My mother when she came to school functions or would pick me up and she would see him would whisper to me in a hush tone, "Is he the one without a father?" Funny, how times change, now half the class of kids, come from broken homes and it's normal.

I heartily agree with you on this subject, Shaunee - we need to get back to a good and noble root, if you will, in popular music - performers with talent, good songwriters, great production staff; in other words, let's make music the way it should be made - the real way!
The '60s and '70s was the Golden Age for pop ballads, a music form almost unheard of these days. There's Harper Valley PTA, Ode to Bill Joe, Little Willy, The Night Chicago Died, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, Midnight Train to Georgia, and I'll probably remember more as the day wears on.
Yes, these are all great songs - I would add to this list, Tammy Wynette's, "D-I-V-O-R-C-E." When I was divorced, some many years back, I wrote in the "memo" (on my check to my lawyer) "D-I-V-O-R-C-E" (My divorce was a friendly one, thank God). Anyway, it seems my "song-joke" went over his head - he never questioned it in any event. Cheers to all!
I never understood this song as a child but I could still tell that delicious, delicious tea was being spilled all over the place in this story. It's even better now.
Yes, better. My mom loved this song because she was a divorced woman in the south! I and everyone else loved her! PTA across America can suck mine and learn a huge lesson. Not a reference.
ALWAYS loved this song! My early life reflected this song. My momma was (and still is) a firecracker! She never did anything illegal just lived her life the way she wanted! She is my best friend and my role model. Teaching love, honesty, pride and not taking ANYONE'S crap!!! LOVE YOU MOMMA!!!
Impeccable performance and this woman is gorgeous! Ever since I was a small boy hearing her voice singing this song; word for word always made me feel happy 😍❤
I was 11 when this song came out. Back then, I just knew I liked the song. I really didn't get what the song was about. many years later, when I heard it again I was cracking up.
The song doesn’t hold up tbh. Not a classic by a long shot. Not compared to o music from Dolly or Johnny Cash has. Not knocking it but this is no Stevie Wonder so calm your tits lol
Not dissing on the this classic, but that's not one musician. They've either got a backing track or she is lip syncing her song -- something very common on TV and especially back then.
I remember coming home from school and mama putting that song on the record player--yep she surprised us and bought it while we were at school. Those were the good old days.
Yep. Though small towns also have perks the gossip machine is one of the bad things. I live here in Colorado Springs and nobody is ever outside or just wants to chat. New guy moved in about five years ago and I said hi, the idiot told me I don't need friends. I laughed and said, well if I see your house being robbed I will remember that as I don't dial 911. What a twit. At least he had the good sense to close his mouth and look stunned as I turned around and walked away.
I definitely would have to agree!! I love Tom too! I was raised on this brand of country and I still love it! I come to TH-cam at end up watching this good stuff for HOURS
I went to a little country school in rural Georgia in the late 60s and early and they would play this song at every P.T.A function. This song brings back very fond memories of that time in my life.
I was a freshman in highschool when this song broke to the top of the hit parade! Very rare (in 1968) when a country-western hit would commandeer the regular top-40 hit parade charts. We LOVED the song; couldn't hear it enough! Today is 1 January 2022. Still an hilarious comment on hypocrisy after nearly 54 years (great DoBro playing, as well). I wonder if Jeannie C. Riley is still living.
This is pop/country for it's time. Very catchy, great song and well performed. This embodies Country Music Genre more then 95% of what is called "Country" music today. Country had a style and sound all it's own. Not sure why country music is so bad now. There is a wealth of music to emulate. Great tune...Thanks!
This song is a classic song that truly belongs to the beautiful singer Jeannie C. Riley. This song was recorded in 1969, 9 years before I was born in 1978. I love this song! It is fun! Thak you for posting this classic song and performance!
I was in junior high (known as middle school today) in Napa CA when this song was popular on the country charts. A new student from the Midwest lip synced it at our first rally and we were so embarrassed for her since nobody listened to this “square, hick” music. Complete silence when her performance was over. I think back about that girl now and understand what an amazing brave person she had to have been
In high school Down the road a piece Our Government Teacher Was a long haired hippy freak Who Played bass for a Skynyrd tribute band. We use to mess with him cause He used a pick. So my buddy Shropshire, and I Taught him how to pluck, and slap the bass. I guess we were a little more Tolerant in TheV.
We had this song on an 8 track tape. I loved it and Jeanie C Riley was just a doll w those Go Go boots. Good times and great memories from my childhood.
Well, there was a lot of boring ooze put out by commercial music factories back then too. The songs that are still memorable are few by comparison. I agree with you, though, that over-technologization has been really bad for pop music. Even well-written songs have the life sucked out of them by being run through autotune, fitted to the beat grid, and digitally processed to homogeneity. The human presence is the breath of a song, that's what we listen for in great music.

