Thank you for sharing this video. My 2 year old washer wouldn’t turn on. We tried everything but it still wasn’t working. My hubby and I fixed the issue by cutting a piece of metal duct tape and placing it on the back of the start button to improve the conductivity between the start button and the spring; and now it works like brand new. You saved us $, time, and stress.
I have the Turbo Wash model. No button, just a cone shape spring. Small piece of aluminum foil & two-sided tape. Work like a charm. 3 screws on rear. Back cover being off. Remove U-shape plastic trim by releasing plastic tab locks on R side of circuit board, push tab forward. Once you have the two tabs on R side released and pushed forward. From front of washer use SMALL screwdriver to pry plastic trim from front control panel. Being careful not to break any of the 4 tabs. There are 2 more screws under trim to remove. Now remove the dial from panel by pulling VERY hard. Wiggle control panel loose and lay on its face. Remove 1 screw from tin cover around circuit board, and pry the 4 tin tabs loose. Wiggle tin cover loose and remove. Just 5 or 6 plastic tabs to release on circuit board frame and it’s free. Take notice the spring type button doesn’t line up centered to push to start circuit. Making sure your aluminum foil is wide enough. Good luck and don’t break any plastic tabs.😊
This just saved me $400. My model had springs behind the panel, so I was able to use the tape version of the fabric mentioned here. For the machines with spring buttons: I placed three strips of the tape on the back of the plastic panel so the spring touches the new tape. That completed the circuit to function the button. Conductive tape bought on Amazon: Lectrify 5mm x 20M (0.2in x 65ft) Conductive Nylon Conductive Adhesive Tape
Just came here to comment since this is the only video related to this anywhere. I had to put a small piece of foil between the spring and TouchPad...works like day 1 again. Thanks for the informative video!
Can you explain how you attached the foil to the spring? And like, did you use a small ball of it, a flat square, etc? I've got the springs (not foam) and I'd like to try this, but I'm not sure how to use the foil like you did.
@@elizabethleee I didn't do anything fancy at all. Just cut a small piece of aluminum foil to place on the spot where the spring sits. I carefully reattached the control panel making sure the spring touched the foil. Gave it a test by turning it on and off, then reassembled
You are a genius! Thank you for figuring this out and saving me from purchasing another unreliable washer. Seems two years is about the average for this button issue to crop up. Ours is about 2 years old also. This is only the video that provided me with the actual solution. We ruled out the noise filter before trying your solution, and then success!
I think back on the issue with this washer occasionally and sharing this in case it helps someone. When this first occurred, the issue with the buttons coincided with a very close lightning strike. I think the problem began the following day or so. A possible power surge? I was washing clothes and a lightning strike occurred, can't completely recall if the power flickered but vaguely feel like it did. From that point on I had issues with the button. Reset and unplug worked a couple weeks or seemed like it did, until nothing worked. I have had a surge protector on the outlet where this washer is plugged in since we repaired it. Not sure if it is helping but have the added protection just in case. So far, so good. 🤞
Worked like a charm. I used regular aluminum foil for a new button to replace the foam buttons of the Power and Start/Stop button. I cut a rectangular piece of aluminum foil, about 7in by 4in. Folded it hot dog style, where the folds were about 1cm in width. So now you have a thicker piece of aluminum foil about 1cm x 7in. Either roll or fold that to get enough thickness to make a snug fit into the button slot, cut off excess aluminum foil. One was a little loose in the button slot, so I cut a real narrow piece of painters tape and wrapped that around the outside, careful to not obstruct the butt-ends where the conductors meet. That made it easy so they fit snug into the button slots, so it didn't require any adhesive. I coupled this video with "Online Appliance Tech"' video for disassembly of LG washer to get to the electronics. Thanks for the video, YouGoogle!!
This is a good video. It's the ONLY one that addresses the real problem with these machines. Also applies to other lg and whirlpool machines. I fixed my WT7300 by carefully removing the foam pad with a small plastic pick, and moved one of the other pads from a function that I never use, to the on/off switch. Good job. Thank you.
Mike, thanks for the corroboration that the fix works. I hadn't thought about swapping the foam from one of the other buttons! But this is definitely the problem with these!
I followed your example and moved my delay wash pad to my start button position. The piezoelectric fabric was discolored and appeared to be a light blue battery corroded color. I tried to reuse it at first with new foam and repositioning the fabric on a difference side, but It just wouldn't work. With the money I saved I'm upgrading my Kitchaid mixer. Husband's happy, kids have clean clothes so it's a win for me, lol!
I took your awesome video and applied Mike’s idea on using one of the switches we never used. A little effort and we have a working machine. Had the repair person out today and said we needed a new control board so they ordered it under our extended warranty. I had forgotten I had fallen for that when we bought it in 2019. I will now have a spare to keep replacing the sponges. Your video saved me $1800.00 as I was going to get a Speed Queen TR7 to replace the LG. Due to supply chain, there are few of them around the area so I will keep replacing sponges. Thanks so much YouGoogle!!!!!!
