I like how TFL actually takes the vehicles offroad, unlike alot of other car review channels that just drive them on a perfectly maintained dirt road and call that offroading

I traded in my 2 door wrangler for an Outlander V6. I miss the wrangler daily but life happens. With 8 year old twins, the Wrangler was getting too cramped and I couldn't justify dropping nearly $40k on a 4 door wrangler with the options I wanted. The outlander has a kid sized third row, great AWD system, modern tech (adaptive cruise, android auto, led headlamps, around view camera, top safety scores, etc) and the price was thousands cheaper than similar vehicles (I didn't pay anywhere near sticker). I couldn't be happier. So far it's been flawless. Best of all, it's unique. I rarely see myself on the road, which was part of the appeal for me. I'll probably go back to a wrangler when the kids are grown, but for now I'm enjoying the soccer dad Outlander. I know they're not for everyone and there are plenty of mitsubishi haters out there, but my experience has been very positive thus far. If you're in the market, I'd suggest at least giving them a look.

pasta1298 Yeah, it seems that there’s a lot of hate for Mitsubishi. Yes, I know they stopped building sport cars but at the end of the day, the Lancer Evo is a niche car, just like the STI for Subaru. I mean, how many foresters are there on the road for every STI? I think Mitsubishi is doing the smart thing by focusing on what they’re good at, gaining revenue, and then can spend it on those “fun” cars again.
I agree 100% with you that the AWC system is great. 3.0 V6 and transmission are smooth as well. I like that it’s not too quiet either; it’s nice to hear some noise when I’m on the gas.

Brandon Ly Some time ago I wanted an SUV which was good and different from all the other SUV's you see out there. So I bought an Isuzu Axiom. I liked it and drove it for a while, however, the company stopped selling non-commercial vehicles in the US, and all its dealerships closed. I ended up trading it in and, again, for something looking different on the road - Suzuki XL7. I liked that vehicle, and it served me and my family well, but we all know what happened to Suzuki of America. Last year I was looking for a new car and was seriously considering an Outlander, but, at the end, I decided to go with something else. Based on what happened to those Japanese companies, Isuzu and Suzuki, with their small car market shares in the US I am convinced that Mitsubishi is still selling cars in America only because I did not buy one from them last year.

Haha. Luckily it seems like Mitsubishi is doing a decent job of growing it's market share. Where I live, I've been seeing a consistent increase in Mitsu vehicles as years pass. Maybe you should buy one and see if they go away! haha.

We replaced our 2007 Honda Pilot w a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander. We also currently own a 2014 Accord Sport. Prior to the Pilot we also owned a 2003 CRV. Long story short - we used to be a Honda Only family. My cousin and neighbor told me how happy they were with their Outlander. Don't rely on the professional reviews. Drive it for yourself. We are very pleased with the 2018 Outlander. Great sound system and a lot softer ride than the CRV.

@@JohnSmith-wx9wj wrong it prevents the system from spinning due to stress on the cvt which is shit in any car. Look at the subaru performance up the gold mine a disaster. Yet the highlander they did not push like these two cars nor the honda pilot. I feel that the highlanders system is very good. Has taken me through thick mud 16 inch snow and offroading where most crossovers would not go but never struggled a bit like it did in this review. I have taken it on worse than gold mine obstacles without any issues. So anyways altrac tires, which I will be getting soon, and the highlander will go anywhere the 4 runner does except rock crawling. Which I would not do with any car or truck. Walking is 2-4x faster. Whats the point? Short distance sure but not for miles. Nonsense

The Outlander has a very goid all wheel system. In my last five years havind the Outback and it made me look stupid because of the CVT in it was BAD, forward is fine but noted "please don't try the reverse in up hill back up in sand or mud, it will make you call for help." But the Outlander surprised me that it has no problems at all and its CVT combine all wheel drive system work as traditional auto transmission. It is best time to take advantage of the Mit since they are not selling well and dealers are willing to slash the price and the car is quite realible and safe.

