Afro Poli sings and acts the part of Dandini in Fernando Cerchio's 1948/1949 Italian film treatment of La Cenerentola. This is, I believe, the earliest recording of this aria.

This channel is primarily about vocal emission-aural examples of basically correct singing, correct impostazione-chiaroscuro, vowel clarity, firm and centered pitch, correct vibrato action, absence of throatiness or thickness, sounds free from constriction and from the acoustic noise that accompanies it-with occasional video examples that demonstrate what the body, face, mouth, jaw, and tongue look like when used with correct impostazione-the vocal emission of the one and only Italian school.
Caveat: I'm biased in favor of baritones and baritone literature, but if you want to learn about and listen to all the greatest singers in the old-school tradition, explore this spreadsheet (voice parts are separated by tabs): bit.ly/2W4qmE3 - เพลง
I have a cherished CD of a "Don Pasquale" from the late 1930s with Poli as Dottore Malatesta, Tito Schipa as the lovesick Ernesto and Adelaide Saraceni as Norina . . . what a romp!
Afro Poli is very underrated in my opinion. He is very very very good
Many singers were underrated due to several reasons. Mostly political. As always relations between East and West played the firs strings here. I think it is a part of our uneasy life and we cannot change it.
Agreed!
Che meraviglia, Grandissimo Afro Poli!
Magnifico Afro Poli un grandissimo artista. Complimenti di vero cuore.
Simply perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GRAN DIO. He is one of my most favourite baritones. Unfortunately underrated one. He acted Canio in Masini's recording of Vesti la giubba.
Also he sang and acted Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor movie and acted Scarpia in 1956 color film (the part was sang by Guelfi).
JUST FABULOUS
Grandissimo Afro!!
I love this aria. I love this opera. I love Rossini. Thank you very much to have uploaded this diamond. Could you also upload the duet Un soave non so che between Ramiro e Cenerentola and also Zitto zitto, piano piano between Dandini and Ramiro. Grazie mille!
Grande baritono e grande attore, il suo Carpentiere nel Piccolo Marat è ancora da antologia
Ah now there is a real Dandini!
A curious choice for a film, but a superb choice for the subject! My one quibble with the film is its choice for Cenerentola's step-sisters: They're TOO attractive! My mental image of them is closer to the witches in Macbeth! BUT - fun, nevertheless!! Oh, and by the way . . . "Trrill's" bias in favor of baritones is fine with me! LOVE those juicy comic and villainous roles and their high tragic or low comedic rumblings!
This is an essential video - thank you a million
Afro Poli was born in unfortunate times. Ten years later he would be a good competitor to Gobbi, Bastianini, Tadei, Bechi or partner of Mario del Monaco and Franco Corelli or Carlo Bergonzi.
Afro Poli did in fact preform with most if not all the names above!!
@@silverbats, no. Impossible, baritone against other baritones? He may have sung alternately with other famous baritones but he never appeared together with them in the same spectacle. Pagliacci perhaps...
@@johnfalstaff2270 U are correct I stand corrected. They were in the same circle as you said!
@@silverbats, do not get excited. It is 12:25 EST right now and you should go to bed.
I'd love to get this movie do you know where it could be bought?
Who's his Don Ramiro? I'd like to see his Si Ritrovarla if they existed 😃
The tenor is Gino Del Signore. I haven't studied the entire film, so I'm not sure about his performance. As soon as I have a chance, I'll give it a listen, and if it's decent I'll upload.
I have the complete film. The first part of Don Ramiro’s aria is cut.
The Don Ramiro Gino Del Signore is really great. th-cam.com/video/Or2YSbX2OH4/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
