I loved watching Anne of Green Gables on our local public broadcast station years ago, I wish they would bring it back. Thank you for all your instruction on how to make these pieces. I learn so much from you. I’ve been to Niagara Falls twice, once as a child with my family and the second time on my honeymoon. The power of the falls is amazing.
Hi Kathryn. I loved doing this square and can see the possibilities for a rice bag or pouch. I am so looking forward to next year’s projects especially working on a journal. Like many women I have spent most of my life trying to measure up to the expectations of others and feeling I was not good enough. I have lived passed my three score and ten and now I am not going to try not to concern myself anymore with what others think . 💕
Living in Canada, raised in Ontario and I've never been to Niagara Falls, nor eaten a foot-long anything - poor deprived old me! Loved hearing about one of your many memories of times with your Dad, Kathryn. I think he loved you very much and perhaps was the source of your amusing story telling. These squares are another winner, like little secret cubbies. Noticed that in the form of a circle, expanded rows would be alternating. The pleasure of things that are "shape shifters" - from our aboriginal people.
The "cloth" project sounds amazing! It's calling me to commit to weekly stitching next year. This year, I just couldn't. Life was just too wild. But next year might be different...
Shadows, animals, and noise are all a part of sharing your daily life while learning and listening to your stories Chili dogs were a regular part of my childhood. Cincinnati chili dogs are a very localized specialty.
Thank you so much for all the slow stitch projects and Wonky Wednesdays this year. I was enthused to start stitching again and I am so proud of my slow stitch journal. I have extra pages so have included some Wednesday projects. Park home life is great too. Looking forward to continuing next year. Again thank you.
you are so grand at choosing colors lots of snow on the ranch here in North Dakota, 3 more inches last night, I am in the house after feeding cows and horses, ready for some sewing fun
Thanks again Kathryn for another lovely project. You work so hard so if you need a break at any time, please take it. We would all understand, especially during the run up to Christmas.
This is beautiful and I will try it at some point. Looking forward to next years projects. Just want to add that I have printed your poem out and have hung it on my wall. It really touched me deep and the fact is ends on joy means so much as it’s also my middle name. The last 2 years of breast cancer diagnosis and treatments I feel like I have lost a big part of myself but “awaiting discovery is joy” pulls me back to myself a smidge each day.
This is so pretty, I love how you created the circle. Next year sounds wonderful, Kathryn, especially the comfort quilt. So glad that we will have you with us for another year. Thank you!
Hello Kathryn, I’m looking forward to joining in next year. I’ve followed you all this year even though I’ve not been doing sewing as I’ve been obsessed with paper craft. I’ve done that to death now, so I’m starting back sewing. I sure that your venture into self care will be beneficial. So often we put other people first, until we realise that we’ve got nothing left to give until we look after ourselves. Writing about your feeling is a good way of understanding and analysing them. I’m pleased that you will be continuing with Park Home Friday as I love that too. Xx
Hi Kathryn. That 'wonky slowstitch comfort blanket' you want to start next year, that's exactly what I wanted to do too! So I will join you (and do it 'me')
Love your new little pouch from last week's square and I love this week's square. You are so talented and a great teacher. I feel so fortunate and grateful that I found your TH-cam channel last November (2023) after you had just started posting videos. So I have been along for this wonderful ride from almost the very beginning. On this day before Thanksgiving (U.S.), I want to say thank you to you, Kathryn, for all of the wonderful stitching ideas and thank you for all of your always enjoyable wittering and thank you for being you and allowing all of us to follow your journey in life through the ups and downs. Many of us have been on the same journey, so we can fully empathize. I am so grateful for it all. I will happily follow along for as long as you choose to post videos. I am very happy to hear that you are going to take some time off while your son and daughter are visiting you for Christmas. I know that you will be incredibly happy to have them with you......... Hugs to Fred-Fred and Stella !!!! ETA: I'm excited about making a Slow Stitch Wonky Cloth !!!!!!! for me ...... LOL
I loved hearing about your memory with your dad....and now I am craving a chili dog! And next year sounds absolutely loverly...looking forward to the mixed media ideas. And I am most definitely ready to make my comfort cloth! The world can be falling apart but, these days, if I have some cloth and a needle and thread, I can find peace...thank you.
I love the four together forming a circle! I think I’ll have a try at the four! I love this one! I was pleased to see that Fredfred was there almost all the time helping you with your project 😁❤️💙🩷💚🩵🩶💜💛🤎🧡♥️