You are amazing for posting this! Between your video and Mike’s suggestion of taking a pad from another function gave me the confidence I needed to take this apart and it saved me hundreds! I was having trouble even getting anyone to come out to my house to look at it. I’m replacing my LG set when I move and I don’t want throw money at my machine which is also only about two years old. Thank you, thank you!!!
Thank you for the tip. Our machine has springs in place of the foam that yours has. I tried stretching out the spring a little in hopes it would make a better connection but didn't help. I folded up a couple strips of tin foil and wrapped over the spring. Worked awesome. Button is very sensitive and works great. Saved us $200!
Great! Good job! Thanks for letting us know. But did you put the foil on the button side or the circuit board side? How did you get the foil to stay in place when you reassembled the unit?
Engineers got nothing on you, man, you're brilliant! I think the switch is piezoelectric, but the fabric is probably carbon fiber tape, which is conductive should you need to replace it. Really brilliant, thanks! I'm just looking for videos on how to replace the control panel board, but everything helps!
This helped me big time. Our model is maybe a 2013/14, but looks the same. I took off the back and while i didnt have the foam between the buttons, our button somehow wore down enough it would not hit the switch behind it anymore. We added a dab of hot glue to the back of the button, let it dry, and put it back together. Works every time now. Thanks for this video. I might make my own if i can find the time.
Good info! Thanks for letting us know! Glad you got yours figured out! I didn't put any glue to hold the foam in mine, I was worried it would NOT connect after that. Better to test each type pretty good before reassembling I guess!
Thanks! Same for me ! Add a little plastic piece to give more strength to foil/foam button. Problem solved in less than an hour ! You saved me hundreds of dollars! Thanks again!!!
Thanks for confirming. That’s what I was thinking, too. The mistake we made was that we pressed the start button to hard, because the washer wouldn’t turn on at times. We were wondering why it had this problem because back in Seoul we never had an issue with the washer. LG came and found out the machine wasn’t leveled properly when installed by Sears. He said that if not leveled correctly it won’t turn on. Since then we had no issues, but again we pressed the button to hard and the start button stopped working. Others say to replace the expensive parts but my guesses are the foam got squished. We’ll let you know. Thanks so much for posting.
Great video, already replaced the board a couple years ago but now same problem. I tried swapping buttons but didn’t work, the rolled up foil button did. Just matched it size wise to the old foam button.
So I’m trying to get mine apart like yours. I took out the 5 screws on the back and I can get it to pull up a little but I can’t get it the whole way off. Any tips?
Tons of pointers in this comment thread. But it basically has plastic snaps all around that you will probably have to put a flat head in. They will break. Good luck!
There are so many well-meaning bits of advice about this LG non-starting problem. What is missing is any help or admission of guilt on the part of LG. These machines are seriously flawed and LG is of no help. There should be a class action lawsuit about this issue. That being said, when my machine does decide to turn on, it does a fine job.
Thank you so much for this! I popped off the front display as opposed to opening it up. Then removed the foam squares and put aluminum foil in place of foam. Closed it up with double sided mounting tape and voila! My buttons are work again! Thank you thank you thank you!
Thank you! This saves me tons! I ended up putting foil tape on the edges of the foam buttons and also taped on the inside of the display board to help close the gap. Thanks!
Thank you! Exact same thing going on with my washer. I yanked the back off. I could actually see the button so I just squeezed it together and started right up. Dumb button! I did the unplug restart thing for a month and then that quit working too.
Eventually LG replaced the foam buttons with little spring buttons, yet I still had this problem around the two year mark. Found a fix in comments on another video - a small piece of aluminum foil at the back of the touch button panel to make contact with the spring. Worked for me.
At this point I think the concensus is to just compress some aluminum foil into a small cube that replaces the foam/fabric altogether. I have had my machine apart more than I care to admit, but the last thing I did was the foil square the size of the foam, and it is the best solution I believe.
I have watched nearly all videos regarding no power. I have pulled the top panel apart, everything looks perfect. I tried the foil, didnt work. I tried another power socket, nothing? I even tried the button while apart but sadly nothing has worked? Im worried if i spend $200 on a new motherboard that it still may not work? Any other suggestions? Frustrating..
You may be the exception. It could be the motherboard, it just never has been for any of us. Watch the video again very carefully. You'll figure it out!
I keep lots of random foam from packing in boxes etc. I do not know what type of foam it was. It only last less than a year anyway. I would probably look here for comments from those who used springs. There is likely a spring part replacement available, but I'm not sure.
i’m having this same issue. i removed the top part of the washer but the control board is in the way of the buttons, how were you able to separate the control board from the top of the washer?
Yes, it should snap out of there, but you will break some of the plastic. This question has many answers in the comments. Basically just break it out but then use a couple small screws in the unused holes to hold it together when you are done.
