@cainmac …?? What is wrong with the view point that if a parent be it the father or mother kills their children’s parent that that murderers family should not benefit in any way when it comes to having custody over the future welfare of those children. If a man murders his wife and they have children together I completely agree that his mother and father who raised him should not be allowed to be the sole caregiver or responsible guardian for those children. Sure there is the argument that was previously stated that they (the parents to the murderer) have raised someone capable of murder and clearly messed something up along the way. However, I think that is more important to note that the relationship that the children would then have access to with the parent who murdered their mother. It is important to understand how detrimental it would be to be raised by people who still love and adore the person who murdered your mother. That the whole dynamics would be so profound and powerful and to the innocent child how would they ever recover and rectify their feelings . I think it is so very important that the children be removed and placed with the most suitable family member who has been screened and scrutinised to withstand the ongoing needs of the child/children. I do believe that is almost always better that the children stay with close family of the parent who was murdered. So that they can help that child grieve and to also grow up surrounded by stories and photos of their parent which would be unlikely to happen in a household where the relative who killed their parent was on the walls.
The fact he knew what was in that house, and he allowed her mother and her family to go and discover that, is truly one of the most shocking things I've ever heard. That poor family, not only losing their daughter/sister in that manner, but the last image they have of her, is her in that way. Lost for words.
What's interesting is I've heard the EXACT same "steps" he took in other true crime stories, where the husband killed the wife... then kept calling to "check in", then sending someone else to "discover" the body... "ransacking" the place but not really taking anything. Not original at all, and thank goodness...helps catch them quicker.
Rose said as much in an interview that she felt he deliberately allowed her to go to the house knowing what she would find there. He wanted her to see Rachel like that..
There are many heart wrenching facts of this case but something about him courting her when she didn’t even like him only to later in life claim he is repulsed by her & to violently take her life. THEN make sure her mother found her body? He is a demon. He never ever deserved a minute of Rachel’s time.
Yes! Have you ever seen the movie Match Point? It reminded me of that… although Joe actually killed the wife instead of the mistress but the pursuit of someone just to kill them later is gut wrenching 😢 He’s a monster