These little squares are among my favourites! Lovely to be with you and FredFred, tonight! Your plans for next year sound wonderful! Thank you, Kathryn - hugs to you three ❤❤❤
You could place a little love note to yourself in the little pockets. ❤️. Then when you are needing some extra love, pull out a note to yourself to help you remember just how loved and valuable you are. I think your whole community would love to send you notes of encouragement and love as well. I would!🥰
I am enjoying these little hand-stitched square ideas so much! On one block of four, using the cathedral squares, I sewed a hexi formed by folding a circle that you taught us, plus a little button. It aligns perfectly and looks so adorable!
Thank you Kathryn for talking through your ideas for next year which sound quite lovely and calming. You doing you , with us following along. Enjoy your time with your children and for thinking of all of us being able to carry on stitch merrily. I am hoping. to catch up on the weeks I haven’t completed yet.
I can’t wait to make this lovely project and the Journal next year. It will combine ALL of my hobbies so I won’t feel as though I am neglecting one.😊. Thank you so much Kathryn.💕
I am soo excited! When you talked about a new project for next year, I thought it would be nice to slow stitch a quilt, but that probably wont be the project.... Comfort cloth sounds wonderful, reflective and thoughtful. Yeahj!
Love videa for next year....a gift of comfort for me.... maybe you'll throw in some of your inspirational quotes too. I loved them even if i used my own
What a beautiful project. I loved seeing Fred Fred! He's so handsome!! The lineup for 2025 sounds AMAZING! I can hardly wait! I've had a very difficult year with several family and friends deaths and lots of stress and sadness. I really need this self cloth! Thank you for continuing in 2025. I was praying you would! Love and hugs to all ❤❤❤.
Next year’s plans sound very interesting. 2024 has been very bumpy for me, so self care is much needed and I look forward to following along with that project. Like you, I am very good at looking after others, but need to put myself first for awhile. I have a scrapbook on the go, documenting the “story of me”, but of course I edit the painful bits, as it will be left behind for grandchildren and no one needs to carry negativity forward into the future. The comfort cloth project is one I need to do as well. I look very much forward to sorting out my complicated thoughts and feelings in stitch, rather than words. As a Canadian, I am fond of Anne with an “e”, have not read the books for ages, might be time for another go! Thank you for the time and thought you have put into your plan for 2025. I will enjoy the journey with you!
Hello Fran, I am sorry you have had a bumpy year. I understand about not leaving disturbing things behind in our journals. I have some ideas for processing the negativity in a way that (hopefully) helps us but leaves no trace. I will share as we go along. I am really looking forward to it. Hugs ❤️
I grew up only about an hour from Niagara Falls, on the US side. We went there a few times as a family and my memories also are more about the motels and time with family. Perhaps for me because being one of five children in a working class family, travel of any kind was such a rarity and having my dad around for any length of time, also a rarity as he usually worked very long days, that together time was the biggest memory. Such great memories for you.
Thank you for, again, a very attractive square ready to form into something nice playing around with combinations. I am looking forward to next year's projects, and I hope to follow along with the cloth project as well. Your cat Fred Fred behaves just like mine. She loves to sit on my book, newspaper, knitting work, or quilt. They love our company ❤😊
Going to make a rice bag out of this pattern😁. Love it. Thanks for sharing Kathryn! Glad you survived Bert okay, saw in the news that it caused a fair amount of flooding in some areas and was thinking about you and hoping you were snug in your Parkland home. It seemed most damaging for those living near the sea. Looking forward to everything you have planned for next year, both journals and the comfort.
Poor Fred fred!Just reminding us all of his presence, and 👋 that he's being generous in permitting you to have time with us!!! Lol 😊😅thank you for the company& the project! See you friday(l don't have to worry about ironing as my ironing board collapsed last week!)Julia, Brisbane, Australia 😊❤xx
@k3n.clothtales & I don't intend to replace it in a hurry! Lol 😅-that's why here we call it the"silly season"; ie, play the Christmas season out first & then get serious in the New year 😄! 🤣
I'm excited to see your new mixed media journal in the new year!! I would love to make one too. Can't wait to see your process. Enjoy your family visit. That will help you recharge! ❤️
Lots of SOL (smiling out loud) during this ‘visit’ - I’m visiting with you from Nova Scotia! Making my first Rice Bag for a Christmas gift - the first of many I’m sure - Thank You for the inspiration!
Hi Kathryn… I live in Michigan & once took a trip thru our Upper Peninsula to Canada where we rented a house boat for a week, then took a side trip to Niagara Falls on the Canadian side & exited on the USA side into New York! It was an amazing trip & the falls were absolutely beautiful!
