I have being a patch work and quilter for over 30 years hand quilting has always being hard for me to get even, what a clever idea with coloured collar on the needle to keep it even and your thread looks very interesting to try. Also again a simple idea using your paper templates to create designs. I think I have always made things to complicated. Watching you work makes look so much more simple and beautiful. Thank you

I absolutely love this video. My sewing machine broke a few years ago and I can't afford to get a new one just yet. I really wanted to make a quilt to take to university with me for two reasons. One, because they look gorgeous and it would be a nice, sustainable item to take with me. And two, quilts, much like university, are very daunting when you first start. I was worried my project would never get off the ground because I no longer have a machine, and I wasn't sure if this would work with handsewing, but thanks to this video I'm now so close to finishing this thing. I am eternely grateful.
Love your quilt and colours. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge. Enjoying the calm you bring and it helps me to relax...life is not easy at the moment. x Blessings x Mariana UK xx
Thanks for showing the use of the marked needles. I was a little unsure of how they work. I'm glad you can get packages of different needles, which have different lengths of markings. Because I learned to hand quilt in the 1980s. The stitch standard was much different than it is today. I was never able to get stitches that small. But what I was able to manage is still much smaller than what is done today. With an assorted pack, I should find something that will please me. My problem is that I can't find those needles here in the US at present. Are you able to ship to the US? I have always believed in trying new things. I want to start your style of quilt as you go this year. First I want to finish some wips. I've made a list of up 9 wips to rotate through. It is helping not get bored and pushing on one at a time. After I finish one, I will put a ufo into that number in the rotation. After I finish 2, I will allow starting a new project. But from that point, I will only start a new project after completing 4 wips or ufos.
Sounds like you have a good plan for your projects this year. Yes I ship to the US but postage costs are really expensive unfortunately so you would have to consider if it was worth it in relation to what you would like to buy.🌸
Dear Emma, another fantastic video! I do hand quilting when finishing my quilts. I must use a hoop or the back of my quilt stitches look comical. Yours look beautiful . Peace to you, lovely person.

Thank you, great tutorial, the needles are a super help. I have tried and found my stitches on the back were not straight like the front, I can only laugh. As always beautiful work a pleasure to see.
Such lovely work Emma, your quilt looks so squishy and cosy! I love all the colours that you use, thank you for sharing all that you do xx if you fancy trying traditional small hand quilting, you can buy fabric with some designs printed on them. They are called whole cloth designs, and you can buy small samples that are 16”, I’ve brought some from the cotton patch and intend to make a table centre piece as some practice as I love the look of this type of quilting.
You have a wonderful voice! ☺️. Thank you for your encouragement and for the great recommendations. I can’t wait to order needles with colors that would really help stitches as even as possible. I appreciate you. 👏🏼🤗🌷

