Ha! You're totally right! I swear I had a mechanic explain the hard start and contribute it to the high compression engine. Turns out that's not the case. Thanks for the correction.
The Yamaha warrior 1700 is one of the most beautiful motorcycles I have ever seen. Way ahead of its time. I wouldn’t mind keeping one completely stock. Once you read more about the history & engineering that went into it, you’ll appreciate the bike more.
lol except for that stupid canon exhaust I did fright n prep at a Yamaha dealer in Tampa Fl back in 2002 when they first came out I though they looked great but when people bought them the first thing they did was get a set of bubs pipes and pick something off the V star chrome goody wall some cover or grips or whatever Yamaha though of to change out and make more money lol
I literally just picked up a 04 warrior. Coming off a 06 gsxr 1000. I really like the bike. A couple things you complained about is preference not really a issue with the bike self. I think they are comfortable to ride. And id much rather take this on a long trip then a super sport. As for power. Eh yeah its not the fastest. But its a trade off. You dont have the weight of the m109r nor the sheer lack of agility. After a while. It becomes more important about useable power/torque. Not max. Thats great you can do 0-60 in less then 3 seconds. but in 2 seconds your going to be in the back seat of the car in front of you. Thats great you can do 150mph. And doing that for any real amount of time is exhausting. IMO as long as the bike can get out of its own way. And be better and faster then 80% of the vehicles on the road. Its a good bike.
I have an 02 number 8 off the line had it since 02 if you was fortunate to get em then there was kits offered from star.racing.pistons,cams,injectors,intake and exhaust turned it into a beast. Had all that installed in 03 super fun bike to ride after that. 107,000 miles and still going strong 👍
@@ericx7476 I have a Cobra exhaust, Barnett clutch kit w/ 85lb springs, BAK w/ K&N filters, Diablo Rosso 3s for rear and Angel GT for front, PC5, NGK Iridium plugs, running Motul motor and gear oil, rebuilt the forks with Traxxion Dynamics fork springs w/ 30W. The bike went from 89.09hp and 72.49 lb-ft of torque to 109.05 hp and 99.04lb-ft of torque... I'm in the process of installing Galfer braided front and rear brake lines with DOT 5.1. We'll see if I dig into porting and a BBK.
No one buys a warrior and keeps it stock. Couple simple mods like v stacks on the throttle bodies, and a performance exhaust really brings this bike to life. I had a 06, went through pegs like crazy lol. Great bike and super reliable.
As a Warrior owner I appreciate your honest criticism. You have there an earlier model. 02-04. Later models had slightly different handlebars and foot positions that make a better riding position but the stock seat does leave alot to be desired. The kickstand just needs to be lubricated.
I agree, the seat isn't the best for long haul, but there are options. My only complaint, with the Warrior, is that it's only a 5 speed. Don't know how many times I've caught myself trying to hit 6th gear.
I bought one new in 2002, the first year. I agree the seat was hideous. I replaced my seat with a mustang two piece saddle and it is a world of difference. As for power, it has plenty. But is not a vrod crusher, but it is no slouch. Even at 21 years old mine still runs great. Still looks well above average for a 21 year old bike.
I believe I'm the guy who bought the blue warrior with the fairing you show in the video. I've been riding everything from snowmobiles/motorcycles name it, since 8 yrs old and I love this bike. Feels flickable like my crf450 (for a 600lb bike) but she don't like to stop. I've learned you have to hit the back break first, get the rear to sag, then hit the front. Otherwise that back tire slides way too easy without much stopping power. Good Video, and thx for the bike...lol...I'm still enjoying it.

My 07 warrior is fine. Yeah, longer rides are brutal, but still fun. These weren't exactly built for just plain old cruising, they were meant for hitting the curves, and powerful take offs. Some of your dislikes I can agree with. One dislike you should have mentioned is that there are VERY few parts that interchangeable with other yamaha models. And practically zero interchangeable internals. For a 600lb bike, they're fairly flickable in traffic. I absolutely love my warrior and can't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon.
