    You can fold flat the second row. It is not as straightforward as other cars. You push out the lower cushion seat (it has a hinge for this) and then fold down the back of the seat

    I recently purchased an outlander GT and I'm very happy with it. for the money I pay around $29000 I got adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning forward collision mitigation navigation ( although no the best system I had) and a in general good looking car. Granted the style is not edgy but the driving is very comfortable and smooth. As per the lack of power is very relative, the car weight 3500 lb compared to to other vehicles like the Jeep grand Cherokee or Nissan rouge which are much heavier so the pounds per horsepower ration is similar to many vehicles in its class. As for speed, I have a 5.0 mustang that takes care of my needs. it is really stupid to think that a 7 passenger car will be faster, this class is about safety and comfort and for the money there is no really another car that compete with it.

    I first want to say great video. It's nice to see an accurate detailed review of Mitsubishi's S-AWC. I've tried watching SUV/Crossover reviews and time after time the review is bias or the Outlander is never included, despite it's excellent reputation among those who own them. I own at 2010 Outlander GT. I've never had an issue in similar driving conditions (Calgary Alberta) and only been to the shop once to repair the gas release.

    A couple thoughts. First this has to be the most underrated channel dealing with car reviews I have seen. I have enjoyed all the reviews. They are pretty thorough and complete.
    Now for this video on snow I think you should really do some tire comparisons or something. These tires are NOT for snow use. Please try this sort of thing twice once with good snow tires and once with stock tires.

      Everyman Driver That is a serious bummer. Perhaps for your personal vehicle you can do a comparison some day. In fact if you are in spokane and happen to venture down to the Portland/Vancouver area and want to borrow some tires for testing purposes, I might be able to set you up as long as they are 15 or 16 inch wheels. Just give me a shout come winter.

    Has sold me on this vehicle. I'm scouring to a buy new 2014 (2015 if I can catch a deal). All the other reviews I've read about this vehicle talk and treat it like a sports car, except yours. It's like a hidden agenda against the company....
    What I really liked about this review is that you didn't sit there and complain about the Cvt (We get it not many like the Cvt) or compare it to other vehicles for the duration of video. Please keep that trend, unless the vehicles you mention are tested in the same video of course.
    And most importantly this was done without real snow tires.

    Hi Dave, Cool video but I just need to add one thing. The middle seats actually do fold flat in this vehicle. They don't just slide forward as you showed in your video. Pull the front part of the seat upward and you will figure out the rest. Its actually super easy and a great design. You will have to remove the headrests but this has been improved even more ion the 2016 model and you don't need to remove the headrests.

      Eric Dicaire I would have to disagree also I haven't driven this vehicle, I own a 2015 jeep grand cherokee overland diesel iam pretty sure it has more power, more options, looks better and is obviously better offroad, tow more and ride better. Air suspension with ride hight and Quadra drive with a locking differential I highly doubt it's better and I can list off a bunch of more features

    • @ryckyml
      @ryckyml 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ken Ahenakew Sure, im agree to all of what you say, but you have to compare apple to apple here. Your Jeep is one of a hell true 4x4 machine, and on another level if your compare it to an Outlander. The full equiped Grand Cherokee is more comparable to the Volkswagen Touareg or even a Mercedes class SUV. Its value is at least 20K more than a Outlander GT. But at my opinion, the Outlander is a great ''bang for the buck''. Its a very reliable machine with a good warranty.
      Great buy by the way, congrats for your Jeep! I wish i had the money to put the GC diesel on the top of my list, but with twins on the way, i had to downsize the budget a bit for 2015. I had a very good rebate on another new Outlander, more equiped for less money/month. The choice was obvious. ;-)

    Hey Everyman Driver! I am a salesman for 112 Mitsubishi a dealer on Long Island New York! Just wanted to let you know that the second row in the Outlander Line DOES indeed fold flat! You must lift the lower part of the seat in the second row toward the front of cabin and it reveals a switch which allows you to fold the upper seat flat!!

    This Mitsubishi did about as well as the 4 Runner you tested...it certainly got out of the ice pond alot quicker. If it had real off road tires it would be unstoppable. Plus Mitsubishi has a much longer warranty 5year60k bumper to bumper. 10 yr 100k engine and transmission warranty.

