@BikesandBeards Look in the Lehigh Valley area. You'll find some serious gems! I've been looking in this area for 35 years for both interesting bikes and scooters. Hunterdon County NJ is also a great spot where rich people buy toys and never use them.
Yeah, Craig definitely adds a lot to the channel and gives it a good buddy comedy vibe. Hopefully Shawn doesn't fire him and then immediately have an awkward interview where he explains how successful the channel has been but that he'd rather do the stuff Craig does so he's out on his own. Like another channel did recently.
It sounds cliché but the older some thing is, the fewer tools required to fix it, as there were simply fewer tools available LOL just a pair of pliers will fix something mechanical 100 years old, but I need a tool kit to put together an office chair made yesterday 🤦🏼♂️
Older things are easier to work on ..... Almost no electronic computerized bullshit ..... All mechanical .... This part moves that part that part moves this part ...
Even my carb’d 2002 Twin Cam’s. With the tools I carry on the bikes alone, I could break down %90 of the bike ,so if it couldn’t be fixed on the side of the road, it needs a towing anyway. 7/16, 1/2, 9/16 , 5/8 🔧, 3/16, 1/4, 5/32, 3/8 hex and a couple of T’s, 25,27,41, %75 can be dismantled with these alone. Almost forgot, tie wraps and duct tape 😊
This bike (42WLA70273) is actually one of the last war 45's, produced in late June ~ early July 1945. This type VII was intended for Russia, but it probably never made it there; after VJ-day all deliveries stopped, and even shipments on their way were called back and bikes were finished as civvy WL's and sold. This most probably is one of these refinished WLA's

I was told by my neighbor when I was a child in the 70s . No worries if your points and condenser is bad. Go to a local hardware store pickup a kit for a Briggs & Stratton mower motor and your golden. These people worked on plenty of engines. And of course this was okay until manufacturers started putting in ecms. Craig was sounding giddy as a school girl. Kind of like Burt Reynolds used to laugh. That's a beautiful WLA. Would love to see HD do an icon version of it. From what I understand it was a 18.5 hp engine capable of stop speed of 70 mph.

You make me dream of my youth! I was eighteen, home on leave, bought a 37 WL from a good friend. It'd been a side car with a reverse and I ended up riding it to Cherry point where I was stationed. It was stone cold reliable, easy to kick start and good on gas. The previous owner had done a great flame on black point job and molded the whole frame and tanks in. It'd do about seventy five or eighty flat out, and about fifty miles to the gallon at sixty. I was young and foolish and sold it while overseas. Wish I had it now. Thanks Craig!
So now that you have two. After they're both restored I'm expecting some kind of road trip out of them. It would be awesome to see you go from Wheels Through Time back up to Lancaster.
Beautiful bike Sean glad you made it home safe. You and Craig and the crew. Good luck with the future endeavors on this one. I love that you put the Bible verse in each episode! I hope I get better so I can help restore my stepfathers 1975 Honda cb125s. Those bikes are so much fun to ride if you know what I mean! I literally live under 1 mile from we’re you guys stop when Justin’s Ktm said I don’t wanna go anymore lol at 17:20 . Man I wish I would’ve seen you guys pass by with that iconic 80 yr old peace of art
I'm guessing the not-the-throttle twist grip is for manual spark advance. At idle the spark advance is 4 degrees or so BTDC. As the RPMs increase, the spark advance has to be increased to around 14 degrees BTDC (old, low RPM engines). So, as you roll on the throttle, you also have to roll on the spark advance in a synchronized fashion. Cars had the same deal, but the control was a lever on the steering column. Eventually, this was handled automatically. At first, this was done with a pair of weights with springs that flew out as the RPMs increased causing the plate the points were mounted on to rotate and thus increase the spark advance. Now it is done electronically.
You can tell everyone on this team is honest, genuine people just by how awkward that little bit of “acting” was with Robbie LOL Theater is for sociopaths 😉
😆Don't you just love it when growing men laugh like little girls fixing and making something go with what you have on hand just golden makes me smile to. good channel keep the good work up.
I don't even own a motorcycle but I love watching this channel..top stuff 👌🏼...as a British viewer it would be interesting to see you guys source some old British bikes like BSA, Norton,Vincent etc.i figure you'll have loads of fun with them.
I enjoyed watching you do this, those Forty-fives are much loved over here and were what our club (HD Riders Club GB) was founded on (1949). That one sounded healthy even at that initial brief start, you must have been very lucky with the wiring - or someone had replaced it all recently, did you enjoy the front brake! You were in the ballpark with the power, standard civilian would be around 25hp but as you quickly discovered that is not the turn on with these, they are just so charming. A lot of them over here in the fifties would have had sidecars as back then 750 was a big engine for us. I shall mention your video to our members, good luck....and I say leave it blue!
I use to have a 1947 45 in 1969. It had a suicide cluch and springer forks. Lot of fun to ride. (Don,t let the cluch springs pop out, hard to get back in). This video hit close to my heart of great memories. Thanks for sharing it...
Back in 1971 when i was just 14 years old we rented a small farm in Kansas. Dad wanted to raise a few pigs and decided to clean out the old barn on the property. While shoveling through the old straw on the barn floor he hit somethng metalic. After digging it out of 18 inches of old rotten hay he saw it was a part of an old motorcycle. More digging found more and more parts, that he stacked in a corner. Later he told a friend about it. The friend asked if he could have the parts, and Dad said sure they're just in the way. 6 months later Dad gets a call from the friend to come to his house. There we saw for the first time the assembled motorcycle. The one you bought looks identical to the one I saw that day in 1971, although a little shinier.
I've never cleaned the fuel injectors on my old bikes. And they would probably run better if I did. thanks. Guys, I always learn something new from your videos.
8:56 I have that happening too when I stand up after kneeling down like that. I get light-headed and go blind for a good 5-10 seconds and see a white, TV-static like effect during that time.
what additive to the gas did you use to replace the lead? I had a 1945 WL, I used marvel Mystery oil in the gas. yes a WL, a civilian model from 1945. one of only about 1300 civilian model made in 1945.