I will add that the stock foot pegs are garbage. But a simple raider peg swap makes it a lot better to ride without the feeling of your feet sliding off the pegs.

The Warrior, like every bike, has it's strengths and weaknesses. Some of your complaints (exhaust, handlebars) are legit. Other complaints, IMO, are subjective/opinion/preference. That being said, I have an 05 Midnight with 87,000+ miles that I will likely never sell. I commute to work with it and race the ¼ on weekends. When I bought it (used) 8 years ago, I flew to Virginia Beach and rode it back to Sioux Falls, SD - almost 1500 miles in three days. First time I took a long trip like that on a bike, I was 55 at the time. Was it comfortable for the long ride? Hellz no! Especially since it had forward controls and I have my short-assed legs (28" inseam). But if I was looking for comfort, I would have bought a Gold Wing. So in spite of some shortcomings, should I come across an decent deal, I plan on buying another Warrior to pair with my current one. I like them that much.
@@DaLuke09Warrior The Warrior I was talking about above has over 88,000 miles. These motors are practically bulletproof! As I also stated, should I find a good deal, I'd buy another one. So now I have 2 Midnight Warriors. The second one has a Speed* Stage 4 kit installed. My first Warrior (Fiona) did the ¼ in about 13.08. The second Warrior (Yasuke) does the ¼ in about 12.75. I like it! 😁
Hi Jon, thanks for another great video. Did you do a "Everything I love" video about this bike: Roadstar Warrior. If so, can you please send a link because I have not been able to find it. Thanks!!
I love my 09 warrior and get plenty of compliments from people who are not used to seeing the. Have drag bars on the front and aftermarket 2-1 exhaust. All the dislikes are on point. That kickstand drives me crazy. Wish there would have been more aftermarket parts.

I CLICKED ON HERE TO SEE THE BAD MOUTHING ABOUT BELOVED WARRIOR - I HAVE AN 2005 WITH 10,000 MILES AS OF MARCH 2021 - BUT I ACTUALLY AGREE WITH MOST OF WHAT HE SAYS - im not a great rider so peg scraping isnt an issue for me - my bar and risers and pipe had already been changed by the PO - yes,the seat is uncomfortable on longer rides +45 mins and also NOT a touring bike (ALSO BASED ON FOOT FORWARD PLACEMENT) - the kick stand is a bad design - MOST POWERFUL BIKES CAN GET YOU IN TROUBLE IF YOU'RE NOT CAREFUL THOUGH AND OTHER POINTS MADE HERE WHICH RELATE TO MANY BIKES AND STYLES NOT JUST THE WARRIOR - The ''WARRIOR'' logo on the tank on my 05 is a plastic emblem (not painted) so no issue there , but yeah that would annoy me if the paint was chipping too - The passenger seat on mine is a separate piece and appears more comfortable than this one in the video and mines great because you can take it off and have the whole fender exposed (looks really cool),i put 4 domehead allens in the holes painted to match - I LOVE THIS BIKE AND WILL HOPEFULLY NEVER SELL IT (had it 14 years now)
I find the warrior very beautiful; but it looks heavy..... for now ill stick with my honda magna that can do 0-60 in 4.3 sec....thats fun enough for me
Good review - honest and informative. Aesthetically, I'd like to see a set of clip-ons replace the goofy-looking mini-apes, unfortunately, it looks as though they'd bash into the tank..? A shorter rear fender and replacing the 'bazooka' (exhaust) would probably look pretty cool..?
I love my stock handlebars. I have a 04 warrior. its comfortable as hell for me. I have a Memphis Bullet fairing on mine and it makes touring a whole lot more comfortable. I also have dually pegs on it to help with the wind on the feet. And its amazingly more comfortable. Im also running a V&H exhaust on it.
