Good stuff, Greg! I've always considered our rig to be our "bug-out bag". Our daily driver has a get-home bag that fills in the gaps to make it to either the Yukon or the Jeep if need be. And along with protection, a "long range" option can also provide food if you're out long enough!
Right on! Yes, very good point about the long-range ‘protection’ being able to help support when it comes to food. That is also my thought - having the ability to gather food in the wild is very important.
I would personally add fishing gear, if you can be near a body of water that is deep enough to be a possible food source, and mention that your long distance protection could be used for securing food as well, just make sure you keep your licenses up to date and legal, as soon as society returns to normal somebody is going to take offense at how you thrived during the collapse. The aliens can find you via the Starlink…hand cranked charging radio will keep you connected without detection, 😂. I use MREs. Love the diesel heater idea and camouflage! Where does the dog and family go? 😊. Living with incoming hurricanes preps you to bug out, I’d add first aid kit, bear spray, mosquito spray, and pepper spray for all the nasty critters. P. S. Your son did an excellent editing job!
AHHAHHA, love it! I think you’re right about aliens locating me with my Starlink signal. AHHAHAHA. Ya, MREs is a very legit option. Good question about the dog and family. We don’t have a dog, but I do have a wife and 3 kids. We have a second Jeep that would act as a second bug-out rig. For this video, I am mainly just showcasing the primary vehicle. Very nice setup and thanks for sharing. I’m all for being prepared also but if the country or world really goes into a shtf situation, any desperate person (and there would be potentially millions), with a weapon or even the will to take you out while you’re sleeping or unaware would be able to take everything you have. It’s cool to feel prepared like this but it also makes for an extremely enticing loot drop.
Thanks brother! Ya, it was so fun to do with him. And he is a ⭐️ when it comes to editing! 👊🏼😄 I think only other thing I want to add to my rig for this an EMP protection. Which has been a solid recommendation in the comments.

When you say you have a custom diesel heater it looks super compact - how is that built (is there a youtube video somewhere showing how to build it?) - how do you use it (does it stay outside the tent and pipe the heat in or do you run it in the tent (does that not cause fumes)?
Hi 👋 I feature it on my video called Summer. Where I contrast it at the end of the video to the air conditioner that I have. One question how long you actually think that roof top tent will last in a worse case scenario you’re out there months maybe even years ? I would invest in tools to build shelter have my vehicle as light as possible and ready to roll in a flash all that fancy gear will do no good if you had to fly out of there buy you a cheap small travel trailer you can drag up there I have a 1990 holiday rambler travel trailer in excellent shape solar on it large tires and I lifted it it’s 25ft set up for off grid i pull it with my 1998 suburban 2500 4x4 7.4 it’s also set up for off grid just incase I’ve had my travel trailer in some crazy places even 4x4 wouldn’t try to go lol
Your setup sounds awesome! And, you make a great point about being able to build a more permanent shelter. Definite food for thought! Regarding the Ursa Minor Jeep camper top. Hahahahha! Great point! 100%. Short answer is: we have another Jeep that would support sleeping 2. And my Jeep can sleep 3 (2 upstairs and 1 downstairs). So … goal indeed would be to get all of us out … funny thing is … my wife said the same thing after watching 😂😂😂 Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

Yes, I think a family of 4 could live out of this setup, however, you would likely need a small ground tent as well. The Ursa Minor can sleep 2 comfortably, and you could configure the inside of the Jeep to sleep 2, but it might be more practical to do a ground tent. Thanks for watching and for the comment! Interesting premise, is you rig ready for bug out? I would say no you’re not ready. Planning to leave your home, extended family and your community you MUST think and plan like the pioneers traveling west in the 1800 s. There was a reason for the Calistoga wagon! They had to take Everything to survive with them. You have a very nice camping setup, but you don’t have the food, tools, or equipment to survive long term( more than a month) please review your option and benefits of bugging in. Time and money spent on improving your home for SHTF is well spent
You make a great point, and I totally agree! My best estimate would be fairly easy survival for about 3-4 weeks. From there, I would need to restock a food source, etc. Thank you for the great idea about bugging in. Definitely something to consider! Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Awesome video Greg! I love the entire content with some really good tips for bugging out. My only complaint is you were not watching @flyfisher530 at the beginning! 😂
You live in California, you're F'd in a SHTF situation. Your fancy Volvo most likely won't run and if it does, you'll never make it to your Jeep, let along to your bug out spot. If you're not already in your bug out spot when the SHTF the zombies will get you before you can get out of town or city. Everyone will get the warning at the same time and have the same idea, get out of town. All the roads will be clogged and even the trails will have vehicles stuck everywhere. Your best hope is to get advanced notice so you can get the jump on everyone else. Get involved and volunteer with your local law enforcement agencies. They may give you a heads up of what's going to happen. Check out the book, "Strategic Relocation" by Joel Scousen. All the stuff you show here is great if you are already in your bug out spot. There are some great spots in the Sierra's to hunker down but there are also millions of people in California that are going to have the same idea as you. Good luck!
What great feedback! Thank you for taking the time to provide all this detail. Including the book! I’ll need to check that out. So awesome! Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