I would go with one of the foil solutions. Just take aluminum foil and roll up some and hammer it down to a solid chunk that fits in the square of the button. That won't compress anymore like foam will (again). There are a few descriptions of the aluminum foil solution in these comments. You'll get it!
Good job! By the looks of it EVERY tech should have gotten a service bulletin telling them how to fix it by now! I guess the tech's never look at TH-cam for everything like the rest of us!
Well, there are probably three or four or more fixes in this comment thread. I ended up having to fix it again, but I used a bit of aluminum foil and hammered it into the same shape as the foam should have been and that solved the problem.
Best video for the power button not working. The type of glue makes a difference. Thanks for making it. I used the wrong glue and it got too hard. For sure that foam got pinched, needs to be reengineered.
This is amazing mine started working because of this. My power switch was like corroded like the strip was blue so the copper oxidized. I switched it with delay wash button as I never use that setting and it works great now
This was great! I noticed on mine that the foam button looked burned out, whereas all the other buttons look new. Also, on the panel where this burned out button is, there are some black marks as if a spark or something happened. I think I need to replace the "piezo tape" that wraps around the foam. Any tips on where to go from here?
I tried the below methods, but nothing worked. I only have the springs sticking up and I learned later that the spring doesn't fit ring in the center of the start button. It lines up in the center of the square part of the circle of the start button. So, I looked in my parts bin and I found a 3/8 inch wide by 1 inch piece of metal and use double sided tape and installed it in the square part to the center of the circle and it now turns on. One may have to stretch the springs a little for the on button and the start button like I did.
I have watched every yt video nd read every comment. So far nothing has worked yet? So inconvenient and frustrating? I havent given up yet? Glad everyone else is winning. Send a prayer, thanks
Had the very same issue today. Glad I watched your video...in addition to the LG rusting out at the bleach cup and having to fight LG to get that replaced, the power button also went out. I learned a new obstacle with LG. Make sure your serial number sticker ( which LG strategically places on the side of the machine where, as you might expect, occasionally rubs against things) is protected from wear because get this...if even ONE character is scratched away, that voids their warranty. @#%&!. But...going back to this video...great job! After I got the control panel open, I saw another cluster of the tape covered foam squares. I looked at the front face of the control panel to see what functions they served and to see if I could swap one of those. One of the functions on the control panel is remove wifi start which I'll never use so I just swapped that one for the power button spot. I also added a drop of model glue. I let it set up and tested it several times for proper connectivity and the glue didn't interfere with it so, I popped this thing back together in a few minutes and BAM...back in business.
Just a heads up on what I do. I create folders on my phone for model and serial numbers. I just take a pic of the tag then I create a folder with that name(washer, dryer, lawnmower, car VIN, vacuum, chainsaw etc). That way you don't have to run to the basement and search for the tag or run out to the garage to look at what kind of air filter you need for the mower. I also take pics of all parts that are replaced semi frequently like belts for my vacuum or belts for my air compressor. If you do it while you are fixing it it makes life a lot easier.
Great video! Mine is a WT7305 sold 5/27/2021 with the improved springs in place of the foam but the same issue. Waiting for the warranty repair company to come back for the third time. How did you get the bottom of the control board and user interface and the knob off? I don't want to break the clips as they are both new :)
You can’t help but sort of crack it up a little bit. You just have to give the knob a good yank. And then the plastic clips that hold the board in you just have to stick a little flat head screwdriver in there and pray that thing open. You will end up messing up some of them I guarantee it! But you’ve got to do what you Gotta do. If your warranty guy is coming just let him be responsible for that!
Update on us. It works perfectly again. We leveled ours and it is working at the lightest touch like new. Installation was done incorrectly. Before you call someone do the ThinQ as we did. It helps to diagnose problems. You for sure know it’s not the expensive parts, which the people who looked at it wanted to replace.!!!!!!
Just has a repairman here. LG WT7305CW. He says LG has a newer front display panel (the part you actually touch to operate the buttons). It's thinner, so will contact the foam better.
Same problem with a less than 2 year old dryer that is the companion to this washer. Word spread to LG repairmen b/c he knew the moment he walked into my house what the problem was. Use the wifi option in case it breaks again you can bypass using the panel
Thanks! I'm glad they finally know what the problem is. I figured it out two years ago. They must have watched my video! Don't pay a repairman, it's not that hard! But mine doesn't have WIFI.
@@SkipWhatAboutTonight mine was under warranty so the fix is free. Repairman said it was definitely poor engineering. They developed a replacement part for this reason. He said the other issue is that sometimes the “touch” feature doesn’t work b/c hands are too cold. Press it often enough the foam will always expand.
Mine just came out of warranty and did the same thing! Screw those clips for the front! Never would buy an LG again. This is my 3rd problem with all of my LG products. My Samsung ones in my last house never had an issue for over 2 years.