This bike is the greatest thing since humans figured out how to make fire. Ideally find a 2006+ and with an aftermarket exhaust. I suspect Yamaha put on the bazooka original exhaust as some sort of practical joke. The Bub Enterprises exhaust looks the nicest. Or Cobras. Or V&H. Jon you could research a little more on the bikes that you make videos of. There's so much potential for you to add value. Instead you choose to drive around making shallow observations. But I guess that takes some work that you don't want to put in? Me too buddy, me too!
Did U pick 1 up? This is a great bike, I've ridden sports tourers, dirt bike but this has been my favourite ride! It's a real powerhouse! This dude is right though, the seat def ain't comfortable past 45 min! #NumbBum!
Interesting vid as always, kept me engaged until the end. Now one thing I have to ask concerns your gloves - what are they man ? Do they offer any protection and are they split on both right and left hand ? I'm curious. Anyway, keep up the great work on BOTH your channels :)
I'm definitely due for new gloves. These are what some of your stunt riders wear. Great for feeling the grip/throttle but little to no actual protection. Lol.
I wouldn't say the handlebars are anywhere like ape hangers but what do you do if there straighter then you have to seat more forward I like the look of the bike over all better then the new V Max I wish they would have put the new V Max motor in it but Im just not a big V Twin guy I do like the old V Max just wish it would have had a suspension like this Warrior
Yea I paid more then that for both of mine they are about 3500 to 4500 depending on year and mods I have seen later model ones original owner 3k miles 9r less for 7 the 07 midnight seems to be a bit more valuable.
@@MrCamarokid83 that is a steal for an 08 I paid 4gs for my 07 last year and it deff wasn't in perfect condition or anywhere near what my vision of a warrior is. She is much closer to that vision now tho

If you don't like the bike send it to me I'll take it I have one all I did was change the seat I ride 3 400 miles a day and it doesn't bother me I'm 6-2
I just don't like the way it looks. It's too wide at the tank. I'm not a fan of wide rear tires on any bike, it looks ugly (to me) and it doesn't handle like a more traditional rear tire.

Especially since it had forward controls and I have my short-assed legs (28" inseam). But if I was looking for comfort, I would have bought a Gold Wing. So in spite of some shortcomings, should I come across an decent deal, I plan on buying another Warrior to pair with my current one. I like them that much.
I have an extra warrior actually an 02 with vbak lowered etc
Update: I bought a 2nd Warrior. Another 05 Midnight but this one has a Speedstar Stage 4 installed.
@@dfhowes I just bought an 09 Midnight with 3500 miles on it!
How's it going bro great stuff as always👊🤘
Nice points...😉 but if you like cool factor and power for little 💵 .. change out bars... you got a pretty good boulevarder..
Oh Yamahaa Star Warrior
Your logo's slowly chipping
I have to turn the bike starboard
To get the kickstand tripping
Two thousand nine, it seems passe
But you remain to present day
Oh Yamaha Star Warrior
You're at the core of flipping.
Oh Yamaha Star Warrior
Your pipe's a tin man leg
Tho Yamaha hath engineered
The starter cough and beg
I'm sure your fiiine and very fast
A tribute to An absent past
But Yamaha Star Warrior
The universe is listening.
I had a 2007. Very good handling and good power. They are a little weird I guess but very fun ride!
My Warrior had a yamaha boulevard windshield, churchkey vback, track only computer and Bubbs Jug hugger pipes. I traded out for the Raider and never looked back though.
What's the best performance cruiser you'd suggest
Even the best bike has something to criticize about it.