My personal thoughts on your 'plan.' This is in no way meant as a disparagement. This is meant as a Critical Thinking Critique (CTC.) With that being said... LOCATION: 1. Commiefornia -⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(negative 5 stars) VIDEO: 1. Well though out, produced and executed presentation. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 2. Intro. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ VEHICLE: 1. Great idea having your Bug-Out Vehicle in a storage locker, away from prying eyes. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 2. Jeep as Bug Out Vehicle ⭐ Too small. Too lightweight, and it's gasoline powered. 2. "Bugging out" to the Sierras ⭐⭐ 3. Rooftop Tent ⭐ 4. Having your only shelter attached to and needing to be deployed and retracted in order to 'go in a moments notice.' ⭐ 5. Awning attached to vehicle.⭐ 6. Having Starlink Portable ⭐⭐⭐⭐ But it should be secured and able to roll in the instance where you need to get the hell outta Dodge. 7. Solar Panels should be attached, secured, to the vehicle and able to roll in the instance where you need to get the hell outta Dodge.⭐⭐⭐ 8. Vehicle Color (White)⭐(Amazon has 3-D cut mil camo available in contiguous ;engths of your choosing.) Your Jeep is extremely limiting in an actual Bug Out situation. You'd be better served with a heavier, more robust 4x4 capable. Something like a Ford, E-350, 4x4, 7.3L PS Diesel. Diesel engine vehicles - '96 - '02 - are far superior to gas engines for a number of reasons: 1. They run on multiple types of fuel: diesel, trans fluid, old motor oil, waste veg oil, kerosene, etc., etc.. 2. Once diesel engines are running they can run as long as you keep adding fuel. 3. No spark plugs 4. No distributor 5. No Coil or coil packs 6. Etc. GEAR: 1. Well thought out. 2. Well executed.
Honestly, this is one of the best comments I’ve ever received. I love the constructive feedback. You’ve definitely got my wheels turning on this topic more now. I’m going to re-read this as it’s super helpful. I appreciate your thoughtful approach here! 💯 Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Sounds good but unrealistic. In case of catastrophic event you would probably run out of gas and won't make it to Sierras. Everyone would be on the roads trying to get out causing major traffic. Gas stations would be empty fast or may not work. And let's say you do make it to mountains, you only have days of food, poor shelter, I doubt there would be enough animals left to hunt.
You make a good point. In terms of gas, I live right on the edge of town and can get to 6,000 feet in the Sierra in about 40 minutes. For food, I think I could comfortably survive for around 2-3 weeks. But beyond that, I’d definitely need to have some options like hunting. You make some great points, and have got me thinking! Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Yes, indeed. A few months back I moved it to storage as my wife and I have 3 teenagers who are all driving. Our driveway was becoming a parking lot - and we also use the storage for a bunch of other items (general storage). I wanted to ‘play that up’ a bit for this video … making it seem a bit like it’s just there waiting for me for a bit of dramatic effect. 😄 Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Great question! Well, I’m still a relatively small channel and I had a buddy with a similar size channel do a video that showcased a rifle for much of the video. His channel is an overlanding channel. His analytics tanked for his whole channel after that video. He said it took about a year to see his stats return to normal. I know there are many channels that showcase guns, I just couldn’t risk it yet with regard to losing my reach at this early stage of my channel. So, for now I’m going with blur. But, if you’re interested - - it’s a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm. It’s a really compact single stack handgun that is perfect for CCW. Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Great question. Unfortunately, there have been instances on channels (similar to mine) that fully displayed firearms (for hunting, or sport shooting) and after that video posted, their views tanked and it took months and in some cases more than a year for their channel to recover. Not because people didn’t want to watch anymore, but because of possible throttling by YT. I went ahead and blurred it out just to be cautious of this. As my channel is still small, I can’t afford to sustain any throttling by YT. But here, I’m happy to tell you what is carried. It’s a S&W M&P Shield 9MM. Super compact because it’s a single stack. Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Ya, I know what you mean. Being that I’m a small channel - I just can’t risk any YT controversy like my buddy had happen. Trust me, I wish I didn’t blur it out. But I think it’s best right now.
Well in the event of a nuclear attack you wouldn’t be able to get to your jeep and it wouldn’t run anyways from the first EMPs in the atmosphere. Also all your electronic equipment won’t work. I have my jeep EMP protected and my power stations, solar, flash lights and any other critical electronic gear.
A very solid point! While my scenario was aliens attacking 👽 (highly unlikely) an EMP is definitely the most likely issue. I’ve wanted to add an EMP protector. Do you have any recommendations there? Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
That's the right vehicle for sure. But Starlink? Power station? 🙄 "Newbie" indeed. Especially for that kind of nationwide emergency which would *actually* cause you to bug out, every single ounce of weight and cubic inch of space would be needed solely for those things that keep you alive, many of which you did cover. And those heavy and bulky back seats should already be gone. That Jeep (with awesome Ursa Minor) should be stacked to the rafters with NOTHING but food, water, clothes, "protection" items and only those things that will actually keep you alive. Space lost for comfort items will only shorten your life. Newbie.
AHHAHAHAHA, sorry if you feel like you were misled to believe I’m homeless? Not sure where I went wrong in confusing you in that way. I have a job and a home, and a Jeep. A wife and 3 kids too. 😊 Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