Thank you so much for another wonderful video. The explanation of your notions and then how you picked the design for the stitching were very helpful. And your quilt is just beautiful! 💖 19:38
thank you for this beautiful video. at the moment I only do big stitch quilting (I'm using a sashiko tread) But I bought myself a wholecloth panel to learn the small quilting stitches technique , baby size ;-)
Great information and very beautiful quilt. It looks very accessible and approachable to a beginner. The first hand quilted project that I did was basically just straight stitching patterns around a patch quilt in different ways, like in circles, or swirled or lines, or whatever, and I love that but I wanted to know kind of more of a actual proper quilting way . to do it because I was just winging it. I have only done a few projects and only a couple of them involves anything like real quilting, and nothing like this that was well thought out. I did love my most recent one though, because the hand stitching was a lot more enjoyable than I had expected it would be and it was definitely a big stitch style so I would like to refine that a bit and this was a great guide. I gave that quilt to somebody and I don’t remember who and I am still so sad that I cannot remember who I gave it to and I only have one picture of it and I just loved it.
☕️ Oh Emma! Thank you so much for the beautiful video editing. . . , I didn’t realise that I needed to calm down and relax 🧵 THIS episode makes me so happy. I feel inspired and confident because of YOU 💋💋🪴
Emma you're doing a great job on your quilt. I've only used quilting frames, I think I'll have to give this a try. Love the vintage vibe of your quilt!
Thank you so much for this. This is exactly what I needed. For thimbles, what I have found when sewing, is that using micropore tape is great. I cover my finger with a strip of paper ( toilet paper or tissue paper) and then roll the tape around my finger a few times. This fits my finger perfectly, and because of the paper inside it's reusable for quite some time. Hope this makes sense and may be useful for someone else too.
Oh my goodness, I absolutely love watching you. I learn so much from you. You make everything seem doable. Your voice is so deliciously calming that I could have you on all day as background noise. Your choice of fabrics is beautiful and very pleasing to my eyes. Thank you so very much for sharing yourself.
I bought that orange silicon thimble with the metal end. I think it’s a clover brand. I returned it because the silicon grips the fabric, and so it catches
Ohhhhhh Emma you’ve given us a whole book of knowledge in just this episode; Thank You I’m really interested in EEP and hand quilting. So I’m enjoying learning from you!!! Of course I don’t know when I’ll even start the first project, but I’m getting ideas… ❤️😀
Thank you for showing just the basics of hand quilting. I am motivated to try it now I know the thread to use. I just love all your videos and always feel I don't need to stress about sewing but take my time and enjoy the process. ❤🪡🧵
Well done, Emma, another gentle and so peaceful video, and so packed with great information! I have been lap quilting for years, and I make a lot of my own templates. You don't need to spend loads of money to quilt, but as another lady said, there are so many videos that suggest you need all this expensive equipment when you can achieve lovely results without it. Anyone short of funds could have a look in charity shops for men's shirts, 100% cotton is easiest to sew through, and there is a lot of material there once it is cut down. Best wishes, you are doing a great job!!! Xxx
Thank you Loraine. I totally agree, great results can be achieved without spending a fortune. I really want people to see that so they will give it a go too. Thanks ever so much for watching 🌸
hello i have just found your tutorial thank you . I have always wanted to do this but didnt know where to start. You have explained it very well and made it so easy to take all the information in without fuss and stress Best wishes Lynda
That is such a sweet quilt! I didn't know there were needles with measuring marks on them. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and beautiful creations!
That is such a beautiful quilt, Emma. I've tried a bit of very simple straight line big stitch quilting, but had no idea that you could find hand quilting patterns! Your videos are such a help to those of us who are just beginning to learn these skills 😊
Oh sweetheart!! What an absolutely, stunning quilt! This is just so beautiful to look at. It's just a fine, hand made thing of exquisite beauty! It is rather intimidating for a beginner like myself. You seem to speak the quilting language, making all the lovely pieces of fabric come together and behave, forming such a fine thing as this quilt. Did you see this in your mind beforehand or did it take on a mind of its own? I am mindblown as I love your choice of fabrics and the fluidness of your central panel and the surrounding hexes is everything I imagine a quilt to be. Thank you for this video. I'll be back, your admirer Lisa
Thanks so much for the information about those really cool needles! I’ve always worked hard on keeping my stitches even size length and these needles will be a joy to use as I love to hand quilt🤗
thank you this was a awsom video very helpful because its true this has been very intimidating to say the least but you have made me feel like i can do the finishing on a quilt thank you i loved it
Hi Emma. Your quilting is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing your beautiful design’s with us. I had never heard of EPP until I see one of your tutorials when I was on holiday a couple of years ago, Thanks to you My daughter and I have both enjoyed working together. It has really helped us get through some difficult times, thank you for this. 😊 xxx
Thank you for sharing that with me Sharon. I’m sorry you have both experienced some difficult times, I’m glad some stitching helped you through. Take care
Oh Emma what a beautiful quilt ! I love the fabric, patterns & thread that you've used. Thanks for the tips as I've just started practising hand quilting on small project. My stitches don't always go through to the back & I think this may be for several reasons: my stitches are too small using 12wt thread, I glue basted with diluted Elmers's glue (new TH-cam fad that I shouldn't have followed for hand sewing !!!) & I doubled polyester batting to add depth. Bad idea !!!!! I'm going to try your way with bigger stitches, cotton batting, a fine leather thimble & those handy dandy needles with marks on them (you can never have too many needles or thimbles !!!). Merci beaucoup for your help. Bisous from the French Pyrenees. xxxxx
Thank you, Emma for such an informative and inspiring video. I haven’t tried hand quilting yet but I’m definitely wanting to try it. Your quilt is so beautiful and your hand quilting looks so great!! Those needles with the color showing the distance of the stitches seem like such a great idea!! See you soon!❤️
As usual, a beautiful and relaxing video for us all to watch, thank you Emma. Like others, I look forward to your videos very much, they help me improve all my stitching projects and inspire me to try other projects. Bless you. 🇳🇿😀

Stitching in hand, or Quilting in hand, or Hand Quilting is what it's called, when quilting without a frame or hoop.

