The atmosphere those early 90s point and click games created were unreal when experiencing them at the time. They completely captured you in their worlds.
Soon after I got my Amiga 1200, I saved up for a 20-meg hard drive. 20 MEG. When I installed LeChuck's Revenge, I had to uninstall every other game I had on there to get it to fit.
I remember wanting hard drive back then, but at the time I couldn't afford it. So, I played LeChuck's Revenge on my 1MB Amiga 500. I was swapping disks more than I was playing the game.
@@caseofquartz7366 Oh hey man! Sheesh, no wonder so many people were switching to PCs around this time. Yeah, the drives were expensive. And actually by the time I got my hands on that 20 meg drive, my PC-owning friends had drives up in the hundreds of megs, I think. But the Amiga drives were always so overpriced. Even though it was nice to finally have an IDE controller on the 1200, it still took the more expensive 2.5" drives.
@@pacbilly They were overpriced, even additional floppy wasn't as common. I remember that time, VGA/Soundblaster PCs started to get superior ports of games and I was jealous since I was too poor to get one. Yes definitely knew what number 1 was before clicking on the video 👊🏻😁. I still hear one or two of the awesome monkey island soundtrack pieces almost daily as I have the original monkey Island soundtrack sprinkled through every one of my playlists on Spotify 👌🏻
Operation Stealth was a masterclass of how point and click adventures should be made. Delphine was such an incredible game studio. I'd vote Flashback as the most iconic of them all, though. So many people playing on other platforms were so jealous when listened how the beretta sounded on the amiga. I would know, I was one of them :)
I remember leaving the taps running in Cruise for a Corpse and being annoyed when I re-entered the room they had been turned off. That, Another World and Op Stealth are my favourites here.
I never really took much notice of who published what bitd, I was much more interested in the devs so I was pleasantly suprised to see so many great Amiga games were published by US Gold which generally has a bad rep. Delphine and Lucasarts sure did knock out some Amiga classics which no doubt made US Gold a lot of wonga! Nice vid m8
Grew up playing all of these. So magical being able to play truly innovative games as they were released. The last ‘modern’ game I got that same feeling from was when WoW first came out.
Color me surprised, as I had no idea US Gold had any good games , or at least games I didn't know they had published in other regions. A few of these games I knew from NA releases, while a few others I didn't know about at all but they look rather good. Thanks for the gaming education, as it's always a good thing to learn about some hidden gems.
Wow. Cruise for a corpse looks unbelievably and astoundingly great! Wish i had the ability to delve deeper into these amazing games back then. Guess its impossible.. But i can imagine somewhat the experience. In time. The cruise for a corpse! Somewhere in time ❤
Great video and some great games I must get for my A500 mini. Loved the talkie version of Fate of Atlantis on PC. Yeah it would have made a far better movie than the tripe they put out.
In the mid 1990's I had that golf game on a PC that was more powerful than an Amiga. It was identical to the Amiga version apart from having slightly higher resolution graphics. An excellent game. I was hooked on it.
I know it's probably controversial opinion but I really didn't like the Monkey Island games. In fact, I couldn't get into any of the point and click style of adventure gaming. I think the soundtracks for all the Amiga games I had or saw always hit the mark but (imho) never matched by gameplay. Can anyone remember that motebike racing game's name? The bikes were almost Tron-like but it was racing on a circuit and the mouse control mean you either didn't lean in enough or you ran out of desk space trying to steer 😀
I adored the two Monkey Island games on the A500+. The remasters on playstation 3 are amazing too, as they have the voice actors from the Curse of... doing the scripts. You can skip to the original graphics and display using the controller on the fly too.
I always found it strange that US Gold published so many games from so many different companies. Here in the U.S. most companies published their own games. EA games were published by EA. Epyx games were published by Epyx. Lucasarts games were published by Lucasarts, and so on. Yes, sometimes a company bought the rights to a UK or European game, but then they usually published it under a budget label. And even then it was an Accolade budget label, or an Epyx budget label. I can't really think of a company that existed just to publish other companies' games.
I live in the USA and certainly remember US gold games. over here we thought the company were mocking us because of how bad some of the games are. I know it isn't the case but fun tidbit from across the pond. we just called delphine games, delphine games lol.
@@oldstylegaming I get it, it's almost like over here we forgot about the US Gold part and got happy it was a game from delphine haha. both titles are timeless classics that still hold up.

Unpopular opinion: Line of Fire was an excellent conversion and should be on this list, specially considering the original arcade it was based on was a spectacular display of super scaling tech. It's a way better conversion than Operation Wolf on the Amiga for sure, and although the decision to use a digitalized sample of the original arcade gun unit's recoil mechanism as the sound of your weapon firing might come up as odd to many, I think it actually was a clever and creative decision in an attempt to truly capture the feeling of playing the original thing in spite of the inherent limitations. And the soundtrack is awesome.
@@oldstylegaming No, it wasn't. Opinions aren't objective facts, sorry. It was a very good conversion, respected the original's gameplay, had quite good graphics which made good use of the base A500 capabilities at a very decent speed and had excellent music.