I CLICKED ON HERE TO SEE THE BAD MOUTHING ABOUT BELOVED WARRIOR - I HAVE AN 2005 WITH 10,000 MILES AS OF MARCH 2021 - BUT I ACTUALLY AGREE WITH MOST OF WHAT HE SAYS - im not a great rider so peg scraping isnt an issue for me - my bar and risers and pipe had already been changed by the PO - yes,the seat is uncomfortable on longer rides +45 mins and also NOT a touring bike (ALSO BASED ON FOOT FORWARD PLACEMENT) - the kick stand is a bad design - MOST POWERFUL BIKES CAN GET YOU IN TROUBLE IF YOU'RE NOT CAREFUL THOUGH AND OTHER POINTS MADE HERE WHICH RELATE TO MANY BIKES AND STYLES NOT JUST THE WARRIOR - The ''WARRIOR'' logo on the tank on my 05 is a plastic emblem (not painted) so no issue there , but yeah that would annoy me if the paint was chipping too - The passenger seat on mine is a separate piece and appears more comfortable than this one in the video and mines great because you can take it off and have the whole fender exposed (looks really cool),i put 4 domehead allens in the holes painted to match - I LOVE THIS BIKE AND WILL HOPEFULLY NEVER SELL IT (had it 14 years now)
Honest opinion, I'm moving from an Sv1000 to a cruiser.
Vtx 1800 or a warrior 1700?
I wish this bike would have a fuel gauge on it
Warning light is the same thing light comes on get ur ass to the gas durp
I have an 02 Warrior agree with your dislikes. I think you missed one. My #1, only 100 miles (esh) per tank of gas...
Wait, you get 100?!?! I only get like 85 before my light comes on with my mean streak.. def an upgrade for me!!😂😂
85? Are you full throttle all the time? Wow!!
My bike goes two into one with a Shorty pipe on it very loud
so what youre saying is, its a great bike and i should buy one. thanks my man
i had a black one prior to covid...sold it due to the low 30s mpg i got justs riding around...is this common?
Giving it hate also gives it recognition.
All of the 1700 cc yamaha are great bikes. Silverado, midnight, etc. Not to mention the inline 4 fjr 1300 and the V4 v max engines they produce.
You forgot their 113 too. The 950 & 1300 are also very good bikes.
I find the warrior very beautiful; but it looks heavy..... for now ill stick with my honda magna that can do 0-60 in 4.3 sec....thats fun enough for me
It's actually light compared to a tuna boat Harley some of there smaller bikes weigh more but it is heavy not for a beginner regardless a lot of power
I like the chassis and engine, not into the riding position, though. My buddy had one with a car tire on the back!
How is it on vibration? Is the engine rubber-mounted?
Where did you order your foot pegs ?
Put a fat tire on the back change the handlebars, and lower it . Wow, you got a bad ass bike.
Absolutely right. That's what I did
This bike is the greatest thing since humans figured out how to make fire.
The big exhaust was there for a reason. Read about the history of this beautiful machine.
Needs 6th gear for those longer rides
Bingo! One of my Biggest gripes. All that torque and no 6th. What a waste. Could comfortably run at 2k RPM at 80mph... but no, they had to skimp.
Own one love it man
hey, you really have a good neighbour ... with all the videos I have seen ....Oh man, I would be a little piss with the noise. LOL
Lol. I do have some pretty cool neighbors. I think they appreciate that I don't fire my bikes up at 630 every morning to commute to work. 🤙
That greyish cable cover on the bars is horrible when it fades. Thinking about some black shrink wrap or something for it
I thought the lean angle was 10 degrees better than every Harley?
Im totally into looking on getting one,
Did U pick 1 up? This is a great bike, I've ridden sports tourers, dirt bike but this has been my favourite ride! It's a real powerhouse! This dude is right though, the seat def ain't comfortable past 45 min! #NumbBum!
You'll love it
Damn, I like the bike. The dislikes are all fixable. Think I'm more of a fan of the motor.
What would be one or two of your favorite bikes to zip around on?
I love it so much that I had to buy one I paid 3400 for a 2005 can u please tell me if that was a good price
Sounds like a good deal by my standards. 💯👌
Good deal ! Gave 5 for my 03 but it only had 5k miles.
Yea I paid more then that for both of mine they are about 3500 to 4500 depending on year and mods I have seen later model ones original owner 3k miles 9r less for 7 the 07 midnight seems to be a bit more valuable.