I love that you put the Bible verse in each episode! I hope I get better so I can help restore my stepfathers 1975 Honda cb125s. Those bikes are so much fun to ride if you know what I mean! God bless and thank you both very much!
heal quickly my friend
@@BikesandBeards Thanks brother! God bless!
I really love the way it looks, to me that blue and white are perfect and I would ride it around the world looking just like that.
45 is Harleys version of a tractor motor.Great for sidecar duty!
i really love this channel. Shawn is awesome! Craig is pretty great too! BTW the shot @ 18:26-18:31 was awesome! That was a beautiful shot!
Wow, you guys are really thoughtful, Roadkill never put a tarp down.
to be honest it was more for us to not get wet. sorry to burst your bubble
I never knew that. How mechanically amazing.
Why don’t you have a proper tool chest and bench in that huge trailer?
Wow thanks for posting guys Craig one of the best things on TH-cam
You can tell everyone on this team is honest, genuine people just by how awkward that little bit of “acting” was with Robbie LOL Theater is for sociopaths 😉
Just like Orange County Chopper 🙄
Man …. I love that old 45 flathead… I’d love to have one… I guess I can just keep watching you guys until I can get one… awesome video.. thanks guys…
When does Bike and Beards get the pleasure of losing to Wheels Through Time in the race?
Bikes and Beards doesnt lose unless we throw the race on purpose
Beautiful bike! I can't believe you got this running. And, I really can't believe you rode it home!
You don't deserve that bike It's beautiful the way it is
Don’t tell me what I don’t deserve

Man you know what we like. You keep on posting those old Harleys, we'll keep on watching
Craig is a heck of a mechanic. Glad he's a part of the team!!
What a sweet sounding bike, great work guys
Oh, I love that motorcycle. Cant wait to see it finished
Robby Layton is a great guy from what I see. He is quick to jump in and help.
I don't even own a motorcycle but I love watching this channel..top stuff 👌🏼...as a British viewer it would be interesting to see you guys source some old British bikes like BSA, Norton,Vincent etc.i figure you'll have loads of fun with them.
Wow another nice WLA! How lucky was that, that this old bike basically jumped back to life with a little of Craigs magic.
I know, right?
DUDE I wish I had a Matt as my teacher dude has crazy amount of knowledge from what i`ve seen on all his time popping in ur vids.
I use to have a 1947 45 in 1969. It had a suicide cluch and springer forks. Lot of fun to ride. (Don,t let the cluch springs pop out, hard to get back in). This video hit close to my heart of great memories. Thanks for sharing it...
I want that WLA so bad. Gorgeous. God Bless You guys Bikes and Beards.
Great that people share these cool experiences most of us just dream of. Cheers guys!
The one you bought looks identical to the one I saw that day in 1971, although a little shinier.
aaaaahhhhhhhh man what a crazy story. how cool would that have been
Yooo gotta love starting up old bikes, I just rebuilt a 69 triumph and the joy of hearing it run for the first time is unmatched
Many Thanks for the video of cruising through beautiful Pennsylvania on such a stone cold classic.
Love your videos! I think the bike is gorgeous just like it is, but build it to suit you. I always enjoy watching you guys!
You are a brave soul for taking to the highway on what I assume are ancient tires.
I grew up around panheads, knuckleheads, choppers, bobbers, all sorts of old Harleys from the 1940s and 50s. They are something else
*_Love it when the bike fires. Just great. Thanks for the Video._*
@@plustelegramme4662 Yes, this is the second time I have had one. Whooo hooo
OMG she's MAGNIFICENT . BEST BIKE YOU HAVE EVER GOTTEN
what additive to the gas did you use to replace the lead? I had a 1945 WL, I used marvel Mystery oil in the gas. yes a WL, a civilian model from 1945. one of only about 1300 civilian model made in 1945.
For a bike that is 80yrs old, that bike looks and sounds amazing.
