Single Fly & Pocket Water Tactics
มุมมอง 1.6K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
I find so much water goes untouched from most fly fishers. During my years in competition I found many instances where fishing a single fly gave me better results. Efficiency, accuracy and adaptability are important to the tactics of becoming a better angler. I hope this gives you more insight into breaking down your river and the approach you should take when fishing a single fly set up. visit...

Another great vid, thanks Norm! Never fished that drainage, thanks for showing it.
Another one to add to the list. Thanks for watching, Cheers!
Awesome video! Great action
Yeah that was a fun session! Thanks for watching
Up until recently, I had never heard of the San Juan Cutthroat. I always thought that the fish native to the west side of the San Juan Mountains were the Colorado River Cutthroats. There is an article in Colorado Outdoors that describes the rediscovery of a distinct lineage, first discovered in the San Juan River at Pagosa Springs back in the 19th Century. Having grown up in New Mexico, it would be the ultimate life-goal to see cutthroat reestablished in their native range. The Chuska, Cebolleta, and the area near Dulce are all within the San Juan basin, plus there is the San Juan itself. Imagine a day where you can find three different susbspecies of cutthroats, San Juan, Rio Grande, and Yellowfin (Arkansas River basin) all on a journey along US 64. It is not that there is anything wrong with the way it is, rather, it is important that we leave the watersheds better than we found them, someone in the future will appreciate the effort.
Dang Norm. Looks like you were fishing at a Hatchery! 🤣 That's an awesome day! Always fun to watch your vids. Thanks.
Hatchery is a pretty close description of the water. Had a great day playing there lol. Thanks for watching!
Do you think streamers would have brought bigger fish
Always a possibility.
900+ CFS?
@@subvertit yeah that was at 900cfs.
🥳🥳🥳🤜🏼🤛🏼
Great content Norm! Are you running a euro fly line or a floating line?
I am fishing a floating Double Taper 2 wt line. Thanks for watching!
I have the Shadow X 10’6” 3 weight. Would you recommend a 2wt line or a 3 weight floating line?
@@JeffKurtz-v7f I recommend a DT2F. That is what I am running with on my 10'6" 3wt Shadow X.
Thank you for the info. One more question what is your leader setup? You mentioned your sighter, tippet etc?

Awesome Norm! I like fishing egg patterns for a reason….😂
Right! Thank you for watching!
Love Montana fishing. Thanks for sharing the content!
Thank you for watching!
Excellent! Hope you got to fish even more on your business trip.
Fishing is my business 😆
Always fun watching you do your thing! Thanks Norm!
Appreciated! Thanks for watching!
Great stuff Norm. I for one appreciate that you got that chance. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, stay tuned for part 2 next firday.

Donde es esto?
Great video mate! I liked very much how you adapted to the situation.
Thanks and appreciate you viewing the video! Cheers!
Whatever isn't right in life can be made better by time on the river.
Thanks and thanks for watching!
One of my favorite public stretches of that river. Great stuff Norm!
Yes indeed! Thanks for watching!
What was the paste you use on your sighter?
I like Payette Paste from Loon. Thanks for watching.
Changing and adapting. Great stuff Norm! Thanks.
Thank you for watching!
Fun watching you fish and learning from you! Thanks Norm!!
Thanks and thank you for watching!
Dude, please get that cough checked out, we want you healthy! Thanks for the vid.
Yeah its persistant especially now...my allergy season. Thank you for your concern and thanks for watching!
Nice!
What kind of floatant did you say you use? I didn't catch that as you said. Thanks Norman.
I use Loon Aquel.
Another great fly-fishing video around 4-corners!
Thanks for watching!
So rather than ‘match the hatch’ with sz 20 nymphs I can substitute the Perdigons? I was thinking a weighted SJ worm for bottom fly and a Texas midge or similar for dropper?
Yeah, T-hole fish may be more picky, but then I have done well there stripping streamers too. Mix it up and play with other rigs / technuiques, rather than watching the same ole bobber lol! Have a fun and thanks for watching!
Great too see a new video! Nope, guess I will not be building out that new Diamondback EN blank.

Hey Norm, long time lurker, first time poster. As a new Southwest transplant, I have become fully addicted to The Juan, and now I only bring my euro stick, thanks to your instruction. #donteurothejuan
Definitely give a try! Thanks for watching as well!
Vida trucha and I were talking about how a lot of people started this doing this after your first video
Haha started a trend. Still dialing it in, which means i have to be on the water to do my research lol. Thanks!
Yeah….I’m never going to Euro fish on the San Juan. You made it very clear that it DOES NOT WORK! So few fish caught…..😂😉🎣
What a great day of fishing Norm! Thanks for sharing. I would have liked you to show us the patterns you used even though you did describe them.
Yeah, I forgot to add those in. Will try to get those posted on a tying video. Thanks!
I’ll be fishing the San Juan on Oct.18-19&20th. Yes, I’m taking my 10ft 6in euro rod along with my 5 wt. and seeing which I like best.
Euro does not work on the San Juan!! Your are probably the best fly fisherman in the world, so I’m confident you could catch a 26” brown in a manhole in Main Street Farmington!😂 Thanks for the great vid Norm!! I always learn something from you every time!
It is a great river to run various rigs and techniques
@@locomtn16a2 Thanks for watching, much appreciated.
I just checked out your website. I really appreciate your designs. I get hyped by your video coverage of Southwest fly fishing. The chill vibe with the soundtrack, the beautiful reflections of water, the amazing fish, it keeps me in the 'dreamy' stage of fly fishing. I actually stumbled on your Perdichingon tying lesson on Umpqua Feather Merchants channel, awesome.
Thats awesome and hope the Perdichingon is doing well for you! Thanks for watching!
Strip strip boom!
You always make it look so easy Norm! Great video and thanks for sharing!
Fun times!!
Indeed! Thanks for watching!
Hey Norm! Glad to see you having some fun out there!
Gotta keep it fun!
@@NMaktimaFlyFishing We miss you here in Santa Fe Norm! ATB!
What river are you on, Norman? Looks like they took the fly on the mend. Awesome
That was the San Juan. On the mend, strip, pause...they were happy to eat a streamer that day!
Streamers i believe, produce some of your better fish catches! Enjoyed your video!
It is definitely exciting to see fish chase the streamer! Thanks for watching!
Good stuff man! We gotta get on the water together sometime 😁🎣
For sure man & thanks!
Been trying to step up my dry dropper game especially in windy conditions with my euro rig. More good info thank you.
Awesome to hear you are gained soem info from the video. Thanks for watching!
I never quit soaking up knowledge from you NM. Thank you for what you teach here.
Cheers!
Great video an always Norm. You are absolutely right about fishing the whole river too. Thanks for sharing.
Loved this content. Looking for ways to improve my euro game this is helpful. I’ve been a die in the wool 2 & 3 fly guy but am starting to transition into lighter flies and micro leaders. More content like this please. 🙏
Awesome! Thanks for watching.
Great instruction Norm! Thanks for sharing.
