Well Genesis' biggest hit was Mama. Would be interesting to see what or who you guys think the lyrics are about. That said, you could look at early Genesis, with Collins on drums and Gabriel on vocals.
This is a very haunting song. I get chills every time I hear this song. Phil Collins music is fantastic. He has many great hits and with Genesis. Still Loving the rewind tonight.
That performance is why this man is legend and so passionate about his drumming and this song absolutely nails it without an doubt and shows the younger generation how it's done. It's like now you come perform and fellow that performance I dare you. I would definitely not like to perform after that for sure. He killed it.
This guy was a drummer first and loved it. Became a singer because Genesis wanted him to do it. He is a great songwriter, and plays multiple instruments. He is also an actor in more than one movie. A lot of his music was used in Miami Vice, and he played a role in that show. After he went solo, he matched the Beatles and Michael Jackson in record sales. He is a Pom, but apparently the rest of the world loves his music more than the poms. Do you think you should check him out now?
Phil Collins started as the Drummer of Genesis. He was also the lead singer of that band after his friend Peter Gabriel left to spend time with his family.
Keep in mind Phil Collins was the drummer for Genesis.Ive seen this guy live 5 times....so I’m older, trust me when I tell you, no auto tune, no click tracks - real talent like this was everywhere in the 1980’s. You can use billboard charts for music as your guide to what was popping off at the time. It’s all good stuff.
It’s great seeing you lads recognize a great song. The first time I heard it on its release in the 80s it made the hair stand up on the back of my neck - it still does to this day!
It’s a classic, iconic song that gets tons of radio play steady ever since it’s release. Awesome song :) LOL your surprise when he got on drums - He is a drummer by trade lol - always was very unique to have lead singer be the drummer too :)
I was at a concert of Phils in the 80s and he opened with this number. Fantastic. He also brought on Eric Clapton.. Came out with ears ringing but fantastic evening and great memories. Also saw him and so many other great acts at Live Aid.. 💖💖👏👏👏 He, was always a drummer first
Okay, I'm really trying here but Phil is a huge British icon, drummer/singer, how do you guys not know this?? This song is still huge no matter where you hear it. I saw him do this front and center and you honestly did yourselves a disservice by skipping a good portion of the entrance. That is the point of how he does this performance. You can hear a pin drop that's how mesmerized he has his audience. Even just for yourselves you should watch it again..the whole thing.
Boys, Phil is highly regarded as one of the best drummers in history. As an artist he is one of the greatest as well. I believe he has had a #1 hit in 3 different decades. Glad you are starting to hear his stuff.
Phil also had music on the TV show Miami Vice and was a frequent guest. One of the first to use lazers. Going to live concerts then was so cool, no silly backup dancers just raw talent.
You boys have missed a legend. Phil Collins is an amazing song writer, world class drummer, great entertainer and an amazing singer. He started out as the drummer for Genesis before becoming the front man and then going solo. Between his solo career and Genesis material, you two have a ton of songs to go watch. You missed an entire generation of great music - long before singers had to use auto tune to make themselves sound good. If you really want a treat, look up, "Phil Collins Chester Thompson drum duet" here on TH-cam. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
He was a drummer before he was a singer in a group called Genesis and Peter Gabriel was the singer and Gabriel left the band and went on his own, then Collins became the frontman and everybody found out, This guy can sing, also he was a very good drummer, maybe one of the best!
Phil and the original “waiting for the beat drop “. Sadly, he had to stop drumming because of nerve damage. He has to sit in a chair during his performances. But his son Nicholas is now drumming for his dad and is just as good and is only 19.
Hahahaha he wasn't on the phone that's his microphone because he needs his hands free coming up here in a few minutes to blow us all away! 😂😂 Epic performance!
One of my favorite all time musicians . Brilliant drummer, singer, songwriter. Song written after he knew his wife cheating on him. Long story short..divorced and remarried. He's amazing. Great all the adjectives that describe Phil Collins. He had surgery for neck and other injuries from playing drums for decades. . His son actually went on tour with him and can play drums and other instruments just like his dad. He filled in on the drums for In the Air Tonight on tour. I will reply in comments with Nick on drums. Great reaction guys.
He started as a drummer for Genesis he's a great drummer , thats why the crowd starts going going off when he gets close to the drum kit they know what's coming
Le: This was so PERFECT that I even told my father for him to say: What are u talking about? Collins knows everything that deals with instruments, music, that mans a MASTER.
Before he took on the role of lead vocalist for Genesis, he was drummer and backing vocalist for many, many years in Genesis. He is, undoubtedly, a great drummer and this is not his greatest drumming example. You should hear some of the crazy timings early Genesis used to play to in songs like Dance on a Volcano. Note also, that in this live performance there were two drummers playing together, Phil Collins and Chester Thompson. I was back stage at Live Aid, Wembley, in 1985. Phil Collins played a live set at Wembley and then jumped on a Concorde, flew to NYC and played a live set there for the same event which had two simultaneous concerts going, one in London and one in New York.