The replacement foam that I put in for this video has now failed. I took a small piece of aluminum foil and hammered it down to almost cubical the same size as the foam and inserted it in place of the foam this time. It's working again for the time being!
Thank you for sharing, foam failure , no power, LG needs to have a class action lawsuit so I can get my 10 dollars, but maybe that will stop them from making $hit.
Very carefully! haha, it will be stipped, cracked and broken when you are done. But if I recall you can use some small screws to hold it together after you have destroyed the snaps!
Just got it off....lost 2 tabs but oh well. It was indeed the touch screen button...the spring type. I glued some foil on the back of the button face for power and start works again.
I used a fairly firm foam. I keep small pieces of foam on my workbench and found something on the firm side compared to what was used in the manufacturing. The original foam was very flimsy and my choice to replace was fairly firm, more like the bottom of soft running shoes actually!
@@davidbabcock5955 Hi David, Thank you so much for responding back to answer my question. It’s been 2 years since this past August that I had bought this LG washer & dryer so they are still fairly new. I’ve been experiencing this issue for about a year now. It’s been reoccurring but not often. I did pay for the extended warranty when I purchased them but of course when I need to utilize it it’s expired. Don’t have the money that a repairman would charge to figure out the problem then fix it. Your video that you posted on TH-cam was the information I definitely needed in order to save time & money on fixing the problem. Just wanted to say thank you again so much!
Thank you for making this video. Repair guy wanted to replace the control panel for $490 then I remembered this video and decided to give it a try. BINGO!
Is it easy to take the control panel off? With our machine the power button has gone out on us less than a year into ownership. We are not happy at all. But this seems like an easy fix. Going to give this a try.
There is a metal back plate, then the circuit board just clips into the white plastic housing. It is a bit difficult to get the CB and the white housing apart, my service tech botched mine up so bad but it still clips back together. Even botched up it just snapped in. You may have to wrestle with it a bit and you will likely damage the plastic a bit. But be careful not to damage the board. I think there are about 6 places that hold it together so if you damage a few it will still snap back together. If you damage all of the plastic snaps there should be a few places where you could add a few screws. Mine had screw holes that were not used since it could snap in.
@@SkipWhatAboutTonight So the repairman came and ordered a new control panel and display board for our washing machine. When we unwrapped it a service bulletin fell out explaining to the tech what to do (so this is obviously a common issue that LG is aware of). Interestingly enough, it appears that they have updated the button mechanism, there is no foam to be found it looks as if it is now a spring instead. So, I am happy to see that there is no foam to get crushed or break down, however the display panel doesn't have much flex so it is going to be interesting to see the how it will work when the repairman swaps everything out. I will update you with the results tomorrow. BTW the service bulletin advises not to change the display panel unless necessary, but we will leave that up to the repairman. The panel has a part number of: AGL76194027 PCB Complex: EBR86498808 We have the top loader with the agitator: WT7305CV
@@jakekeiser7087 That's the first thing our repairman tried too. Default to expensive but easy repair. Unless that board has the foam or springs with it most likely you'll have the same problem is my guess. It's those buttons, not the board. Springs should probably just be stretched out a bit just like what new foam does! Let me know!
@@SkipWhatAboutTonight Sorry forgot to update as life got busy. When the second repairman came to put the new parts on he explained that the issue involves the display panel letting in too much light and therefore not activating the button since it couldn't "sense" the finger as it was letting in too much light. I have no idea what he was talking about. He replaced both the display panel and the control board and the machine works fine for now. Something definitely changed though as our machine just doesn't sound the same anymore, it's much louder on the final drain and spin. There were no foam pieces on the old control board or the new one, I honestly don't understand how it works since the display has practically no flex to it.
I'm just a regular guy. I don't fix other peoples machines. Sorry! But if you follow these instructions you will do better than any of the repairmen all of us here have had try!
Thanks for this. Mine has the updated spring. The "button" on the board is not making electrical contact with the spring that activates the on/off switch. Lengthening the spring made no difference. I drilled a hole through the button in the external face board so I can turn it on by touching the spring with a screwdriver inserted through the hole. Will try ordering a new external face board is $30 directly from LG.
couldn't you just drill large holes in the top cover where the buttons are, on the washer/dryer, so that you could just use your finger to touch the actual button on the motherboard?
Well, you could. But realize you are dealing with electricity-not much. The button is down inside a box, and only a very small finger could reach it, or maybe your pinkie finger twisted just so. The fix of just adding a small hammered cube of aluminum foil to replace the flattened foam is much easier, and the machine will not appear to be damaged.
yeah I was thinking once you cut away the top cover panel, you could make some kind of an actual tactile "button" to replace or connect with the felt/tape box that goes inside the button enclosure that's on the board. FYI, back in fall 2020, CostCo gave us 2-years warranty, plus another 2-years if you purchase using the Costco credit card from Citibank. Trying to get a local quote on this repair right now which may get us a whole new washer if we can get it wrapped up in the next month before the 4th year expires... but I know as soon as we fix the washer situation, the dryer button will go bad next.
