Absolutely. All our cameramen are fishermen too. To haul them around and make them watch the hosts fish without an opportunity to fish themselves would be cruel. And we like to keep our crew happy. We actually set aside an entire day for the crew to fish after we were done filming the show.
@@randomdude6637 I respect your opinion but I know several experienced fishermen and guides that agree with me that the Northern is the better fighting fish in their way of thinking!
I aspire to be doing this some day. Just amazing. And fishing it’s always great to watch some fishing in ya home area! Love y’all from the great North aha, thank u for everything y’all do and congrats for everything y’all have earned!
First pike I ever got was on a rooster tail with 4lb test while trout fishing lol ended up being 32in when I got it to the bank, hooked on the outside of the jaw. Immediately changed my target species 😉
I've been told you should not swish the fish back and forth. The water is meant to go only one way through the gills. I understand that just holding them loosely until they recover is the way to go.
It's best if you can just hold them upright and let them pump their own gills until they're ready to go. The gills function best with water moving in one direction across them, and swishing back and forth forces water the wrong direction across the gills. Think of it like mouth-to-mouth resuscitation when you're already breathing on your own.
Haha, did I just watch American fishermen fishing out of an old 12" aluminium boat with a used 15hp Yamaha? I was so ready for them to drag the 200hp bassboat behind the ATV.
+SwedishDylan That's a fancy setup compared to what I use for pike fishing. The 12' boat I use is quite a bit more beat up and ugly. I use a 3.3hp motor too. Both are easy to carry to the small lakes which have no road access... and those are the good lakes for fishing. They mentioned the rubber net, and that's the high dollar item I use, a good stout rubber net. Well, my Okuma Komodo is a bit high dollar too. I have a 200hp bass boat also, a Stratos 201 Pro, that I rarely use because I enjoy the small hike-in lakes so much. Time to sell the big boat!
All pikes are my best friends. Though they need to stop tearing up my bass lures. But when bass aren't coming my way, I call out for pikes and they pull through any day!
There is a new lure that pike and bass absolutely love. It is the 7.5 inch Squid swim bait. Soft rubber and so life like that the fish don`t hesitate to eat it! It works best with no added weight. Just a slow retrieve and BAM!! They just tear it up! Just rig it weed-less with a single hook, and that`s it.
That's a POV HD. Google the name and you'll find everything you need. They're a great system. We use them extensively for underwater and above water footage in our shows.
Ill be fishing about 120miles NE of there in 5 days. What these guys said at about 7:00 is so true. We take 20ft lunds with 250hp Varado's but we absolutely love to rent the camps 12ft aluminum boats and throw on a trolling motor and go piking or brookie fishing. Just a rod, tacklebox and of course, the bug spray.....
Went out pike fishing a few times this year so far no luck. Hoping to find get a few again soon! Went out on saterday and the day before was 80 degrees and dropped sown to 40 degrees so fishing was bad
Berkley Vanish. Just about any flouro we've ever tried has worked well for short pike leaders. Now if you're looking for cast-able flouro that is fisherman friendly in cold temps, that's a different story.
I like your show! You do a good job of explaining what bait you use. However, I think you should go in more detail of what else your using like specifics on rod and reel combos and line and leader type.
Have you ever fished Chequamegon Bay on Lake Superior? I fish it regularly during the open water season but have yet to do so on the ice. There are trophies of just about every species out there!
Nice action! How were you rigged? I've been giving more consideration to minimizing terminal tackle, tying everything direct, except a small snap on the business end when fishing suspending lures, so they stay upright on the stop. Have also lightened my leaders when pike fishing, currently using 30# flouroclear flouro-coated copolymer leaders, with seemingly more strikes, and no bite-offs thus far.
You can use both, but the main idea is to "match the hatch." Consider the main forage in the lake when you are selecting colors, but also consider water clarity as well.
Another great episode. Thank you for bringing us with you!!! What rods and reels are you using for casting these cranks for pike? I am looking for a good crankbait rod combo for pike, walleye, and bass.
you know it's a good video when your 5 seconds away for grabbing your pole and heading out to the boat. Have u ever fished Lake Ripley in Cambridge Wisconsin
Can you tell me how to grab tha fish? I'm always scared when i got a pike on my line because im afraid to put my fingers in his mouth so? can you tell me how?
Sure thing! We have your covered. Check out this link for a post with photos on how to properly hold a Pike or Muskie! Here is the link to our forums: www.in-depthoutdoors.com/community/forums/topic/proper-hold-for-pikemuskie/
I hope you don't mind me asking, but what kind of camera is that you have on the brim of your hat? I'd like to get something so I can upload some videos this summer and for ice fishing next season, thank!
Hey man I've bee up to the exact same spot for four years now and I leave today to go up there again we've stayed at bush lake camp before any extra tips to help me catch bigger pike I've yet to catch a big one
yeah over here I think the zander record is around 20lb which is a real big un,I'd be over the moon with a 10lber.I heard over in Holland they get em over 30lb,thats massive for a zander.
the record size is about the same, catching a big (over 8lb)zander is probably easier, our fisherman eat too many walleye. A local indian tribe(Seneca) just did an electro-survey and found a 16 pound 4 oz walleye at Kinzua Dam, our state record is 16-9. They are harvesting her eggs and releasing her. If the fish survives a year, the record may fall.
Hi, I am a beginner fisher wanting to catch walleye, bass, pike and musky. Mainly pike, and I was wondering if this is a good setup 20 pound mono line with 80 pound Fluro leader.
+Nate Lush I changed it does this sound better? 30 pound braid on a 6 foot medium rod with a baitcaster reel and like a black leader I found at the bottom of my tackle box I think it is a wire leader.
now that is what i call a pike i use to catch fish like that on a lake i fish on but the state lowered the water to work on the dam fishing was never the same
We had a great article in our forums about grabbing these toothy critters. Here is the link:www.in-depthoutdoors.com/community/forums/topic/proper-hold-for-pikemuskie/#post-1622076
Hi there anyone fish in Aug before, for Pike, im going to Six Mile Lake with no gps onboard boat, what you guys recommend using, what lures etc for this month
James if you don't mind me asking what were the name and specs of your rod and reel?? i got a old 6'6'' Pflueger trion rod & reel it works but its a job getting them bigger pike in, and my old muskie rods are just too heavy to lug around, so im looking to upgrade.,
Absolutely. All our cameramen are fishermen too. To haul them around and make them watch the hosts fish without an opportunity to fish themselves would be cruel. And we like to keep our crew happy. We actually set aside an entire day for the crew to fish after we were done filming the show.
Where can I sign up?
This is my favorite pike fishing video… wish you guys would do more of these.
I love fishing for Pike, my favorite fish ever
+pikemaster Yeah I love them too, I would love to catch musky more but as everyone knows they are much harder to catch!
Contrary to popular belief, The Northern Pike is actually a better fighting fish than the Muskellunge. They are a more vicious and voracious fish!!
MrGoldenthroat all my experinces say that musky fight better then pike.