And I also love the idea of making a comfort cloth! I never make things for myself, I always make things & give them away. So the thought of making something for myself for once seems very intriguing!❤️ Very much looking forward to slow stitching with you in 2025!
I'm really quite excited by your plans, i love the idea of a 'quilt-as-you-go' comfort cloth and things that are 'cobbled together' are some of my favorite things - I absolutely feel that bead embroidery is just that, almost always, and that's one of my favorite things!! Is it going to be like your Comfort Cloth with all different sizes of things? I love that so much. I'm also really loving that you are going to make it as a gift to yourself and that you're journaling as well. (Even if it goes against the upbringing, or maybe especially BECAUSE of that.) 💚💚💚 sending loads of love 💚💚💚
Please remind us to like your videos as I keep forgetting, next year's programme sounds good. I fell by the wayside after around 12weeks, but have continued watching and enjoying your content. I have some personal favourites that I've done or aim to. A vote for the favourite of the 2024 year could be done in January. Happy parking xx
Hello Mandy, I will try to remember to remind you 😜 I know it's a pain for those watching on TV and I don't like to make people feel bad if they don't do it. And I do have an idea around favourite slowstitch week. 😉❤️
Young Master Gred Gred has his cameo in. This is good! Even in shadow, they are so sweet. Thank You for another lovely video. I'm starting to get back into stitchery again after my husband's passing. Hopefully, soon, I can catch up with the group. Looking forward to December's videos, and I'm definitely enjoying one stitch at a time with you.
Thanks for mention my paper version. I was just thinking about doing this one in paper too. But that will one of the next days, I am off to teach this evening, gel printing. Take care. ❤
I have no memory of my family's visit to Niagara Falls, but I have been told the family folklore that 3-year old Amy came running out of the restroom declaring that the toilet made such a HUGE whooshing sound it must have been the falls rushing through. These things stick with you for years and you can only hope your mom doesn't tell the story to your prom date. Looking forward to next year. I'll toddle along wherever you go. I don't do everything, and sometimes I detour because something you do piques my interest, sending me off on a tangent. Your Gees Bend segment sent me on an odyssey that's resulting in a lap quilt roughly 48" square that I hand stitched and am hand quilting just for the experience of it. I mostly machine piece & quilt, but this got me on a different experience. Anyway, "whither thou goest", I'll toddle along as I'm able. Cheers, K3n.
This reminds me of how I learned to make a perfect heart I the 1980s! Cut three symmetrical heart-shaped pieces of cloth. Lay down one heart with fabric face up. Fold the other two heart-shaped pieces in half with right-side of fabric faceing out. Place these on top of the first, making them form a heart shape with the folded edges in the center. Then sew all the way around the outside. Clip corners and cut point selvage, turn, stuff (if you want) and sew straight center edges together. Does this make sense? It’s very easy and makes a perfect heart!
Thank you for the preview of next year. I have a collection of linen men's shirts from the thrift store. Will I need pieces of them? It all sounds like fun! 😊😊
Watching this as storm Conall is raging over my house. You sold it to me as soon as you said the words ‘next year’s project….’!😀 when i was a social worker working with prostitutes, there was a lady who did a project with the women. She had them bring a coat that kept them warm and safe. And then during a few weeks she had them sew all kind of things on and into the coat. Things that were important to them or made them feel good and safe. The project was called ‘Vrouwenmantel’ (lady’s mantle), I think the stories of the ladies were also made into a book. Although slightly different, the project for next year made me think of that. We all need to consciously practice self-care so looking forward to it! Thanks for sharing yours. My favorite word (especially when you say it) has become ‘fernickity’ (is that spelled right???). The Dutch equivalent is very rude so I won’t write it. But freely and decently translated it comes down to ‘mating ants’. I totally prefer Fernickity now.😂 Love these patches and the dad-pictures and story.🍀💖❤️💐🥰😘
I certainly won't. I used to use the worst Dutch swear word that I learnt from you know who, the one with initials G V D, because of course it doesn't sound that bad to me, but he told me never to say it in the Netherlands. The funny thing is I have heard DJs on Dutch radio in daytime quite openly and casually use the F word which you wouldn't hear in the UK. There are lots of Dutch words that sound like swearing to me but aren't like 'belajalijk' don't know if I spelt it right, the word for ridiculous, sounds rude to me, as does slagroom, (if any non Dutch speakers are reading this, it just means whipped cream 😁), which also looks rude in English. 😂❤️