@@Schweigardt I wouldn't do the cutting and reinventing. Too much trouble there. Just open the thing up. Take a small bit of aluminum foil and hammer it into a hard cube the size of the button plastic square opening, set it into the square. Replace the cover. Done. It will never compress like the foam did. I did the new foam etc the first time (obviously, see this video!), but had to do it again a year later. I'm keeping the aluminum foil as the best idea. I've got the matching dryer. Doesn't have the problem, yet. I'm about five years in on these I think.
just wanted to mention if you don't want to use the foam pad with the strip all I did was folded sections of aluminum foil in layers and glued them on top of each other, and then on the control panel side has super glued a couple more layers of aluminum foil together until I got the right thickness to where they were touch each other when you push on the control panel. Works perfectly.
My washing machine is starting to do this too. It is less than 2 years old. After 8 months I had the bottom hose start leaking. I called LG and went back and forth as they accuse me of customer neglect. How it could be neglect when it was from the hose rubbing back and forth with the friction causing the hole to form. I ended up just fixing it myself even though it was under warranty. Now the start button is acting up too. I will never ever buy or recommend an LG product again.
How do I remove the touch panel from the display board? I mean to replace the foam. I’ve taken the outside panel off and the silver cover in the back it’s just propping it open. I don’t want to break it
Mine was just snapped in. You may have to wrestle with it a bit and you will likely damage the plastic a bit. But be careful not to damage the board. I think there are about 6 places that hold it together so if you damage a few it will still snap back together. You should see mine! It was damaged bad by the service guy who never figured out the problem! I think in the end if you damage all of the plastic snaps there should be a few places where you could add a few screws. Mine had screw holes that were not used since it could snap in.
Ty we finally taken both out and saw ours is not foam buttons but has springs on all the buttons. We can push it to start without the outside display cover but with it on it won’t start.
Make sure the little black pad is on the inside of the cover. And then stretch the springs just a little bit and put it back together. That’s my best guess.
I used the toothpick solution for my foam pad squish problem. Thank you. You could make the video better by showing disassembly of the control panel covers.
Whatever works! Haha, even if it's just a temporary fix. But, yeah, you can't add to existing videos on TH-cam. Someone probably has it online somewhere. Seems like you figured it out tho! Pretty much just a couple screws and a snappy thing or two for anyone who needs instructions!
Can't remember offhand. It's probably somewhere here in the comments. Swapping the foam from another button, or getting harder foam with metalic cloth, or adding a spring, or just putting smashed aluminum foil in there!
We are experiencing the same problem and want to try your suggestions but we are not able to remove the back panel. There only seems to be 3 screws which we removed but can’t get it to come off. Any advice?
So that panel has a housing on the back. It has a few screws. I believe that it just snaps in there. So you have to really just sort of stick some thing like a sharp screwdriver in there and pop it out and apart. Just look around and make sure there aren’t more screws that you didn’t get to. It seems like that’s always an unknown. But that is not going to be damaged most likely by just popping it apart. The control panel itself is snapped into some plastic parts and that is going to be difficult to get a part and you probably will end up damaging those pieces. It’s just how it is. But there are some extra screw holes that are used in the beginning that will come in handy if you break all the snaps. You can use some other kind of screws to hold that panel on. Hope that helps!
I did not save the info from the order. But if you search "metalized conductive fabric" you will find some. Here is one that will most likely work. www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/adafruit-industries-llc/1168/5356770?Essen%20Deinki&Shopping_DK%2BSupplier_Other&Essen%20Deinki&gclid=CjwKCAiAprGRBhBgEiwANJEY7OewOk_3A3IIi4Pki-2ZNk8NpZKAgXIa5XpATg7arBxtG78XrYDvQxoC7NwQAvD_BwE
He is right you are gonna tear them tabs up pretty bad but there’s a few screws to hold it all back together. I have had mine apart several times self diagnosing which is sad for a less than two year old appliance 😢 Also it seems Lg created many holes for screws they didn’t install. Samsung shouldn’t make microwaves and Lg should improve their washing machine button system.
Just wanted to give an update on our LG top load. The foam is NOT squished. Everyone who is deeply concerned in fixing this problem should listen!!!!!! Get a water scale and LEVEL your washer correctly. On the bottom are extra feet to help with that. Adjust them according to the leveling device you use. Once leveled the start button should work fine. DONT waist your money and listen to people who replace parts, and tell you this is a common issue with LG washers. Don’t throw out your machine, get it done by yourself!!!!! That’s about the only thing to do once in a while. We have no issues.
OK, everyone new, try this first! But all of us with the squished foam know that is definitely a problem. If there's no contact anymore, there's no electricity!