Thank you Ann!🤗🌸
The big stitch way of hand quilting is less intimidating and relieves the pressure of the small stitching technique. Thank you for sharing your video.
Thanks so much for watching Rebecca
@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox you're welcome. ☺️
thank you for this beautiful video. at the moment I only do big stitch quilting (I'm using a sashiko tread) But I bought myself a wholecloth panel to learn the small quilting stitches technique , baby size ;-)
sounds lovely Emilie, I want to try the small stitches too
subscribed one minute in due to your incredibly kind-sounding and calming voice. oh yeah, and also because I am about to start hand-quilting 😊
oh thank you! That means a lot. Have fun hand quilting
☕️ Oh Emma!
Thank you so much for the beautiful video editing. . . , I didn’t realise that I needed to calm down and relax 🧵
THIS episode makes me so happy.
I feel inspired and confident because of YOU 💋💋🪴
What a lovely thing to say, thank you Lindsey 🌸
Emma you're doing a great job on your quilt. I've only used quilting frames, I think I'll have to give this a try.
Love the vintage vibe of your quilt!
Thank you Shirley! I think if I was doing more sense quilting I would try a frame. I tried a hoop but it didn’t work for me 🌸
Beautiful and very informative, Thank you so much .
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching 🌸
Love love love this video, I have learnt so much and when I get round to quilting my first huge quilt I will certainly have more confidence ❤
oh I am so glad to hear that! thanks for watching
Hope this makes sense and may be useful for someone else too.
great tip, thank you!
❤ absolutely beautiful
Thank you!
As always, your work is beautiful. Wonderful tips!
Thank you so much!
💖 beautiful hand quilting 🌹
Thank you! 😊🌸
Your work is so lovely, Emma! Thank you for sharing.

Love the fabrics you use in your creations Emma, they're so pretty and dainty and just yummy. Thank you for your encouragement, and inspiration.
Thank you so much!
I love your projects, Thankyou for your videos!
Oh my goodness, I absolutely love watching you. I learn so much from you. You make everything seem doable. Your voice is so deliciously calming that I could have you on all day as background noise. Your choice of fabrics is beautiful and very pleasing to my eyes. Thank you so very much for sharing yourself.
oh thank you Cynthia! Extremely kind words, thank you so much
@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox you are so very welcome.
I bought that orange silicon thimble with the metal end. I think it’s a clover brand. I returned it because the silicon grips the fabric, and so it catches
Emma your quilt is beautiful 🦋 thank you for this tutorial 🫠🌺
Thank you Emma! I really do love watching your tutorials 💖
Thank you ever so much Carol, that is so so kind of you and is so appreciated 🤗🌸❤️
Ohhhhhh Emma you’ve given us a whole book of knowledge in just this episode; Thank You
I’m really interested in EEP and hand quilting. So I’m enjoying learning from you!!! Of course I don’t know when I’ll even start the first project, but I’m getting ideas… ❤️😀
Thank you Rachel! It’s lovely to hear the video was useful. I hope you get started soon. Take care
Thank you for showing just the basics of hand quilting. I am motivated to try it now I know the thread to use. I just love all your videos and always feel I don't need to stress about sewing but take my time and enjoy the process. ❤🪡🧵
Aww thank you Jacqueline, I hope you love it when you give it a try 🧵🤗
Thank you Emma, I have just got to the point of quilting and your video has helped greatly..
You’re welcome 😊 happy quilting!
You have explained it very well and made it so easy to take all the information in without fuss and stress
Best wishes
Lynda
thank you Lynda, I am so glad it was useful
That is such a sweet quilt! I didn't know there were needles with measuring marks on them. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and beautiful creations!
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching
Beautiful quilting...love watching quilting videos learn something new from each one! Thank you for sharing your videos!
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching
That is such a beautiful quilt, Emma. I've tried a bit of very simple straight line big stitch quilting, but had no idea that you could find hand quilting patterns! Your videos are such a help to those of us who are just beginning to learn these skills 😊
I’m so glad it was helpful! I really enjoyed creating the quilting pattern and now want to do more, it’s addictive!
Such a beautiful video! Perfect to have on in the background as I begin my first hand quilting project 🧵🪡
I'll be back, your admirer Lisa
oh what a lovely comment! thank you so much. I had an idea of how I wanted it to look beforehand but it evolved as I went too
Beautiful work ❤ the quilt looks cozy and yummy
Thank you! 😊
Thanks so much for the information about those really cool needles! I’ve always worked hard on keeping my stitches even size length and these needles will be a joy to use as I love to hand quilt🤗
I am so glad it was useful Cheryl, happy stitching
thank you this was a awsom video very helpful because its true this has been very intimidating to say the least but you have made me feel like i can do the finishing on a quilt thank you i loved it
Glad it was helpful!
Bisous from the French Pyrenees. xxxxx
I hope you've had more success, I'm sure with those changes it will work perfectly. take care and thanks so much for watching x
Love your video, great tip with the needles.
thank you Debra, the needles are really great
Thanks!
Oh thank you so so much! That’s so kind of you and very much appreciated 🤗
Thank you so much Cathy, I find hand quilting very relaxing, I am sure you would too
Your quilting is the loveliest I've seen. 💖👍👍
