I'm sad that I'm spoiled by other strong female characters e.g. Eowyn (featuring a cast of excellent and strong women from the Silmarillion), Annabeth (bonus shout out for most of Rick Riordan's women presenting characters, I CRIED at some of their actions and the courage and conviction it would have taken), women characters from Terry Pratchett (Adorabelle, Tiffany, Esk, all the witches and the Monstrous Regiment, really), and even by video games like Elden Ring (and Dark Souls though I'm less familiar with names there) where characterisation is sparse and environmental (but oh my, they are incredible. Milenia, Milena, Ranni, Sellen, Rennala and Rellana, St. Trina, all of them have such incredible stories.)
Sadly, this meant I didn't really find Ead and Tané super intriguing. I like the descriptions of the places, I liked some of the themes and concepts, but I felt characterisation suffered a little at the expense of that.
I feel like it's not a bad book. It's just really not how I imagine fantasy, and I had really high hopes because of reviews. I'll be trying the next novel, but overall I've found the Poppy War much more engaging. There's other authors I'll spend my time on, like Ursula Le Guin and Tanith Lee.
I guess I'll have to keep looking for my next fantasy holy grail author.
Totally fair assessment. Since you mentioned Elden Ring, I really love playing Baldur's Gate. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, taking the time to comment, and taking the time to view my video!
Thanks❤❤❤
Appreciate you checking out the video!