All I can think is what a piece of work this man and his family are! Sharing emails with his sister calling Rachel derogatory names, his mother filing a false abuse claim…they must have known the crime was sketchy but kept mum. What evil people.
A lot of ppl in small “low-crime” towns prefer to sort things out amongst themselves. Hence “low-crime”. Failure to report crimes is almost always the reason behind an apparent low-crime rate.
OK the husbands first question “Rachel what have you done to yourself” = GUILTY. The second giveaway “I touched her body and moved a box into the children’s room. I hope I didn’t destroy any evidence” = GUILTY. I need not HEAR anymore, who did it, he did it. Her first instinct to keep turning him down for a date was right on the mark. Unfortunately she gave in
A part of me thinks that he felt some type of way that he was rejected by her initially, and he wanted to “pay her back” by cheating on her. He made it his mission to punish her for it. What a weirdo. I knew he was guilty when he kept calling her.
I have the same thoughts. The moment I heard him say these things I immediately raised my brows. Totally guilty. The more he opened his mouth to say something is just him putting himself closer to jail LOL
The number one tell of all abusers, “What have YOU done to YOURself?” Yeah because SHE bashed her own head in all the way to her skull. What an evil cunt.
Exactly! Who would say those things at the crime scene!! The majority of people in such a situation, would be numb and unable to process anything NOT tell the police they had touched the body, moved a box, and by doing so, might have interfered with any evidence. Pleeeese!
The full length Late Late Show interview is well worth watching, as you can see it in Rose's body language that she knows exactly who did it & that he's sitting right next to her. The amount of strength it must have taken to endure that without knocking him out is amazing.
The fact that he sent her precious, unsuspecting mother over to that horrific murder scene all the while knowing full well what she would find is nothing more than putrid evil. That dear woman will have to see that unthinkable image in her mind for the rest of her life. 💔
If someone doesn't take "No" for an answer when asking you out, that's a red flag that they don't think you have any agency or right to makes choices for YOUR life. A relationship is a major life change that YOU should have say in, and you have the right to decline someone's attentions if they're unwanted. You should never, _ever_ date a person who doesn't respect that. Instead, you should avoid them by all means.
This 100% The fact that he was rejected and then was even more determined, found out where she played and courted her till she finally gave him a chance. I’m sure not everyone that does this is a psychopath but there’s a lack of respect and boundaries that isn’t a good sign to begin with. To a young girl it sounds like a movie, to be wooed and given that much attention, but in real life it’s paving the path of an unhealthy relationship to come.
Such a compassionate and thorough job you've done in presenting this horrific case. I've gotta say, Rachel's mom is one tough cookie. She carried herself with quiet strength, dignity, and a sense of grace not often seen anymore. Again, great episode; thank you!
The saying "you marry the whole family" is true in a way. That's why you have to be very careful of who you even so much as date. Seems like his family tree grew on a landfill. He's clearly a sadistic psychopath, reveling in what he did by gloating to multiple people, literally walking them through his crime scene with commentary, even bragging on television. He's a _thing_ that shouldn't be.
Can I just say I love your voice. The way you tell us these cases is really lovely. You are not dramatic and annoying as others can be and you tell their stories with much dignity. Thank you ❤
I worked with Nikki Pelley many years ago. She was having an affair with our regional manager. It was common knowledge that they were together. He had a wife and a few children. She must like the married men. I remember this case so well, what an absolute animal of a man, disgusting.
Alice & Mia, can't thank you both enough for your empathy & compassion you show the victims & their families yet your attention to detail sets your channel apart from any other. No gimmicks, bells or whistles just the facts in your calm beautiful voices, my favourite channel bar none. RIP sweet beautiful Rachel Callely 💚
What a psychopathic bastard. It's the only term I can use for someone who not only murdered the mother of his kids but also to plan for her body to be found by her own mother - extremely vile. RIP Rachel Callely.
What a horrific story. I wonder why his sister hated Rachel so much. Was he poisoning his family against her? I feel so bad for the children. Not only had he killed her but I would bet that his family is poisoning them against their mother
@@sharongrigg5336 it said that the sister was also making derogatory comments too. Plus his mother filed a false child abuse charge. I don't imagine they loved her
Joe made sure Rachael’s mother discovered her, he blamed Rachael as soon as he saw her body, Joe went in to confuse DNA results. Joe was showing Rachael’s parents his work when he invited them over. Horrible person!
He pursued her so heavily. After she said no he just started putting himself around her so she couldn't help but being familiar with him. He did all that just to kill her.
The part about not bringing someone you don't know into the bedroom because you're cornered is so bizarre and super suspicious! Who thinks like that?! People typically don't bring strangers into their bedrooms because it's a very personal space.
He was trying to imply that she had been murdered by someone she'd invited into her bedroom. It's a pity she didn't trust her first instinct on meeting Joe - she wasn't eager to date him at first. And she was out of his league in the looks department, he looked rather odd beside the beautiful Rachel.
Why the heck that mistress could be with him knowing what he did , didn’t she think he would do the same thing to her when he got tired of her , both are deplorable
Commie Despotism of Middle Kingdom forces soulles scumbags who commit heinous crimes to seek redemption by having their organs harvested while they are incarcerated in the most horrible, most inhumané conditions imaginable. (It's a different issue, they consider *_"having a mind of one's own"_* as the most heinous crime one can commit; worse than chosing to become a sadist psychopath mass murderer!)
As soon as you point out their heights, I already knew the husband did it. Rachel stood at 5'11 the only way she could've been beaten by that is by surprise attack of someone she knew and is also much taller than her, and this monster stood at 6'5. It still baffles me how you could marry someone, hate them so much to the point that you need to k*ll them in this manner. What a sick bastard
My husband, a covert narcissist, had an affair as well. I feel lucky to still be alive....so far. My soon to be ex-husband is living with his affair partner. I can tell he wants me dead but, because he is law enforcement, he knows it's hard to pull that off.
If your "soon to be ex-husband" is living with his affair partner, why and how can you tell that he wants you dead ? Are you harassing him or her ? Are you "worth" more unalive ? I would think that a law enforcement officer wouldn't be a hindrance but be more of a reason to do something because they would have a greater chance of getting away with murder. 🤔😌
@@tantalize811 he harasses me via text on occasion when his supply is otherwise occupied I assume. I am worth more dead because he does not want to part with a portion of his pension….that is also why the divorce is going over the 3 year mark.