I'm picking one up Saturday. 2008 for $2900 -12000 miles
@@MrCamarokid83 that is a steal for an 08 I paid 4gs for my 07 last year and it deff wasn't in perfect condition or anywhere near what my vision of a warrior is. She is much closer to that vision now tho
What a whiner everything that you're complaining about is fixable any motorcycle you buy you have to tweak it to fit you if you don't like the bars buy an aftermarket set or build your own that's what I did stop riding the clutch you'll be complaining the clutch don't last next put a windshield on it as far as soft tires and dual rotors that's the price you had to pay for owning a muscle bike
I do like your reviews very informative. But I love my warrior...(switched exhaust and handlebars) so I cried a little during your review, bit I'm ok now...😢
Lol. I have one and as you said scraping the exhaust while leaning is frustrating, but the more I hate is the ^%=#:__* kick stand, is just terrible, lol
Beautiful bike tho
That was a great review!
lean angle is a problem! yes screw what the muffler looks like! sail part is bad too....
5:57 chemical process in making the plastic.... edit cover the plastic with something else home depo has multi color muchos cosas!!!
good video informative what it looks like i could care that is for you yungins....
i think u love that bike so dearly that u own one. good choice.
Why they stopped producing bikes like this? Really don’t see anything like this on the market for past 5 years…
I have one and I love it. It's bullet proof... fast and sexy :)
I thought you just sold that bike,,,,good reasons why you don’t like it though. I always thought those stock exhaust looked like they had some extra coffee cans laying around so they just used them, haha
I own one I have no problem getting my kickstand down maybe need to learn how to ride one better alone how to use the kickstand better
If you don't like the bike send it to me I'll take it I have one all I did was change the seat I ride 3 400 miles a day and it doesn't bother me I'm 6-2
What seat?
What baffles were in that exhaust?
Sounds like Nit Noid Whiny complaints, none of that stuff is a deal breaker and mostly just one's own preferences.
Sound's like your a sport bike fan...lol... maybe you should stick to reviewing them
Yamaha Raider is the power house
Not the same handling or riding position. Raider is more of a relaxed riding style whereas the warrior is more aggressive.
Bro, I hate my kickstand on my 2005 warrior!
Una pregunta,,, es buena moto en general?
Si, es una excelente moto en general. Yo tengo una. Sin fallas.
Well sell it to me and we'll be friends forever 👍
That’s my dream bike lol
Yamahas bad for discontinuing !
Small tanks
Hate that you sold it.
I just don't like the way it looks. It's too wide at the tank. I'm not a fan of wide rear tires on any bike, it looks ugly (to me) and it doesn't handle like a more traditional rear tire.
Yeah, the wide rear tire messes with the handing for sure. But the warrior makes it work. Definitely not a traditional style though.
My Raider had a big back tire and was still, even with the rake, one if the best handling cruisers that I have ever ridden...hands down!
Отличное видео!
Hey I would encourage you to try a Vstrom 1000 if you ever want to try an adventure bike. You'll honestly fall in love once ridden. (wheelie machine) 2014 and up preferred. "Fun factor" is high... Thanks for your work Jon. Big fan.... 👍
Icon💪
Can you review a 2020 HD FXST
It's a drag bike
Can confirm. 😁
un related to video...Jon i have a 2010 v rod do you have an opinion on the best rear tire for it???
I couldn't tell you on the best rear tire. I owned the vrod for a short while but never did research on tire options. Sorry, man!
@@JonsMotoGarage my bad I thought you still had one...hahaha
@@rahowardjr all good!
If you can't get the kickstand down probably shouldn't be riding .IMHO 🤷
Selling it?
Ok,a hater with a motorcycle crash it mentality, righty K then
Yer they suck after about 2h of riding
The wiring is pure aids and not as powerful
as people made out
In one video do you say it sucks in the other one you love it? Are you bipolar or did I miss something
Sounds like a YamaHarley
Um, no. There are no hardleys that sound like these.
I like them but never owned or rode one . The need drag bars ,bullet fairings , a rap around short rear fender . The rim and tire need to be wider . BAMMMM now it looks like e drag bike. Out of the factory I don't agree with the way it is
Not a fan of these cruisers. Worst looking exhaust