    Great job, as always, Dave! Not terribly long ago I was bumping around the streets in my Wrangler when I got passed by a random SUV that made me think "Well that's a great size for my wife. And it looks good, what is that thing?" I was quite surprised when I caught back up to it to find it was a Mitsubishi. Sadly, my first thought was "they're still in business?" Fast forward to today, I'm skimming through my subscribe list and there's that Mitsubishi again! This time it's going up a snowy v-notch that I'd be concerned taking my wrangler up with what Falken calls "all terrain" tires. I had to click play to see if you tried the pond again.
    My one thought on the third row in the Outlander is that I think it's the right size and I hope Mitsubishi doesn't make it any larger. My reasoning is jump seats are great to use from time to time. For example; My wife drives a Jeep Commander, and it has a third row of jump seats. That works great for us. We're a small young family, the extra seats are great when the in laws are wanting me to drive to dinner, but they're not so comfy that they say we should go on a road trip together. When the in-laws are not around, I still get to have a reasonably sized SUV. The outlander would be on my very short list of possible replacements due to this "appropriately sized" third row.

    Hi Love how you take risks. The best thing about S-AWC is how it has torque vectoring and active yaw control, you have to do some drifting to check it out! By the way, how is it possible that you couldn't open the owner's manual to figure out how to fold down the 2nd row of seats? The seat bottoms move forward, remove the headrests and the seat backs go flat with a well hidden button. I do have the 2014 and will be going through my first Winter, thanks for your review in the snow!

    Love the video. I was hoping you would talk more about the Traction Control system. I am trying to understand when I should have Traction Control on and in what situations I would turn it off for my Outlander. Getting ready for the Ski Season and excited about the potential but not seeing alot on this subject.

    • @kkenmore63
      @kkenmore63 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you are thinking about stability control. Very different. Traction control is a good thing. If one of your wheels spins, it applies brakes to that wheel causing the opposite wheel to turn. Thus putting power to the wheels with the best traction.
      Stability control uses brakes and throttle control to keep the vehicle in a straight line. In some off road situations, this works against you. For example, if you are driving through deep snow or mud, sometimes the vehicle will turn to the side. If the stability control is on, it will sense that and apply brakes to certain wheels and reduce throttle to straighten out the vehicle. So you're on the gas trying to gain and maintain forward momentum to get through a tough spot, meanwhile the car is applying brakes and reducing throttle to straighten the vehicle out, thus making the tough spot more difficult. It's best to have the stability control off when you're off road. It's not really needed in those situations, and sometimes it works against you..

    I noticed even when in "lock" that one of the rear wheels had no power going to it. Obviously, the traction control system isn't as advanced as say a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk.

    • @Natural11001001
      @Natural11001001 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lock is just for the power split. It does not have a true locking differential, like you would find in some jeeps or land rovers. However for stability, the S-AWC system is phenomenal. Just rolling over 160,000km in mine and I'm consistently impressed with highway stability in blizzard and deep snow conditions. Awesome vehicle for stability in the snow and keeping you safe, but if you want to do real off-roading, get a Jeep.

    Great review Dave!
    Despite the ugly look, the Outlander is really a good SUV. Can't wait for the new look for the 2016 model on the autumn 2015. For the record, i have a 2011 Outlander V6 with the standard AWC, and with proper winter tires nothing can't stop you (just remember you don't have any skid plates under). At my opinion people must choose the V6 because the 4 cylinders don't fell very powerful for a vehicule of this size. The V6 drink almost the same amount of fuel on highway, and at my experience this motor is more flexible and fun to drive everyday. Im having 75 000km on mine ( around 47K miles) and no problem with it whatsoever. Despite the poor quality of the paint and some cheap plastic, the Outlander is a very reliable machine...maybe im gonna trade mine when the 2016 is gonna coming out.

      Juste trade my 2011 for a new 2015 SE Touring package two week ago! If i compare from my 2011, it is a better truck overall. More quiet a bit on the road and more modern everywhere. Better handling and a nicer fit and finish with soft plastic everywhere....i just like it! The 2015 have a new front facia and it have a better look by far! My 2011 had a strong resale value, and i had no problem with it in 80 000km, so this is why i choose to go for a 2015 ;-) The Outlander combine the Japanese quality with better pricing than Toyota or Honda.

  • @AWCAWD
    @AWCAWD 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Dave, The second row seats ARE folding flat. Since in your former Outlander review you also complained about the lack of this feature, here is how to do it. First, you should fold the lower seating surfaces forward and then the upper portion. In case you are planning to review the Buick Encore in the near future just remember this trick as the back seats of that car are also folding the same way. Nice review but without proper snow tires it is irrelevant. Imagine, if the runners during the 100 m dash in an Olympic game would wear boots instead of running shoes. Would you be able to judge how fast they can run? I am sure the dealerships should be able to mount proper snow tires, especially where you are in the PNW.

    I dont think he needed to put the AWC/AWD system in lock. As long as you have some speed and KEEP A STEADY THROTTLE you should be fine in snow mode. All the lock mode does is keep the system from reverting back to 2WD. It does not lock a separate differential from the center one. That being said, congrats to Mitsubishi, there AWC system is very very good. I would say comparable to Subaru. The main difference being that Subaru is more mechanical and Mitsubishi is more electronic. Very good systems either way.