Your son nailed it! Great job
He is super talented for only being 14! Kids these days 😅 Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
The aliens can find you via the Starlink…hand cranked charging radio will keep you connected without detection, 😂.
Thank you so much for the nice compliment about my son. 🙏🏼 Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Great video bud. Your son did a great job filming and editing. As always, very entertaining and some good info to boot!
Thanks Daniel! Really appreciate the kind words - will make my son 😊 for sure! He’s getting good, I just might need to have him on full time! AHHAHAHAH!
You make a great point! Something for me to consider for sure! Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Great video Greg!! Love the father/son collaboration 🤜, in a real end of the world situation hopefully you can get to your jeep quick!
Thanks brother! Ya, it was so fun to do with him. And he is a ⭐️ when it comes to editing! 👊🏼😄 I think only other thing I want to add to my rig for this an EMP protection. Which has been a solid recommendation in the comments.
Great video Greg. I also include a knife as part of my PPE. It’s one of those multi use tools you just should have.
Yep, agreed. I have a good buck knife and a good leatherman as well. Totally agree as necessary items. Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

@@Venture2Roam Hahahahhahah! I thought you might like that brutha! 👊🏼 Good to see you last week - if only for a little bit. 🫶🏼
I really enjoyed your video. Your bugout rig, supplies, and other preps look top-notch and well-thought-out. The diesel heater is on my list of things to do and I really like the camo too. I have a ghillie suit for myself but i need a ghillie suit for my SUV. BTW, your son did a great job editing that into video. He should do video editing for a fee for a little extra walking around money.
It’s comments like this that keep me going! So glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

