    In this weeks episode, we meet a family who are mastering the art of tiny house living. Originally Brad and Ruby were planning on moving into the tiny house with just their 9 year old son, however plans quickly changed when they discovered they were pregnant with another child!
    Their home was constructed as a shell, and the interior was done as a DIY project by the couple who had previously only had very little building experience. Brad's experience as a designer is evident with the clever utilisation of the space and the way that the tiny house has been set up and designed for family living.
    We hope you enjoy the tour of this wonderful home and charming family!

  • @queerweare

    I usually won't comment on a home I'm not fond of but this one has me scratching my head. The two things that jumped out at me most were the living room, which was almost nonexistent, and the catwalk. My neck would start hurting fast watching TV sideways and the living room will get small fast when the 4 want to be together watching TV or playing games. They didn't say how long they plan to live there but it seemed it was the place they'll settle. Their son will be a teenager in 4 years. He'll be tired of having to go into his parents bedroom and crawl across the floor way before then
    That all being said, they were a charming couple and it's great seeing such a loving family.

    • @brad2064
      @brad2064 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      At one point he said the babies room was going to be a man cave, that and the age gap with the kids suggests number 2 was not planned, so they probably had to adapt on the fly. Space would work much better with 3 in the family.

      totally agree

    • @sarahdee374
      @sarahdee374 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I'd mount the TV on a swivel mount so it could be viewed straight on. My concern with the catwalk would be for egress
      during a fire or other emergency. Maybe install an egress window in the kids bedroom??

    • @RoxanneLavender
      @RoxanneLavender 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They could make adjustments and changes to it, there's an opening area on the other side of the boy's bedroom, where a ladder could be used to get into the room instead of the catwalk. But, another commenter said that when the 9yr old gets tired of having to crawl the catwalk or whatever, he can switch with the younger child, so in 4 years he'll be a teen, his younger brother will be 5 and a half years old, so the younger brother can do the fun catwalk crawl and that can be his room, and the older one can have the downstairs room, which seems to be a similar size to the upstairs. But yeah, the 'living room' is more like a cubby hole or something, they could fit the fridge where the cooker is, have 1 worktop space, then the cooker, 1 worktop space, then the sink, divider, then cut off the extra kitchen worktop space to make the living room a little bigger. Add flat, thick opaque blinds instead of curtains over the doors, and project onto that instead of tv, doing that could potentially also create space for stairs into their son's room, for when they are both too old for the catwalk. The great thing about tiny houses is that they can be changed easier and cheaper than brick houses.

    • @tawesssoabbox
      @tawesssoabbox 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They did say they are in the market for a new more regular home but "in no rush". But i am sure they are thinking forward as the kids grows older.

  • @-greentoad
    @-greentoad 2 ปีที่แล้ว +112

    I can't imagine having to crawl to your sons room each time you need to go in there for something. Crazy. I wouldn't want my baby downstairs in the night and I'm up. A few things were ok in this house but most I didn't care for. I guess that's why it's good we are all different.

    • @dp2404
      @dp2404 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hopefully they can add a second section as the kids grow. I didn't like the layout either, for the same reasons. And that TV at 40 cm from your face... nonononono

    • @mareezy
      @mareezy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They said it's temporary. Yeah, would get old to keep crawling. They should add another container and double the space of their house. That would be a great idea

      Sometimes tiny house living isn't all that glamourous...it's simply what they afford...this family would be better off on rent in a normal house...rather than living in mums backyard and crawling all over! 🤦

    I'd put that couch on wheels so it could be rotated to face the tv when it's show time, then rotated back without undue aneurismic herniation. *Locking casters will ensure stability, and could cover the wheel so no little fingers or toes (or big ones) end up getting jammed in it causing apoplexy.

      I totally agree with you. We’re building our tiny home for a family of 4, the kids being just 3 and 1 year olds. I have designed it be used until kids become adults. I don’t have height constraints, as it is fixed on my own land. So I could go 2 floors and one mini loft. But within that I managed to fit in a big kitchen, lengthy dining room, lounge area, two bedrooms and two bathrooms, each connected to a mini changing room. :) Took me 2 years to design it. I still am making adjustments while we’re doing construction. But I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be awesome and the kids would love it.

      Given the factor of children, I’d be interested to see how people have had to adapt their tiny home as they got older. Did they keep on living in their tiny home, expand it somehow or something else? I feel understanding how people outgrew their tiny house, would be an interesting episode - I don’t think it invalidates the tiny house, but highlights challenges to think about.

    This is definitely not my favourite one so far. Everything just looks so cramp, especially the living room. The TV seems very out of place. The brother crawling to his own bedroom doesn’t seem functional in the long run. Maybe he should switch the room with the younger one? Or maybe they should switch to a bigger tiny house? Just my suggestion.

    Lovely family. Adorable children. That said, this tiny house made me feel claustrophobic. I couldn’t live in any space where I have to crawl a very narrow hallway to get from one room to another, even if the hallway is short in length/distance. I’d like more of a living room space as well. The kitchen is lovely though. Bathroom was also decent.

    Huge journey this family have been on through some intensity... well done to them.
    It's huge on the outside but sadly there is so much wasted space and not much style.... hopefully some improvements can be made

    I couldn't sit and watch a TV like that. I can just feel the neck cramps watching this. I'm surprised they didn't put it on one of those arms that lets you move it about.