You guys are the best!
I smiled the whole time watching this video. Great job guys! Can not wait to get out this spring
Awesome...just plain awesome. Learned a lot from this video....Thanks!
Amazing box. I found them at a fishing show when I was 15 (I'm 23 now) and have had the same box for all these years. Really worth the investment.
I'm in love with this lake!! No lakes like this in my country, shallow and crystal clear.
I love watching these guys
You guys are having some serious fun right there !!!! Cool vid !
Thanks for video
what an amazing day! 12 hours away... I really should work out a trip.
All of your videos are awesome bud
Loved this!
Thank you Anthony!
That looks like pike fishing heaven.
Great video
gold x rap? nice job gentlemen! sure looks like a beautiful place!
First pike I ever got was on a rooster tail with 4lb test while trout fishing lol ended up being 32in when I got it to the bank, hooked on the outside of the jaw. Immediately changed my target species 😉
Awesome guys!
When I went fishing for pike it was really shallow and I could see the pike strike and it was AWESOME!
I've been told you should not swish the fish back and forth. The water is meant to go only one way through the gills. I understand that just holding them loosely until they recover is the way to go.
water has to pass the gills that is why you move them some or they will take 10 x longer and might take too long and not recover
It's best if you can just hold them upright and let them pump their own gills until they're ready to go. The gills function best with water moving in one direction across them, and swishing back and forth forces water the wrong direction across the gills. Think of it like mouth-to-mouth resuscitation when you're already breathing on your own.
This is one of those "you cant fish with corn" myths.
Looks like it was a really good time.
very nice fish!
This spot would be perfect for some fly fishing.
Accurate!

Carl H sadly I don’t even have a motor I just row haha
Welp, the boat doesn’t catch fish, people do. Nice vid.
Northern Pike rule the earth! They reign supreme!!!!!!!!!
Love your videos
All pikes are my best friends. Though they need to stop tearing up my bass lures. But when bass aren't coming my way, I call out for pikes and they pull through any day!
Great job james as always. You should do some local shows this spring. Maybe pool 2,3 or 4?
I guess it was the excitement of the moment! Lol XD
There is a new lure that pike and bass absolutely love. It is the 7.5 inch Squid swim bait. Soft rubber and so life like that the fish don`t hesitate to eat it! It works best with no added weight. I love fishing 🎣💟