I was on the edge of tears thru most of this but to hear how her family then lost her sister too… that was the breaking point. My god their mum is one strong willed woman. She’s been dragged thru hell and back and she refused to stop fighting for justice. I hope Rachel’s boys are with her family and well loved. ❤
I will never understand how can a parent do this to his children leaving them without a mother and the trauma they have to live with for the rest of their lives. You hate her, that’s fine. Just leave…why kill? RIP Rachel🙏
If someone is a narcissistic sociopath/ narcopath anything is possible. They don’t shy away from murdering the significant other, even it would devestate the kids. He also seemed to have enjoyed reenacting the murder and being interviewed because he felt so secure he would get away with it. Narcissists crave for any attention and think of themselves as very smart and that they can deceit anyone. They live for their own needs, lying, showing no empathy. This applies to men and women equally.
What a vile & horrible man. Slaughtering Rachel was not enough. My goodness, he even wanted to give "tours" of where he brutally killed her & made sure her mother found her body. Just monstrous. I feel so terrible for Rachel's family.
40+ minutes!! What a treat. I knew he did it when you were describing all those calls he made the morning she was killed. Killers like to "cover" their tracks well, usually too well. Great video!
In the recommended videos attached to this one- there are some thumbnails featuring blurred out crime scenes with a big red circle and arrow pointing to the victim’s body, as well as thumbnails that focus on telling the story of the killer. This to say how much I appreciate this channels approach to covering these tragic cases. Always respectful, victim focused, and focused on how much the loss impacted the friends, family, and community. Appreciate you, Truly Criminal, for being one of the few channels that covers these cases responsibly. ❤
Deepest sympathies for the victim and her loved ones. Nobody should have to experience the kind of fear and pain, especially in their own home. What a betrayal, what a terrible tragedy. Hoping the family has been able to continue on living well and remembering the happy memories with this caring and nurturing lady. Sometimes someone pursues another for a relationship to fulfill their own narcissistic tendencies. Almost like the ones who bet with their friends they can get someone. Rachel was out of his league. What a monster to act like she was repulsive.
Why do some men resort to killing/murdering her spouse? Why divorcing is so hard? Why some men can't just be happy with one women? Having a family is a blessing and some men just throw it away. Marriage means 'till death do us apart'...not killing or murdering her.
It's not always about how the other one looks. It's usually just because they can, because they are weak and don't have the strength to end a relationship if they are unhappy. I do think though, that any person who has an affair with someone knowing they are married or in a relationship is pretty ugly inside and out.
Thats the same thing i think about david. Broken homes are a key part of the downfall of modern society. It just continues to feed on itself. The gender war is ratcheting up. Divorce is at its highest rate. Nuclear families seem doomed. The law covers single moms even though statistics show its failing. Contributing to unstable kids and crime . As you stated GET MARRIED STAY MARRIED Or dont get married. It seems like unprotected sex is very important to these people. Basically........HELP!
Thank you all for your thorough and sensitive coverage of this devastating case. We don’t really hear enough about Ireland in the UK (in my opinion). Love you guys, love having you on Patreon ❤
Best True Crime presentation every Saturday! I'm proud of how well y'all are doing. I ❤ the fact y'all don't just do well known cases. You make sure to give others a voice & shine the light on them as well. We all ❤ this channel for that!!
if someone you keep rejecting when they ask you out just "shows up" at your gatherings/sporting events, etc, you are being stalked. He was a red flag long before they married. Ugh.
I have watched most criminal shows but yours by far is the best. You tell a story like no other and even though I may have heard of the cases in the past, you seem to always shed some new light on it that I wasn't aware of. In Canada, I wait every Saturday for 2 pm for your shows to appear. Thanks so much.