I'm considering a small trailer for keeping a store of necessities. The Jeep is my daily driver and occasional off-road toy so it isn't practical for constant storage.
That is a great idea! Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Great video Greg. Also kudos to your son for the great editing/filming!!
Thanks brother! It was so fun to do with him. And, he didn’t mind getting paid a little 💵. He’s an entrepreneur… what can I say?? Thanks for always being an awesome supporter Caleb! Much love homie! ✌️
If it all goes downhill will starlink still work if you cant pay your subscription?
Great question … short answer … don’t know! Other than I have it on autopay right now. Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
When you say you have a custom diesel heater it looks super compact - how is that built (is there a youtube video somewhere showing how to build it?) - how do you use it (does it stay outside the tent and pipe the heat in or do you run it in the tent (does that not cause fumes)?
Hi 👋 I feature it on my video called Summer. Where I contrast it at the end of the video to the air conditioner that I have. If you want more details on how to build one, and if you have Instagram, reach out to me there and I can get you the details. Cheers! Thanks for watching and for the comment! If there truly is an "end of the world" event, IMO, it's best to just find where the red X is on the ground. I was in the USAF during the cold war and just the nuclear capabilities on our one base was mind numbing.
Dang! Ya, you might have a point! There is some mind numbing things out there. But, it’s best to be prepared! 😄 Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Links to many of the items would be cool. Those crates, etc…
The boxes are unfortunately no longer made by Front Runner. They were called the Wolfpack. There might be some 3rd party websites that still have inventory of them to sell. Now Front Runner makes the Wolfpack pro. They are similar and I’m told you can put them on legs like I do in my other videos. Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

They are actually incredibly durable. Folks like Venture4WD and The Road Chose Me have lived in them full time for 3-5 years at a time with no maintenance. Thanks for watching and for the comment! Great job on the video and ideas. Your son did an excellent job. So do you have more bugout vehicles because of all your teens and wife? I know you're not leaving them behind!

Is it possible minimalist for a family of 4, 10 & 13 yo kids.
I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Interesting premise, is you rig ready for bug out?

When I watched it back, I realized I failed to give you a shout out for the Ramen! Ha ha ha! Glad you enjoyed it brother. 🙏🏼🙌🏼👊🏼🫶🏼
@@TrailNewbie lol I actually haven’t been eating too much Ramen. It’s summer so it’s too hot.
Good luck!

My personal thoughts on your 'plan.' This is in no way meant as a disparagement. This is meant as a Critical Thinking Critique (CTC.) With that being said...
LOCATION:
1. Commiefornia -⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(negative 5 stars)
VIDEO:
1. Well though out, produced and executed presentation. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
2. Intro. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
VEHICLE:
1. Great idea having your Bug-Out Vehicle in a storage locker, away from prying eyes. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
2. Jeep as Bug Out Vehicle ⭐ Too small. Too lightweight, and it's gasoline powered.
2. "Bugging out" to the Sierras ⭐⭐
3. Rooftop Tent ⭐
4. Having your only shelter attached to and needing to be deployed and retracted in order to 'go in a moments notice.' ⭐
5. Awning attached to vehicle.⭐
6. Having Starlink Portable ⭐⭐⭐⭐ But it should be secured and able to roll in the instance where you need to get the hell outta Dodge.
7. Solar Panels should be attached, secured, to the vehicle and able to roll in the instance where you need to get the hell outta Dodge.⭐⭐⭐
8. Vehicle Color (White)⭐(Amazon has 3-D cut mil camo available in contiguous ;engths of your choosing.)
Your Jeep is extremely limiting in an actual Bug Out situation. You'd be better served with a heavier, more robust 4x4 capable. Something like a Ford, E-350, 4x4, 7.3L PS Diesel.
Diesel engine vehicles - '96 - '02 - are far superior to gas engines for a number of reasons:
1. They run on multiple types of fuel: diesel, trans fluid, old motor oil, waste veg oil, kerosene, etc., etc..
2. Once diesel engines are running they can run as long as you keep adding fuel.
3. No spark plugs
4. No distributor
5. No Coil or coil packs
6. Etc.
GEAR:
1. Well thought out.
2. Well executed.
Honestly, this is one of the best comments I’ve ever received. I love the constructive feedback. You’ve definitely got my wheels turning on this topic more now.
I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
You keep your Jeep in a storage garage? 😮
I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Why blur the gun?
I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
@@TrailNewbie dang that’s crazy, was just curious!
Excellent!!! 😂

Why blur out your handgun?
I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
@@TrailNewbiemy S&W M&P9 1.0 Shield is one of my carry pistols. I would also have an AR and my .22lr bolt action takedown.
There’s really no reason to blur or hide firearms. TH-cam has tons of firearms related channels.
I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
That’s why I’m looking for a 12V “one wire” Cummins Dodge Ram 4x4 with a camper on the back.
Newbie.
You make some great points! Definitely give me some things to consider! Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

If an EMP goes off...none of those electricals will work. Beginning with the jeep