I love back to basic fishing old school
Like to use old school tackle ...rods ..reels..
That lake is like in the Jurassic period still...amazing predators...and all big!...I can imagine there's a lot of perch, big perch too.
nice vids don't quit
You guys should consider some of the prairie potholes in southern MN for crappies and walleyes!
I gotta go there for sure! Thanks for posting! Amazing fish!! How much do they charge for a weekend? Or through the week?!
Ill be fishing about 120miles NE of there in 5 days. What these guys said at about 7:00 is so true. Great show... Im with cotaloc on his saying...
AWESOME VIDEO!!!! :p
Thanks Jon!
Great video, really enjoyed it. What month of the year were y'all up there?
Pike are my favorate fish ive caught 8 so far this year biggest one of this year was 36 inches. A buddy of mine caught a 26lber a d 45 inches
Went out pike fishing a few times this year so far no luck. Hoping to find get a few again soon! Went out on saterday and the day before was 80 degrees and dropped sown to 40 degrees so fishing was bad
FYI - Otter is owned by Rhino Rotational Molding out of Maple Lake, MN. Rapala has ZERO ownership stake in Otter. Rapala did purchase Strikemaster.
Berkley Vanish. Just about any flouro we've ever tried has worked well for short pike leaders. Now if you're looking for cast-able flouro that is fisherman friendly in cold temps, that's a different story.

Is this lake near jelicoe everytime I pass through jelicoe I see the green lakes they look so Nice great vid fellas
Have you ever fished Chequamegon Bay on Lake Superior? I fish it regularly during the open water season but have yet to do so on the ice. There are trophies of just about every species out there!
What knot were you guys using for the 60lb flouro? I can never seem to get the knots just right with that heavy line.
What line do you use on your spinning reels for pike? You mentioned the 60 LBS floro lead but not the actual line. Thank you!
-Colton
20 lb Sufix braid.
Thanks!!
Nice action! How were you rigged? I certainly can imagine fly fishing on that pond for pike.
Super tanker!!!
What lures do you recommend? U mentioned Rapala X-rap... Minnow or jointed lures and what colours? Thanks
You can use both, but the main idea is to "match the hatch." Consider the main forage in the lake when you are selecting colors, but also consider water clarity as well.
Love your guy's fishing show watch it every Sunday its on. What was the best hard bait for pike in your opinion?
Those flouro leaders? I have the sound down so I apologize if you mentioned it in the video.
did you ever go back there with the fly rod
Not yet but it is always in the back of our mind calling to us.
Have not fished it, but you must have been headed out on the water. How did you end up?
+InDepthOutdoorsTV Absolutely slayed some large mouth bass and missed a decent sized pike. I was just using a white spinner bait.
Glad you had fun!
+InDepthOutdoorsTV If u ever do find your self at Lake Ripley you should let me know.
What are u guys using for leaders u might of said but not sure
Can you tell me how to grab tha fish? I'm always scared when i got a pike on my line because im afraid to put my fingers in his mouth so? can you tell me how?

wow did you guys know you were gonna flip jeez that was close
Your rods look light or at least not heavier than your average MH bass rod. How heavy were those rods?
Medium to Medium Heavy.
This amazing video should be the official trailer for the TH-cam Channel. Like is you agree
What length, weight, etc., rods were you guys using?
This is how you fish central Ontario, small boats rock up there.
ontario has 250,000 lakes
Ikr it's crazy
I know I'm glad to be Canadian and living in Ontario you never run out of hot spots to fish :)
seriously?
Time to plan a trip to Ontario then ;)
Gotta start saving money!
Nigel to
That's a B&B Bait Box. Model 966. Google them for more info.
the x rap that you were using was 8 cm or 10 cm?
#10
What month were you fishing up there? Been looking to go to southwestern part of Quebec June 7th
what type of leaders are you guys using?
hi, i was wondering what kind of rods you re usig, and what type of line?
What brand of leaders are you using? Great vid!
I hope you don't mind me asking, but what kind of camera is that you have on the brim of your hat? I'd like to get something so I can upload some videos this summer and for ice fishing next season, thank!

What brand of fluoro and what lb test are your leaders?
what main line are you using
What reels and rods they use in this episode?
Thank you!

Great video! Is the best approach to retrieve the jerkbaits steady and pause every now and then?

They can get large, but not as large as Zanders!

What kind of rods were you using? And reels?
What test pond r u using
I like to pull the front treble off and just use the rear hook. Lots easier to release the fish.

Use a steel leader

+Light games yup that's perfect
i remember my first northern 12 inch on a buzz bait
Great fishing and stunning fish but really no need for the mouth spreader when unhooking
now that is what i call a pike i use to catch fish like that on a lake i fish on but the state lowered the water to work on the dam fishing was never the same
are you using an okuma trio?
Neither of them are but the Trio is a nice reel that will easily handle Pike
How did you fish the X rap
what are the gills?
The gills, they are next to the mouth.