Haha thanks! Well that serviceman had been at my house 5 or 6 times and nothing was getting fixed! My wife was about to go order a new machine and I was like, No way am I buying another new one already!😅
Mine is not very old. Instead of foam, they have Springs now! I can touch the springs and everything works fine. I put it back together and it doesn't recognize my touch! Can the membrane on the cover go bad?
I don't know for sure. I don't think so because it is a non-moving part. It's just a metallic plastic I think. My guess would be to CAREFULLY stretch the spring just about 5 or 10% in length. Someone else in this comment section said something about springs so look through the comments for their info.
Got the top off, couldn’t get the computer board out. So I put it back together and cut out the on/off circle on the front panel. Now I push on the spring and it works!
It should not tear in two if the metalized fabric is still wrapped around the foam. It's pretty robust. It may have some sort of tacky adhesive to hold it in place, but I couldn't even see anything in there. I DID NOT PUT ANY ADDITIONAL GLUE when I put it back together. And I did not clean out any of the material that was there if there was any. I just set it in place and carefully lowered the cover back on and snapped it together.
Look at these comments. I saw someone recently telling how to do that. Once you get the entire panel off I think the white part just snaps out of the faceplate.
So what I did was use one of the foam buttons from another button that is never used. Which for us was the child lock out button, On the bottom right. I pulled it out in one piece and the bottom of the foam was still sticky. So I placed it right on top of existing button. It stuck so I tested it few times and it worked fine. Then I put the front cover back on and tested it again. And again it worked fine. I buttoned the rest up and I was done. So far so good.
If you are not going to work on it yourself then BE SURE to show the technician this video. Hopefully you get warranty work but they are still just going to send someone to work on it and even the service guy didn't know this.
Oh great! Hey everyone, pay attention here. Here is probably the next problem we will all have. Sorry but I don't have an answer. But if you can figure it out please let us all know! See if there is a "lock' part that is replaceable. Try that BEFORE you replace the motherboard. It's almost never the motherboard.
Why not? Look for the comments below about doing that. You WILL break some plastic tabs, but a small screw in the unused holes will hold it together when you put it back together! You got this!
Fantastic! A great solution!
Wow, great job! Full instructions! I have quite a few brokenplastic tabs on mine!
amazing instructions got it done in less than 30 mins thank you🫱🏾🫲🏽
This just saved me $400.
Wow! Great! Thanks for giving back those details on the tape! Glad it worked
Just came here to comment since this is the only video related to this anywhere. I had to put a small piece of foil between the spring and TouchPad...works like day 1 again. Thanks for the informative video!
Great! I appreciate you letting us know! Everything helps us keep these crazy machines going!
@@travisgonzales4432 Thank you so much for your quick reply ❤️
Is it still doing fine today. So I can try this. Mine washer just started doing this.
Glad I could help!
Great! Good solution. Come back and tell us if it holds up longterm!
@@nukya I'm glad you got something figured out! What are you baking me with that Kitchenaid? 😂
@@SkipWhatAboutTonight Haha! I owe you cake!
Thank you I’m glad I could be helpful! It was tough figuring it out but I’m glad I can help.
Thanks for that!
Do you remember how the knob came off? I have mine apart but can’t get the knob off to pull the motherboard away from the front touch screen
I already bought the hole control panel in EBay but didn’t came with any electronic behind it and I just saw your video and make sense thank you
Thanks for the comment. Good luck!
You can also use metal ducting tape as the button needs a conductive surface. Thanks for a great video.
That's a great idea!
This was the only video I could find which covered the piezoelectric switch. I only need to fluff up the pad a bit and we were up and running. Thanks.
Yep! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks! Same for me ! Add a little plastic piece to give more strength to foil/foam button. Problem solved in less than an hour ! You saved me hundreds of dollars! Thanks again!!!
Love to help!
Fantastic. Same issue with our 2022 model. Worked like a charm. Grateful electrician here.
Glad we could help!
Great video, already replaced the board a couple years ago but now same problem.
I tried swapping buttons but didn’t work, the rolled up foil button did. Just matched it size wise to the old foam button.
Yep, my second round after the foam failed again I did the foil and it's still working.
Good luck!
Thank you so much!! This is a real fix! You ain't lying... it's a piece of junk. You pay a fair amount of money and it goes out in 2 years! Crazy
Glad it helped!
What are you using what kind of material you using my work with touch
There are so many well-meaning bits of advice about this LG non-starting problem. What is missing is any help or admission of guilt on the part of LG. These machines are seriously flawed and LG is of no help. There should be a class action lawsuit about this issue. That being said, when my machine does decide to turn on, it does a fine job.
Agreed. My wife and I will volunteer to be the lead plaintiffs. Any attorneys out there ready to go?
Thank you so much for this! I popped off the front display as opposed to opening it up. Then removed the foam squares and put aluminum foil in place of foam. Closed it up with double sided mounting tape and voila! My buttons are work again! Thank you thank you thank you!