I bought my Mitsubishi from a dealer that sold both Kia and Mitsubishi. There is an orientation that everyone who got the lifetime oil changes had to attend. At one point the maintenance manager let it slip that they'll never see any of the Mitsubishi guys because their cars never break. It's sort of cause a stir amongst the Kia customers and the dealership manager didn't look pleased with the maintenance manager. I still have my old eclipse, all I've done is change the oil every 5000 miles and it is still running like a champ. It's mileage is about 170, 000.

I don't want to ruin the 18 inch street Toyo tires that came with it... On the sad side, the dealership will be replacing my CVT because the software update (during the recall phase) could not remove the shudder or hesitations at some speeds/rpms changes. "Certain awd vehicles do not make up that with out me trying 3 or 4 times." Because on some you take the far left which is hard even for a truck and some you take the far right which almost any suv can get up. The pilot and highlander had to take the far left track, you directly turn both of the cars to the right to go around where you got the pilot stuck.

They actually only called it the Outlander Sport in the U.S. It's called the RVR everywhere else including Canada. Not a great name but it's a throwback to an old model. But they thought a simpler name was better for the U.S. market since no one knows or cares about old Mitsubishis. North Americans couldn't recognize quality engineering even if it came with a 10 year warranty! 😂😂😂

The GT is miles ahead of the v4 in off-road capability because it has an more advanced AWD and higher horsepower. CVT isn't good for off-road.
I chipped my outkander GT and im getting 30 mpg.
The base 4 wheel drive is crap on the Mitsubishi. Get the SEL WITH the AWD upgrade or go with the GT. GT is best because the transmission is 6 speed instead of sucky CVT. I take my GT mudding and off-road in the snow and it champs right through.
Unless you got the AWD option on the SEL you do not have the advanced system youre referring to in this video. Turbo doesn't help you in offroad... Turbo helps you get on the highway.... The V6 would destroy the turbo.

There's your problem. They had to really mess with the electronics after diesel gate to remove the software that cheated the system and then put in one that met regulations. It seems the outlander is an underrated car. I'll admit in some aspects its kinda cheesy especially the stereo is sometimes a buggy PITA. I used to have the 4cyl and realized how much better having the V6 is, a lot more power no CVT and it can tow. I have the V6 GT version and its truly a great car. I picked up some 16" rims and bfg tires its been great. I have never been stuck in my outlander and have gone on roads more questionable than seen in this video. I have the same Outlander, the 2016 version though, AWC as well. The only thing I don't like about it is the handling, on the highway it feels as if it is not stable and off road it does not feel composed. I wish they had worked more on the handling experience so it feels like the Subarus handling...

A lot better, lower rev range and has a regular automatic transmission, more pulling power etc etc. acts more like an old school Montero.

Is there a reason why they sold this, Rather than the Pajero/Montero Sport, and the flagship Pajero/Montero model?
I love the real 4x4 design of the Pajero/Montero, & the Sport version.
And some models come with a V6 diesel or, Gasoline engine in east Asia, Europe, and japan. (I think)

  • @georgegladding8257

I'm getting a 2020 tiguan 4motion. 2 of them. It comes with 7.9 ground clearance with 17 inch rims. I have a 2017 tiguan with 6.9 ground clearance with 16 inch rims. I live in an area that can easily get 2ft of snow in a 48 hour period. The mix of compacted snow and powdery snow. About 4 times the condition i would get would bottom my 2017 tiguan out in the powder and compacted snow. Not by much. Would going for 10inches of ground clearance in my 2020 vw tiguan be safe and how would I go for 10 inches of ground clearance? I am figuring 3.1 inches of more clearance from my 2017 to a lifted 2020 would make all the difference. Would I lift and increase tire size? Or just lift?

    • @georgegladding8257
      @georgegladding8257 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't get why people drive crossovers when they don't need awd or the ground clearance. The only reason I would buy one would be if I lived in a place where I often had to do light offroading but wanted a comfortable car on the road.

Yep, exactly. Have a long distance daily commute, relatives live on a hill with a long track including a creek crossing. You can get there fine in 2WD mostly but conditions change many times a year. A low car will certainly scrape.
