I get that there was that hesitation in the last drift, but there were a couple of pauses during the previous drift. Were you shallower in the last drift so you knew it wasn't just bumping the bottom?
If you’re fishing that close are you able to feel the bite? I’ve been trying to test this and it’s so hard my only indication for a bite/snag is set the hook when the sighter is not moving anymore lol
The percentage of eats that I feel is small compared to what I see watching the sighter. When I'm teaching Euro nymphing, I always say you will be more productive watching the sighter to strikes rather than feeling the strike. Play with height of rod tip to tighten up on your rig to have better strike detection as well, you may have a little too much slack subsurface to see more strikes. Thanks for watching!
@@NMaktimaFlyFishing I actually literally asked about this on a Reddit forum and I was trying to determine how to get the tight line subsurface but I guess it’s really playing with the height of the rod tip. I’m still pretty new the euro nymphing game so I’m always using 6ft of tippet in most of the waters i fish.
@@JoshTheFlyGuy I usually adjust my length of tippet to match the average depth of water I am fishing. In my area most water I fish is 3-4ft. So from my tippet ring to point fly is about 4’. If your fishing water less than 6’, shorten up your tippet and that will prevent you from increasing slack subsurface as you may be trying to hold sighter close to the waters surface in shallower depths. That is Rio Toned Sighter. I use both the Pink/Chart & the Black/White. Two-ish feet of the Pink/chart and three feet of Black/White to tippet ring. That color combo is great in varying light and back ground colorations. Yes, the sun light angle is highlighting that sighter glow as well.

I've had many days euro nymphing and fly in general where hungry trout will happily leave shade to warm sun in fast moving water to heat up and get active and find food. They aren't much different than people, sometimes. So, Myth debunked. Play around and keep learning! Fish will always surprise you.
That sighter makes a world of difference, very visible! I'm sure the reflection of the sun contributed to its reflection!

Fish prefer shade over sunlight. You shoulda been fishing the shade the whole time
The fish didn't mind the sun that day. First fish, solid 20", was in the sun.