I remember this case happening. The Late Late interview was chilling to watch and I remember my Dad saying, “he did it, without a doubt”. Rachel’s family never gave up. That horrible man still challenges the legality of his conviction (not the guilt part). Himself and Graham O’ Dwyer (another horrible Irish case) need to rot in jail
What always boggles my mind is that after trying so hard to hide the fact that they murdered someone after it’s over they act SO off and odd and make it so obvious they were involved!!!
Maybe I'M slow but i often wondered why criminals want to " get away" with thier heinous acts. No honor at all. If murder is a way if solving problems you would think these people realize they are sick and get help.
This account of the Rachel O'Reilly murder case is truly gut-wrenching and sheds light on the complexities of human emotions, deception, and the pursuit of justice. The first part sets the scene with a glimpse into the seemingly ordinary life of Rachel and Joe O'Reilly, which takes a dark turn with Rachel's tragic murder. The second part delves deep into the intense trial that followed, revealing a web of lies, betrayal, and manipulation that unraveled before the eyes of the court. The way the evidence was meticulously presented during the trial, from emails and text messages to phone triangulation, showcased the increasing role of technology in modern legal proceedings. It's incredible to see how digital footprints were used to piece together a motive and paint a vivid picture of what transpired. The emotional turmoil faced by Rachel's family, especially her mother Rose, is heartrending. Their unwavering determination to seek justice and remember Rachel's life is both inspiring and moving. The culmination of the trial, with Joe O'Reilly's guilty verdict and subsequent life sentence, offers a sense of closure, yet the aftermath continues to haunt. This case serves as a reminder of the fragility of human life, the power of evidence, and the lengths that loved ones will go to in order to ensure justice prevails. Let us never forget Rachel's story and the strength of those who stood up for her. 💔🕯️🙏
I feel so bad for Rachel’s father in that moment. “You might not want to go in. It’s a horrific scene.” The feeling of all the options of what could’ve happened to her. Heartbreaking. Rest in peace.
His mother raised them. I can imagine what was said because they didn't see Rose and Jim after he went to prison (despite them trying)... they'd be in their 20s now. I wonder how they feel about their dad and his family?
All i can think is poor Rose, not only has she lost her daughter violently, she knew he did it, as he retraumatized her reliving the murder, unable to even talk to her husband.. just watching her face on the television show as she listened to him speak.. she must have been so numb.. may her daughter rest peacefully&her family fond SOME SORT of healing😢
Cant believe it...the rat went out of his way to be with Rachel! stalking her at softball after her refusing him so many times but then just kills her when he's had enough of Rachel, what a strange evil bloke.
I knew he did it the moment I saw him on The Late Late show. He said she was nobody special, and myself and my flatmate looked at each other. She wasn't special????
This is in my top 5 most favorite true crime channels. I love the music sounds in the beginning of each case and you have a perfect voice explaining the videos. Thank you for doing such a great job!! Shawn from Wenatchee Washington State USA 🇺🇸
Its so fucked up that she rejected him for years when he'd ask her out. She finally relented but HE makes it sound like she was overbearing and "repulsive"??? While also cheating on her.... Christ.
He only wanted her because she didn't want him. To a narcissist, "no" is not an answer. They have to win, but once they do, the "game" is not much fun anymore.
This was such a gripping case! The way everything unfolded was shocking. Great storytelling and attention to detail-really makes you think about how far deception can go
I cannot believe this channel does not have more subscribers. It's excellent. I've been a subscriber since the beginning. Never disappointed. Well done ladies of Truly Criminal.
Absolutely horrific unimaginable pain for her parents and remaining siblings having lost two precious daughters/sisters 😢. I got chills when the vile “it” said close the lid coldly on Rachel’s coffin. I have experienced my sister in law treat my brother and my family the same way when he died suddenly, not one tear, just get rid of him, get his life insurance - it nearly killed me as a sister with grief, my mum and I have only just hung in there. My prayers for Rose and her family to triumph over such evil 🙏🕯️ God be with you always