Glad it helped!
You're welcome! I'm glad you can have clean clothes!😄
Eventually LG replaced the foam buttons with little spring buttons, yet I still had this problem around the two year mark. Found a fix in comments on another video - a small piece of aluminum foil at the back of the touch button panel to make contact with the spring. Worked for me.
What is the name of the fabric and where do you get that? Thank you for the video
At this point I think the concensus is to just compress some aluminum foil into a small cube that replaces the foam/fabric altogether. I have had my machine apart more than I care to admit, but the last thing I did was the foil square the size of the foam, and it is the best solution I believe.
OK. Thank you. I'm going to take the cube from one of the functions we have never used.
Thank you for this video! What kind of foam did you use?
I keep lots of random foam from packing in boxes etc. I do not know what type of foam it was. It only last less than a year anyway. I would probably look here for comments from those who used springs. There is likely a spring part replacement available, but I'm not sure.
i’m having this same issue. i removed the top part of the washer but the control board is in the way of the buttons, how were you able to separate the control board from the top of the washer?
Yes, it should snap out of there, but you will break some of the plastic. This question has many answers in the comments. Basically just break it out but then use a couple small screws in the unused holes to hold it together when you are done.
@@SkipWhatAboutTonight finally got it this morning, definitely had to break some of the little plastic snaps. oops, lol. but it works!!
Great Info! These ideas really work. I made $500 bucks today. Headed to the gun shop to spend the $ I saved.
I have this problem! Thank you for sharing! You saved me $300 ! Where do you get that little piece of fabric?
I would go with one of the foil solutions. Just take aluminum foil and roll up some and hammer it down to a solid chunk that fits in the square of the button. That won't compress anymore like foam will (again). There are a few descriptions of the aluminum foil solution in these comments. You'll get it!
Better repair than my PAID best buy tech. I fixed it first try with this video!
Good job! By the looks of it EVERY tech should have gotten a service bulletin telling them how to fix it by now! I guess the tech's never look at TH-cam for everything like the rest of us!
LG should be embarrassed with the quality of their work. I’m never buying lg. thanks for the vid!!!
Dude, I commend you. That was an amazing explanation! Good job how’s it holding up?
Well, there are probably three or four or more fixes in this comment thread. I ended up having to fix it again, but I used a bit of aluminum foil and hammered it into the same shape as the foam should have been and that solved the problem.
Best video for the power button not working. The type of glue makes a difference. Thanks for making it. I used the wrong glue and it got too hard. For sure that foam got pinched, needs to be reengineered.
Yep!
I can’t figure out how the hell to remove the big spinning wheel from the front? So i can fully access the part in the back….
Just give it a good tug! It just pops off!
Just look through the comments in my responses or other responses. It’s in here somewhere. I don’t remember exactly right off the bat.
Good job! Whatever works!
GOOD JOB! Thanks for that serial number info!
I have the same washing machine same problem thank you very much for the solution.
Hey Will Ferrell looks just like you ! Thanks for the common sense fix.
Haha, what? How do you know that? Did I mention that in here somewhere? Yes, I am Will Ferrell impersonator! www.LinkTr.ee/impersonate
Thanks for the tip and what exactly is the name of the special foam again?
There is no special foam. Use very firm foam wrapped in the piezo electric material.
That's BS. It has nothing to do with that! Everyone here on this thread knows that!
Good luck!
Definitely going to try this. Thanks for the video.
Yes! Are you a lawyer by any chance?!
I agree
How the heck do you get the control board off those tabs?
Very carefully! haha, it will be stipped, cracked and broken when you are done. But if I recall you can use some small screws to hold it together after you have destroyed the snaps!
Just got it off....lost 2 tabs but oh well. It was indeed the touch screen button...the spring type. I glued some foil on the back of the button face for power and start works again.
@@tc4927 Good thing you figured it out! None of the techs know how to work on these things!
Machine still working’s?
My machine is still working great with the compressed cube of aluminum foil replacing the foam!
Does it have to be a specific type of foam?
I used a fairly firm foam. I keep small pieces of foam on my workbench and found something on the firm side compared to what was used in the manufacturing. The original foam was very flimsy and my choice to replace was fairly firm, more like the bottom of soft running shoes actually!

Hi David,
Thank you so much for responding back to answer my question.
@@christymariegunn1102 That's great! Glad to help!
Thank you for making this video. Repair guy wanted to replace the control panel for $490 then I remembered this video and decided to give it a try. BINGO!
@@SkipWhatAboutTonight thank you very much for this detailed explanation!
The panel has a part number of: AGL76194027
PCB Complex: EBR86498808
We have the top loader with the agitator: WT7305CV
Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!
Of course! Great people and great solutions in this comment thread!
Thank you we will be using your advice tonight to fix our buttons
Great! Hope it works!