Yes I was very lucky, he was a great Dad and I miss him every day. Shape shifters, lovely way to look at it ❤️

I love how Fred Fred cast a inside down Batman shadow for the majority of the video 😻
He's Catman 😂❤️

There is something so soothing about thread fabric, bits and auts.
Also, kraut burgers.

Another great idea.looking forward to next years plans….loving your stories as ever,!!you have the perfect voice for telling a tale!
This is lovely. I want to make a baby quilt for my new great granddaughter, this maybe it. 2025 sounds like fun. Cant wait

I am soo excited! When you talked about a new project for next year, I thought it would be nice to slow stitch a quilt, but that probably wont be the project.... Comfort cloth sounds wonderful, reflective and thoughtful. Yeahj!
It will in effect be a slowstitch quilt, I am just avoiding using the q word as it might frighten non quilters, shhh 😁❤️
This is a lovely idea.
I will join you next year doing the cloth project, looking forward to it.
This is sweet. Reminds me of grandpa’s coin doodad.
Re: the comfort cloth-I love the sound of that!! Can’t wait!
Yes, it is like a coin purse isn't it 😁❤️
Kathryn, I'm so excited -- and comforted -- to hear about next year's "plan." xoxo
I am sorry you have had a difficult year. Hoping next year we can heal ourselves and each other together ❤️
Hugs ❤️

Lovely memories indeed ♥️
FredFred is the house owner, so cute!
Thanks for giving us an idea of your plans for next year. Sounds very exciting. We are so lucky!
Thank you so much for showing us this amazing project, 🧵🪡♥️
Thank you for, again, a very attractive square ready to form into something nice playing around with combinations.
I am looking forward to next year's projects, and I hope to follow along with the cloth project as well.
Your cat Fred Fred behaves just like mine. She loves to sit on my book, newspaper, knitting work, or quilt.
They love our company ❤😊
They do, and I think maybe they also like to supervise 😁❤️
I totally agree 😂
Going to make a rice bag out of this pattern😁. Love it. Thanks for sharing Kathryn! Glad you survived Bert okay, saw in the news that it caused a fair amount of flooding in some areas and was thinking about you and hoping you were snug in your Parkland home. It seemed most damaging for those living near the sea. Looking forward to everything you have planned for next year, both journals and the comfort.
My pleasure, yes we got off lightly here 🥰
The idea of the "Journey Journal 2025" sounds wonderful.

Lovely project today, Kathryn. So excited about the plans for next year! ❤
Enjoyable project ❤ I like the 🔵 also. All of next year's plans are exciting.
2025 sounds great, I have "retired" so hoping to have more time to sew. Yay ❤
I'm excited to see your new mixed media journal in the new year!! I would love to make one too. Can't wait to see your process. Enjoy your family visit. That will help you recharge! ❤️

Yes, a cobbled together comfort cloth, all different sizes of things. A perfect description ❤️
I love this project. Love the fact you have a bent needle, I also have several of these 😂 xx
Thank you! It's my favourite needle 😁❤️

You just reminded me to hit the like button. 😂😂
That is so cool ,
I like both of these patterns

Thank You for another lovely video. I'm starting to get back into stitchery again after my husband's passing. Hopefully, soon, I can catch up with the group.

Thanks for mention my paper version. I was just thinking about doing this one in paper too. But that will one of the next days, I am off to teach this evening, gel printing. Take care. ❤
Your stitching is so neat its difficult to make the piece as pretty as yours ! But I love these last two weeks - very challenging but great .
I have no memory of my family's visit to Niagara Falls, but I have been told the family folklore that 3-year old Amy came running out of the restroom declaring that the toilet made such a HUGE whooshing sound it must have been the falls rushing through. Oh I am laughing my socks off, though poor little Amy! 😂 Happy to have you toddling along ❤️
It does make sense, what a lovely idea ♥️
Definitely "rice bag material" here ! 😂
❤❤❤❤
Orange peel looks like a cats eye lol perfect for Fred Fred supervision
Oh yes, a supervising cat's eye 😁♥️
Thank you for the preview of next year. I have a collection of linen men's shirts from the thrift store. Will I need pieces of them? It all sounds like fun! 😊😊
I am sure pieces of them will find a home ❤️

What a wonderful project with the coats. Now I need to Google the Dutch for fernickety 😂❤️
@ just promise to never say it out loud in your videos (the Dutch word) and….you didn’t hear it from me 🤐😎😃💐🍀💖😍
Oh and I think if you look it up it will give you a different translation. The one I mean is a bit more like Dutch slang I guess😎
I googled, and I did know it already 😁❤️
Just cut mine out ready to start. Sorry Kathryn, it was me that called it a Japanese Cathedral Square.
No need to apologise, I wasn't criticising, just pointing out to avoid confusion. Several people said it 😁❤️
Could we do a square in a square. I enjoy the way you teach.