To find your own child dead, brutally murdered, must be the worst kind of torture for a mother. 😔 Bless her heart!
Then he took them on a tour of how he thought she was killed showing off the blood stains!🤮☠️such a disgusting Man…so sick and disturbed for her Mother,💔
He is heartless!
My heart breaks for her 💔😔
I agree. As a mother, I can't think of anything worse.
@@tobymahaney7219So arrogant as he 'rolls his shoulders', swaggering into the Court of Justice, chin jutting in self-assurance. What a pompous, heartless individual. It makes me wonder what on earth was going on ith him & his mother...🤷
The fact that he deliberately engineered it so that her mother would find her body. Evil.
Did he?
@@eadweard. Well he phoned her mother and asked her to go and check on his wife, so yes!
@@lornaginetteharrison7168 Oh yes thank you.
Pure evil

All I can think is what a piece of work this man and his family are! Sharing emails with his sister calling Rachel derogatory names, his mother filing a false abuse claim…they must have known the crime was sketchy but kept mum. What evil people.
Honestly trash raises trash.
And two little innocent boys in their snare!
@@Joanla1954that's totally wrong to still send them there smh
Those two boys were kept from Rose and Jim after he went to prison by his mother. They're in their 20s now. I wonder what they think of their "dad"?
A lot of ppl in small “low-crime” towns prefer to sort things out amongst themselves. Hence “low-crime”. Failure to report crimes is almost always the reason behind an apparent low-crime rate.
OK the husbands first question “Rachel what have you done to yourself” = GUILTY. The second giveaway “I touched her body and moved a box into the children’s room. I hope I didn’t destroy any evidence” = GUILTY. I need not HEAR anymore, who did it, he did it. Her first instinct to keep turning him down for a date was right on the mark. Unfortunately she gave in
I can't believe that's his first response. Who would say that to his murdered wife. Smh...
When the host asked him who did he think did it, Rose glanced slowly to Joe.
I think everyone in Ireland knew he did it, after that interview.
Body language is pseudo-science unfortunately.
even just the short clip they showed here was very telling in her body language and the way she looked at him
THE WAY YOU NARRATE THE STORIES IS AWESOME.
YOU HAVE SUCH A SOOTHING VOICE.

So sad Rachel's parents lost both daughters so terribly young. How much tragedy can one family take?❤
The fact that he sent her precious, unsuspecting mother over to that horrific murder scene all the while knowing full well what she would find is nothing more than putrid evil.
This 100%
The fact that he was rejected and then was even more determined, found out where she played and courted her till she finally gave him a chance. I’m sure not everyone that does this is a psychopath but there’s a lack of respect and boundaries that isn’t a good sign to begin with. To a young girl it sounds like a movie, to be wooed and given that much attention, but in real life it’s paving the path of an unhealthy relationship to come.
Well said.
His reenactment to her parents was particularly cruel and disgusting.
It sounds as if he thoroughly enjoyed going through the details. The same to the tv presenter. He just couldn't help himself.
@@SerenDipity64711 And, let's now forget all of the "Murder Tours" that he gave to their friends, either

Someone who always blames others for their own actions. I knew he did it as soon as he said that.

She didn't stand a chance with that toxic waste of a family of inlaws!

It's so sad that they lost their other daughter too.

Joe made sure Rachael’s mother discovered her, he blamed Rachael as soon as he saw her body, Joe went in to confuse DNA results. Joe was showing Rachael’s parents his work when he invited them over. Horrible person!
I love this woman's voice.great storytelling
The average time spent in jail for someone sentenced to life in Ireland is 17years. He should be in jail for the rest of his life
Hopefully he will be & never be granted parole.
Here in Ireland the length of a murders stay in prison is proportional to the media coverage. He should be there a while so and that's good.
Arguably the best true crime channel on TH-cam.
My husband, a covert narcissist, had an affair as well. I feel lucky to still be alive....so far. My soon to be ex-husband is living with his affair partner. I can tell he wants me dead but, because he is law enforcement, he knows it's hard to pull that off.
Be careful and follow your gut; take it seriously and don't brush it off idly.

Men don't think like he's a parent, men will always put their manly desires first without thinking twice
They're PSYCHOPATHS

So he stalked her to get her to date him. Red Flag number 1
Came to say the same thing. If someone pursues you aggressively, don’t be flattered, see it as a red flag.
Exactly.

Because divorces cost money. & Not to mention Narcissists don’t want to go through that humiliation. That’s my opinion though.
Why is it always the spouse looks more attractive and they fined the ugly ones to cheat with?
It's not always about how the other one looks. It's usually just because they can, because they are weak and don't have the strength to end a relationship if they are unhappy.
I do think though, that any person who has an affair with someone knowing they are married or in a relationship is pretty ugly inside and out.
Thats the same thing i think about david.
Broken homes are a key part of the downfall of modern society.
It just continues to feed on itself.
The gender war is ratcheting up.
Divorce is at its highest rate.
Nuclear families seem doomed.

I have watched most criminal shows but yours by far is the best. You tell a story like no other and even though I may have heard of the cases in the past, you seem to always shed some new light on it that I wasn't aware of. In Canada, I wait every Saturday for 2 pm for your shows to appear. Thanks so much.
What a terrible betrayal! It’s horrifying to imagine that your husband, your family, could be so cruel.
Completely shocking and inhumane. The fact he was having an affair should've rang the alarm bells immediately as a motive
I remember my Ma saying the same thing. I was young so I didn't see it😢
He used the crime scene like a show, allowing people to come and see where his wife was murdered. What a sick twisted man.

What always boggles my mind is that after trying so hard to hide the fact that they murdered someone after it’s over they act SO off and odd and make it so obvious they were involved!!!
