It’s a fabric marker, pull the string to expose more of the chalk. Mondays were always so crazy when my girls were in school! I think it’s fantastic your boys are learning to play the guitar and Ukulele .
The piece of string is pulled which will move it higher and then you unwind the paper and the "lead" is exposed. Us "old folk" have been around when these were common.😂. I really like your pinafore dress.
Thank you, that makes sense now lol. I'm sure it'll be very useful. It's nice that the 'lead' is quite thick too. The pinafore dress is about finished thankfully and i'm pleased it worked out in the end xx
Hi Karen, just wanted to say what an amazing Mum you are to your boys.. they have many experiences and you work hard to give them that 🙏👏. It's no wonder they are so well rounded 🥰. I wasn't sure about the pencil myself 😉...not seen anything like that. I really hope you can do something with your pinafore... I love the colour and the smaller sequins 👌💙🤩😘
Aww thank you so much Sally, that's so kind of you to say. No, it's a weird pencil isn't it. I'm still unsure if it's water soluble or rub off!? I think I've managed to make the pinafore wearable - phew! I love how it's turned out, but next time I will definitely make changes lol xx
I’m sorry you’re not happy with your dungadress, it looks beautiful to me, the fabric is fabulous. I hope it works out for you as I think it will be fantastic in that fabric. It’s so frustrating when night time sewing goes wrong. I’m also delight d to learn about the pencil marker - I hadn’t a clue either! Happy sewing 🤞🤞💕
Thank you - I think I've managed to save the pinafore and it is about finished now, bar a few hand-sewing bits. It'll be wearable for tomorrows meal out, so i'm pleased :). Yes I agree, night time sewing and rushing do not go hand in hand. I'm looking forward to slowing down a bit in the new year and being able to take a bit more time and care with my makes xx
I was totally flummoxed as well about Becky’s gift 😂 all clear now though - as some people have commented the thread un ravels as you use it Hope you get your sequin dress finished and you are happy with it ❤❤❤
thanks chica, the dress is near enough finished now, just a few bits of hand sewing and it'll be wearable - sequins and last minute do not go together lol xx
Good for you shushing the rude people! There were so many times I should have and didn’t! Don’t feel bad, of all the Vlogmas I’ve watched, no one knew about the pencil! I did only because I’m 71!
Oh that pencil flummoxed a few people! I’m still not sure if it’s erasable or water soluble!? I know the rudeness drove me mad, I couldn’t help myself and it was in another language too, so no idea how important their loud conversation was xx
The new look dress is lovely it might be pulling round if it's not been cut on the grain line, I hope you manage to sort the sequin dress. I've not braved sequins yet 😊
thanks Sue, I love a polka dot. Yes that's true re the pulling and being cut off grain - although my boobs aren't helping the matter lol. Luckily I've managed to near enough finish the sequin dress - but sequins and small time-frame do not go together! xx
I hope the dress works for you. I work with sequin fabrics in my costume business, and it can be challenging. Underlining and lining on stretch fabric works best with a fabric that has similar stretch. This helps eliminate bagging and puckering. I really enjoy your vlogs. Thank you!
Thank you! The dress is just about finished i'm pleased to report! I definitely need to ensure I use the appropriate lining next time. I feel like the sequin fabric needs anchoring to the lining more as well - like it should be permanently glued or something. Thank you, so glad you are enjoying my vlogmas too :) xx
No first time i've seen anything like that as well. I'm still a little unsure as to whether it rubs off the fabric or if its a water soluble one - I'll have to do some testing before marking any fabric xx

Thank you Jan - I will share some of the playing of their ukulele performance this week - it was so lovely :) xx
You look adorable in that poke a dot dress! Very cute and it looks good on you!
thank you so much Cheryl :) xx

It is a marking pencil. The string helps to unravel the pencil when it wears down. I am enjoying your vlogmas.
Thank you Dawn! I've never seen a pencil like this before xx

The sequined pinafore (jumper here in the US) is such a great idea; dressy but not over the top!!!
Thank you. I agree, just the right amount of sparkle without being too much! Xx

I really liked the poka dotted dress you had on--it was very cute on you. Did you forget to open up Angela's gift today?
Thank you so much! Yes I did lol, getting my days mixed up! xx
It’s called a “china” marker.
Thank you - never come across one before :) xx
The neckline on today’s dress is quite flattering as is the little puff at tithe sleeve cap.
Good for you to shush the rude audience members!
Thank you, I really like the polka dot dress :) xx
I haven’t seen a pull string on a ‘fabric pencil’ but had a pull string on a fat pencil many years ago. Let us know if you like using it?