Mine has just begun to do the same thing. Where do u live? I need mine fixed.
I'm just a regular guy. I don't fix other peoples machines. Sorry! But if you follow these instructions you will do better than any of the repairmen all of us here have had try!
Thank you so much! Now I have to go tear this LG apart!
Glad I could help!
Great! Be sure you are on rubber mat or in shoes because you can get a shock!
couldn't you just drill large holes in the top cover where the buttons are, on the washer/dryer, so that you could just use your finger to touch the actual button on the motherboard?
Same Issue with the spring style buttons. Small piece of aluminum foil worked perfect.
Good to know! Thanks for adding your fix!
Have the same problem. Thank you for the video.
Good luck!
Elizabeth, the big knob pops off out the front. I think you just give it a good tug.
@@elizabethmelendez5408 Mine is the same, did you get it to work?
Does anyone know if these pads can be purchased and if so what is the part number?
I do not know. I don't think anyone in this thread has found them. They are just "part of the board" assembly.
What about front load
If the panels look the same I'm sure it will be the same technology.
Where did you get the electric fabric?
Link to buy that type of tape or fabric tape??? Please
I did not save the info from the order. But if you search "metalized conductive fabric" you will find some. Here is one that will most likely work. www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/adafruit-industries-llc/1168/5356770?Essen%20Deinki&Shopping_DK%2BSupplier_Other&Essen%20Deinki&gclid=CjwKCAiAprGRBhBgEiwANJEY7OewOk_3A3IIi4Pki-2ZNk8NpZKAgXIa5XpATg7arBxtG78XrYDvQxoC7NwQAvD_BwE
Thank you, thank you, thank you! 😊
I was able to fix my LG washer, yay!
I used a pice of foil and it works!
Great! That foil may compress again if you push the button too hard, so go lightly on that button!
How do you take that cover off to get to the board?
How’d you get the front knob off? It seems mine is getting in the way so I cannot access the display panel
I don’t remember for sure but I think you just pull it! Good luck! Maybe there’s another video somewhere that will have that information.
This guys has seen things!
You are awesome thank you for the help
Good luck!
Thank you! 🙌
how did you take off the control panel im having trouble
You should search these comments. There are some mentioning that. It's just a few screws that are pretty simple to find though.
How did you get the knob off?
YOU THE MAN!
Haha thanks! Well that serviceman had been at my house 5 or 6 times and nothing was getting fixed! My wife was about to go order a new machine and I was like, No way am I buying another new one already!😅
Thank you I will try in my moms washers
Great! Good luck!
Great! Be sure you are on rubber mat or in shoes because you can get a shock!
How do you get the foam plug out? I tugged on it a bit but am afraid of tearing it in two.
Mine broke 4 months in. Wish I saw this before the purchase.
Sorry! Yes this comment community is very full of all the info you need to fix it though!
Thanks … same problem here .. about to tear mine apart.
Get er done!
@@SkipWhatAboutTonight Worked like a charm.
This helped 100% thank you sir!
Happy to help! It was such a pain to go through the problem I knew others would be at their wits end, too!
How do you get the selector knob off?
I think you just pull it!
How do you take the control panel apart
There are a few comments in this thread that describe how to do it. You'll want to scroll through here to find those instructions.
This helped me 100% as well. Thank you
Glad to hear it!
Same problem with my, lest a 5 year,
And also for saving me money thank you
Heck yeah! Glad to help!
How did you get the face off to that point ?
Look at these comments. I saw someone recently telling how to do that. Once you get the entire panel off I think the white part just snaps out of the faceplate.
So what I did was use one of the foam buttons from another button that is never used. Which for us was the child lock out button, On the bottom right. I pulled it out in one piece and the bottom of the foam was still sticky. So I placed it right on top of existing button. It stuck so I tested it few times and it worked fine. Then I put the front cover back on and tested it again. And again it worked fine. I buttoned the rest up and I was done. So far so good.
Awesome!
Best video for diagnosis
THANK YOU!
I’ve had mine for 7 months and it won’t power on. I’m patiently waiting for Lg to call me but yeah. No luck
If you are not going to work on it yourself then BE SURE to show the technician this video. Hopefully you get warranty work but they are still just going to send someone to work on it and even the service guy didn't know this.
My start button works fine but doesn’t trigger the lid to lock. It just beeps. Any ideas??
Oh great! Hey everyone, pay attention here. Here is probably the next problem we will all have. Sorry but I don't have an answer. But if you can figure it out please let us all know! See if there is a "lock' part that is replaceable. Try that BEFORE you replace the motherboard. It's almost never the motherboard.
@@SkipWhatAboutTonight thanks. I also tried a really strong magnet, but no luck..
I can't take my board apart😢
Why not? Look for the comments below about doing that. You WILL break some plastic tabs, but a small screw in the unused holes will hold it together when you put it back together! You got this!