Dude was playing that guitar within an inch of its life, and man, she was smoking hot.
😂😂😂😂😂
yeah he is wicked awsome

I love this performance!!! She’s so pretty and I love how sassy she is!!!!! Music just isn’t the same anymore 😢
I heartily agree with you on this subject, Shaunee - we need to get back to a good and noble root, if you will, in popular music - performers with talent, good songwriters, great production staff; in other words, let's make music the way it should be made - the real way!
for that decade ..she is******beautiful..
Jerry Lowry lol well they did the best they could With what h

Hey how are you doing..?😮
The '60s and '70s was the Golden Age for pop ballads, a music form almost unheard of these days. There's Harper Valley PTA, Ode to Bill Joe, Little Willy, The Night Chicago Died, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, Midnight Train to Georgia, and I'll probably remember more as the day wears on.
How about “The Night They Drove ol’ Dixie Down”?
Yes, these are all great songs - I would add to this list, Tammy Wynette's, "D-I-V-O-R-C-E." When I was divorced, some many years back, I wrote in the "memo" (on my check to my lawyer) "D-I-V-O-R-C-E" (My divorce was a friendly one, thank God). Anyway, it seems my "song-joke" went over his head - he never questioned it in any event. Cheers to all!
The 60’s and 70’s had all the talent.
My mum loved this song
I never understood this song as a child but I could still tell that delicious, delicious tea was being spilled all over the place in this story. It's even better now.
It wasn't tea
Yes, better. My mom loved this song because she was a divorced woman in the south! I and everyone else loved her! PTA across America can suck mine and learn a huge lesson. Not a reference.
ALWAYS loved this song! My early life reflected this song. My momma was (and still is) a firecracker! She never did anything illegal just lived her life the way she wanted! She is my best friend and my role model. Teaching love, honesty, pride and not taking ANYONE'S crap!!! LOVE YOU MOMMA!!!
Diana Smith Good for you!!! [see my response to another lovely child of “ one of us”, above]
Love you Mama!!!! 😍😍😍
Impeccable performance and this woman is gorgeous! Ever since I was a small boy hearing her voice singing this song; word for word always made me feel happy 😍❤
Long straight hair and a mini skirt. Southern accents and big hair and country music ballads. Sure miss it all
I was 11 when this song came out. Back then, I just knew I liked the song. I really didn't get what the song was about. many years later, when I heard it again I was cracking up.
Hello,how are you doing today
This is a live performance and not just lip syncing to the studio version. Much respect for that.
twist. she sang and moved around on film and they played the film b4 a live audience
@@hobbygamer6220 Did not know that!?
This is from a (Teddy and Doyle) Wilburn Brothers show.
Where Has All The Talent GONE !! one Musician with a Guitar And A Fantastic Clear VOICE sum A Classic that Stands the TEST of Time.
Let me rephrase that; who's gonna fill their shoes? Answer, no one. Some try...
The song doesn’t hold up tbh. Not a classic by a long shot. Not compared to o music from Dolly or Johnny Cash has. Not knocking it but this is no Stevie Wonder so calm your tits lol
@@deathbeforedecaf7755 Jeez, what would we do without your 2 cents worth??
Not dissing on the this classic, but that's not one musician. They've either got a backing track or she is lip syncing her song -- something very common on TV and especially back then.
i love jeannie c riley love this classic song it sounds so great in 2024
That dobro player was a badass.makes the whole tune.
This was one of my favorites...As a Black American man I love all types of music

I’ve loved this song since it came out when I was 5. I was so excited to get to meet her many years ago. She was a very sweet lady.
Hello,how are you doing..?
I remember coming home from school and mama putting that song on the record player--yep she surprised us and bought it while we were at school. Those were the good old days.
Truth Indeed AMEN
A GREAT SONG BY A GREAT SINGER AND SONG WRITER TOM T. HALL. R.I.P.
One of the prettiest ladies of country music. I have always liked this song.
Hello friend, how are you doing today???

Jeannie C Riley is a legend for delivering real messages!
Classic song, delivered with style, and that perfect voice, excellent pickers. Thank you, Tom T. Hall and Jeannie C. Riley.
My Uncle Harold Morrison on the slide, RIP.
Tom T. Hall and Jeannie C. Riley were good musician. How you Marilyn E. Jess.
@@WolfgangR5150 Damn, he could play the heck out of that slide..but his sports coat is on FIRE!
This accurately describes life in a small town. No matter how old it gets. It's spot on.
There is a song that comes to mind.
" Harper Valley PTA ".
That would have been a good background song to hear. Don'tcha thonk. ❤
one of my all time favorite songs! The guitarist is AMAZING
That's my uncle Harold Morrison, may he rest in peace.
Michael McQuerter that is ciol!! he's AMAZING

I love it more now than i did in the 60,s
Worse gang of hyprocrits today. No shame for the MAGA cultist and their ORANGE little dick leader.
Beautiful song sung by a BEAUTIFUL lady. She STILL looks STUNNING at 79!!!!
Still alive, and living in Texas (according to wikipedia).
Never realized but found out she lives in small town Texas about 20 minutes away
I absolutely love this song
Ditto! Loved this song for decades!
Heard of Jason Aldean?
She was my baby sitter.
@@nobodysbaby5048 No...heard any good country music worth talking about since after 1980?
@@Ireland831 This was from the 60s. But check out Jason Aldean.
This song is a classic song that truly belongs to the beautiful singer Jeannie C. Riley. This song was recorded in 1969, 9 years before I was born in 1978. I love this song! It is fun! Thak you for posting this classic song and performance!
agree with you, cnt stop my self from listening to this wonderful piece of work when ever I’m alone. Which of her songs is your favorite?
I was in junior high (known as middle school today) in Napa CA when this song was popular on the country charts. A new student from the Midwest lip synced it at our first rally and we were so embarrassed for her since nobody listened to this “square, hick” music. Complete silence when her performance was over. I think back about that girl now and understand what an amazing brave person she had to have been

Man I wish music was as good today as it was in the 60's/70's
And before.
79tazman then make your own! Lol
This song is so true about the life especially back in the 60's.
What a great song, brilliant lyrics, simple but clever at the same time, love the line "you're all Harper valley hypocrites."
